Yes backstab hits too hard but one of the huge issues with thiefs is that they can get away with building glass cannons because of their downstate.
If you look at the 2 classes that are the best at glass cannons Mesmer and Theif. You can not stab stomp either class in a high level game because they will blink away. The thief will also be able to stealth.
So that leaves top level players with 2 options. Ignore the thief while he insta gibs someone with backstab and spams cluster bomb off point. Or go for the thief as he stealths and if you do get him down he will get rezzed because he can blink and stealth.
This is true. The amount of time you have to spend to find the final resting spot of a thief or mesmer in downed state usually ends up with them killing someone and getting back up or just plain getting away. I honestly think for thief the one tele is enough, they don’t need the smoke too or they need to nerf the dmg on there auto attack because they can put out some serious dmg from downed still. Mesmer same deal with the clone and tele. It needs to be one interrupt and something else that won’t disrupt stomp.
Its funny how they get two ways to flat out interrupt your stomp as well as cause confusion in where the hell they actually are. Then you got suckers like rng and nec with only one interrupt who are basically guaranteed to eat dirt once they drop.
This thread is no longer about HS it is about thieves kit as a whole being a bit to simple to use to great effect. Heck even their downed state could use toning down. Ive had thiefs on their kitten take off 10k hp off my warrior because it takes 3 stomp attempts to kill them between the tele and smoke and maybe another teammate kicking around. I enjoy thief and I take one into Spvp from time to time but you guys need to admit this is unfair how much utility this class gets and how simple it is to pull off.

They don’t want us to have these analytics because then we will start associating opness with most played which isn’t a valid metric although imo its pretty telling that Thief and Mesmer are the most played by a pretty wide margin and the classes people have the most trouble with.
Of course it would be a valid metric. I mean if the results show Heartseeker 1,000,000 killed. It would be valid. Can’t argue with numbers. You can skew them to make them appear to be something different, though.
The fact people play a certain class alot doesn’t neccesarily make it op. A few weeks back they had ranger being one of the most played when they released their own stats and I don’t think they have ever been op in the release version of the game. Not sure I understand what your point is though with your analogy no offense.

I had some fun with a minion master build today. Kind of sucked every time capricorn rolled around since as soon as I hit the water it seemed to throw all my pets on cool down and the fact they dont regen but other wise i was able to do fairly well other besides that. Better cd and regen and moving a few traits into different trees and I could see MM being viable.
downed state is utter garbage its starting to really get on my nerves how some classes get so many kitten inturrupts and get out of death free cards. I had two guys donwed and I ended up on my kitten from nearly full heal recently They both kept me interrupted couldnt do anything. I already won the kitten fight why should some classes op downed mechanics like thief and mesmer make this any worse.
They could always pull a Call of Duty or BF3 and charge us for spvp mappacks. More money in their pockets. Maybe even introduce a few extra weapon types in a few packs would be interesting.

Please explain why you believe the act of moving your fingers over several different buttons in a preset order requires some degree of skill that you should be praised for.
GW2 has zero executional requirement, pressing 1234 is as simple and mindless as pressing 2222. Your performance in the game hinges on the choices you make – how appropriate your decision is and how quickly you respond to the situation. What seperates players are the decisions they make outside of that sequence of damage dealing abilities.
Then you won’t mind if the choices you make require the equivalent amount of button presses as the rest of the classes to achieve the results thief is putting out now. Am I right? It’s so trivial the way you make it sound and you have succinctly put it into the most basic of terms. You shouldn’t have a problem with a few more button presses added to your rotation. Easy right?
Depends on the time of day to. I pulled an all nighter last night and I swear every match was 8 thieves vs 7 thieves with me being the lone ranger lol.
People just want things handed to them and they cry when they don’t see big numbers .
This is the problem its just to kitten easy to blow someone up with thief. I jumped on one and ended up top in points nearly every match right out of the gate and I was using pistol whip post nerf. The mechanics need to be changed so that thief is as difficult to kill someone as it is with other classes. I have to go max tough and hp to survive on my Ranger but then I don’t do any dmg. Thief sacrifices nothing for its survivability and still has great dmg. How is that fair? At least make it harder to pull off these combos so I can actually say that it was skill that killed me and not a broken class that I am forced to tailor my build specifically to fight. I think thief is fun but even I can say it just felt to easy to kill people with it compared to my necro and ranger.
Needs more nerfs if I am not running max toughness and hp then I am eating dirt in 4 moves. Its no secret why every spvp match has at least 5 thieves in it. To clarify a dmg nerf may not even be neccssary but the complexity of pulling off these combos needs to be increased. Its just to easy to kill someone with thief and even if you screw up you can stealth up and run away or try again.

