To make the most of Staff Symbol wait until your swiftness has run out before activating it again.
Tanshiniza has it right. Pop Symbol of Swiftness and after you leave the symbol, then use SY! and Retreat!. This will grant you 38+ seconds of swiftness.
But this counters what Tanshiniza said in that these two shouts don’t stack, they only add 1 second.
When did I say anything about shouts? quote the part please because I’ve looked through myself and I’ve only talked about Symbol of Swiftness.

If you already have Swiftness then the symbol will just add 1 second per tick onto the duration.
That’s not what the tooltip says.
Tooltip says a lot of things doesn’t mean it’s right which is why Anet are always fixing tooltip bugs.
I am telling you what it does from experience as in playing a Guardian for 1000+ hours

Nothing? Kinda expected it to go this way and it makes me laugh cause I work in the support profession and if I left something screwed up for this long I would have been fired already.

Make a Warrior. Even the most dedicated Guardian players are leaving to make Warriors or simply play another Game and as of yet Anet hasn’t clocked onto how displeased the entire community of Guardians is with what they keep doing to our class. All we’ve got on our side is the Support/healing stereotype and tbh if you play anything else you might as well make another class. However I just watched a shout Warrior coming pretty close to the amount of healing and condition removal I could do so it’s only a matter of time really.
All I feel I am now is a walking stability Vendor.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
Thanks for the replies guys and I hope Anet does pick this up and I’d like to be able to whisper him to ask where he is or not have to mail him locations for guild missions etc. It’s getting rather silly now.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
Yes they are and I said that in the opening comment. I wish it was something that simple ^^ poor guys had it like this for months and we have tried everything we can from the side of an end user. Really needs Anet to look into this.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
Hello Anet!
A friend of mine has had an issue with his chat for months where he can’t see any chat other than ‘Say’ and he has logged tickets for this and they were just closed with nothing done about it so we have had to resort to using the mail system to talk to each other. He has all the chats ticked on the chat filter so it’s no something as stupid as that. I’m just wondering why he hasn’t had any response from yourselves regarding this because it seems a little out of order
So what is your answer to this?
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
We pale in comparison to every class unless it’s group support. We rock at group support however not everyone wants to play group support so they are stuck with being lackluster unless they swap class which should not be the case at all.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
I think Akamon may have just won the Internet. Guess we can close up shop and say that we did good.

Good luck with the stand your ground change. I come from a perspective of a spvp only player and to me that is like the total linch pin ability of the class in spvp and yet you have people that want nerf it already so getting a 2 second increase on it I just dont see it. Don’t see the Hallowed Ground duration change either people will cry about all that stability on a shortish cooldown. Don’t get me wrong I like what you propose for the most part. Hallowed Ground even with its enhancement is still not quite good enough to think about taking. Retreat has almost always struck me as too long as cooldown as well at least in spvp. In spvp you are generally not going to give more then 3 people Aegis since most fights 3v3 or less and 3people speed on a longish cooldown for those benefits.
I think Stand Your Ground is the one I am least interested in changing but I was just looking at it from the perspective of having no boon duration increase.
Hallowed Ground can only be improved if you take it down from an 80 second cool down in my opinion. You just have to wait far too long for it to recharge to make it remotely useful.
The Retreat change I think is the fairest out of the lot I’ve suggested. I think a 20 second sprint and aegis for a 32 second cooldown traited is fair for a skill that’s really just a 1 attack block and mobility. It would help us chase down other classes and clear up a bit of this “we lack sprint business.”
I come from an Spvp and WvW background so I’m trying to incorporate this into both. I’m trying to make it so shouts are more applicable on burst builds which have no Boon duration to speak of since at the moment it’s meditations or nothing and to make shouts truly useful you have to invest in that boon duration unfortunately.

