I have a feeling they may be giving us a more…useful idea for the trait system. I’m hoping we’re able to equip 2 of each trait type on there. Meaning 2 adept, 2 master, 2 grandmaster. Do you know how much of a game changer that would be!?

Also guys, calm down about the trait. You remember how powerful we were with LB before the quickness nerf due to the double attack speed? It means we get the unnerfed quickness for Longbow, AND it’ll stack with Quickness now.

we dont, attack speed itself stays the same just the projectile speed gets better, which admittedly makes it harder to just sidestep the attack, but that should not be the case in the first place making this a QoL change that should not be put behind the trait system.

When i saw tha new traits, and how cool they looked i was so excited for the ranger trait… and then i read it and…… lolwut? seriously?
But guys, there is still hope. They only shared 1 new gm trait per class so far, and EVERY trait line will get a new gm trait so we still have some chance to get something cool!

Well it would be the smartest, if you want a huge hype which Anet wants they have been doing it whole week, to show off the best ones. For the other classes they are WOW (most) for ranger this is a very bad one IMO, if thats the best they have well…

I was reading the traits and got all exited, especially the guardian one and then I saw the ranger one. They were short on ideas or something so to actually put a QOL change behind trait points? Seems they really ore out of touch with rangers, even ‘after’ the CDI

Don’t knock it too much until we try it. Yeha sinking it behind a grandmaster is frustrating, but it’s an improvement. I almost feel like they listened to my suggestion some when I suggested something like this a while back. I just wish they would consider also my suggestion for adding a function to the AA that is built into the longbow itself where you can hold down the button for a longer range and higher damage shot (but it would only be that one shot, pretty much like drawing back a real bow for a long distance, well aimed shot).

Needed QOL changes behind trait point wall is not an improvement.

In all honesty it would be so professional for an international company to communicate in multiple time zones (obviously not all time zones but the standard ones used in the continents). Also sucks to be European always short end of the stick in these matters :/

I have a hard time understanding all the engi posts they singularly feel like the most well-rounded right now. Their primary issue I’d say is how garbage turret builds are and aesthetically the Hobosack… pls no more hobosack. Outside of that I’d say it’s a l2p issue and people wanting things to be what they dream up in their heads instead.

It’s most definitely just a desire to make turrets more viable in multiple areas of the game and improving their AI. AI improvements would be seen in the Ranger pets as well.

Aside from turrets, Engis are in a pretty good spot compared to the poor ranger

@thedenofsin – If all professions are brought to the level of Guardian or Warrior, then nothing’s imbalance and everything’s super powerful (how it should be)

It should not be like that, putting everything on warrior level is serious power creep which would make much content too easy.

1. Engineer. A huge percentage of utilities are just not good, notably turrets. Traits could use help as well. This is all well documented in our forum!

2. Warrior. I can already see this won’t make the list because no one else is voting on it, but I still have to speak my piece. Warrior is way overtuned. It can fill too many roles with 1 build. While I appreciate the roles it fills, it is not fair that it can do them all at once with minimal sacrifice.

3. Ranger. Toss up between this and Necro for me, but I feel Necro has a lot more going for it. I don’t buy the “lol Ranger go away” fad, but the Ranger does need to bring more to groups. With the DPS meta that PVE is right now, it’s hard to justify a Ranger over a Warrior in those groups obsessed with said meta. Luckily I don’t find myself in those often, but it still brings up a real issue with Rangers I think. Similar DPS to Warriors but nowhere near the group utility at the same time (coincides with my #2, Warriors can have it all).

I think that is the main reason warrior doesnt make it, its a class that has no real problems just that it outshines the others because some are rahter broken.

IMO some more interaction from Arenanet would be nice, especially from the teams involved in what the CDI is about. I can see U (Chris) are very commited to this which is nice, but sometimes it seems like you are almost alone in that (whether it being because lack of time, "fear, or whatever other reason) and other people stay at the side which is a point which I think should be improved upon. You said you are working on that so I am hopeful we see more people pop up in the next CDI’s.

