That never happened before the patch.

The fact that you apparently have 5+ sets of armor seems insane to me, especially the condition/healer sets.

I only have 3 sets right now. Crit damage valkyrie, dire condition, pvt. =( Working toward healer. Most of my armor are exotic, while most trinket and weapon are ascended. (all ascended weapon were from teq drop)

I am considering getting a legendary… thinking to be focus (only because it feel reachable, and stat swapping could be nice, and if i make a mesmer focus is needed), but not entirely sure.

Instead of getting all those sets why not just get celestial gear?

I find celestial to have “wasted” stats. Because there isn’t a single engagement in WvW that I would actually use all my stats, aside 1v1 roaming, which I don’t do often at all.

Then there is the cost of celestial stuffs, and the crit dmg nerf. Just not worth it imo. Maybe when it become cheap, I might try it out, but I honestly doubt it can become a regular go-to set.

I am constantly poor, trying to get different set of gears for different builds.

I suppose that is one major down side of being versatile.

Zerker pve set… WvW dps set, condition set, pvt set, healer set… so on.

I doubt I have spend as much as some of you guys, especially those with celestial sets.

Anyone want to share how much gold they have spend on their ele so far? (I think I am in the 500 gold range)

Also, was it easier to craft legendary staff back then? or is it easier nowadays?

I honestly don’t find “changing” to require that much effort. Hence I am still playing I suppose?

Healing power major, vitality, and something else (wish for toughness, but i can see the debate)

Idea: Elite traits

in Profession Balance

Posted by: pulupulu.9730

pulupulu.9730

I don’t think, there is any way to avoid powercreep, when giving every professoin an additional trait.
If the trait wouldn’t influence the build, it would be useless. If it does, it will strengthen the build. This new trait will always influence a skill, a combo or stats. The only way it might not be a power creep, is probably by giving the traits also a downside. Sth like: +10% Prezision, -10% Vita.
However, Even this would be some kind of powercreep. A Burst Build would gain (in absolute numbers) a large amount of Prezsion, while losing not very much Vita.

I am not entirely sure what your power creep discussion would lead to. To have power creep discussion would mean that after getting elite trait functions, there would be 2nd elite trait slot, then 3rd elite trait slot (something along that line). Also that the idea of power creep is that it would obsolete whoever that don’t update their functions (as in obsolete people that don’t have elite trait). However, since everyone get elite trait, who/what would elite trait obsoleting? (or are we going into the unlock topic again?)

Now as for the balancing problem of “re-distributing stats”, I agree it is a more dangerous road to walk (hence I mentioned in open post in the middle section that stat re-balancing would be difficult). We are on the same page here. However I believe there are potential for it, and should not be outright ruled out. Also, I was thinking more in line of “-300 toughness +300 vitality”, I suppose I should clarify that in OP, will edit.

Idea: Elite traits

in Profession Balance

Posted by: pulupulu.9730

pulupulu.9730

This would probably inevitable lead to power creep.

Everything can become a power creep if not well thought out. If it is well thought out, then it won’t.

In addiotion, the issue with haven to unlock stuff for pvp stays.

I’m on the side that believe this isn’t a problem for a RPG.

I would agree with you if this was a FPS or something, but even they have unlocks.

Idea: Elite traits

in Profession Balance

Posted by: pulupulu.9730

pulupulu.9730

It is probably too late, but here goes… (and don’t know if suggested before)
unlock grand master traits
Elite traits.

A completely separate trait slot that can be unlocked at lv80. It can be similar to GW1’s elite skill acquisition. Buy a trait journal/manual from trainer shop then go hunting for that mob with the trait and copy the trait. (or simply unlock with gold or glory)

Instead of running around trying to get grand master trait that require one to put 30 points into the trait line, elite trait is a stand alone trait that require no point (or minimal like 10).

This bring it much closer to GW1’s elite skills.

This also allow flexibility in builds, as it is not locked into grand master. Also improve the number of content/things to do.

Few things I feel absolutely should NOT be in elite traits would be…
*pure stat increase:
there are enough stat increase method, and this would only further the extreme (to ultra tanky or ultra bursty)

*constant effects:
this is something that belong in normal trait lines, since elite trait do not similar requirement in term of trait point, it should not weight similar to trait that was invested.

Few things I feel would be difficult to balance…
*stat re-balance:
although pure stat increase is bad, but decreasing certain stat while adding others should be fine. This would allow player to make build that require a certain grand master trait while moving that unwanted stat somewhere else. However, giving player so much possibility, designer would probably mess up and let an OP build through (some 10k players improving build vs a small team of designers… good luck foreseeing every possibility)
example: -300 toughness +300 vitality

*cool down reduction (and initiative regen):
cool down reduction can bring similar effect as having pure stat increase; it might make someone too tanky or too bursty. However, there are skills that have long cool down that would not be effected by this. Hence more effort is required to balance it.

Few things I feel would be great and easier to balance for elite trait…
*high-risk, high-reward:
things like “33% hp and below, every strike of hundred blade inflict stun for .1 sec”
counter-play: simply burst down the warrior or kite him when he reach lower health

*reward for difficult maneuver/execution:
effects like “after performing 3 combos within 1 sec, all enemies within 400 radius is blinded once per sec (for 5 sec) and immobile for 2 sec”
counter-play: pay attention to the combo field being dropped, and any interruption in between could mess up this elite trait requirement.

(I honestly don’t like giving suggestion to a game as I believe it is developer’s job to do so, but it is hard to stop passion some time)

Please stop with the sPvP unlocks

in PvP

Posted by: pulupulu.9730

pulupulu.9730

I don’t see what’s the problem.

