I don’t understand where all the negativity is coming from…. I get that some people don’t like guild wars 2.. that’s great. But why in the world are you stalking the forums?
The game is obviously doing very well, and even if they weren’t, with the amount of players they’re about to get from China, I really don’t see the US game being dropped anytime soon at all.
And even THAT being said, there are a lot of people who played GW1 and actually really like GW2 (myself included). Is it mechanically the same as GW1? No. Is the story a little lighter than GW1? Yes. These were things that were to be expected. The game is open-world and that means the developers have to deal with a huge number of variables that were never even an issue with GW1 simply because of its design.
The story will catch up, in my opinion, now that most of the graphical problems, skill bugs, quest bugs etc have been fixed. And yes, I know there are quite a few of these around, but launching a game with millions of people playing it, trying to exploit it, using different builds, using different sequences of skills, using tonics and then aggroing, managing underwater combat, combining JPs, Vistas, heart quests, DE’s, personal story, PVP, WVWVW, balancing loot, etc, etc, etc, takes time to build a framework.
All of these things would be much MUCH more manageable if every zone was an instance only permitting 8 people in the area at once…like GW1.
Good things are coming, I am sure.
Congrats, ANET!
I just got a lodestone yesterday while running through orr doing map completion. Killed a spark at Lyssa’s temple and got one. I wasn’t farming them, but one dropped. I only spent like 10 minutes if that in the area, and did not target sparks any more than anything else. So, just a head’s up. Pretty sure they’re still there, and unless I got really lucky with the RNG, nothing has changed. If they were lowered, I HIGHLY doubt I would have gotten one at all.
@Elothar
Well said. That is exactly how I feel too, only I feel like you explained it better, which also offered clarity to myself about why I feel the way I do.
It is indeed a sense of gratitude from the company that I respect. That would otherwise be lost and more-than-likely perceived as a way of bullying their players into buying gems had the offer been announced beforehand.
And no, I did not received a kite. And yes, I bought gems in July.
But still, I feel like Anet actually IS grateful to its player-base for sticking along for the ride. They know they are taking risks, and trying things that may not be exactly to everyone’s liking. But they’re making a game that is unique in that there are many many many ways to enjoy it. And they’ve stuck to their guns pretty firmly about that, imo.
I say, bravo.
But, can you physically have both in your inventory if they are soulbound to different characters?
I know that the soulbound runes from dungeon chests can’t even be put in anyone else’s inventory.
So if you are planning to do this, you might want to make sure you do NOT equip the Sunrise on your other character at all. Because once it is soulbound, I don’t know if you can have them at the same time. And if you don’t have them in the the same inventory, I have no idea how you would put them in the mystic forge together.
Are the skins you buy with golden tickets account bound? Because if they are not, get the wind catcher and sell it on the TP. It’s worth about 9 gold. Or was.
That’s what I’d do.
During the discussion between Mai Trin and the guy with the guns, she mentions a woman named Scarlet.
My guess (and probably wrong) is Livia from GW1. As she was in the new GW2 novel. And it shows that she doesn’t age. Plus she has always worn lots of red. Google image her or wiki her if you don’t know who I am talking about.
My questions is since the last thing we know about her is that she was leading the shining blade and trying to help defeat Zhaitan also, why would she be the main character’s nemesis? She still has the Scepter of Orr I believe (though it is likely hidden somewhere).
Anyone else think I’m on to something?
I don’t get what the big deal is about OTHER people having cosmetic stuff that you don’t because you did not or are not willing to play the prequel as they have already done.
The fact is that people with these rewards actually DID do something that you didn’t do.
End of story.
Anet tried to do something nice for the community and everyone is just taking their rewards and incentives for granted.
You will eventually make up the points that GW1 players already have. And also, it was by no means an easy feat to get something like “God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals.” To make an achievement for obtaining that title, and then rewarding you with 5 points would be laughable.
Besides, you get FAR more points for doing the living story updates. And there are plenty of people (due to time constraints) that cannot do those. Many of them GW1 players, because the players who have HoM titles had a ton of time to grind when THAT game was young. This means that those players are likely 10 years older now, and more than likely have more responsibilities and less time to play.
I don’t see why anyone should be concerned about what OTHER people are achieving, especially when it has no bearing on your play at all. It’s not like it even effects the market prices or anything, so why all the hubbub?

@Foxgloved
Thanks for the advice. I am a fairly “casual” player time-wise. I don’t spend hours a day in game because I just can’t. I already have my clovers and only have about 50 of each T6 mat.
