Why didnt you guys chose Vulcan or Metal or something future proof? By the time this native OpenGL client comes out WoW and everyone else will be moved to low overhead APIs and Anet will be behind the times again just like with directx 9. Guess I shouldnt be complaining but I wonder why Anet never takes the time to be more future proof , if your doing it anyway why not do it on the API that gets more performance. OpenGL on OSX is still a version or two behind and with apple creating Metal I have a feeling it will be depricated on OSX.

did you read the posts in this thread? it was a marketing spend and has already reaped profits, i.e they gained more than it cost.

So what would happen if that marketing went towards promoting WvW or more living story instead. Wouldnt it also have a positive effect on the game and make a larger percentage of players happy.

My sentiments exactly. You have a portion of the game that people love and enjoy and is paying your bills but instead of keeping them happy you chase after a much smaller segment of your playerbase kittenimn off your core market in the process. Learn from FFXIV figure out what is making you money and stick with it. FFXIV don’t give a crap about no arenas its in the game but they aren’t dumb after 1.0s failure they know now to keep their fans happy which in that game is dungeons. There is a huge hole in the market for wvw players that guild wars could be eating it but instead they let all those players walk away unadressed so they can chase after arenas. Just stick to pve expacs and wvw and call it a day. It’s like taking your wife’s money and spending it on another woman what anet is doing.

I think you’ve mixed up 2 (possibly more) issues;
1) a marketing budget for tPvP tournament
2) WvW new borderland wasn’t popular
If anet didn’t spend money on a PvP tournament (for marketing purposes) do you think 2) gets solved by a wizard?

I don’t think you understood any of what I said apparently.

1) The fact is the wvw update is almost a year out no one likes the new bl and they are quitting the game. Does that mean they should wait that long to address it?

2) Any budget is capital that could be allocated to developing other resources ie making those changes or completing living story sooner.

As people have said before its the marketing budget (WvW development’s staff and money doesn’t come from the marketing dpt).

Colin has said “From a marketing standpoint, it (and the ESL weekly cups and WTS tournaments before it) has been extremely successful so far, among the most successful projects our marketing team has ever launched to grow our title in the history of the Guild Wars franchise in return for the cost.”

I still think you’re expecting a wizard.

Not sure how I can explain this any clearer. Spvp Marketing = expending capital on spvp and being spvp balance centric means using development resources and unbalancing the other modes. I think that the marketing capital and the development resources behind spvp is better spent on wvw and pve content. Still not a wizard. I’m saying consolidate and refocus the scope of the game to streams that have the most players.

This is a forecast ie a prediction. Do we really care what they think??? This is not the actual numbers. Secondly is their any mmo outside of FFXIV ( which hit rock bottom before turning it aroun) that is posting better than expected numbers? Even WoW is dropping. The MMO as a genre is not doing well. I think softer sales is the industry norm now.

Jack of all trades. I feel competent healing, doing long range dps doing melee dps, condi and being a bunker. I don’t think they are best in class at any one thing but they are competitive at everything. I think people struggle with the terms competitive. It’s probably top 3 at most roles which makes it competitive but its not the best at any of them. Great if you like to change your playstyle up alot and still be viable at everything.

Just make it like every other MMO.

Have a queue and an open party system. You enter a queue it selects the members for you and throws you in the dungeon.

If you want a premade made then you use the open group menu like now. The group tool should facilitate fast grouping, id rather have a queue and let the pre made folks just have their own section If they want a specific party makeup.

All we really want is actual EndGame content.

They just need to get a little more creative

End game could be hunting alternate weapon abilities and slot skills that aren’t any powerful than our current ones but open up alternate builds

Could be sand box stuff like building houses and outposts, bounty system in a few pvp enabled zones or making trade routes and trade missions, boat building and fleshing out caravans more… look at Archeage and EQ next there is some good ideas in there they could jack.

None of this would increase gear grind or power creep but it would give us something to do.

Yes it would be less hard, but then rangers would be the class with more traits than any other, and with the new way of unlocking traits the devs would need to create new “quests” to unlock them.

I’m not really saying that your idea is bad, I would particularly like it, but you need to see that such change isn’t as viable as you imagined.

