should stay out of the way of those doing it”
- Thomas Edison
One trick I’ve found is to equip a weapon that gives you a swiftness boon, so you can make jumps easier.
I hate corpse rushing as well. But I do like not having long corpse runs.
Solution: Rez timers.
when what is probably ~90% of your player base is avoiding it?
Made up numbers are made up. I see people making groups and clearing AC all day er’day.
In order for content to be considered sufficiently challenging, there MUST be a portion of the population who is unable to complete it. If 100% of the player base can down a dungeon, then it’s obviously too easy.
The people who can’t figure out how to clear any of the dungeons in GW2 need to pay attention to the players who can, and then improve their gameplay.
Don’t nerf the dungeons. Force players to buff themselves.
Neither mode needs to be nerfed.
This isn’t about casual players vs. hardcore players. This is about good players vs. bad players.
I’m a casual player. I get in maybe 2 hours of playtime every few days, because I’m in college. But I know how to watch a boss animation, and I know how to dodge. I know not to put every single one of my abilities into a damage buff to myself, I instead pick a mix of defensive and group buff abilities.
No dungeon, at any part of the game, should hand victory to the players. There are hundreds of thousands of players who are completing the content just fine. If there is a portion of the population that can’t, that’s their fault, and it’s their problem. They need to improve.
It’s StoryMode.
The trash felt like endgame raiding.
Supposedly I had to prepare like endgame raiding (get survivability traits, survivability gear, read up on bosses, play with friends/guildies, use voicecom).
And it was the first dungeon in the game.
I feel the exact opposite.
One of the things I hate most about wow is that 99% of the game is sickeningly simple; only heroic mode raiding is in any way challenging. And whenever you bring that fact up, people scream that if you want a challenge you should do heroic raids.
I want the WHOLE GAME to be challenging.
So far, GW2 is providing that. Can’t do the jumps? No vista for you. Level 80 in a level 20 zone? You’re level 20 now. Doing into a dungeon? It’s going to be rough, as it should be.
Why not? Are you saying if 5 man’s are the only challenging content in the game then people who just want to PVE have no reason to join a guild?
So a guild isn’t a guild if they don’t take their entire roster into an event? My wow guild regularly has people running 5 man content.
I think that the dungeons in GW2 are challenging enough that having a guild of people you know and trust is a huge advantage.
Better a guild system than an LFG tool.
I’ve done a few dungeon runs, some successful and some not. I’ve heard a fair number of complaints, mostly on the forums, and it would be easy to say that “everybody thinks the dungeons are too hard.”
I don’t think that’s accurate. I think there are hundreds of thousands of players who are quite happily playing the dungeons as they are. And because they’re happy, they don’t feel the need to come the forums and mention it. They’re too busy having fun. The reason the majority of the posts about dungeons are complaints, is because people who are unhappy are more likely to complain about it.
The dungeons are great the way they are. You should never be assured that you will clear a dungeon when you set foot inside it. It should always be a challenge. If there’s no risk of failure, then there’s no joy in success.
Don’t bow to the pressure, Anet. The dungeons are great.
Cross-server group finders are a bad idea, a bad bad idea. They destroy any sense of community, as players can be total kittens without any sense of accountability.
This is an MMO. People should have to communicate with one another to form groups for content.
Some of us like a challenge, and completing it, can be an satisfaction itself.
This is my feeling exactly. The reward is completing the run. And the harder the mobs hit, the more sweet that reward becomes.
I think the thing you need to realize is that there is no such thing as a trash mob in guild wars 2. All the mobs are a part of the challenge, not just the ones that drop loot.
The concept of “trash” has proven detrimental for many MMOs. They become a nuisance, and dungeons become places with nothing but bosses. It’s bad, just bad.
I’m probably in the minority, but I think there’s more than enough character customization options, bordering on too many. I don’t want to have to worry about the width of the bridge of my nose for crying out loud.
Squee! The game finally begins!
The friendlist in Guildwars 2 is an attempt to build a community, and I hope it succeeds at just that. When you friend someone, you’re friending a person, not a character. You can’t be a raging kitten on one toon, and then hop onto your main and carry on like that wasn’t you.
1) Do anything.
2) Get xp.
3) ????
4) Profit!
Warrior is a good place to go.
I’ve been in dungeons where nobody was a tank or healer, and we got it done. It wasn’t fast and it wasn’t easy, but we made it through to the end.
Basically the devs are a bunch of mothers who like to hold your hand, maybe a swear word makes you break down into tears and want to kill yourself. Luckily the hero’s are here to save you from the evil of a swear word
I think you need to go find a kitten.
Then you need to sit the kitten down.
And shut the kitten up.