I actually used 10 of my ectos yesterday to try the X10 clover recipe (hoping for a fail), and got … 10 clovers.. so now I have 87 clovers, and am down 10 ectos and obby shards. I already have my gift of mastery, but I don’t know if this is a wise way to go about getting the mats or if I should just save the money from the ectos I would be using in the recipe and just buy the mats I need.
Any suggestion on that end? It will probably take me a year at my rate (since I don’t CoF grind) to get all the mats. And I thought I was making progress by getting the precursor AND the gift of mastery… but soo many mats, lol.
@rest of the post
I heard the effects are somewhat underwhelming, but I honestly do expect them to fix it sometime in the future. At their own convenience. There ARE bigger issues than legendary particle effects, but I’m sure they’ll get to it.
My big question is what will come first? The easier precursor method/scavenger hunt or the particle fix.
If it is fixed before the “hunt,” I expect the precursor to soar in price as right now it is only 44 gold, which is quite cheap comparatively.
(edited by soakman.7539)
How did you guys get all of your crystalline dusts? I want to go for The Minstrel, but the T6 mats are holding me back. Did you guys just run CoF path 1 and buy everything?
^ It can be if you buy the lvl 80 exotic gear with your tokens.
Honestly though, if you want to have something to work toward, I’d take a look at some skin galleries and come up with a mix-and-match armor set out of the skins to work towards to keep you busy if you want to set some goals for yourself.
A full set of exotics is easy to get, all you have to do is play one dungeon a few dozen times.
If you want to actually enjoy a variety of content as you play, try to find an end-game “look” that you can feel proud of.
Check out the different dungeon vendors and cultural armors in LA to see what you like together. Also, check out the mystic forge skins available via the wiki for different weapon sets.
You basically have to devise your own goals after you hit 80. Do what you think will be fun. Master all the JP’s, map complete, wuvwuv, spvp, make yourself pretty (or terrifying), organize guild events/missions….
Heck, guest on an RP server. It’s really up to what you enjoy doing. Fractals, and explorable Arah are probably the most difficult PVE content if you’re looking for a challenge.
(edited by soakman.7539)
Soakman, you might be right, but you only have to look at the prices for any item on the TP with “berserker” stats over any other stat combination to know that somewhere, it is not working as intended. Cleric’s = cheap as hell, probably just salvage it or throw it in the forge. Berserkers = profit, because it’s what 90% of the gaming community want.
Sure. I won’t argue that it is working as intended. BUT, I will also argue that a lot of the berserker cost problem stems from people forcing themselves to think of efficiency over fun.
Yeah, you can get through content much faster with full berserker ultra-dodgers, but that doesn’t mean professions can’t do other things effectively.
It’s just less efficient.
And that’s part of what I mean. Can you imagine if only ONE class could DPS? Imagine all the groups that would refuse all of the other ones. Or at least insist a certain number of X class were in the party.
It’s not the professions that that need rebalanced, it’s the AI or mechanics, or skills. Some combo of those.
They need to force people out of all berserker’s is what they need to do.
I do agree with a lot of your points, but I can’t see any other option that will allow me to play nearly all the content on any class with any combo of my friends.
And to me, this is just simply more important than feeling like each class has its own niche role. Instead each has it’s own relatively interesting mechanism to do the same things other classes can do.
(ps I know they are professions, but I’m comparing them to/with GW1 at this point, so I’m using class to be clear.)
Honestly, I really think they only approached the trait/skill/role system the way they did because in GW1 particular classes had a very very hard time finding people to let them play with them because their “role” wasn’t useful for the particular instance/dungeon/questchain etc.
They wanted to avoid having people sitting in hubs spamming GLF monk, for literally 15-30 minutes at a time, and they wanted people to be able to spend more time playing than not.
How do you solve both problems? I really don’t know. But I think people want to min/max their roles, and ANET doesn’t want to make that a possibility because inevitably professions will become tiered for different roles and players will be gated out of content simply because they prefer one profession’s playstyle (in their not-optimal-role) over another.
pricer, I am definitely NOT going to disagree with how you perceive the game. In a way, you are right.
But my version of fun does not really equate to “be-better-than-everyone-else.” I can understand people with highly competitive natures feeling that way, and I DO like a bit of competition (I played LoL for a while for instance).
But, Guild Wars 2 is really about being able to hop on and NOT be gated from MOST content. I can get on and hang out with friends I cannot go physically see. I don’t have to be frustrated due to griefing because there are very very few ways to actually do that in this game.
I don’t know what to tell you. It just sounds like this isn’t really the kind of game you want to be playing if you want to feel significantly better than other people.
But I can guarantee you that even though dodging and knowing dungeon mechanics are things that are fairly straight-forward and easy to master, the equivalent of “saving your group’s butt” in a difficult situation is the same as “teaching your group how to play this content.”