I don’t know how many times I’ve posted this around but the fix for 90% of our problems is sorting out this condition meta.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
Glad we came to an understanding! and the final decision of the day Precision is better that Crit Damage
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
I don’t really want to think about how many times a thread like this has cropped up but I’ve decided to give my own ideas on some improvements that could make things a little better for us without going so far that we end up with a super buff rivalling Warriors because to be honest we don’t need that much.
I am aiming for quality not quantity on this one and I am sticking to just Meditation, Shout and Consecration utilities so there won’t be much but it should be fair and an understandable boost.
Utilities:
- Meditations:
- Contemplation of Purity: Reduce the base cool down to 50 seconds and 40 seconds when traited.
- Merciful Intervention: Allow for teleporting to an ally you’ve targetted with random teleporting if no target selected. Gives invulnerability for 1 second to yourself and your ally and healing stays the same.
- Shouts:
- Stand your ground: Base Stability increase from 5 sec to 7 sec.
- Hold the line: Increase Base Protection from 4 sec to 7 sec and Regen from 6 sec to 7 sec.
- Retreat: Reduce the cool down of the skill to 40 seconds with 32 seconds traited.
- Consecrations:
- Hallowed Ground: Reduce cool down to 60 seconds with 48 seconds traited. Remove 20% extra boon duration and randomly give either Regen, Protection Retaliation every 2nd or 3rd pulse. Regen and Protection have 1 second duration. (debating the last bit as being a bit much but we’ll see what you all think)
- Sanctuary: Change cool down to 80 seconds base and 64 seconds traited. Explodes at the end of it’s duration providing a heal of 2k for those in 180 Radius of the bubble on top of the Regen while inside. Fix that some AoE skills still hit through the bubble.
That’s all folks I believe the ones I have left out do a pretty good job as is or I just can’t think of a way to improve upon them without making them come across as a bit overpowering. I’d like to hear feedback from the Guardian community on these changes and if anyone has any of their own ideas they’d be greatly appreciated.
I don’t know how much notice Anet takes of these kinds of posts but you’ve gotta try or you won’t succeed.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
Precision has a larger impact on dps (budget wise) than crit damage and if he aint going for a high burst build or high dps build (nothing in OP suggests that imo) crit damage should be considerably lower than your rule of thumb.
Precision has the Greater Impact on DPS and you still seem to think I’m going on about Crit Damage being better for some odd reason.
If you have any critical damage make sure you have the appropriate critical chance to make sure you actually Crit and use this extra damage multiplier. Precision is better for providing good reliable damage and yes Crit Damage is only really good for Burst builds.
I am simply using the first Build the OP posted about where Crit damage is 75% ~ and Crit Rate is 30% ~ which is 2% Crit Damage for 1% Crit Rate. He will naturally have more Crit Damage than Crit Chance as he has gone 30 in Valour which provides 30% straight off the bat hence the 2:1 comparison. I’d rather have 50% Crit Damage and 50% Crit rate with more toughness and HP etc stacked up any day of the week other a higher Crit damage unless I am using a burst build.
We are agreeing with each other but you seem to think I am still telling people to invest in Crit damage instead I am actually say “Please for the love of god Invest in precision to make the most of what you have!”
I am now done and will let this thread run it’s course and please in future attempt to understand where someone is coming from before coming up with a way to attempt to tear them apart.
Sorry i thought this link was commonly known, my bad, in these forums. Its been up for discussion in a lot of threads.

This kind of thing is indirectly insulting and you’ve been doing a lot of that in your posts against me. I’m sorry if I didn’t word myself correctly in my own posts when I tried to get my point across but there isn’t any reason to be an kitten about it.

I liken this patch to a blind date where your friend told you she was a total babe but you arrive and she is just average. You’re not too bothered but you still feel let down and then you realise all your other friends are dating these really hot girls and feel like you’ve been sold short just because you aren’t the favourite.
Kinda explains my feelings towards this patch and in all honesty they can stick the fury and other changes where the sun don’t shine and just fix the condition Meta.
(were there any other noticeable changes? I don’t know I haven’t used consecrations for so long I kinda forgot they existed…maybe because they’re useless?)
You should not be able to bunker, deal high damage and apply multiple disabling effects while sipping on a Martini and telling your future model about this one time you flew a space shuttle to the moon. It’s just not good end of story.