Im okay with that. If it makes everyone happy they should at least consider a round table and hammer an idea like this out. They could have a boss that drops the stowed and unstowed trait variant etc. The amount of traits is balanced by the fact not all are usable depending on stow. Its still very plausible. If they can do 40 traits and hammer out which boss will drop what….. they can do it again with 5-10 imo……But like I said do they actually care enough… doesn’t look like it. Even if it takes 3-6 months I guarantee tears of joy from a good chunk of the ranger population.

Yes, it is really hard to tune any trait, those 40 new traits (5 per class) was new traits that works “alone”, change existing traits to work in a new system and still be balanced in both system (stowed and not stowed) and also both systems be balance in the 3 game modes would be an herculean effort if even possible.

EDIT: Why do you think that they take about 6 months between each balance update, even the small ones?

What if they just locked out the pet required traits and when the player un-stow’s the pet, the player re-slots those traits. Then just create totally new stand alone traits for the ones that are N/A when stowed? so they dont have to worry about dual balance just lock it out and reslot. With free trait refunds in game it wouldn’t be that big of a pain in the kitten and would only require a few seconds out of combat to re trait.

Turn around time wouldn’t be that long its only a handful of traits that would need to be made up to replace the pet only ones. I think its worth it for the good will it would foster in the community personally.

They would have to make it flip to another line in the other dmg table. Its like how when necro goes into lich form or deathshroud the skills bar flips to totally different skills, traits would need a dual purpose triggered by the stow flag as well.

Exactly, it wouldn’t be just a flag in the code, they would need to create a new mechanic and balance that mechanic when the stow is triggered, and THAT is the problem, it isn’t as easy as you are thinking.

Doubt it is that difficult to tune a couple traits when they recently came up with 40 new ones a few months back. They definitely are capable.

Do they care though is the big issue do they see any economic gain or players coming back if they spend the man power on this… I don’t know

The reason is because it’s not as simple as that. They would have to redesign most utilities/traits/weapon skills (I hope they already are).

Not even all they do is make a flag that says if(pet stowed)=“yes” use dmg values table 1
if(pet stowed)=“no” use dmg values table 2

Or something like that I haven’t done any programming since university but its not that hard to just make two classes with a flag based on whether the stow button is clicked or not. My guess is they feel it would add another balance issue to their precious esport aspirations which is why they haven’t done it.

Technically , it is really easy to add that flag in the code, I agree, but if they did that many things would just get broken.
Ok, you perma stowed your pet and got your 30% damage, what happens to the trait that rise 30% pet damage when pet crit, what happens to the the trait where boons you receive is shared with the pet, what happens to all signets, what happens to RaO, what happens to empathetic bound, what happens to axe #3, what happens to GS #5, among tons of mechanics that wasn’t balanced towards ranger having all the 100% damage.

Noting the popularity of Point Blank shot by the generally ignorant Ranger PvE crowd, I think we can help all of those smarmy one button wondermonkeys by making every attack on the longbow be Point Blank Shot.

This way, I can stop asking myself if its worth it to target the same mob they do, and I can just ignore the entire lot altogether.

Im guessing you both are pve’rs so of course ill meet resistance on the fact that pet should be a utility. You must not know how bad pets are in a pvp stand point and the only viable thing to come from them is their CC. Their damage is easily avoided by even the mediocre players.

I find it interesting that you where able to come to this conclusion based on the information you have been presented.

Heres an idea when I click stow I get my 30% dmg back. When I resummon it splits back to the pet. Problem solved doesn’t take up a utility slot. So in essence the stower is giving up the extra F2 that pet users get but I think thats a fair trade off to have total control over my dmg delivery.

Why 30% anyway? Do you have evidence that this is that amount that the pet contributes? base on what type of build and which pet? what about deference increases as well? a lot of our pets have defensive usages as well, dogs have saved my life just as much as i have used then to kill things as well.

If we where able to stow our pet for a buff, what would be our classes identity and uniqueness, the pet is a part of the class and what makes it different form that other classes. there are other classes in this game the don’t rely on a pet maybe you would be more suited playing that.

Problem is Anet is to lazy to put in the effort to code something like that apparently because im sure im not the first to suggest it.

You have to be trolling. So your saying that the devs need to protect the “way you want to play” but my second suggestion will allow BOTH camps to play “the way they want to play” it won’t remove the class defining mechanic at all because the pet is just a stow button click away on your UI. Pet users even have the added benefit of extra cc and buffs from F2, so in a way they get a better deal and you STILL are in opposition. your either an extremely big hypocrite , fail at logic or you’re trolling there is no other explanation.

