Mesmers and Thieves are difficult to face 1v1 because that is where they are most capable. This can be made a lot harder with the Guardians lack the mobility of other classes. However I don’t find fighting these classes any harder than any of the others since at the end of the day it is down to the skill and what build people are facing each other with. I run a high mobility build to keep up with the more speedy classes but I lose some defence due to this so I am more vulnerable to glass cannons.
There will never be a build to beat all and if there was it’d feel the wrath of the nerf hammer pretty quickly because no one likes a ‘easy mode, kill everything in 1 hit and be un-killable class/setup’

My current stats:
Power: 2000~
Precision: 1900~
Toughness: 1700~
Vitality: 1400~
Crit chance: 53%
Crit damage: 82%
I can survive pretty much whatever comes at me yet deal serious sustained damage. I use Shouts with the Mace and shield to tank and support allies and the Greatsword to pound the everliving kittens out of things. I use AH and increased symbol size (and healing) to keep myself and others alive and I never have a problem with my DPS or Survivability.
Guardian has the unique ability where they can deal very good sustained damage while staying alive.

The main reason I picked white hair again was because my GW1 character also had white hair which back then wasn’t overly popular and I wanted to keep with the theme. It also suits my Guardian with his holy knight style.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
Yeah I do love the ability to stand in front of a dungeon boss and just be like “evening sir, I will be tanking you for the next 5-10 minutes while my allies pound the kitten out of you. Shall we begin?”
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
I fought a burst style thief the other day and due to me dueling a thief friend of mine often I can read what most thief’s are going to do half the time which helps a lot. I can see how some things are considered just plain crazy and OP but there will always be things like that and it’s something you need to evolve to deal with.
I killed the burst thief and he then went to whine at me that I hit him for too much damage. My reply to that is if you’re going to go for burst damage expect to receive the same back cause you will have next to no defence.

Ele’s are also able to blast people through gates and a hell of a lot of them do it as well but that’s life and we have to deal with it.
This is a thread about the things people enjoy about Guardians not bug abuse so I will ask you to return to the main subject.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
Passive you just need to trait empowering might and have a reasonable crit rate of 40% or more.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
Only a Guardian can whip out a hammer and use it as a golf club to send a mesmer flying off a cliff.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
Scepter+Focus since they both have long range capability and the focus has a nice defensive ability in slot 5. Shield has always felt more at home with a sword or mace for me.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
It’s all about your build cause I can have fun on every single class I play. Go to the mists try out some builds and see what you enjoy. I play Guardian and I know for a fact if I played Bunker I’d fall asleep so I try other builds.

Don’t forget about a wall of reflection in front of a besieged gate. Lovely to see those numbers rolling.

Kinda similar in some ways to what I run except I use the sword and shield for the teleport (mostly for escaping zergs) and the bubble (for annoying people in zergs). Basically looks like a classic AH healer specced for DPS and high HP.
Probably got Soldier runes on his armour to help him remove conditions and boost his HP some more. The rest you can get from any basic AH build.

I was fighting an Engi the other day and it was going wonderfully well as I was maintaining 14K HP through out the fight when all of a sudden I got burst for 15K in literally 1 second. Unless you have the reaction time of a god and know the exact ability animations for every burst attack start then there really isn’t much you can do frankly.

2.8K attack

Kang the Shiney not a bad name at all though I’m sure it would suit a skritt more. I’ll give it 7/10 but you get +1 if your armour is completely gold.

The amount of times I’ve sung “I’m still standing” by elton John just cause I can
Another good one is using the bubble shield or banish to launch people off cliffs.

I see a lot of complaining about many of the Guardians Skills or their lack of Anti-Kiting abilities or how people compare their burst damage to Warriors.
Therefore! I have decided to make a post where people can say the things they love about their Guardians and what makes them continue to play this great class.
I’ll start it off by saying that I am for want of a better word a DPS guardian and the thing I enjoy most is being able to leap into an enemy zerg in WvW unleash some GS aoe critting 5 people for 5K to 6K then walking out like a sir.
Anyone else have some good experiences playing as a Guard to lighten the mood and give this class some well deserved appreciation?

I can see myself getting 2 shot by a thief a lot more often if they’re going to up single target damage…Maybe its time to whip out the sword and torch and start spitting fire at people.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
You’re main options are as follows:
6 Divinity = all around stat increase for those all purpose builds.
6 Soldier = Condition removal and defence (because lets face it who likes to see there with 25 stacks of bleed?)
2 Water 2 Monk 2 Santuary = Boon duration if you have a build with lots of boons.
6 Lyssa = extra crit chance, extra random boon on heal, all boons added and all conditions removed when your elite ends (Renewed Focus for this one)
There are more but these are the most used runes that I have seen for Guardians.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
The only time I whip out a ranged weapon is when I’m being kited which really only happens to me in spvp and in all honestly I think poping retaliation and just letting them shot themselves to death is a better option.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
Depends really what you’re preferred play style is to be honest. You can either bunker down and take lots of damage while dishing out a bit of pain or you can run support and buff groups so they can kick more kitten and kill other zergs or you can run DPS like I do and just leap into zergs and go absolutely mental. If you want the DPS I can give you a decent build.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
70% of the time in a 1vs1 situation I will come out on top with my Guardian and the only 2 classes I have an issue with is Mesmers and Thieves but at the end of the day its down to skill. If someone is more skilled than me I will lose and that’s that. All the classes are fairly balanced to be honest and although a warrior can deal more burst damage than a Guardian I can deal a fair amount of damage myself and also keep my HP close to full.
Pros and cons, every class has them and you learn to play taking those into account. A guardian is not a warrior and a warrior is not a guardian therefore comparing them is something you should avoid.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
With my Build I have 65% crit rate and my symbol of wrath crits for 1K every tick which is just a bonus on top of my normal attacks so DPS wise I can’t complain either
The reason I chose Shield was for a certain combo I love to use where I knock them down with shield 5, leap to them with GS 3 and knock them down again with GS 5 and then its all about the Whirling Burst attack for a finisher (GS 2)
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
Mace+shield with GS is what I run and I don’t want to go into too much detail regarding what I run as I’m still testing but the trait that increases symbol size is extremely useful as it allows you to dodge around while remaining inside the symbol and it is also to provide extra boons (more healing to you) to all of your allies.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
Guardians just need a little bit of a revamp trait wise and skill wise since some of the traits and skills are not only useless but just down right disappointing. I don’t really have a problem with anything else regarding them.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
Staff for support is pretty good. Staff for solo play or in-combat situations where you are fighting people who clearly want you dead is not so good. Standing still for 3 seconds for a 2K heal (if you are alone and without AH) while in the heat of battle can leave you open to one hell of a kicking. It’s all about the circumstances you use it in and how you use it. However it could use a couple of tweaks here and there but so could a lot of things so lets see how updates in future pan out.