The class is just mediocre at even its strengths. Shortbow can be out bowed by thief now when you add in all their utility. Going full toughness regen dolyak armor you still blow up faster than a war and have less dps output. 1 handers are okay but don’t compare to thief or other melee users if you have tried to go toe to toe with a decent one. Monarch should be just changed to a gap closer period. GS may not be as bad as we once thought since the nerf bat seems to be swinging for all GS users now.The problem is not that ranger really sucks its just it has no niche anymore it isn’t good at anything and so it is outclassed in a few aspects by every class. We also have to deal with half the kit being useless like spirits. If we could get that fixed, even to the lvl of spirit weapons. Maybe add in cameoflage as a skill not just a trait then that would be start. The answers don’t have to be just raw dmg.
I swear up and down I outplay quite a few mesmers and thiefs but 9 times out of 10 I end up eating dirt against them no matter what spec I try. I would like to whip out sword/dagger and be evenly matched or have some slighlty less clone generation ability on mesmers. I can still even after nerf jump on my pistol whip or heart seeker thief and use half my brain and kill more people.
We just lack in the fact that nothing really works. If i go full beastmaster with all the traits the pet is still useless as kitten in spvp. If I go spirt build again useless. Shortbow, outgunned. Gs outgunned. 1 handers outgunned.

throw in caltrops on roll and call thieves add in stealth and they are way better at kiting too.
As the proud player of a femnorn warrior I both agree and disagree. Yes, it’s very easy to make a pretty norn. But it’s also rather easy to make an extremely butch one. My point however is that good looks aren’t mutually exclusive with savage looks. The point of norn is that they’re rough and barbaric in appearance, and I think my lean-as-hell warrior pulls that off perfectly fine.

Yea Ele can be insane with the right build. I am not the greatest player but I have faced a few Eles that have been able to keep up some mad regen, speed and might buffs all at the same timr on themselves almost indefinitely while putting out great dps. I don’t have any boon removals so all I can do is just die basically because I either A I can’t catch them or B I can’t out burst their hps on this particular build i’ve seen being run a few times.
Its true. In most games when they look at polls the most played characters tend to be the more humanoid ones and with the females the more attractive body and face types. this was true in FF11 as well as League of Legends. Someone complained in LoL about not enough grotesque characters and they said their metrics show that people played hot female characters the most.
The largest section of the demographic is usually 18-35 males so appealing to that group with hot chicks makes the most sense businesswise. Like arsenal said, on the off chance your game doesn’t have attractive females, people complain. I have a feeling that if Sylvari had been created as traditional hot elves instead of tree beings, they would have double the people playing them on a side note.
I did it with my camera wedged in the wall back around release. It wasn’t that bad. just keep pressing jump.
I love the look of Norn females. I have a hard time not making one when I roll alts. They are strong with out being overdone, attractive and feminine looking imo. If you want feminine looking body builders roll a male human with long hair. Lifestyle can only change so much. A female build is a female build, that is the way their genes are. There is already some well muscled body types in the game for female Norn as well unless were talking steroid physique which is not at all natural and wouldn’t fit into a fantasy game.
Yes make thief harder to master. Those with skill will produce the same results. No nerf just a bar set that separates the spammers from the pros. It needs a mechanics change not a dmg nerf.

1. This is the easiest and has been mentioned, keep the kitten end elevated and uncovered. The vent where all the heat comes out is actually at the back hinge/ slash hinge where the screen meets the hinge of the laptop not the direct bottom like windows ones
2. Reset SMC. With the comp off hold shift + command + option while holding the power button for 5 seconds.
3. If you have experience with building your own pc’s and absolutely know what you are doing and don’t care about your warranty, you can crack open the case. Strip all of Apples thermal paste with rubbing alcohol. Apple’s paste is guaranteed to be gooped and causing the heat to be insulated rather than transferred correctly. Apply your own thermal paste ie. Arctic Silver or Mx-4 etc. using the dot method. I personally got a drop of 15 degrees doing this I am not even joking.