I’ve actually taken to typing ‘kitten’ instead of swearing in my posts. Mostly because it makes me giggle.
I’ve been having a ton of fun in GW2, and a lot of my friends have also been playing. I’d love to know what kind of sales figures Anet is looking at for the least few weeks.
Level balancing per zone was a masterstroke on Anet’s part. It’s been near perfectly implemented.
I can be a level 80 character and go farm some copper, and take part in local events without feeling like I’m both wasting my time, and ruining the experience of everyone around me.
After playing GW2 for the last two weeks, I don’t real notice my level at all any more. It’s not important. All that matters is that I play. I just get to enjoy the game.
I fully expect that three months from now, Anet will have added new events, quests, and gearsets for me to chase.
I’ve actually taken to writing kitten in my posts instead of swearing, because it makes me giggle.
For example, most people who starts threads need to be told to calm the kitten down and shut the kitten up.
Warriors at the moment are one trick ponies. Stun target, hit hundred blades, hope they die.
If you’re a decent enough pvper to know how to dodge, block, root, or use your stun break, you can easily deal with warriors.
Its not primitive, its the very fabric of life.
Thats how you progress, thats how you get your computers, iphones etc.
Thats why people should know basic science =>
You’re comparing the process of biological, cultural, and technological evolution to the internal mechanics of a video game. They’re not the same things.
I hadn’t heard all of that. It certainly doesn’t jive with the game as I’ve seen it so far, but who knows, maybe things will change dramatically.
But how can that be achieved without a ranking system?
My first question is actually, “How can you have a serious pvp game without a dueling system?”.
How can you have a game that is supposed to be a “competitive e-sport” without a ranking system? It’s like Football without league tables.
I must have missed the Anet announcement where they declared that they intended the pvp portion of Guild Wars 2 to be a “competitive e-sport”. But I’ll be honest, I haven’t followed development that closely.
If the game’s designers intend pvp to be a strict, competitive, ranked e-sport, then I’m clearly in the wrong. That said, I’m fairly certain they intend it to be an entertaining mini-game inside the larger scope of the world.
You’re entitled to your opinion. I simply don’t think what you want meshes with the game as it is built.
So why do people shy away from a system that shows who is better than who.
There is a segment of the population I like to refer to as “adults”, who do not need a digital pat on the back to provide them with a sense of self worth.
P.S. The people who don’t want/like rating systems are generally the people who would have terrible ratings.
I think you should ride your high horse right back to wow, sir.
My experience has been that you don’t need any special composition of professions to clear a dungeon. What you do need is five people who all know what they’re doing.
What really ensures a smooth run is one person making suggestions for each pull, and everybody generally listening. I’m not a ‘tank’ in any of the groups I’ve run, but I call out focus targets and positioning, and people generally go along with it and things go very smooth. In groups I’ve run where nobody talked and everybody did their own thing, the run generally went poorly.
Why is no one reading what I’ve said. I don’t really know what to say.
I play just for the fun of playing RIGHT NOW. However MONTHS DOWN THE LINE, let me say it again, MONTHS DOWN THE LINE, playing with no aim other than just to play will not be anywhere near as fun.
Jesus, I just wanna know if there is going to a ranking system other than glory in PvP.
There’s no ranking system in Final Fantasy Tactics. But I still fire up my PS1 every year or so and play the game through. There’s nothing I haven’t done in that game. Every quest, every storyline, every class, ability, battle, etc. But I still play it, because I enjoy playing it.
be nice if it was optional though, say enter solo u keep ur level enter in a group u get scaled.
would allow farming low level dungeons for mats and testing builds etc, also means people could just play the game instead of the usual hunt for groups or having to find a guild.
So you want Anet to change the game, specifically so:
1) Higher level characters can ruin the econonomy, and
2) People can ignore the social aspect of an MMO.
I can’t say I agree with you.
Just for me to clarify, are you upset that the dyes you used on one character can’t be used on other characters?
If players could achieve all their hopes and dreams inside 3 runs, then guild wars 2 would have a shelf life of about a week.
This is an MMO. You’re in for the long haul.
And nobody says you have to grind 18 dungeons a day. Do it as it comes, a little here, a little there. Once you get it, you’ll know it’s worth something, because not everybody has it.
Having level scaling was the smartest thing Guild Wars 2 ever did. No matter what your level is, no matter how good your gear becomes, if you’re a bad player you will always fail at dungeons. And that’s exactly how the game should be.
Stop relying on the game to make you better. Improve yourself.
People need to understand the difference between “nerfing” and “balancing”.
As far as I’m aware, you have to eyeball it.
