Mesmer clones explode into pink butterflies. That’s pretty cute. Also Asurans are cute.

She should play an Asuran Mesmer for maximum cuteness. Oh, also, consider buying the Quaggan Mail carrier with gems to have a silly little aquatic cute creature bring her mail as he flies in on a helium-filled balloon.

Just an FYI, you do not have to be in the same “world (server)” to play in PVE together. You just have to be in the same region. If you are both in the U.S., and you are in the same map and the sillhouette of your friend in the party info at the top is blacked out, just right click on it and hit “Join in X map.”

Due to the megaservers, your world/server only really impacts being able to play WvWvW together. So feel free to buddy up with anyone in any world so long as they are in your region.

Norn Utility/Personal Story Bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: soakman.7539

soakman.7539

I have to rush off to work so I’m going to try to make this short.

The personal story instance for Norn where you received Beigarth’s axe he forges and have to fight the Jotun opens up all three of your utility skills. You can slot them in the instance while you are wielding the “bundle weapon.” I didn’t have enough unlocked, but I had access to all of my racial utilities so I slotted those. At this point I was about lvl 13.

I figured it was intentional for that one fight. However, when the instance was over, they were still unlocked though I couldn’t change the utilities that were slotted in the slots I hadn’t unlocked yet. I COULD use them however.

I know the NPE doesn’t allow you to use all of your utilities until a later lvl, and while I can now change both of the first two utilities since I have them unlocked via lvl, the third remains Summon Snow Wurm and cannot be changed or removed even though I shouldn’t have access to the slot yet.

Not a huge problem, but fixing it might give some insight into some other problem down the road or elsewhere.

Thanks!

Shouldn't S2 be included in HoT Package?

If ANET gave that away for free, they’d have the same debacle with people QQ-ing that they paid for it because they wanted it for HoT.

Nowhere did it say it would be free for new accounts, and it’s not free, so I don’t think there’s a problem.

I just want to say that for each person who feels “betrayed” by Anet, there is one of us that sees almost nothing wrong.

I showed GW2 to my friend, she was very interested in the game and also in the incoming expansion HoT after watching the trailer. So she read from the FAQ that she would need the core game to play HoT and she decided to buy it from a retail store for $20 on May 1st 2015, right after Chronomancer was announced.

Her oldest character is 50 days old only today. HoT prepurchase was announced and Arenanet stealth changed their FAQ about requiring the core game, now offering the core game for free if you purchase HoT for $50 minimum.

Arenanet will not refund or discount my friend, she spoke to a supervisor at their customer service and because it was purchased at a retail store they refuse to do anything about it. They will also not discount-upgrade the account to have HoT if she pays them $30($50 minus the $20 she paid at the retail store), there is no such option anyway. So my friend will have to shell out $70 in total, and only get HoT Standard.

You see almost nothing wrong with this?

These people (which were few in number) were the only ones that were actually hurt by what happened. That doesn’t excuse it, but comparatively, there were not that many. I hope you friend is satisfied with the free character slot being offered by ANET.

I know it sucks, but there really is nothing ANET can do in these cases since the purchase money went directly to the retail store. If the store was selling it for $20, that means ANET sold it to them for less than that. To refund that $20 (while showing good faith in the fanbase) would be like paying your friend for buying the game at that point.

Does $20 hurt ANET? Probably not. But it does set a precedent of ANET refunding retail sales, which economically doesn’t make sense. Sounds like they are pretty willing to help those who had trouble due to this situation, so I would suggest your friend contact Customer Support.

I just really hope it didn’t ruin the game for her, because it really is quite good. And I’d love to see some new players! If you decided to stick around, add me as a friend and I’ll help show you the ropes or answer any questions you might want to know about the game. Good luck!

I’m in the same sense of endearment to the game, but haven’t pre-purchased because I still haven’t found a retailer I can pre-purchase the boxed standard yet. A list of approved retailers for this would be beneficial.

