"Power Creep" and the gloomyness

Actually you just inspired me, naked lupicus run with level 80 weapons sometime this week lol full party.

DO IT!!!! Mad props to you.

Dego, in the beginning, I too thought that this game was mostly skill, seeing that I never died while my wife died at every encounter. Then I hit lvl 80 and got better gear.

Please try it. You may have a completely different opinion. With better gear, a challenging fight went from two-three normal adds to gather all the mobs in the area and mop the floor with them. It almost seemed like a joke.

MMORPGs, in particular, change things, but rarely do they change a core philosophy in how a game is built. I think that’s what a lot of people are upset about. In a fight between two lvl 80s, it’s fair to think that the person who invested 400 hours into the character would win against someone who spent 100. However, the reason for this was supposed to be because of skill not gear. In a game where one of the main design philosophy was that gear would not matter, it matters very much and looks to matter even more.

I don’t know if I’d jump the gun on blaming NCSoft. They were overlords in GW1 as well. If you’re going to credit Anet for GW1, you can’t discredit NCSoft. Also, what company lets their developers work without a deadline (which was the whole enabling aspect behind the "when it’s ready)? NCSoft has been fairly lenient from the looks of it.

It may just be that Anet and/or NC escaped much scrutiny with a smaller game, but were just not ready for a project the size of GW2.

1: LFM Fractals, people under 80 need not apply
2: Why can’t I play if I’m not level 80?
1: Only serious players please.
3: You’re not a serious player if you’re not lvl 80?
4: Come on, how serious can you be if you’re still not 80?
5: It’s a lvl 80 dungeon
2: I thought the whole upleveling thing was so everyone could enjoy the game?
1: LF1M Fractals, lvl 80s only

But yeah, I never liked the DE. They don’t do anything, together or not. It was me and four other dudes that always saves the day.

We’re counting on you, Synitare, to ask those hard questions on our behalf. Like, what’s up with spitting on our faces with a straight up lie on a 5 year promise and acting like we’re supposed to like it?

Seriously, it would not have been as big a deal if they had added new items with the same stats and a slot for agony resistance for people who want to stack it for dungeon bragging rights.

Isn't warrior a little bit OP in PvE?

I’d like to think that it has more to do with the fact that you’re now having played all 8 classes and having put so much time into the game. It isn’t that the Warrior is OP, but that your skill has at the game has increased. I played a warrior as my first character and some story paths were just absolutely punishing.

I’d like to think that this is the case. I have four characters. Ranger, mesmer, warrior, and guardian. The warrior was my first, and I died a lot in the beginning with him. I don’t die on the ranger and mesmer, no matter how many aggros my wife draws and dies on me.

OP, I am curious as to how you find the guardian. I felt the same way about my guardian that you do with your warrior.

Developers aren’t stupid. They’re not gonna re design the game just because a few people whine.

They do it because the record in their hands indicate that – not just a few people like you have presumed – a lot of players are getting bored of grinding for skin. People aren’t as interested in skins as the GW1 purists, and the player population must have declined to a point where they had to do something.

I’m sorry, but if your so called “player base” is enough to keep the game afloat, and if grinding for skins is actually keeping the player interested as much as you claimed it should, then there’s no reason why they would change it.

This notion that the developers have infallible data and/or interpret data objectively is a huge fallacy. Numerous developers have admitted in the past in other mainstream games that forum whining did affect their choices, and sometimes, led them to believe that the majority wanted something that simply was not the case.

In the end, LOTRO admitted their mistake and got rid of the Radiance system. To be honest, the backlash on radiance was not even close to the backlash on the current development. I don’t think any developer expected such a massive reaction, and this should have immediately raised many red flags to anyone with half a brain.

When a topic gets 95 pages of “discussion” in a few hours on a board that normally supports topics to about 4 pages on average….it’s a really big deal.

not to mention pages of sometimes intelligent discussions that disappeared (not merged, just erased)

forum users are about 5% of gw2 community and the other 95% are probably looking forward to the new patch as i am just saying

What you are seeing here though is from a lot of users who do not normally post in the forums and who are now only doing so because of recent developments (like me). So yes, previously all the whining about endgame, no progression grind, raiding came from your five percentile.

This.

and the vocal minority that Anet “listened” to in this case were the whiners who periodically pestered the boards. Many people were content in playing the game as it was and did not post.

You can see from the massive instant reaction, in this case, that people who normally do not post are willing to do so because this is something they vehemently disagree with.

No.

You can’t go back on a such a huge premise of the game like gear progression. I wouldn’t care so much if they never said that because then I wouldn’t have bought the game for myself and my friends.

Whenever a discussion like this comes up, there’s always people who say, “No one is forcing you to get the gear. You can do everything fine with normal gear.”

All I can do in response is just sigh. These people just possess such a lack of understanding of human nature and social psychology. Bottom line is, gear progression, no matter how slight, affects both the game and the social aspect of the game.

On to a more important point…

A premise in this game was that there would be no vertical progression, only horizontal, so why go back on that word? Why destroy the trust of so many consumers? Sure, some people may welcome this change. But if Arenanet’s promises mean nothing, what else do you think they would do in the future? For instance, how would you feel if they decided to put subscriptions, “buy to win” options in the gem market, and make legendaries obsolete?