2) There is nothing more elegant than playing a game of Golf with a Hammer and an unsuspecting Asura.
I like you!
I like you to so I’m going to do my best to produce an interesting picture of myself in WvW doing something interesting like finishing someone as a dolyak or downing 5 people with my burst
It begins…..

6) I will not be rolling a Warrior but instead I shall go to WvW tonight as my Guardian and take out my frustration on every other class until I am satisfied or Anet do something that I can be proud of though something tells me I’m more likely to kill the entire Server 300 times over before the later happens.
If you are successful it will only lead to more ner…I mean improvements.
If I’m successful after this update I might as well solve the meaning of life while I’m at it and discover a way to create the ‘Perfect omelet’ at the same time.

You would probably have more success if you instead target the harmless woodland “white NPC” creatures such as owls, bunny rabbits, and other said creatures. Of course, P.E.T.A will complain to Arena Net. And, well, you know what happens next.
Happy hunting all!
Not sure what is on the agenda tonight. I’ve been thinking about trying out a burning build just for giggles. If that doesn’t seem to work then I’ll be roaming the blood lust section playing the height game of…punting people off high ledges with hammer/banish or sword/shield…

1) So…all my meditations are instant cast and I got 3 seconds of fury on meditation casting. I guess that means my initial burst does more damage but that’s about all.
2) The utilities they updated are still pointless either due to the cooldown being too long or the skill just simply being a pile of kitten.
3)They updated the tool tips to tell me in more detail how useless or not useless all my skills are.
4) They lied about sorting out our support skills that weren’t really used very often cause looking at the very…very…very minor changes they made to them I still won’t be using them cause they’re still bloody awful.
5) They fixed Pure of Voice which is a nerf as far as I’m concerned because it was pretty much the only way a shout build could keep up with the condition Meta with any level of success.
6) I will not be rolling a Warrior but instead I shall go to WvW tonight as my Guardian and take out my frustration on every other class until I am satisfied or Anet do something that I can be proud of though something tells me I’m more likely to kill the entire Server 300 times over before the later happens.

“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
I still don’t see myself taking anything but shouts and meditations and maybe wall of reflection for a giggle here and there shrug
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
A good rule of thumb I tend to go by is that for every 2-3% Crit damage I tend to make sure I have 1% Crit rate otherwise you aren’t utilising that Crit damage to it’s full potential. As for Power having around 2000 is more than adequate for dealing damage.
So 75% Crit Damage with 35% Crit Rate and 2000 Power is a perfectly balanced set of stats and once you have this you can focus everything else on giving yourself more HP and Armour.
I would argue that that is not a very good rule of thumb. Crit damage in it self adds very little to overall dps and the only time when its worth stacking is when you go for burst builds and imo that isnt what Op is looking for.
35% crit chance
65% or 75% crit damage
2k power
2000*1,403=2806
2000’1,438=2876
2876-2806=70
70/2806=2,5% increase in overall damage
Or have i missed something here?Budget wise each percentage of crit damage roughly corresponds to 16 in precision so 10% crit damage corresponds to 150-160 in precision which is 7-8% crit chance. Why i chose to write roughly is that it differs from piece to piece. Celestials excluded in the above, those suckers has their own logic.
In a wvw frontliner crit damage is probably the last stat to invest in from a purely efficiency perspective.
In hope im right in the above or i have been calculating my effective stats badly for a very long time and none of my advise regarding stat optimizing should be taken seriously.
I would argue that I said it was a rule of thumb and not the be all and end all and it isn’t perfect by a long shot however it does give an okay basis to work around.
Can you please quote me where I said stacking Crit damage was a good idea? All I stated was if you’re going to have Crit damage you’ll want to have the adequate Crit chance to at least utilise it otherwise it’s just a waste of a statistics slot and may as well be replaced with toughness or something.
Also what are the numbers above showing? I get that 2000 is the power as you’ve stated that but everything is just looks like random numbers. Please list everything appropriately so I can see what I’m looking at. A number is just a number till you give it a meaning.
The difference between 65% and 75% Crit Damage isn’t much at all in the grand scheme of things and seeing Crit damage breach the 80% margin should be the realm of Burst Builds alone really.
So yeah you’ve gone off on a tandem about Crit Damage stacking (still looking for where I said anything about that) where all I meant was Crit damage is pointless without adequate Crit Rate to back it up.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”