Here you go! I found this posted by a Dev in another thread. Hope it helps! Just make sure you select the correct country!

I just want to say that for each person who feels “betrayed” by Anet, there is one of us that sees almost nothing wrong. $50 is a normal pricepoint these days. GW2 is a BTP game with no sub fee that provided content and story updates in between expansions via the “living world” system. There are a ton of features that have been announced though we do not know the extent of them at this point.

You do not HAVE to pre-purchase. If you do not feel confident, wait until some reviews come out or until the price drops, or until retailers start selling it for a few dollars less.

And finally, the base game didn’t ship with enough character slots for the EXISTING professions. Why would you assume that the expansion would give you another one just because there’s a new profession? It was never said by ANET that that was their intention, and you basically disappointed yourself by making assumptions.

I WANT the expansion to ship with the bonus core game because I want to see the game grow. I want to see new players hit 80 and then join me in my adventures in Maguuma. I do not feel that Anet owes me anything because they already gave me MORE than my initial $50 investment via the core game, living story season 1 & 2, various updates with fractals, the Aether Path dungeon, and some awesome memories.

Why you think that is going to stop because THIS time they want you to pay for larger than typical game updates (not to mention COMPLETE rehauls of existing systems that look completely BA) is beyond me.

If you want the game. Buy it. If you do not, wait for it to go on sale. If this bothers you and you must have it NOW, you must want the game…. So see step one.

@soakman: my bad, didn’t see the link (that I even quoted lol).

However, when I follow the link to the official retailers (at the end of the post that you linked), if I choose United Kingdom from the drop down menu, I get only 2 retailers: Amazon and GAME. So we have the confirmation that the pre-order on Amazon.co.uk is absolutely legit.

Proof: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/retailers/#UnitedKingdom-physical

Good good! I wasn’t sure where you were from and definitely wasn’t trying to hassle anyone. I just want to make sure everyone is on the same page so there isn’t even more backlash against ANET if they purchase the wrong thing.

@ Galandil

“Moreover, it would be utterly ridicolous for Anet considering AMAZON (which is one of the most trusted, if not THE most trusted online seller in the world) an unauthorized reseller. We’re not talking about Kinguin here.
And where do you read about shutting down the whole account (even the base one), if only the HoT key is not legit? Give a link, if there’s one.”

From the link I DID include in my post:

“This will result in your account being closed for fraud, and Customer Service will require that you purchase HoT though legitimate means before you can access your account again.”

It sounds like if you buy fraudulent source, your account will be closed until you get an authentic version of HoT.

I’m not saying Amazon is inauthentic, but they have a link to the current authentic retailers which only include (in the U.S) Bestbuy, Newegg, and Gamestop. I don’t see Amazon. I’m not a marketing guru, but I’m saying that if I were trying to get a cheaper version or whatever, I would wait a week or so JUST TO BE SAFE. This is because retail versions of the pre-purchase will be available then. I’m pretty sure that technically UNTIL the 23rd or whatever official date for 3rd party retailers is, anyone offering pre-sales/pre-orders/etc are unauthorized.

If you end up with an inauthentic version because some retailer didn’t wait long enough before selling the game, and you have to buy it AGAIN… it’s on you (and the 3rd party retailer if they flubbed the date). Even though we all know everyone will kick and scream and say “ANET DID IT AGAIN!”

Don’t be stubborn. Make the informed purchase that is right for you. Making assumptions is a very good way to tick yourself off. Whether it be about pricing, content, release dates, marketing methods or whatever else in life.

Don’t buy the game via other places unless you get confirmation from a Dev or until other retailers have been authorized to sell the game. If you do, it looks like your entire account could be shut down for fraud, and you will need to buy it AGAIN from an authentic source to play. Is that really worth saving a few bucks?

It probably WILL come out for 3rd-parties to sell at some point, but it has NOT yet. If you don’t want to pre-purchase from ANET, HOLD ON TO YOUR MONEY. Otherwise, it’s gonna cost more than the Deluxe Edition costs to be able to play because your first purchase will LITERALLY be like throwing that money away.