For ideas for new CDI’s, why not make a pool of suggestion from what devs would like to have input on and what the community wants to talk about and vote after, or 1 CDI chosen by devs, the next by the community?

Reading through a lot of the comments on various class diversification (or just stronger trait/skill diversification) concepts, one of the things that seems to be missing is a discussion on how you’d actually earn/unlock these additional abilities to make it a progression system.

One of the goals of progression, in this case horizontal, is to create an extended sense of game play and thus = reward for playing it.

For example, we’ve added more skills to the game recently, but those simply unlock with skill points, which basically means -> play any part of the game that gives exp, or kill champs to get skill point books. That’s ok as systems of unlocking horizontal progression go for the extended class diversification, but game play wise it generally means find the easiest place to get XP/champ-loot and do it over and over again for a large % of players, since folks most often gravitate towards the path of least resistance.

What sort of systems of horizontal progression unlocking would you like to see that’d accompany a system like extended class progression?

Personally I would prefer a system like we have currently in place for acquiring skill points. Make a spot on the map where teachers are, masters that can learn us a specific skill and let them challenge us in some way. More challenging than skill point acquisition. Make us solve puzzles, do some mini mini dungeon, fight the mentor with special mechanics that are related to the used skill.

The 3 I went for were:

1) expanding skills by gathering them off the world, new weapons, skill look customization. also on a side note I want playable Kodan and tengu!)
2) player housing
3) faction/order missions

Since 2 and 3 are seen as one by you its an easy choice to pick that one.

Player housing I would do instanced, but allowing you to invite friends over for a visit. Also you can build your own house and furniture using masonry and carpentry crafts.
Faction quests is pretty straightforward do job for your order.

1. Player housing and everything surrounding it, going from possible new crafts to make furniture etc, in extension same system for guild halls.

Skills:

  1. Many people have already touched upon adding new skills and such,I admit I haven’t read everything but the things I did read I missed 1 thing, new weapon types. I remember one of the devs saying in the past they preferred adding new weapons over new classes, I completely agree with this and new weapon types would be a great way to allow players to be more diverse. It will be a lot of work since that would mean for 2 handed weapons 40 new skills (even more for 1 handed)+ there will be need for quite some skins for them to more or less match up with the current ones, but it is IMO definitely worth it. Being a ranger main myself I would love to see a crossbow make it into the game and I am pretty sure people that main other classes have quite some ideas on this too.
  2. Add skills that can be earned by every class by doing certain events in the open world. Pretty much like how skill points are being gathered, only IMO it should be a bit harder, perhaps not even doable by just one person. This way you also won’t need to design a different skill for every class, obviously this does not exclude new skills that are class specific of being added. This way of acquiring skills can also be useful if you plan an continuing with race specific skills that can only be obtained by a certain race in their area.
  3. This one will likely be a lot of work but it is something I will throw out anyway, being able to customize the look of your skills. Same as the previous one you would go and gather these looks by doing something in the open world. I would bind these events to a certain slot as to not make the amount needed ridiculously high so that 1 of these events adds a customization to the 3rd slot of every weapon set.

Home instance:

People have already brought it up, the home instance is not what it should be, what it could be, but what direction should be taken? Personally as I see it at this point the current home instances leave little place for customization since it is pretty much a place designed by you guys. We have no say in what our home looks like, how big it is, etc, neither does the effort we put into it make a lot of difference. Therefore it is IMO best to make the home instance a completely empty patch of dirt where we can make our own place, where we can also show off the rewards we have gotten and choose where to place the gathering nodes we have gotten. If worked out well it could also lay down the foundations on adding guild housing, but I will leave that for a guild progression CDI.

More progression can be done by for example adding a mason or carpenter craft line, they can make furniture and other items needed to customize your home instance, this might also require the addition of new gathering nodes for stone.