Can we just put Eredon Terrace to the bottom?

Can we just put Eredon Terrace to the bottom of the rankings?

The whole point of having three servers is to maintain a semblance of balance. The two weaker sides gang up on the strong server. In practice, though, this does not happen. The weak server is taken out and repeatedly pummeled because it’s easy pickings.

This is especially true because, often, the weak server is absurdly weak compared to the other two servers because they are barren servers that had massive transfers out after reaching the top.

Take a look at Eredon Terrace. They are humiliated every week starting from day one. It’s not fun for anyone involved. They ranked #1 in the worst server category (the biggest movers down in ratings) in the last match ups out of all the NA servers. The sad part is, this came after weeks of getting destroyed. Given the way rankings work, it will take a while before they are matched with servers they can not just get obliterated by.

Just drop them to the bottom already. It’ll provide more interesting matches for all parties.

4. Vengeance is still bugged and kills you a second time at your spawn if you die while vengeanced and respawn before the effect expires – which can basically turn an instant rez into a 20 sec rez. This means that using vengeance can actually be a bad thing, depending on the situation.

This. Also, in 2v2 or bigger fights, a warrior using vengeance is just a free rally for anyone down.

I scoured the whole fort. Agent Zrii appears for a second or two and disappears on and off, but I still managed to talk to her. I saw so many random NPCs (including Gara, who is bugged and has Shashoo’s lines), but I could not find Wynnet, Efut, and Doern.

I guess they forgot. I was just afraid that that they were the casualties of the war, and I didn’t know about it.

Say it. Name and shame them.

Krosslite, this is just a reminder that forum rules prohibit you from naming and shaming people no matter how much they might deserve it. I know you weren’t going to, but just in case the peer pressure starts getting to you. No need in getting yourself into trouble.

Can I replay a Personal Story instance?

Is there like a “memory” function, where I can pick an instance I already did from my personal story and replay it? Sometimes I miss a dialogue, the quest bugs out and I don’t get to play it properly, or the instance was so fun I’d like another try at it. I’d like to replay some of them without having to start a new character and play all over again. I don’t even need the rewards.

noob question

Hi. I played WvW for the first time yesterday on my warrior. I saw a thief in the distance and saw him disappear. I read about Backstab and a couple other skills knocking people out, so I started watching carefully. I got hit with a big hit, so I immediately dodged, then I put up Endure Pain. I saw myself get hit for a bunch of zeros (about three or four), then I died when the stance ended. The thief was stealthed the whole time so I was just blindly swinging/trying to run away. The thief only appeared after I died to laugh and disappear again.

Can someone help me out? What did the thief do and how can I avoid the same result in another encounter? Thanks

I haven’t finished the game so I don’t know if something was done, but…

Whatever happened to the weapon that the moles developed (the weapon that amplified Jormag’s roar)? It not only was extremely destructive but also summoned a crapload of Jormag’s corrupted minions.

Now, what if you took that to fight Zaitan and the other dragons? It’s well known that the dragons’ minions fight each other. Can’t we make replicates of the weapon with different roars and start shooting them in other dragons’ territories? It’s not really a solution, but it seems like something the Order of Whispers would be very interested in. If you keep getting certain dragon minions killed, I would assume it would be that much easier to reach the dragon.

I've come to dislike waypoints.

Remember in DAOC, you would buy a mount to somewhere, and go have dinner, watch some TV, and come back to play the game? Then you forget to bind yourself to the local stone, die, and end up having to do that all over again? I’d rather not have that.

I personally walk everywhere, talk to every single NPC (which leads to quite a lot of bugs btw), stop to take pictures of the scenery, but sometimes, I just have to port to keep myself from going insane.

I like waypoints. I would use them more if it was cheaper.

The last MMORPG I played was Lord of the Rings Online. While there were some complaints especially when something big failed, the general mood of the boards was playful and positive. I was kind of taken aback by the negativity and abrasive nature on the boards here. If I had read the boards before buying the game, I would not have. The boards give the impression that people just seem very unhappy with large game mechanics (ones that are here to stay). I am not sure if that’s due to the community we have, the state of the game, or both.

How do you control your character?

(Ugh, it took two weeks but I’m finally able to log in to the forums.)

Hi, all. I wanted to know if people move using the mouse (hold both buttons down to move) or the keyboard.

Here’s my beef:
Guild Wars 2 wants you to participate in battles actively, almost like an action rpg where you have your hand on the keypad at all times for responsive dodging, maneuvering, and etc. Yet,

1. some default skill keys are far from the keyboard controls, forcing you to take your hand off the keyboard controls (makes sense since some classes have a total of 15 skill buttons)

2. the keyboard controls turn too slowly, and there is no way to change the turn speed (I’d like it personally to turn about four times faster, so that a slight tap is about 40 degrees)

3. if you use the mouse to turn, then you can’t strafe around targets, move in and out, and use all the skills at the same time, resulting in a brief moment of standing still while you fire off a skill

4. if you map out keys and use two hands on the keyboard, aside from the fact that it turns too slowly, you cannot use aoe ground skills quickly

5. there are no keyboard camera controls

I can’t seem to find a good middle ground. Anyone have suggestions on how you are set up?

To be honest, I’d be happy if there was a way to adjust the keyboard turn speed. That would alleviate most of the problems for me.