What boggles my mind is that people have a problem all of a sudden with paying for an expansion. Expansions have never been free, and the content that we received prior to the expansion was absolutely free (which means, you’ve already gotten quite a lot of bang for your buck).

People who like playing the portions of the game they already have can choose to not buy the expansion and simply play those same portions over again ad infinitum. This is not a problem if you do not want the new content. In fact, it’s a pretty sweet deal because if you just want to leave and hop back on to run a dungeon every two to three weeks or play a pvp match while your waiting for your GF/BF to come home, you can still do that… without having to pay a dime.

If you like the game and want to see it grow and continue to play new content, then you really should support them with your money-dollars. And if you don’t, you won’t be isolated. You just won’t get all the shiny new things that you didn’t pay for.

And if your friends who DID buy HoT don’t want to come back and do old content with you (which they will.. nobody is going to camp out in Maguuma for the rest of ever), then maybe you should join or start a guild for people who did not buy the x-pack.

There are a lot of options. If someone doesn’t pick the option that lets them continue into Maguma, they certainly can’t complain about not picking the option. It is, and always will be (for the life of the game) an option for them to choose if they become interested again later or suddenly have more free-time to play, or whatever justification they made for not buying it in the first place.

I would honestly rather have a beta test group demographic of active NEW players than experienced but bored and/or inactive players.

Obviously, the beta test group would be best if they knew the game in depth, but you can’t guarantee that vets of the game will walk in with an attitude that is not biased based on however they feel about ANET’S previous models and content drops.

There is no real way to screen players to ensure they will be the BEST beta testers… so lets all not pretend there is and let RNG do it for us. I didn’t get one by the way, but like I said above, I’m glad to have mostly active players in the beta (some of which may have grinded SW & DT for many many hours or days, which forced them to play at least a little bit more hahah).

i personally hate having a shield, this is a huge blow to my mesmer which i love so much, i cat believe my ’’elite’’ skill is going to involve a stupid shield, so extremely disappointed, BUT if the skill revolves around chronomancy, than that’s a different story

Let’s see how the shield works before you call it stupid or a blow to your build, shall we? If you’ve seen the trailer for HoT, you will know that at least one of those two skills looks amazing and is probably a game changer. The other skill will probably be a phantasm of some sort, which could do just about anything (focus phantasm uses axes and can reflect projectiles… because a focus is an axe?).

Additionally, what do you have against shields? Do you just not like the way they look? Are you mad obsessed with offense? IMO, shield looks like it’s going to be an offensive weapon, and it is going to give mesmers more AOE and control effects.

I almost literally cannot WAIT for my shield. And with the swiftness “buff” we might be getting with Signet of Inspiration, I won’t have to use focus CONSTANTLY.

Sinister Armor Chest Addition?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

soakman.7539

Hi there, I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if the Sinister stat set will be added to any of the ascended armor chests dropped in fractals.

I JUST got a Malicious Ascended Helmet Chest from a lvl 49 run, and at first I was extremely excited because I’m outfitting my engi in Sinister ascended gear and this is a condi stat chest (mostly).

But to my dismay, there were no Verata’s Helmets listed as an option. I checked the wiki and it doesn’t seem to be in any of the chests as of now.

Is this going to be added, or is this an stat set that won’t make it to the chests?

It seems silly because it is no more powerful than any other stat set. And to pick a helmet that is sub-optimal seems like a huge waste of a free ascended piece. None of my alts are really interested in the stats offered… though I could maybe go for the Condi/Pow/Vit or whatever if I had to.

But I want to hold onto the chest if the stat set was just overlooked and will be added later.

Any clue? Has this happened before with other stat sets?

I just wanted to also say… “Take it slowly.”

