Des have always had an overinflated view of their ability -nt as bad as BT mind you. They were truly awful.

It is well established that there are no depths to which Viz won’t sink in their campaign to try and appear to be a competant T1 server.
It became obvious when SFR hit T1 that Viz were not anywhere near as good as they like to believe.
And yet the most easy and overpowered in wvwvw – I wouldn’t expect much in the way of buffs anytime soon.
2 idiotic strawman arguments.
Stealth needs toning down massively – its virtually permanent and any thief with more than 2 fingers and half a brain can avoid taking any fire indefinitely. Once out of stealth you should not be able to restealth BY ANY MEANS for a minimum of 10s.
Then the revealed debuff should give at least 15%-33% Damage Reduction to compensate, and regeneration from stealing needs to be 15 seconds, not 5 seconds.
Thieves should also recieve more damage from traits to compensate as well, since our burst damage will be lower, traits that increase dagger damage should be increased by 10%, there should be a new trait that gives sword damage 10%, and another trait which gives all main hand weapons a 15% critical chance, much like warrior and guardian.
Thrill of the Crime should be raised to a 25 second buff, not a 10 second, to match other buffs of other classes. This gives thieves valuable group buffage.
Thieves should also get more access to “fury” (20% critical chance.) to compensate as well, like other classes.
No it shouldn’t – the point is the thief burst is too high, stealth is too strong and the thief has too many tools that are too effective. It should gain nothing and be reduced down to normal levels.
If you played a thief, you would know that nerfing stealth and nerfing burst is the same thing, less stealth and access to stealth would be less burst, way less burst.
Steal at 4-6k? CnD at 4-6k? heartseeker at 4-6k?
All need the damage reducing significantly.
Sick to death of imbalanced thieves ruining the game.
Severelyy overpowered – either bam you die in 2s before the thief can even be seen (and don’t give me any crap about toughness – that buys you an extra second – woohoo), or the current vogue for non stop stealth – visible for 2s, invisible for 5, visible for 2 and repeat indefinitely. And if the thief looks like dying – oh he just walks away. And if that gets boring why not go spinning through groups of players downing 5 plus then going invisible.
Its the no skill, no risk, no difficulty class.

(a) With viz its a conscious exploit – you can watch them do it. Charge in invisibomb, pull out to beyond render range and repeat.
(b) Viz is sulking somewhat this week – most of their blob is away as they don’t like losing. Either that or mamon has made pierre go to bed and do his homework for a change.
tl;dr: Thieves are in no way OP. They are EXTREMELY annoying, I will agree. But if you learn how to actually combat them, they aren’t as extreme of an issue

Idd – SFR came up to T1 expecting to struggle based on the tales we’d heard. In reality Viz are not that good, and nowhere near as good as they like to think they are. ER are more skilled but tactically quite clueless.
Be interesting to see who comes back up. Desolation are competant but suffer from revolving door guilds. They’re no real threat though. BT were never any good – like Viz was all down to offpeak pvdoor teams. I suspect arbor’ll be back and Viz will add double teaming to their arsenal once again.

Spam ground targetted AoE on self (Usually thieves like to sit right next to you when they are stealthed)
Spam Melee weapon skills only in case of daggerstorm.
AoE heals help, Aegis helps. Anticipation of the backstab and dodge rolling away from it helps.
Thieves are not OP. Its just only few people know how to kill them.
I swear most of the time players scream at their monitor saying “whats going on?” instead of taking a chill pill and actually pay attention. You should know what the thief can do , and know that continuous dps destroys a thief. Don’t waste time sitting there throwing up boons. Just lay down your ground target aoe and watch him run away.
The only thief that can get away from this is a pistol/pistol thief that uses unload. Most WvW thieves are Shortbow with D/D.
Also players, don’t stare at your skill bar while in combat. This is PvP action combat, not turn based.
So what you’re saying is to beat 1 thief you need half a dozen people, immobile, spamming aoe and heals in the hope of beating 1 perma invisible godmode thief.
Not to make it too simple for you but do you not see the glaring imbalance there?

Every class can burst as hard or harder as GC thief does. Yes im a thief and no im not a GC thief and never will play one, but im still defending it. Im running with 21.5 k hp in www and engineer managed to burst me down to 2 k hp or so in 2 seconds, no stealth required. No thief managed to do that on me yet. So iIsay … NURF engineers too, couse they can burst. But w8 a seconds … I have witnessed glass warrior doing same on me in mass pvp when i simply didnt see him comming, mesmer too and a ranger ( yes a ranger, class so broken it does no damage at all ( well apparently it does) ). Well just nurf them all then. I bet most of ppl crying about geting 1 shot by thieves dont even have single piece of exotics on them and go full glass cannon, couse doing damage ( which they dont do couse the ydont have the good enough gear) is cool

This week is funny new Seafarers random that I don’t know seems to play really weaks and being victim of BT players who I used to kill them 100 % when I was on guild with just 3 or 4 man, those guys was on riverside sitting on camp or sitting on certain traps. Now to boot those people are around 15 and can’t do anything except for dead unless I come for help and interupt their tactic.

And that might work if it werent for the fact that the thief then disappears at will.

If the only counter to a thief is another thief, why do plenty of non-thief players keep posting about defeating thieves with ease? And in the scenario that you present, are you doing nothing to counter the thief? no attacks? knockdowns? invulns… anything beyond dodging?
Those would be thief players with alts running the ‘dont nerf my godmode class’ defence.
Thieves are gamebreaking. Its mind boggling that 1000s of posts of complaints exist about thieves (nothing anywhere close about any other class) and yet ANET are making a critically bad mistake in not properly addressing it.

So I’m heading back to SM from Klovan and come across a thief behind our lines jumping a mesmer. There’s an elementalist just behind me. We pitch in with our guy.
Over 45 seconds of fight the thief restealths SEVEN times, and each time he reappears he’s back at full health. We get a few seconds of target time but then no off he pops again and reappears at full health. After 45 seconds he decides he’s not getting a kill this time and vanishes off freely into the distance.

99% of thief players are the average to poor playing an overpowered class and thinking they’re good.
Only issue I have is the Over Powered backstab. My p/d thief has just over 20k hp, and was downed in under 2 seconds. Not my idea of a fight. Stealth is fine and doesnt need to be touched. Just need the backstab build needs to be looked at and balancing.

I haven’t watched thieves (solo) multiple times this morning jump into groups, burst one person down, vanish and stomp whilst we’re aoeing and rezzing. noooo that never happens.

I took a look at des and BT back in the one day transfer days. DEs seemed OK but BT were really quite poor back then – despite moving up the ladder and winning on points they seemed to spend most of their time losing engagements and winning purely from off peak coverage.
I had assumed they’d improved on reaching T1.
Now I’m not so sure……