If you really want to feel like you’re doing the heavy lifting in a group, or saving your group’s skin, why don’t you try advertising for PuG’s that need some pointers.
Don’t worry about efficiency, or whatever, but actually use your skill to help other people. That seems like it would be more in-line with the philosophy of keeping your group’s head above the water.
But if you are looking for a game where you can be competitive instead of cooperative, this is not that game.
In fact, this game is probably the opposite of that game.
EDIT: I do want to say that I don’t play a LOT of SPVP. Maybe there’s some decent competition there (?), but wuvwuv just feels like you’re being sucked along a current in the middle of the ocean. You don’t really have a choice because if you leave that current, you either die or end up not really accomplishing anything.

@ RoseofGilea & Gaile Gray
This also happened to me. I lost 60 Arah tokens a couple of days ago. I actually DID file a support ticket. I assumed that the loss was a result of a “roll-back,” but after inspecting my inventory it looks like I still have the lvl 80 gold drop from that dungeon as well as my money from the wondrous bags.
But I still am missing all 60 of the Arah tokens, plus the few tokens I got from the bags.
I don’t know what the cause was, but believing it was roll-back related, this issue is severely impacting my choice to play at the moment because Arah is not easy to find a group for and atm it is my main goal for playing.
Support DID get back to me, and apologized, but said that they did not have the capability to give individual characters Items and/or gold, so there was nothing they could do.
" As much as we’d love to help, I’m afraid we don’t have any tools by which to undo what you’re saying occurred. We’re also not able to grant individual characters any items or currency."
I understand this. However, I found the ‘what-you’re-saying-occurred’ in the response a bit condescending, and I really would like to know the cause so I can avoid it in the future.
If there is any insight relating to this matter garnered, please post it here so I know when it is “safe” to play again.
Change profession to Warrior/Guardian w/ Greatsword. Less complicated gameplay problem solved. Do Hearts and craft to level easily. Group for challenging content. No jump puzzles necessary, and no map completion needed either.
But you’re missing out on basically the main reason why GW2 is a GOOD game. These features seem like things you don’t like. You may be playing the wrong MMO for your interests/playstyle.
Also, map completion of high end areas such as Cursed Shore, Malchor’s Leap, and other high end areas (Fireheart Rise? The volcano area?).
Not sure if it’s always 100% but I’ve gotten 2 exotics at once multiple times on different characters. And I mean… they ARE random in a sense, but exotic quality is not. If you know what I mean.
Also, just wanted to add this:
Manifesto: (n.) a written statement declaring publicly the intentions, motives, or views of its issuer.
I do not see the word promise. I do see the words intentions, motive, and views. All of which I see existing in the game time and time again. Does every one of these things exist in all facets of the game? No. But the devil is in the details.
I wholeheartedly believe they are on track with their manifesto, and attempting to also keep players of ALL types to have at least one or two good reasons to keep playing and to see what is coming.
I also want to just remind you that Dailies are completely optional. If you don’t like them, then don’t do them.
It SOUNDS like you don’t want to do specific things for rewards, which sounds a lot like give everyone a single type of reward and a MASS market to spend it in that will allow you to purchase anything you want with your currency.
This doesn’t sound like fun to me. It sounds really really boring. It sounds like you might just be the kind of person who doesn’t like to try new things, and because of that, you insist that the developers are at fault for providing MORE than what you want.
If you want something in ANY game, you have to work for it. Even in solo-play console games. You can’t get a certain type of gear without beating a certain boss, or you can’t get that really awesome skill until you grind out 500 skill points fighting random battles….
I feel like what you are looking for is a trading card game. Or pokemon. Or a fighting game. A game that has a playstyle that is ONE thing and expectations are defined by its genre.
GW2 is many many things. You don’t have to do them all or like them all to have fun. And if you think you do, then it’s no wonder you aren’t having fun. The amount of content is huge.
That is MY opinion.
TL;DR – Trust as defined by the OP is meeting his specific expectations about how an MMO should reward players. GW2, instead, plays differently and has content the OP doesn’t want to play/try. My opinion is that OP needs to try new things in game for fun, or find a game that can meet his expectations.
I do not agree with this definitions of Trust.

Hi, I just wanted to give an update. First, I’d like to apologize for setting off such a firestorm of speculation—I was trying to provide assurance that Final Rest is, indeed hooked up and working, but it’s not likely to have dropped yet. Like I said, the odds that I posted were a quick calculation after looking at the drop chance, how often the event runs, and other factors.
On a totally unrelated note, large event chests are being upgraded to make them more rewarding, so the odds of Final Rest and other rare items appearing should see an increase in a future update.