There is no rush to get to “endgame” in GW2 because endgame is just the regular game plus an extra dungeon and a bit more role versatility. The game is made so that you can play with friends in every zone at any level and be adequately challenged. Your level scales downward to adjust to low-end zones so that you can’t steam-roll everything.

This is obviously because ANET wants to show off the beauty of their zones and really hopes that players will enjoy them enough that they will go back to them even after hitting 80.

If you really want to enjoy GW2, my number one piece of advice is to get rid of an emphasis on “goal-oriented” mentality (aka extrinsic value). Focus on how much time went into building the world and do what you want to do for fun. There is very little NEED to grind out gold or experience here, and just about everything you do gives you one or the other or both.

Some people “farm” zones for exp and never leave because they feel like they can’t start playing until 80 because they have come from other games. Get rid of this mentality and you’ll have WAY more fun. Explore!

I just don't understand this game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: soakman.7539

soakman.7539

I just wanted to say that if you are REALLY having this much difficulty understanding the base gameplay options available to you, you should be more careful about reading the prompts given to you via the “hints” and also via your mail. As you get further in your personal story, the dungeons (story mode and explorable modes) are brought up to you via your mail and they even provide a “show me” button that shows you where the dungeon is located. I don’t even think having a full-mailbox will prevent these mails from getting to you, but maybe you should delete some of your old messages just to be sure.

If you’re still having trouble, consider joining a guild and asking some questions in guild chat. Most of your questions have very simple answers that even if you didn’t know could be easily explained in a conversation.

Taking the time to retype essentially the in-game hints and dungeon mails sent to your mailbox is asking a lot…which would be fine if this conversation were real-time. But since it is not, I advise the above options.

How is it a waste if they put out good content that leaves a history within the game? It’s not like the living story removes new content… they are constantly feeding us more content.

So what if you miss one.. there’s another one that you’re playing at any given time instead.

Not to mention the quality of the living story and its accessibility have both been improved since season 2 began.

I don’t follow your logic.

The Living Story team is not the team that is putting together long-term content release. This has been said by Anet quite a few times. Those things that you want are in development… they’re just not finished yet.

I was with the idea of balance of the eternal alchemy and the elder dragons but something just came to mind. If the pale tree knows of this balance and how critical it is to the world, why would Sylvari be fighting the elder dragons? Why would any Sylvari’s mission in life (like Caithe and the PC if Sylvari) be to kill Zhaitan.

It’s entirely possible that the tree didn’t actually KNOW this information, but rather that the dragons are a threat to her personally (being a thing full of magic)

Episode 3 should shine some light on the subject, assuming we get that audience and get to ask her about it.

Eh, I don’t like that. I’m much more confident and ok with the Pale Tree(s) being seeds of Mordremoth who simply didn’t answer the call than to find out that the Sylvari are center of Tyria as a whole. It sounds redundant and way more mary sue-ish than the cliche theory being that the Pale Tree(s) are champions and Mord’s children.

But we’re likely to gather quite a bit of information come Episode 3 surely. I just really hope that’s not the case. The Sylvari are the poster child for ANet, they wanted something different than the typical elves, trolls, and gnomes so they came up with the Asura, Charr, and Sylvari. I just don’t want to see the Sylvari constantly center stage at every single Season plot. Part of the reason why I’m rooting for the Champion theory is that hopefully when we go off to fight Prim, Jorm, Kral, and Bubb that we wont have to deal with Sylvari taking the ultimate hero.

Can we never use the term “Mary Sue” again? There is nothing Mary Sue about the Pale Tree(s) being Mord’s minions… is it particularly creative? No. But it’s not “Mary Sue.”