Character story:

In our personal story we did some jobs for our chosen order and progressed in rank towards the highest rank, apart from the boss of the order, IMO this were the best parts of the personal story, where we progressed our character trough our order. Why not expand this some more? Why not after you completed your story your order requires your help once more for minor tasks? Some people have called it a faction system where we develop our character trough helping out certain groups and this would be a great way to work something like this out and see if it is worthwhile to expand to a fully-fledged faction system also for every race/city etc.

First of all I never really understood the idea behind just putting commander tags behind a wall of 100g. IMO it would be a lot better if you actually acquired it by proving yourself in WvW for example (badges of honor is the first thing that comes to mind). As it is now the commander system is fairly limited and not all that great, sure you have a marker that shows where the commander is but that is all. I think a big overhaul might be in order, if we can get to an understanding of what functionality is needed. I myself am not a commander so I just speak from the follower side of things.

What we need are different colors/emblems for the commander so it is easyer to know which is which. These should be obtained by actually achiieving things in their field, for example WvW commanders have different tiers and colors based on what they have captured in WvW, but also PvE commanders for fighting in world bosses like tequatl or scarlet invasions. This so we can see how experienced they are.

This while there are so many stories on which you could have build on to that are already in the game. For example Kodan reclaiming their lands, tengu seeing the need to open up and combine powers with the current races to fight the evils, still many dragon bosses to defeat. Zhaitan may have fallen, but he other ones don’t seem to do anything at all.

Dragons being one of the big enemies but there are also smaller ones, like the corruption and battle for power between different groups that we often see in the first part of the personal stories, why doesn’t anything seem to happen there?

Reuses of Braham and Roxx is nice, but often I feel like they are just put in so that people recognize them but they play no real role, they have no real connection with the story they just happen to show up. I mean we can see them with the current one where they replace one of the vigil/whispers agents at the destroy the spore events, but they have no real use there. They seem to be just dragged in out of nowhere and that is just silly.

The biggest reason why we introduced new characters for Living World story content was because we weren’t able to separate the Personal Story and Living World timelines and characters. So while we could have used iconics or existing characters more liberally in the Living World releases, we couldn’t put them through any meaningful changes because it could potentially break continuity elsewhere.

If you create a character that has no dependencies to existing content then you have a lot fewer restrictions in how you use them. The good news is that we’re taking steps to address this very concern and we’ll be sharing more details on our solution in the coming months.

I can understand your point that you need continuity and therefore cannot do whatever you want, like for example kill of Queen Jenna, but there are a lot of story lines left still in game that are not bound by what happens in the personal stories too.

My comments about the Living Story.

I totally understand what ANet is trying to accomplish: create a living world. To some extend it does happen. My ‘issue’ is with the story we have been presented. The story has gotten better and better over the course of the year, Scarlet is a decent villain, but not every time was the story written properly. This is no new feedback however. Personally I think having story arcs like this are fine from time to time, but I personally would like to see new regions be added and the current story continued. There’s so much to work with: the Norn and their quest to reclaim their homeland and defeat Jormag and the Sons of Svanir. The Charr and their ongoing battle with both the Flame Legion and the Ghosts of Ascalon, also a bit of a political drama going on. The cleansing of Orr?

There’s a lot of existing lore to work with and expand upon and I personally would like to see that happen, perhaps with some filler arcs here and there like Scarlet.