So many massively popular game force you to unlock and stop you from playing your friend right away, and they did just fine.

Look at league of legend (man, i hate the reference, but so many people play it…), it take QUITE a while to unlock your mastery, rune and cats, yet people still enjoy it. In comparison, this is way less of a problem in term of scale. Even unlocking new class would probably be pale in comparison to LoL’s grind to lv20ish to play with your friend kind of deal.

Obviously LoL’s solution is create new smurf account to play with your lowbie friends (and then it got the problem of egoistic people boosting their ego and be toxic while stomping noobs), GW2 just need a way to solve it as well.

(GW1 was clearly another example, but so overused example here =p)

To sum up the OP.

“overhaul the game by equalizing everything”

am i getting it right?

As for league of legend comparison… Majority of the customization is gear based (item shop). GW2 PvP is basically LoL on end game stage. The difference between tank and carry are probably way beyond 300% difference (gw2 isn’t nearly as extreme… i think). Their light can wear heavy armor etc.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

unfortunately, you will have to live with this for awhile…

it is a time sink, because developers know they can not out produce content over speed of player playing through contents.

Even if in the future, all these materials etc become trade-able, it just mean that there is a new time sink in place. People will then complain about the new time sink instead.

Bunkers?

in PvP

Posted by: pulupulu.9730

pulupulu.9730

The way I see it…
(rough logic)
attacker A (aA) = 100% offense
attacker B (aB) = 50% offense

bunker = 100% defense

the result should be the bunker defense and aA offense cancel out, with 50% damage continue to sip through until the bunker ultimately lose.

Nothing wrong with it. Imo, wanting a bunker to be 200% defense or even 150% defense is as bad as attacker wanting 1 shot kill skills.

There are plenty of pay2win game that let you do that though.

[Damagetype condition] What's the deal?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: pulupulu.9730

pulupulu.9730

Unfortunately, I haven’t played GW but perhaps it’s not too late…

Anyway, would you care to give a few examples of what exactly worsened compared to GW1? GW2 has indeed alot of simplified and even some oversimplified aspects and I want to observe this development so being specific here would help me a great deal. You can rely on the information of this wiki, which I will read thoroughly if necessary to understand your points.

The explanation will take so long, that you might understand it better if you just read gw1 wiki.

It is quite hard to talk about the difference of condition damage without talking about the other mechanic. One mechanic lead to another, basically we’ll have to explain the whole game.

But to sum it up super short… Defense got severely weaker from gw1 to gw2, to balance that, offense got weaker too.

Opinion:
Then anet didn’t leave enough room for themselves and players to play with. Now they have to somehow come up with a way to “spice up” the system.

This problem clearly call for extraordinary monster to solve.

I introduce you the “man-eating rabbit”.

What we need is have a man-eating rabbit that find afk player to be tasty to chase after all players (since they are rabbits, they breed extraordinarily fast… so there are a LOT of them). It will try to sniff someone about 5 to 10 times to see if the victim is tasty enough to eat. Wherever the eaten player end up, no one knows.

The player need to talk to the rabbit and trick it by telling it that they are not tasty before it sniff player enough to find out (good thing rabbit aren’t exactly too smart).

fastest way to level?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

pulupulu.9730

Get to lv30ish is decently easy. Then you would need to grind a bit to reach near 40ish.

Once you are 40ish, u can join WvW and just run along a zerg to capture tower and keeps. Also do your personal story whenever you are within level range of difficulty.

Once you hit 60, tequalt event can give you almost a full level.

Once u r 60ish and up, http://us.gw2stuff.com/en, select your server on top, it will tell what event is going on, and u can bring urself there to get some event exp.

I don’t recommend playing every event you see on the way, especially the escort ones. They take too long for too little reward.

Personally I find leveling fast to 80 is extremely important. I have more fun in gw2 at 80. Because at low level, you almost can’t find people to play with nowadays, even on highly populated server. Generally the lv80 will not waste their time playing with lowbies; there are too many event going on with reward they are after to care about lowbies.

Its not nearly as bad as people think, it just means ppl won’t explode as quickly. I think the only aspect that this will change for thief is wvw roaming where they can exceed 120% crit damage. 10% less damage from 120% crit dmg builds is a lot, but 10% from ~50% in spvp isn’t that big of a drop. Granted for some classes this isn’t opening builds but the crit damage change wasn’t the only one. Besides, they always dropped hint of “good changes” that they couldn’t discuss at the time. Maybe we have good things this time around ^^

yes but dmg is thief specialty. like defense/hp is to a warrior. wont hurt most classed but will hurt badly on thief.

will 10% hp loss or toughness loss or armor loss on warrior hurt? yes! badly! on thief? no not really.

Uhh… no…. warrior specialty is “defense/hp/speed/damage/cc/more i forgot”. Just want to correct you on that.

they will just go like “lol anet, only nerfing 10% on 1 stat, please try harder”

Why does it matter though? Whether you win or not in WvW is large group effort. It is not a dueling arena.

Also, it is not like you win anything special if you win WvW neither.

WvW also start to lean more and more on tanky setup, unless you are playing highly specialized role that need protection.

Only thieves should be complaining, since they got another big nerf, and can’t fit any other role aside those “highly specialized role” (thou they don’t need much protection… because they are already dead! haha? not funny? darn)

I read all the patch note where Ele is concerned since August 2012, and there’s 12 patchs where there’re changes. 8 nerfs, and 4 “up” (with all necessary quotes).

Adding onto the quote, people should also check 2013 jan patch to see how much Anet would/could do between dec. and jan.