But yes, I’d really like to see some of the other races get more involved with the story. But personally, I do think the trees were meant to create Corruptable Vessels for Mord’s magic. Ventari’s teaching actually caused the Pale Tree’s children to become immune to said corruption. This is why the Soundless and Scarlet (who turned her back on the Dream) have both fallen prey to Mord. Addtionally, it’s an awfully convenient way to explain why the PC sylvari won’t be corrupted.

in Living World

Posted by: soakman.7539

Hmm.. interesting ideas here. What I DO like is that Scarlet pretty much told us that one day we would thank her for what she had done…

Maybe Mordremoth needed to be woken up either to absorb/correct for Zhaitan’s death, or she knew that the only way to re-balance the Eternal Alchemy was if both were destroyed; she needed to make Mordremoth an immediate threat so that things didn’t have even more time to become jarringly off-kilter.

Now that I reread your original post, if you are looking more for build variety and interesting mechanics over just being more forgiving, mesmer probably would suit you better. Again, it is nearly as squishy as ele but has more range (less AOE except maybe shatters).

I still think you would enjoy necro as well, and I always promote that people give them a try as they are much less common than most professions (the holy trinity is warrior/guardian/mesmer). And as I said, they are much more forgiving as well.

Minion AI is bad mostly because they aggro whatever they want whenever they want, and they are just too fragile for difficult mobs (particularly dungeons here). The elite minion Flesh Golem is resilient, but you don’t want to trait an entire build for minions if you’re only going to use one.

Still necros are better and more fun than people give them credit for. They are also more versatile than people give them credit for.

Lastly, guardian have great aoe. But you’ll want to stick to melee cleaves over trying to AOE with “ranged” weapons. Their range weapons are very very poor (and you’ll probably have to carry a scepter on you at all times just to have access to SOME range for pulls etc, but it is not really an ideal weapon).

Deciding on a Second Profession

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: soakman.7539

soakman.7539

I say Necro. Other than guardian, it’s the most forgiving. Mesmers are very squishy (though have access to invulnerability & stealth, on a few skills) and so are thieves. I honestly dislike thieves in almost every aspect of the game other than dungeons and PvP/WvW. So if that’s your cup of tea, maybe a thief.

Necros, however, are very build dependent. There are a lot of niche builds out there for PvP, a couple for PvE, and DeathShroud is both fun and a life-saver when caught in a sticky situation.

Now, I personally would avoid minions, but it’s another build to try to master. It has seen a lot of play in PvP lately.

Guardians are boring. Excellent, but boring. If you don’t think you would like a warrior, you probably wouldn’t like a guard. The only difference is guards trade banners for utility like Aegis and Reflect.

Priority:
1. Necro
2. Mesmer
3 & 4. Guardian/Thief (depending on what game modes you like)

Okay, I have a lesbian family member I love dearly, and many homosexual friends. But that doesn’t mean I agree with their lifestyles. You CAN love and get along with people without agreeing on everything. I know people are going to yell “homophobic” or “closed-minded”, but frankly the people who yell that are ones who are not demonstrating tolerance for other people’s belief systems. Just because I don’t agree with the lifestyle doesn’t make me homophobic (afraid of gays? Really?), and it doesn’t mean I hate or shun people. So stop calling people “homophobic” as an argument instead of having a real discussion. (Similar to a grade school kid calling another “stupid” because they can’t come up with a legitimate point.)

That being said: I would rather see A-Net leave out the romance, or keep it more implied, as they did with Caithe. As least give those of us who don’t want to see digital smooches (lesbian or otherwise) the option to skip the cinematic.

I don’t really think your first paragraph is necessary. And you’ll find a good deal of people will be more responsive if you don’t preface everything with “I’m not homophobic, but…”

I agree with your second statement. As to the first, feel free to message me if you’d like to continue with that train of thought. There is a place for that discussion, but it’s not here.

Ok, so I get that the question here is about the majority being able to relate to the characters. And I’m going to put aside any question of whether anyone is homophobic or not.

As a gay man (and a gay gamer), I have played many many games with hetero protagonists and enjoyed them. Most of these games show no nod whatsoever to other colors of the rainbow, so to speak. But I still enjoyed them for their gameplay, story, and other factors. This could also be said about 99.9% of the movies, television series, novels, and other forms of entertainment on the planet. And because of this, I do greatly empathize with your inability to find “someone like you” in the main cast of the story.