Something I would also like to see in the living story is more branching on choices you made in the past, specifically your order, and the influence of the orders in the living story. Sure we see vigil dudes/whispers agents and priorie scholars in events, but there is no real involvement from the orders, something of which I personally would love to see a lot more. Question is of course would this be best to put in LS or more in something like PS?
Also since so many people complain about the release schedule, I’m fine with it, it is nice to have new things to do every 2 weeks, but they should have a high enough quality and the achies should IMO not be such a meaningless grind

I find it a bit odd that for living story you went the direction you did. I mean the original game left so much open potential to build onto, yet the decision was made to add a seemingly completely disconnected new bad entity to the game of which we know nothing about and about whom the story always seems to be. Which I find an odd choice because the original gw2 left such a great open opportunities to build on, which would naturally result in things I think people really want, namely a new playable race, new kinds of weapons, new maps that stay. There are pretty much 2 places where this can be done, one being to retake the territory that was taken from the Kodan, resulting in those maps + Kodan as playable race or the Tengu opening up to us leading to their maps and as a playable race, new weapon types can go either way. But instead of building on a strong story that was already there, the decision was made to build something new, told in little pieces that are seldom tied together at first sight, which can be nice but not if it takes too long like is the case with the Scarlet Arc.

I think we will end up with the same issues as with the orbs (apart from massive glitching), the dominant server will take the boost and only get more dominant. Which is one of the reasons orbs got removed, no?

Winners will have access to the finisher until there are new winners. At that point those people will gain access and the winners from the previous season will no longer have access to the stomp.

Think of it like this, the finisher is intended to show off who won the last season. If you don’t continue to win each and every season, you will not retain the bragging rights.

Don’t you think it would be better to get a different finisher reward every season and let them keep it so they can still show off they one at one time. 1 finisher every 7 weeks isn’t too much work I assume?

Another question: For those that aren’t receiving credit, did you disconnect or swap characters during the event?

very often this was the case yes. Shouldnt you still get the credit because you were there at the end though?

Also if it gets fixed, we will get the counts we shouldve had or is that not possible?

Well just did event in, I dunno one I hadnt done yet, did not dc but no count for it. Is htere still nobody there looking at this because it is getting very annoying I got 4 counted while I have done 8-9. This is for all achievs counting them, also the vorrp one.

Just checked and its pretty clear than once u DC u are screwed. Which sucks because I have constant DC’s in these cramped maps. I was even in the same overflow but a 1 minute DC ensured I did not get the count, again I thinks that 4 maps already? Only thing I can do is AFK the map to be sure I dont dc and get reward, this cannot be the goal?

ive been at 4-5 events,only counted 2 and I am pretty sure I got booted out of all but 1.
Succeeded 3 of them but all guides say you don’t even need to succeed. I was at the end of each event.

So I have got this issue for quite a while, but now it is just getting out of control. I had accepted that I could not play WvW on my desktop (can on my laptop al be it with lots of lagg), but now I cannot even do anything in PvE either. The events u do are nice but it is all so cramped that I crash every 5-10 minutes.

The issue seems to have only gotten worse the last few updates which might be the reason more and more of these threads pop up. At this point I can just tell that I am going to crash within the minute because my worldmap and characters get blue and green.

TBH I dont get this, why has this not happened before in other games? Honestly I am at a point where the only thing I can do is stop playing this game, because this issue does not allow me to play.

WvW? Crash every 5 minutes, gauntlet? 10 minutes If I am lucky. Farming orr? crash crash double crash. I pretty much have to go to empty zones to play this game because Riot is making things so busy this issue pops up every 5-10 minutes, leaving me unable to enjoy this game any longer. I just don’t get why this cannot be fixed, since I have never ever had this issue on other games in the past, why would this one all of a sudden have it?

Add other issues like maps not loading properly, Tp, inventory, characters, this game becomes more and more unplayable with every update for players having 32 bit systems, don’t you think this is just ridiculous? Why not the good support for 32 bit systems?

The thing with the Red Wedding is that you don’t actually see it coming. Whereas with Queen Jennah’s possible assassination, you already see the story building up to it. Even if she doesn’t get killed you will probably see some dramatic events. I say probably because ANet might let us down by not having a Battle for Divinity’s Reach.

Actually, at least in the books, you saw that coming.

Since a dev is watching I’ll get some questions out too:

1) What is up with the trap system? We have seen 2 traps introduced and that is it. It is considered a failed experiment because it is seldom used? (I have never seen it) Or are there still ideas to work with it/change they way it works in the future with more options? Or is the idea canned and do the current 2 traps just stay in?