Translation: Final Rest was never in the game so we told you how incredibly rare it was and it will be added into the game in an update where large event chests are upgraded.
I would have rather you just told us it wasn’t in the game than try to convince me that ONE item in this ENTIRE game was so incredibly rare that you couldn’t give us any reasonable hints to its location.
If the above math is correct, the number that would have dropped had it been a reward from something more “farmed,” there could very very likely be one or two people out there that HAVE the skin that just don’t know people want it.
I don’t think it is that impressive besides the rarity, and if you don’t like skulls and scythes, and you don’t know it’s rare… well… I imagine someone could pick it up and be like, “Hm. Nice. Ectos.”
Just because a few of you guys are obsessed with the skin doesn’t mean the majority of people playing out there even know what it is. In fact, most of the times I mention it in map chat, people are like ‘Huh? What’s that.’
Has a dev confirmed that one has NEVER dropped?
Stop accusing the devs of lying and cheating you out of things. What in the world would they gain from that? All the other times they’ve erred, they’ve admitted it.
Also, you can try to invite the enemy server players to your party. Because you can still do that in wuvwuv. I had someone from another server do that to me at a JP. In party chat, he was all, “I’m standing guard for my friend while he does this JP and to extend a truce.”
I was like.. oh. Okay. Then I started the JP and 3 other people from the same server jumped me partway through. I WP’d back and started zerging for badges. Because no matter what, you’re going to have campers. And it’s suuuuper frustrating when all you’re trying to do is the JP.
I need a Balth Temple for Shards. Any uncontested?
I also have this problem on the Dragon Brand Lornar’s Pass area. Any daily progress I make gets rolled-back.
Try this site maybe. The Steam Gizmo was the focus I was talking about. Maybe what you’re looking for is on here. There are no particle effects in these screens though.

What I think is quite unfair is that this event, whether you liked it or not, was absolutely free, provided great rewards (if you got them), and was bundled with a ton of OTHER new FREE content.
NOBODY playing the game lost out on anything. You know what I think? I think Arenanet should have never rewarded anyone with anything because none of you guys appreciate their efforts. And every time they try to make things right, you piddle all over them (and yourself in the process).
I’m just saying that everyone is being a weeeeeeee bit melodramatic and overly sensitive.
They’re adding new ways to get precursors, precursors were not even close to a guaranteed get from the chests, none of the items are anything better than what you could craft on your own (relatively cheaply), and none of the game’s content even makes you feel like you need a full set of exotics to survive to begin with. Especially if you play with any other people.
I’m sure they know how you guys feel. How could you not by looking at the topics alone? Calm down, send a ticket, if they deny you appeal their decision with proof if you really really think you MUST have a karka chest, or drop the game and go play something that you don’t care so much about.
Because in the end, if you didn’t LOVE the game, why are you so mad?
I agree. It is getting a little out of hand in my personal opinion. But like they say, you give people an inch and they will walk aaaaalll over you. Its like giving into the spoiled child, one day you will have to put your foot down.
Using your foot on a child… good emotion there.
I get the sentiment, but I think it’s off base to think of patches and content releases in a paid-for MMO as “free.” These updates are free only in the sense that the car-wash I get at my garage is ‘free’ or the breakfast that comes with a motel room is ‘free.’ I have a receipt that shows it was purchased…
But I paid for the release content. And believe me, there is more in this 60 dollar game than the vast majority of console games of the same price (barring Skyrim, which in my honest opinion, got boring waaaay faster than GW2 due to it’s overly simple combat). Do I expect them to bring extra content to the game? Of course I do. They said they would from the beginning.
My point is that if you didn’t get what you wanted for your 60 dollars, you’re playing the wrong game. Arenanet does not OWE you free items, exotics, one-time events (a programmer’s nightmare I imagine), 20-slot bags, reimbursed in-game rewards, etc.
None of this specific content was promised to you when you paid for the game. There will be more updates, more content, more patches, more EVERYTHING.
Politely make the problems you had with the event and reward system known. Offer our feedback. Place a ticket. Appeal it if you think they’re wrong. Move on. Either to new content, whatever you were doing before you didn’t get a karka chest, or a new game. Whatever will make you happy. Just please don’t ruin the environment for everyone else.
I don’t know if there is a bow equivalent, but I know the “gizmo” focus skin has bubbles like you’re talking about. It’s supposed to be some kind of electric energy residue I think. I would try just killing things in the asura starting area. I’m pretty sure that’s where I got my skin. You can always transmute it after that.
What I think is quite unfair is that this event, whether you liked it or not, was absolutely free, provided great rewards (if you got them), and was bundled with a ton of OTHER new FREE content.