That being said, there is nobody like me in the main cast of GW2 either.

But I haven’t had the desire to suggest to ANET that they’re doing it wrong. Because I see the current relationships in the game as a compromise for their fanbase. As many people have pointed out, the majority of gamers ARE male. That being said, wouldn’t it stand to reason that if there was an “agenda” or an attempt to “represent” their consumers in the game, the GLBT representations here would be of Male/Male relationships? Instead, we have Caithe/Faolain and Marjoyr/Kasmeer.

If this is an attempt by marketing (or writing) to an audience, it is a compromise that we should be okay with. There are GLBT characters and there are more palatable Female/Female relationships (because as noted by many men here, they are uncomfortable with two men being physical).

I personally, from a story perspective, prefer to have less Romances and more Comraderie. And from a personal perspective would LOVE to see Bro-ham hook up with Wjerd or somesuch. And I would prefer NOT to see a gay relationship with a butch/girly, top/bottom, sylvari/sylvari couple… because it is expected and unimaginative writing.

But you know what? I don’t think that Marjory/Kasmeer rule out the potential of any of those happening in the future. And there’s also no saying that Marjory, Kasmeer, Logan, Caithe, Braham, Rox… anyone for that matter is a 1 or a 6 on the Kinsey scale.

Kasmeer could die and Marjory could find comfort in Lord Faren for instance… or Braham could realize that Ottilia, while a loss, might not trip his trigger like another fellow Norn could.

I don’t see what Marjory/Kasmeer OR Caithe/Faolain have to do with other romances at all. And I don’t see them as an agenda either. If anything, ANET is building stepping stones toward a community that is more open to compromise.

And who knows what sort of mischief the Tengu will bring… :P

Romance Repetition

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Heterosexuality may be mainstream and the norm in real life but who knows what sexuality is like in Tyria? Everybody could be aggressively bisexual so having a lot of homosexual relationships wouldn’t really be seen as uncommon.

->This.

Especially since Kryta is mostly based on Mediterranean countries, which were traditionally quite lax on the whole homosexuality thing.

I’m fine with LGBT romances myself – I loved the Caithe/Faolain storyline, personally. KasJory was a bit more forced and kinda felt like fanservice/affirmative action to me, but was still fairly interesting. BUT I’d like some traditional romance too… It’d be nice for a change.

That, and I asked my 4 year old sister (who is generally watching me play GW2) to look away when Kas and Jory were kissing… does that make me homophobic?

would you have asked her to look away if it was a male x female?
And if not…why did you ask her to look away at this scene?

I thought she was too young for that kind of stuff. She could ask questions about why they are kissing and that would be embarassing for me to explain. Same for my parents if they got to know, we’re, you know… Russian (okay we’re also Asians and do not oppose the LGBT community but still).

She even asked me if Marjory was a boy when Kasmeer hugged her!

But , not to young to see a male&female kiss?
Thats what I was asking.

If you think it’s ok to see that, and she asks questions about lesbians, just say that they love eachother the same way mom & dad does.

Thats if it would even occur to her that it’s something odd, kids aren’t prejudiced till we teach them to be.

I wanted to add my 2 cents here as well. Telling a child to look away from something is teaching that child that it is wrong, something to be ashamed of, or inappropriate for their age. You need to send a clear message if you do this, and it doesn’t sound much like you know how you feel or what you think about this issue.

It SOUNDS like you have an aversion or fear of displays of homosexuality and don’t want to discuss it. This is pretty much the definition of homophobia.

However, if you did it because you don’t think it’s appropriate for a child to see physical love in general, that’s something else entirely. But I sort of think that if this child sees their mother and father kiss, she gets it. You don’t have to shelter her, and in my opinion you shouldn’t. It is just reinforcing an association that gay couples are something to hide.

