Reading the interview gave me the thought “Anet could really use some ideas/tools from NSA for CDI”.
CDI success essentially depend on tracking intelligence. That’s typically a spy agency’s job. Maybe the CDI team can name themselves “order of whisper” in the future.
Have said thief zerg pop thieve’s guild all at once. A 30 man thief zerg is suddenly a 90!
(T) randomdude1: there are only 25- 30 just capped spel. Heading mendons.
(T) random dude 2: ok we will head them off…. Oh god run!! Run for you lives, the whole server is here!! Hackers are breaking the map limits! Run, report! Run some more!
That would actually be hilarious.
Probably can get like two set of 70 thieves attacking two tower at once.
It would be even more funny to stealth like 20 thieves when enemy zerg approach, and when thieves un-stealth, now there are 60.
It is quite logical. When you play elementalist, you can make other people’s life more enjoyable.
theoretically, a highly experienced thief can reset a fight as many times as he want until you make a mistake and die. In WvW mode.
I say you really have to pick where to fight to stand a chance. (or just hope the thief is bad)
Spend the gold if you really enjoy the class. ANet themselves said they will be discussing ways to buff Ele’s (after holidays are over, which they are) and bringing us that info soon. At this point it’s not even up for debate that Ele’s need help.
Hopefully they actually THINK this time and don’t do a repeat of Dec 10 patch.
I have 0 faith in Anet currently. I am going to save up gold; if ele end up usable, I can spend it then. If Anet continue to screw ele, then I can use the gold for other things. Right now I just keep my ele at bare minimum. I do have an ascended zerker staff (tequalt was kind to my ele), and will leave everything else random things I get from PvE.
No. Skill is needed to execute strategy and tactic. It does not make them the same thing.
A bunch of people here just label all 3 under “skill”. Which is either over simplifying or just butchering the language.
A skill is something you do particularly well, something you have expertise in. It’s not oversimplifying it, or butchering language. That’s the literal definition of it.
What you mentioned is a skill in executing strategy and tactics. Someone who has skill in this doesn’t necessarily have skill in creating them, but creating and devising strategies and tactics can be a skill in itself.
I don’t understand what position you stand.
Are you arguing that skill mean the same thing as strategy and tactic? Or you recognize it as different thing than strategy and tactic?
Or you are arguing that we should throw out specific terms and label everything as skill? Which make gw2 a highly skill based game, because pumping blood to your finger is also a skill, using your eye to scan the monitor and associate it with image you understand is also skill? That sound like a mess.
You know what? nvm. This is quite the waste of time over silly issue.
I think tybalt left me with strongest impression.
still in the process of playing more pre-trahearne storyline though.
Nice to see ele doing something solo.
however, I only feel more sadness after watching… because it remind me of a warrior zerker doing the same thing, with minimal amount of defensive investment.
Because life is too good, need some torture in fantasy life to balance it. j/k
I initially made an ele because I figure I can play around with more builds (most weapon skills with 1 weapon)… little did I know… Now I am not sure if I want to spend gold gearing this ele.
Wow, alot of people seem to be confused between skill, tactic and strategy… They are 3 different things.
Not neccesserily. A skill is something someone has an expertise in.
So, someone can have skill in creating and executing strategies and tactics.

It feel static.
-Kept running into the same build over and over again… and even when there was a different build, it is just a slight variation. (or just pure kitten build that I don’t even notice)
-A good amount of matches play out the same way as well.
-unfriendly players all over the place, placing blame on others instead of themselves.
-there is not much room for “outplaying” the opponent like in FPS, making it even more boring. If I want structured, I play some other game.
-not efficient leveling nor gold production; I got characters to level, stuffs to craft, money to make.
-WvW is much more interesting and dynamic. WvW hardly ever play out the same way and it is still PvP, why sPvP then?
Wow, alot of people seem to be confused between skill, tactic and strategy… They are 3 different things.
What’s the definition of survive? Like ele is currently with spvp?
My definition of a game needing skill is “a game which player is punished for execution error”. In that sense…
GW2 require skill in:
ground target AoE
keeping in melee/PBAoE range
a few class combos like thief cloak+dagger->steal->backstab
borderline (the skill still succeed regardless but can only be maximized from knowledge):
dodging crucial attacks
That’s all I can think of.
GW2’s skill ceiling is really low.
Just out of memory comparing to GW1…
skills:
projectile dodging
keeping melee/PBAoE range
I think that’s it? GW1 combo was a lot easier if I remember… like those warrior back breaker combo… I honestly can’t even remember what assassin do.
Anyway… why are you guys playing mmo for skill anyway? If you really want skill, you should play fighting games. Although fighting game only got skill in executing the combo, but since you have to combo so often, it revolve largely around perfecting execution (and some fighting game’s execution are quite difficult, but the risk reward for hard combo is rewarding when you finish it).
As for skill ceiling… low ceiling result is observable when a noob with good build/character can beat a good player with bad build/character. In high skill celing games, that would never happen. Another way to observe is usually mass appeal, high skill ceiling game generally is less popular.
The only skill based mmo i played in my life is tera. You can actually drop combo there and get laughed at for dropping combo…. only if you play the certain class.