Everybody wins here but this guy still doesn’t get it lol. The only explanation is that something in the back of your mind feels a bit jealous that other users would be able to deliver the same dmg without being tied to an ai mechanic….. in other words you don’t want others to play the way they want, hypocrite.

But I don’t want use my pet as an extra utility button, i want it to tear things to shreds and I be the utility. I like to run build where my pet is the majority of my damage and i focus on cc so and keeping the pet alive so it can do the job that i want it to do.

Seriously so much beating our heads against the wall wondering why they can’t untether the dmg from the pet and Arenanet refusing the pet is a “unique mechanic to the class.” which apparently is why they won’t let rangers stow them. Can they not just make the dmg split LESS and give the pets a few more passive auras or something. Is it really this hard???

About the crown pavillion:
Boring and Dull, No point in doing it other than the achievements, Lots of time consuming for absolutly no reward other than a chest that gives something like 2 iron ore or something, feels like a bad joke.

About the festival:
It was fun for a while, quickly lost it’s point too, after only 2 days I got all the achievements to get 1 milion tokens that enabled me to get everything I could ever want from the rewards and still have like half a milion to annoy me and fill inventory. The 2 events get boring really quickly again with no reward to compensate for it.

It’s just my opinion… I stoped playing for like a few months to give it a break since it was only about doing fractals to get gear to do more fractals to get more gear, and after coming back 1~2 days of new content and then back again to the fractals…
I say this as a way of giving feedback to help the game improve, however it seems that every patch just gets duller and duller. This game needs something other than just going around on a zerg feeling completly useless and just spaming auto-attacks…

what events did you run to get half a million tokens? d like to know because I have tons of stuff I want to get off the rewards vendor

Just do 14 of the four winds achievments and you will get 1,6k of tokens and 1 of those festival favors

I did , that’s good for one panda mini only and the boss blitz is never coordinated enough to get done in under 20 min when I’m on

I died to her like 20 times then I finally just googled some one elses mesmer build and killed her on my next try. Still wasnt a walk in the park but it was very rewarding and thats the way the game should be. Challenge is good.

Another thread based on opinion being presented as fact. I guess all this Living story content I thought I was enjoying all this time must have invoked some form of delusional state hiding the fact that I really hated it all along.

Sorry there OP, but the living story is a unique way of injecting new, fresh content regularly into the game in a way that I’ve quite enjoyed and look forwards to.

That’s the point. Many of us would also like to enjoy this content but we can’t because its temporary. This seems to be the fundamental bugaboo for Anet right now, even with mega servers.

People want to enjoy the game when they feel like it/ have time to do it. Anet believes content should be on a schedule of their choosing. First it was temporary living story and now its bosses on a set schedule thanks to megaserver that many of us can no longer do due to real life obligations.

Fact is people wont stand for this kitten for very long you can see by the piles of threads full of kittening that Anet has been locking. The customer dictates what they want, when they want it or you don’t get paid. Give it to them or suffer a decline in population , its that simple.

The downside to that is that everywhere will become a mini-pet zoo. Everyone will have a pet and it will be a clusterball.

No and I have a tequatl mini-pet.

I want an alternative that doesn’t create a zoo but easier than we currently have. I want the ability to press a button on the keyboard that summons the mini-pet. This way it is easier, and we won’t have a zoo everywhere just because you can just forget about summoning it.

What? Did you PLAY gw1? All the towns were mini pet zoos, and it was glorious. +1 to the mini summon slot.

GW1 is the reason why I don’t like it.

And I rather not see 100 mini Queen Jennah running around.

WoW has a handy tab for minis and I don’t remember it being out of control in that game.

Surprise surprise, the LW was a bad idea with an even worse execution that pretty much single-handedly destroyed the game. Something most people new right off the bat, and those that didn’t had figured it out by a year ago.

Yep. for the love of God can they just leave the content in and let us play it when we want? Why is it so kitten hard to give the customer what they want with this company? fire the director in my opinion.

You cant " take a break" from this game because when you come back nothing has changed so you log out again with nothing to do.

I didn’t make it through the whole rant unfortunately but I agree on what I did read. This is a talented team hampered by poor direction.