Sorry if this tangent is off-topic. I’m posting a 2nd post in response to the original topic creator.

Transferring soulbound back items?

Just so you guys know, I tried the transmute to white/soulbind to other character/transmutation splitter idea and it did not work. I got back the original item/skin with the stats of a rare instead of the ascended stats.

Just posting to save everyone else the trouble of trying this.

I firmly believe ArenaNet has stretched their resources so thin trying to maintain the bi-monthly release schedule for the Living Story that they don’t have the resources to work on things like new races. I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you.

Completely false. Anet’s LS team is very small compared to the rest of the company. Many other teams are focused on balancing, marketing, and even larger more pronounced projects for the game. They are the ones who have the potential to add new professions, races, areas etc. and it’s been a year and a half since they’ve released anything. So believe it or not the company isn’t spreading it’s resources thin at all, it’s your pop that makes it look kitten. LS is what sets up the lore and explanation for the larger updates to come up.

All these mythical employees… yet in 18 months they have yet to actually release anything…

I’m pretty sure if they had all these mythical “big” projects and “huge” balance teams they would have done SOMETHING by now…

the LS teams are it. If 18 months isn’t enough to prove this to you then I don’t know what to tell you. If there are some other teams that it takes them more than 18 months to add a single feature then they really aren’t worth having anyway imo.

They’ve added a ton of stuff. And how long do you think it takes to create a video game expansion? This is a nonsense post. Have fun with your tinfoil hat and your theories about how this company wants to NOT make money.

New classes?

Races will likely be added at some point. Classes are less likely. But skills and even new weapons for existing classes seem likely down the road (maybe not that far off if you don’t mind me making unsupported theories).

Thank you Anet...

Unfortunately I have to agree with you. While I’m not 100% sure, I definity feel like Anet doesn’t have the time to sit down and flesh out the Tengu as fully playable with armor and animations and everything, while also developing a personal story line that fits within the rest of the game. They could do all that, but not when they are busy with the bi-weekly Living World updates.

If Anet is reading this, please know that I would be totally fine with you guys taking a few months off to develop Tengu as a playable race with their own story. If budget is the concern, I would even be willing to pay for the Tengu in the gem store if it was well done.

I don’t think you realize that the LS teams are almost 100% NOT the same teams that would be working on “expansion style” content like new races/professions/skills/quality-of-life-issues/new DE’s or whatever form the next “expansion” is going to take on.

The LS teams are only a small set of teams that are churning out content to keep players invested while they develop other content for release down the road. Also, they were already developing Tengu as a playable race prior to the original release. I’m sure there have been many many iterations of them since then, but IF they are going to make Tengu playable, they are almost guaranteed to be in a fairly solid state of development.

Even content that releases at the same time as LS content isn’t necessarily created by the LS teams as far as I know. For instance, I doubt the LS team for the Edge of the Mist update was solely responsible for the Edge of Mist map. If anything, that LS team probably worked on the story/dialogue instances, the fetch quest idea to get Taimi her parts back, and probably little else. I have a feeling they may be sharing a bit of the burden with the Scarlet’s finale LS team.

Marrionette Morale Feedback

I understand frustration in games is NOT fun.

That being said, I’m on Yak’s Bend (not particularly known for being a heavily populated server), and I have done marionette 5 times so far. Out of those 5 times, we won 4 of them. In addition, it was not a “guild run” TS organized level of play.

Yes, we had some commanders step up (even on the 1-2 attempts in overflows), and there was cross-map chatter about what each lane should do/not do.

To me, this promotes community synergy and the difficulty, in my experience, is really just about perfect. If everyone is not doing their part, you will have issues. But that being said, switch lanes if you have to if one has less people and your portal sickness has worn off.

And no, you do not have to win to do any part of the living story. So I don’t think it needs toned down.

Just my 2 cents.

I’m so sick of the term “Mary Sue.” Labels like this really force people to ignore the details of a character and write them off as having no character.