I only spvp because of the daily. Whatever I get from glory on the side is just a bonus.
This is troublesome… warrior don’t really complain about immob, how do we get Anet to nerf thief immob if warrior don’t complain about it?
Thief can do two things well. Stealth and burst. They are currently 2nd best at both of those (no.1 stealth mesmer, no.1 burst warrior).
Ele can do one thing well. AoE. They can stack the most AoE in 1 spot at the same time.
Everything else, both of these classes either suck, or several other classes do it way better than they do.
I think their mistake is not removing more classes.
If this game only have 3~4 classes, it would have been balanced.
I mean, they reduced almost everything, so why not classes as well? When you do things half way… it never turn out well.
To be fair, by removing dual class, they reduced number of classes by alot; however imo, it should have just been melee class, range class, magic class. That’s if I really want to “simplify” the game.

when you guys got kids… please spank them.
we need a killer rabbit next
oh wait..
when a man ride a horse, it is called a centaur.
I don’t know… i think if warrior get to use staff and sceptor, it will do a ton of damage too.
Ranger melee weapon isn’t exactly high dps.
So not all is true. Maybe this discussion need to be more class specific.
i tried venom share build in spvp… i have to say i am quite a liability on the team, because i almost cant handle a 1v1 at all (i think the only class i fight evenly with is ranger). However, if for some amazing reason, it is 5v5 in 1 spot, the venom share really tip the scale toward my team’s favor; that happen every once in a blue moon.
1v1
guardian: wet noodle battle… we cant seem to kill each other. havnet run into a dps/burst type; neither can escape well.
warrior: depend on what build. Those with lots of KD/stun, i dont stand a chance. dumb one with only melee, i have decent chance.
thief: lose
ranger: i think i might have a little edge here if i bring the right elite
mesmer: lose
necro: lose
engineer: about even, but he can escape when my team come to help… if his team mate come to help, i dont have nearly the same survival rate.
(rant: it is BS how warrior is so good at disengaging; it is almost criminal with amount of hp/armor/etc)

personally, i think they should changed the name to “mist war”.
Allow me to hi-jack the thread a bit…
I recently hit 80 as thief and is currently near getting my exotic set.
I am wondering whether I should buy the exotic like “nikka’s ______” etc or I should use my badge of honor and get it from WvW badge trader?
Personally I would like to save however much gold I can, so currently I am leaning toward using up 950 badges for that set… I fear that I might not know how much badge of honor are needed for other things.
Also… valkyrie or berserker? Which should be my first full set? I mostly do boss events and WvW. Haven’t run a single dungeon yet, might try one of these days.
currently using
rare armor
rare trinket/ring/etc
exotic SB
rare pistol
green daggers and sword…

I’m a gw1 player that did not buy gw2 when it came out. I was disappointed by many things mentioned in previous posts (gw2 being vastly different from gw1). I wanted to wait for cantha of gw2, then I was hoping I can play cantha to death.
But then…
I got gw2 after several months when a friend gave me a friend trial code (or something along the line? cant remember exactly). I initially thought the story has promising aspect (hence I put the money down), but then slowly the game disappoint me further. I stopped playing after a few days of purchase. (started as thief, because I thought “lol, stealth is one of the most kittened mechanic that break every game I have played in my life; if i cant beat them, join them” behold, it was indeed a lol fest back then with thief being super op with perma stealth etc going on)
Many months later (came back to gw2 last week), I was kind of bored and I saw my gw2 in my hard drive, so I decided to give 2nd chance. This time I dropped every expectation I have for gw2. Now thief has gotten nerfed pretty hard, but matter not, I have zero expectation of greatness.
Now I have been playing it for a week or so, finally reached lv80 (stopped at lv30ish previously), deciding between whether to go for ascended gear or different class to try things out. Spend most of my time in WvW right before the season ended, got majority of my lv40~80 in WvW. I played sPvP, PvE boss chase, just finished apathia story part, have not entered a single dungeon.
My opinion on a grade for gw2 is… conflicted.
high expectation mode: GW2 = bad game
zero expectation mode: GW2 = tolerable
confidence in the gw1 Anet = big fan
confidence in the current Anet = zero
confidence in NCsoft = negative (experience from lineage 2, exsteel, aion; worst of all, if ncsoft really prevent existence of cantha in gw2, I will remember it rest of my life; like I remember how sega screw me in my favorite games [shining force 3, valkyria chronicle etc]… and how sonic used to be so cool but not anymore)
