Zerg – A dismissive term for a group of players that outnumbers their opponents. The actual size of the group is irrelevant, as the term is used to deride a perceived lack of skill rather than accurately describe numbers.
In other words, “Zerging” doesn’t mean people are in large groups. It means people are reliant on being in large groups because they are bad. It’s an insult, not a unit of measurement.
For a shorter defenition just write ‘see vizunah square’ because thats pretty much bang on.
100-150 man blobs dleiberately bunched up to cause the most lag. They used to deliberately cultivate culling bombs – now its lag bombs. And the reliance on large groups because they’re bad – spot on.
Yes – its turned an OK game into an kitten achingly awful one.
Amidst all the kitten waving and 150 man vizblobs lets remember the important thing here.

Gate1 goes down quick – by time gate two is reached there a dozen or so people on siege making life difficult. With losses (all golems) gate 2 goes down. by now 20 or so people are manning siege and side A is losing people. Siege takes out enough people to make attempt non viable and its eventually beaten back. All in all this takes about 15 minutes and side A has a 2:1 numerical advantage but side Bs defense wins.
Example 2 – midnight last night
Side A has a 100+ blob. It rushes the keep – door 1 goes down in seconds even without siege on it. It arrives at door 2 where 30-40 defenders have arrived to try and delay and hold them back. Siege is manned. Door 2 goes down in < minute (nom golems just rams). 100+ people swamp lord and he drops in seconds. Siege has minimal effect. Lag delay is crippling. Melee blob mash 1 button and win.
Defence is no longer an option. Offence is far stronger and balance is way out of line. it should take time to siege a defensive structure, but no now its line up a massive melee blob and mash 1 button.
Defensive structures need to be defensible.
Not sure I understand what you’re trying to say. Those are 2 different cases that I cannot see anything relevant to the patch.
By the way, in your case 2, there HAS to be a golem/siege. DPSing the gate won’t take less than a minute even with 100 people.
Prepatch a 2:1 advantage was defensible inside a defensive structure with siege.
Postpatch a 2:1 advantage is not defensible inside a defensive structure with siege.
Everything drops too fast with a 100 man melee mash 1 button mob.
Defensive structures need to be stronger, wxp reward less with increased numbers and – radical suggestion here – all ‘1’ auto atacks should hit 1 target only to reduce the impact of the ‘charge and mash 1’ tactic.
Its been a long time since I’ve seen an MMO patch make a game so much worse in one patch.

Personally I’ve gone from loving wvwvw and playing for hours to logging off and finding another game. Might log back in in a few weeks to see if its improved but for now its dreadful.

Why all the fuss about wxp?
Theres a handfull of abilities that range from utterly pointless to pathetic.
Zerging wasnt as much of an issue prepatch as points could be held by smaller numbers.
Now forget it. There is no counter to a 100 man blob except a bigger blob.
Right now the game design favors forming up into massive melee blobs (T1 EU we’re seeing 100-150 man french blobs) and run at things mashing 1. Ability lag is so awful that any defense doesnt work and siege is ineffective. lost a fully upgraded homeland keep in <2min that way – then you take your blob and chain roll round every keep. The bigger the blob, the worse the ability lag of your opponent.

You may well be able to see the 100 man blob, but you sure as hell cant do anything about it as the ability lag is so severe it makes siege nigh on useless. defence is no longer possible, leaving chain rolling zones with max sized blobs the way to play now.

Ability lag is so bad its beyond a joke, the wvw progression is worse than kitten and little to no attention has been paid to class balance.
This may well be the last straw for a lot of serious wvw guilds.

The supervisor at the supply camp retained the effect of his unkillable buff for 30 seconds after the timer hit zero.

1. Yes we can see everyone now, but the ability lag is so horrific its now unplayable – save for stacking 150 vizunians in SM in one blob and running through everything mashing 1 (melee only – screw you if you’re ranged)
2. The much vaunted wvw xp system/progression – that was the best you could do? Really? Its so underwhelming you might have well not bothered. I can’t say I’m planning to look at it more than once a fortnight.
3. And still the weakest classes remain pooped on from a great height whilst those that were overpowereed 3-6 months ago are still fricken overpowered. The disjoint between players and developers seems ever wider and increasing daily.

Seriously why would any wvw orientated guilds from the EU upper tiers want to play on a second rate ladder (US) with extra lag and fight mainly doors (Ok with the exception of Viznuh)? We’re interested in competitive hard fighting, not offpeak undefended doors and points (OK with the exception of Viznuh).
As with all the other US servers who think merely by asking the EU will flock to you: its not going to happen.
However if you are interested in playing on properly competitive servers you are welcome to come to the EU.
There is a world of difference between fighting Viz and Deso.
With Des you know you’ve been in a fight. With Viz all of a sudden theres just a lot of bags around your feet.
I propose a new T0 tier. Just one server in it – Viz – where they have no opponents and can show off their leet door fighting skills 24/7.
Then the rest of us can get on fighting as intended.
Still hasn’t grasped that NA servers – of whatever tier – are not an attractive option for EU players.