Sure, she’s not a deep or even really that complex of a character, but at least she’s funny. At least she has character. I’m glad they gave us some details about her past at all, even if she is an unprecedented genius.

There are many characters in this game (and many more outside of it) that don’t even have a history. They are simply introduced to the story as a mechanic to keep the story moving and that’s it.

I’m not saying she couldn’t be MORE interesting, but I feel like this label is erasing what little we DO know about Scarlet because people who haven’t even tried to find out for themselves are just assuming it’s useless to experience/read up on her because they already “know” everything about her.

“Why do you think diablo 3 failed as hard as it did? (there are many reasons) but the biggest one is because it was challenging and yet it didn’t reward its players. "

I stopped here. Diablo III was not challenging until you beat the game twice. That’s why it failed for me. I see no point “grinding” for shiny loot if I know I’m going to get bored and drop the game. Heck, I couldn’t even play through with a different class. It was literally just an auto-attack clickfest…for the entire game. And then they asked you to do it two more times before it was hard.

Can I just say that if this was framed as a “revamp” like the Tequatl battle, instead of advertised as a “new path,” nobody would be complaining.

They would be like, “Oh, they’re making it harder and better. Ok.”

I don’t hear anyone asking why Old Tequatl had to be removed to make room for the new Tequatl…

The answer is pretty obvious. And additionally, if they left everything they will ever create for this game in the game at the same time… It’s going to get very very difficult to find groups to do content. It’s already hard enough to find groups to do story mode.

I don’t understand. Why is it so hard to accept that not everyone will have everything? It’s not like the developer’s threw some random numbers down into the game and said “Gee. That seems about right.” They know how long it will take you to reach upper ranks through normal play. It is supposed to. It’s supposed to be a distinguished and impressive rank; not everyone is going to be able to reach it.

And yes, I know you guys doing this are “high-ranked PVP hardcores” but you still want something to work toward while playing, yes? I would.

Strange as it may seem, I find champ farming in frostgorge a lot of fun. Might have something to do with the scenery. When I just wanna kick back and relax, I join the zerg train for an hour or so. Very soothing, with lots of banter and jokes. And I get rich too!

This is how all the activities in GW2 should be : “It’s fun, and I get to make money too!”

Then people can do w/e they want and there is no “farming”.

In theory, this is true. However, as long as something is faster (at ALL) in regards to making profit, a certain set of extrinsic-reward-oriented people will clump there and do only that.

Unless you’re farming for a legendary, you can do quite almost anything in this game and over time you will find yourself really not in need of much of anything.

I don’t understand all this talk of “grinding.” There is really no content that you are gated from besides dungeons on your way to 80 and high-end Fractals because of AR.

Personally, my favorite thing to do is to identify who each of my alts is as a character and build either builds or mix-and-match looks to meet those imaginings.

This hardly ever involves farming per se, as many pieces are quite easy to get. But if you want exotic stats or better, then you might have to do a bit of farming I suppose.

Either way, I find the end result (a goal I set for myself) incredibly rewarding. And sometimes, the looks themselves are commented on by other players. Not often, but every once in a while which reminds you that you have accomplished something that is appreciated but not connected to the “meta.”

But I really don’t get bored of dungeons, but I swap places and paths often. And I almost always PuG them. It’s more fun for me that way (dunno, guess I’m an odd bird?).

Another kick in the teeth for us engis..

Obviously! Since Engi’s are not at ALL viable in the game anywhere, have no versatility, and clearly everyone has access to free ascended stats since they came out yesterday.

All engi’s CLEARLY need to have ascended stats today to keep up and not get steamrolled by all those WVWVW’rs running around with their crazy pink weapons. Or, you know, those crazy PVE minions that have always secretly been ascended to begin with.

… really? If there ever is a point where the majority of players have access to this stuff, this will need to be changed… but how on earth can anyone be complaining about not having max gear the day after the tier hits the game.

These forums are insane.