Who ever is steering the ship has no clue whatsoever what the customers want and this game could be far more successful right now without them. How many people have asked for a way to re visit missed living story content and they just don’t give a kitten?

What is the rational exactly? temporary content actually alienates people. It doesn’t cause people to be “hooked” and tune into the next episode. Some people just cant do it due to real life obligations and then when they do get time its to late and so they are basically made to suffer. This has actually caused me to re evaluate even bothering with this game. Why bother coming back when there is still nothing to do because I “missed” it.

Where the hell is the expac as well. No one like running around the same zones over and over grinding 50 doors. 50 champs,50 of this. etc. etc.

None of this crap makes any sense. There is Pandaria, Age of Wusu, Silk Road, Blade and Soul and a whole host of F2P Asian themed titles for which there is no public outrage. Pick one Asian style and stick with it, if that’s the issue. Something doesn’t add up here.

Can we just get a tab with all the pets that we have collected when out in the world so we can summon them all at our leisure instead of taking up bag space? Also can they stay summoned even when zoning and tele-porting, part of the annoyance is having to re-cast them all the time.

In fairness to him, people do the arah event all the time and everyone can guest any time, so it shouldn’t be hard to get these traits. It’s not like LS events where if you don’t get there the first week and the zerg is gone, you won’t be able to do the events.

In UW quite often if you want to have something done, you’ll have to do it yourself. Quite often now I end up doing Melandru with 2 other people. Shatterer and Jormag sometimes now fails. And I don’t think that guesting should be a way to correct the problem.

will any of that even matter once the mega server comes in ?

After playing TESO and Wild Star Beta and coming back to this game I now realize this game actually has VERY alive cities.

NPC’s randomly chatter to each other and they actually walk around and barter with each other. In these other games plus WoW all the npc’s do is stand stock straight waiting to be interacted with by a player character.

With that said this game has some of the nicest capital cities in MMO gaming and I think they could actually turn some districts of DR into dungeon/ sewer/ bar/ rooftop battles, or even house to house hearts and dynamic events.

The cities are huge I agree that they could make better use of that space by adding content into the actual cities.

If gold is the hardest way, then people will not buy gems with cash to turn them into gold and A_Net looses money.
it doesn’t really matter if people play or not, they need to buy gems with cash, this is the only income A-Net is getting. So everything is and will be run by cash until GW2 will go on Automatic like GW1

I don’t see how a high price would effect the gem sales. I make more money in real life than I can in game in the same amount of time so wouldn’t I still be more kitten d to drop 10 bucks or do the content assuming the content was fun if the price was high? If its too low than people wont bother with the content or gems at all, they may just farm up the cash, Arena net makes no money and no one bothers actually playing the game.. The two alternatives have to be as appealing.

Not really a barrier. Still acquirable by money but just expensive enough that people will actually want to do content for them. Never said PvE or PvP notice I said content. There can be a PvP unlock and PvE unlock for each book. My point is just it was a form of progression in GW1 that kept people busy for years it may be something that can provide the same level of interest here as well if done right.

tl:dr 3 ways to unlock ,cash should be the hardest to encourage playing the game (PvP/PvE)

Can you guys make sure that these new traits are expensive enough that the preferred way to acquire them is to do the content. I actually would like something to do in this game and I think trait hunting could be fun.

Can we have some that aren’t purchasable even if its just time locked for a month or something. Seriously gives people something to do…..

Someone said this earlier in the thread but if it is SO difficult to make the pet work since buffs can potentially make it OP. wtf don’t they just make them into passive buff companions that don’t do damage. Give the ranger his 100% dps with the pet as a passive buff with an on press ability on F2 for each pet and then start balancing from there.

Make the pet un-targetable have it throw out buffs, heals etc what ever, gold find, etc suddenly Ranger can now have a utility spot in groups as well.

Its pretty obvious at this point that the pet cant be brought to an acceptable level why bother crafting all these complex pet ideas. Gut it and call it a day. Were not going to be getting super complex human like pet AI, lets call it a day. Still the “pet class” you still have your trusty buddy but minus the headaches of worrying if he is missing his attacks or dead.

Why should anyone be entitled to all the achievements? If you cant do it its to bad for you. Thats the point of an achievement someone does something thats others didn’t. They shouldn’t just hand them to you for free or it wasn’t an achievement because you didn’t achieve anything.