2) With the recent introduction of the permanent finisher chooser, will we also see finishers exclusive to WvW, bot unlimited and as drops(x time use). It is not used as frequently as in PvP but at least it gives some rewards + u can show off.

3) As someone has mentioned, special skins for gaining WvW ranks, and other rewards, perhaps build out a system like we have for AP and HoM for the skins? Have system for personal rewards and perhaps something for server rewards, although that can’t be too much since people who have never helped also get it so doesn’t seem fair to give them big rewards too, so I think its better to put those in personal WxP ranks.

4) it has been said, will say so again achievements. A huge system with great rewards has been rolled out for achievement points, however for WvW the achievement points are few and U need a ridiculous amount. Putting WvW players at a great disadvantage if they wish to require the skins from that. I do think this is something that can be done on a relative short term, once U find good ideas to make achievements (ask the players?).

5) Changes to loot, its an old one but I do believe it poses some problems. Often in zerg fights u keep moving around, parts get flooded with enemies so U cannot go and get the bags that dropped there, focussing on has a bag dropped is bad for the focus of the fight so this is IMO an issue that needs to be resolved, the loot is already not that great and the one we get can easily be missed. My idea would be to put a chest at spawn and everything that drops gets put in that chest, if u access it it gives your items in a fifo manner so U cant abuse it for extra space and of course your gold.

6) More buy options with badges of honour, apart from siege and one time ascended there isn’t that much interesting to buy with the tons of badges u get. Perhaps make it possible to buy crafting materials and such to make it easier to grind for specific gear?

Asking around there seems to be confusion and a belief that both fractals will be created at some point…it’s like real life politics- “oh that will never happen”. Players are looking at immediate things (WP costs vs keys they never buy) instead of the cost down the road(the better fractal). Wait a few months for “When are we getting the abaddon one? I thought it was coming after reactor.”

real life politics is like “what you really thought we were going to do that? Foolish kids!” and u get neither :p

I’m assuming it’s still possible to withdraw them as items though, because some of those items are needed for Mystic Forge recipes. Or will you be able to load the Forge directly from the wallet?

they are not used in MF, u need to buy the items from the dungeon specific shop and throw those in MF

Sooo, I’m guessing the currencies at the bottom of your inventory will not show anymore, but you’ll see the collective amount from your wallet. And whenever you go to a vendor, you’ll see the amount straight from your wallet, and you don’t have to ‘withdraw’ to access it.

Does that mean whenever you’re awarded tokens they’ll go straight to your wallet, and you don’t have to sent to your wallet, as the current token/badge right click option suggests.

Yes. After the wallet is in place, the tokens are no longer physical objects, they are handled the same way that gold, karma and laurels are handled. So like you said, it makes it a lot easier to use them at the vendors as you no longer have to go to your bank to withdraw them.

And to answer another question: Pristine Fractal Relics are not part of the wallet.

Will you still be able to deposit gold in bank? Or is this also gone and is achievement bound to the wallet now?

An excellent question. It might just be to accumulate 100g in your wallet now.

This just points to a bigger problem in “Level-Appropriate” content not being rewarding or commensurate with “Skill” & Coordination. While Queensdale is full of level 50+ people in all Rare Gear …. the Mid-level zones are EMPTY except for a few newbies in Green & Blue gear clearly and SADLY struggling with harder content intended for atleast a Duo…
( I know b/c I spend most of my time on my 80’s in those mid-tier areas. But I do stop to help them whenever I can).

Hopefully the Blog Changes Colin announced will CHANGE THIS by giving players a lot more Materials they really WANT so they can go back to focusing on their mains directly or atleast getting a better variety of Crafting mats to PL their alts back in town on the crafting tables “like the rich kids get to do”

Actually I am afraid it will make it worse with the upgrade of loot for champions, unless they make that daily too.