Frankly, I think it’s a fantastic design, because it puts more skill back in the game. My abilities aren’t greyed out when I’m out of range. I’m more than able to waste my cooldowns. It’s up to ME, the PLAYER, not the computer, to decide when I should be attacking.
The whole game is pretty amazing. So far the only complaints I’ve heard are from people who say the dungeons are too hard (boo hoo), and people who are bored because they rushed to 80 and have nothing to do (awwwwwwww).
I had the same problem with the same quest. Their regen is overtuned. I was able to find a spot where I could pull them back to land, and once out of the water kill them with my melee weapon.
I was really looking forward to no more dedicated roles. No tank, no DPS, no healer. Just five skilled players doing their best, playing their best, and getting through tough fights.
But I recently started a guardian, and after maxing out my staff skill, I feel a lot like a dedicated healer.
Virtue of Resolve: Heal yourself and nearby allies.
Orb of Light: Detonate the orb to heal nearby allies.
Empower: Heals nearby allies when it ends.
Healing Breeze: Heal yourself and allies in a cone in front of you.
And those are just the direct heals! That doesn’t even take into account the various buffs I can put on the party (swiftness and might come to mind).
So am I seeing things wrong? Because it really looks like my job in a dungeon is going to be to stand back and press heals. The staff sure as hell isn’t a ‘questing’ weapon. It has nothing to kill monsters except auto attack.
There are three things I need to say:
1) People who say they aren’t interested in levelling cooking are, to be kind, misguided. It’s a great way to level your character, the buffs you get from the food are fantastic, and sooner or later that stuff will start selling. They literally GIVE you the mats.
2) Anybody who is upset that they ‘missed the boat’ with cooking, shouldn’t be. People who cheesed their way to max level using cooking are now done with the finest MMO to be released in years, 2 weeks into it. It’s their loss.
3) If you’re upset that your ‘drops have been nerfed’, get over it. Every MMO ever has balancing issues. Nothing that happens in the first 6 months of this game should be taken for granted.
I know, I know, damage meters have a bad rep. But I’m not looking for a meter I can spam in party chat to make my kitten bigger. Nor do I want to flame people who aren’t doing enough damage.
I just want a damage meter so I can track my performance as I quest and do dungeons. I’d like to be able to compare the damage of abilities between the different weapons, as well as how much damage my various conditions are doing.
And before you say “just read the damage as it comes up!”, I’m not capable of memorizing several hundred numbers and then comparing them later.
It took you 4 minutes to ‘figure it out’ and respond. My first thought is that you just wanted to brag about your 100 gold.
The holy trinity has been around for the better part of a decade and a half. It’s baggage that’s going to be hard to lose.
Also, guardians have a lot of ‘baked in’ group buffs, notably heals and damage reductions. Having one in the party can make a run a lot easier.
Have you tried emailing Anet directly? As this is related to the store, and cash purchases, it’s kind of their business.
Also, if you look at the forum title, this is Players helping Players. If you’re fishing for Anet responses here, you’re not going to get any.
I believe there is already town clothing available in the gem store. A friend of mine rocks a pair of aviators.
I’m not particularly pleased with the ban based on language, especially when there are two tools in game that allow players to deal with it already.
That said, I am THRILLED that Anet has a policy and is enforcing it. I’m so tired of companies rolling over for bad players. There are rules. Follow them or get the kitten out.
And arena net, open a general discussion forum, it’s an essential part of the community… unless your following the ethos of say North Korea, where general discussion is possibly Rather frowned upon. Are you?
Anet has made it very clear that they are TESTING the forums. They released a few, to see how they could handle the load.
Once testing is done, they’ll open new forums. General discussion, crafting, feedback, etc. They’ve made this abundantly clear.
So put on your big boy pants and calm the kitten down.
I’ve heard a few people mentioning something called cultural armour. I’m a level 43 warrior, and my gear kind of stinks, so I’m looking for upgrades.
How do I get this armour? Are there requirements? Is it for gold or for karma? Where do I buy it?
Thanks!
For many many years, my friends and I have played every MMO that came out to challenge WoW. And every single time, we ask ourselves, “Is this the best they could do?” There are so many simple, basic gameplay systems that are ignored or maltreated.
When we all jumped into GW2 for the first time, we said, “This is the MMO we’ve been waitin for.” It just feels like the developers sat down and asked themselves what makes a good game, and then went out and built that game. No cutting corners. No half assing it. Make it good, make it fun, and make it challenging. End of story.
As far as I’m aware, you can’t ‘respec’ your slot skills. The reasoning behind this is, there is no limit to the number of slot skills you can learn. Eventually, if you play long enough, you will learn ALL slot skills.
So if you spent some skill points poorly, don’t fret. Just keep playing, and you’ll get more points, and be able to buy the skills you really wanted.