Point is noone from an EU server is going to want to come – they have better servers now and better server options. And those who don’t speak English have french and German language servers.

But the rating system will match you against comparable servers – they may be larger but its based on your performance not theirs who you get matched with.
Really don’t get why this is an issue.
You’re a less populated server – is that it? Then your rating will settle and youll be matched with servers of a similar rating. Each battleground has the same population cap regardless of your overall server population.
So what is it you want? ANET to magically find you more people – no thats up to you and your server. You want ANET to adjust the ruleset so you can win vs larger numbers? not going to happen.

It is about time thieves were nerfed hard.
On one hand that’s a shame as Piken make T2 interesting – without them its someone like Kodash who are far from T2 quality and Jade Sea who melt faster than butter in a blast furnace.
When you have a class thats overpowered as hell and so easy to play a 5 year old could do it then you have a problem.
Thieves need significant downward adjustment. I know it. You know it. 95% of the playerbase knows it. Talk to thieves ingame (not the half dozen last ditch godmode forum defenders here) and they’ll openly laugh about how overpowered the thief is.
So whats the problem ANET? Most thief players have been expecting to be nerfed down to normal for months and think its hilarious you haven’t done it yet?
Thieves are far from fine.
Its facepalmingly bemusing why ANET haven’t dealt with them yet – a 5 year old could tell you that:
- near permanent untargetable invisibility plus
- insane burst damage (5-6k steal, 5-6k cnd, 6-14k backstab) all in < 2s from invisibility plus
- as many get out jail free cards as you like plus
- crazy kitten mobility (bouncy bouncy heartseeker spam for 6k crits)
Its too much. Far too much.
Dunno why people are onsessed with martial arts as some ideal – tests have shown that a boxing punch hits harder than a martial arts one….

You want small scale – go play s(illy)pvp. I bought this game for one reason and one reason only – large scale battles. And since the culling change (which incidentally is much much much better for me) we’ve had them non stop – massive 3 way fights lasting 5, 10, 15 minutes.

So this having no experience of rvr eh? Most of the opponenets I’m fighting in largescale wvwvw I’ve fought before in 3 or 4 mmos previously.
RvR done right = DAOC large scale. RvR done wrong = WOW, especially arenas.
WvWvW is the closest I’ve come to DAOC – it ain’t DAOC but its not bad. Now their were a small minority of idiots who thought rvr in DAOC was finding somewhere out of the way to run 8v8 teams at each other and that was fine, they amused themselves. Now the rest of us really enjoyed massive large scale fights and sieges. Warhammer tried and failed badly due to atrocious management.
Unfortunately their seem to be a minority of idiots here who think that wvwvw should revolve around their 2 or 3 or 5 man teams and squeal zerg when it doesn’t go the way they like.

Thieves are still jaw droppingly overpowered and very very easy to play – a bad combination.
They need stealth to be less of a get out of jail free card. Fewer routes in to stealth, a greater revealed time and damage breaking stealth.
Steal is a utility skill – utility skills should not do 4-5k damage. That needs reducing.
Cloak and dagger is a restealth skill – decide if that is offense or defense and adjust the damage/utility accordingly. 5-6k damage is too much in its current state.
Backstab – far too high on damage when used with the above. This needs reducing.
Heartseeker – mobility, damage and a finisher all in one spammable ability? This needs adjustment – remove the bonus damage at sub 50% and decide if its a gap closer or a damage ability and adjust accordingly – one has to go.
As we have it now we have a large population of thieves many relying on a steal/cnd/BS macro to one button down any target.
ANET wake up and listen – yes warriors have too much damage, and mesmers are a little OTT but 90% of the class complaints on your forums are about 1 class – thieves.

Key indicator for me if they’re remotely in touch with their playerbase is whether we get a proper thief nerf in wvw.

From memory SFR has obliterated Kodash every time its been matched with them. Tactical points manipulation is irrelevant (and i laughed when you used the phrase ‘Viz playing fair’ – as every server thats played them knows there is no cheat, exploit or underhand manipulation they won’t sink too). Kodash is not and never has been a T2 quality server.
Jade Sea seem to have numbers but a lot to learn – I’m constantly having to empty my bags kitten

Des have always had an overinflated view of their ability -nt as bad as BT mind you. They were truly awful.