I just don’t think its necessary. I’m not sure what purpose another range weapon would fulfill. We already have longbow doing burst short bow for conditions and axe for aoe. I’m not sure rifle is really needed besides for aesthetics.
They are just trying to raise the cost of goods by lowering the massive amounts of duplicate items on the market. I don’t think they envisioned the average price for items to be coppers and they are probably trying to combat the deflation that’s going on right now. Demand for items can’t keep up with the 1000 copies of each item that is available on the AH.
Now Jon Peters is basically saying that Necro will never be on the same lvl as other classes dmgwise due to the innate tankiness from DS. I honestly wish they would take it out of the game so we can be on the lvl with the other classes.
It still benefits lower lvl players, now they can sell mats to make cash. I made piles of gold selling mats in WoW and I started from scratch a few times after being hacked. I feel there isn’t any reason why that wouldn’t translate to this game once they get the supply of goods under control Nuprin.
Arenanet don’t listen to this guy. If anything you should be limiting item drops and making them more scare so that we can get the value of goods back up to acceptable levels. Everything can be purchased for coppers right now and its way to easy.
If they reduce it then they will have a huge majority of players kittening there is nothing left to do andkitten off that they “beat the game” already. That’s all there is left to do really is pvp and get cosmetic armor so if you can get it in a week you will be done with this game and back on the forum complaining.

Yes obviously, this is why I am saying I would not be against simplifying the task of balancing necro by removing a mechanic that could teeter on the edge of opness if they choose to do any buffs. They are obviously struggling with death shroud tankiness and keeping minions and power builds in check. It seems like they are having a hard time figuring it out or we would be seeing some small changes by now to make more builds viable.

You DO know that you can dodge attacks and take 0 damage right?
You DO know that you can block attack and take 0 damage right?
You DO know that you can kite mobs and get hit less often right?
You DO know that pretty much every class has ranged weapons available to it right?From your post it sounds like you are a “dps” and trying to run in and face tank everything on your own. You are expecting others to “tank” for you and “heal” you. Take a few minutes to read what your class can do. Pretty much every class has a “tanky” and “support/healing” option available to it.
Rather than blaming the game for not working how you want it to, why don’t you take the time to learn to play the game?

As you said, all these abilities are there. but none of them are good enough to be used efficiently at all. Why do I care i have tanking abilities if there is no tank and have to use them at random? Why have healing abilities when they are not nearly enough? Why even bother with healing when one of the rangers gets on you and cc’s you for 5 sec while draining your health? Just let people chain rez.
The point is that this is just a mess inside the dungeon. No order at all. Trinity gave us order and a logical challenge. This is not a challenge. It is a shooting barrel with fish that are really hard to kill.
I think you need to research the game more. The more you play the more you start to understand how to adapt your build . There is healing wells, weakness aoes etc. Combo fields which can blind mobs or weaken them, shield abilities. Eles and engies have some pretty darn good healing.
The trinity is basically there its just there isn’t a set class that is forced to do it and there is no threat. Everyone has to have a bit of self reliance and I think that is infinitely more challenging then playing health bar tag or just pressing taunt while everyone unloads dmg. How is that challenging for anyone but the tank and healer, and even for them its pretty easy in most mmos to hold aggro and cast heals on grid.
I’ve had dungeons as smooth as butter with ele’s stacking healing power and guards and warriors using shields and thief’s using blinds. There is actually organization to the chaos its just people haven’t figured it out yet for the most part. I think the older the game gets the more you will see people calling for optimal dungeon builds for all the classes.
Try upping your ram to 8gb. I used to get little micro freezes some times and picked up some more ram and it seems to have ironed out the issues. I figure it probably has quite a bit of stuff loaded into the ram like textures and what not and it doesn’t hurt to get more.
It seems like necro is hard to balance due to the death shroud mechanic. Because of this they either are op like in beta or underpowered like now. Balancing around this mechanic and minions seems to be a tough task. I almost wonder if they should just rework death shroud to just be a dps increasing form that has health drain for tankiness instead of a separate hp bar. Then they can give power builds spike dmg, condition builds that compete with engie’s and Warriors for stacks and MM builds that have good dmg all with out making necro op.