Also I’d stack some Sigils of life before you fight then switch weapons to ones with better ‘in combat’ sigils. The extra 250 healing power will be good for the team as a whole since you’ll be dodging about like a lunatic and healing as you go.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
Weirdly refreshing seeing someone play my exact build in WvW instead of the usual bunker or Hybrid zerg crawler. It makes me even more tempted to record my own fights and upload them. Well played!
If I may ask what build do you run? just to see if it is the exact same
haha
0/10/30/30/0 with triple meds and GS/Hammer with 2 sigils of energy slotted on the weapons
Dang man that’s a good build you’re currently running my old one but I do have the 2 energy sigils
I rotate between 20/0/30/20/0 for Burst, 0/10/30/30/0 for an all rounder and 0/0/30/20/20 for more group orientated fights. Usually see me running around as the all rounder.
I only recently went back to the all rounder after a while because I missed my VoJ blind tbh haha
What gear are you running with these builds?
Full Zerker Trinkets and armour is either full Zerker or Knights depending if I’m running on the edge of Zergs or solo roaming.
I recently gave up on healing on dodge rolls since it really doesn’t do a huge amount on just 200 or so healing power so my current build is 20/10/30/5/5 and is doing me quite nicely.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
A good way to tell who the real one is would be looking for the buffs provided by food/signets/bloodlust etc etc.
idk if i saw a bug or not but u cant find them by signets any longer now signets are on every clone and phantasm lol. but i think it was a bug im not to sure but when i was fighting a warrior yesterday i tapped one of my clones and it had my signet of dom on it so. yea…. but im not entirely sure about it i would have to ask around.
Worked fine for me yesterday and I was fighting 2v4 which was me and a warrior against 3 mesmers and a thief. I can’t deny I was confused and needed a minute for my eyes to adjust after the fight but I always found the real one.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
I’ve never understood why guardians feel they need swiftness in combat. 2 teleports, 2 leaps, 2 walls to keep them in place, and you can use almost all of these at once with the right weapons / utilities selected.
cripple has no place on a guardian. they have plenty of mobility built in to their skill use. by that argument neither is swiftness. Sure it’s nice to travel faster, but in combat there’s no reason for it. At times my thief and warrior feel LESS mobile than my guard.
If your Thief or Warrior feels less mobile than a Guardian then something is seriously going wrong in the world. There is a big difference between a Guardian specced for Mobility and a Warrior or Thief specced for mobility.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
heh… wvw zerker guards…

I’ve gotta say I’ve been enjoying 20/20/30/0/0 quite a bit using Sword/Focus and Scepter/Torch since I can reduce the cooldowns on the Focus and Torch both so I can deliver high Burst damage without any waiting around throughout the entire fight.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
A decent burst build played well will allow you to drop the person you’re fighting in the fist 10 seconds of a fight which stops them from doing anything and therefore means you survive.
I fought a Mesmer earlier and he started poping clones/phantasms etc but before he knew it I had already burst him for 15K and he was dead. God bless being able to teleport.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
If you provide the build you are using and what exactly bothers you about them I can give you some pointers.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
Well it is too poor, more than it should be. It’s not like guardians have a speed signet like other professions. Moreover, It is the only profession that cannot apply cripple/chill, meaning your enemy is free to kite the heck out of you until your teleports CD’s are up, that is if staff/scepter are not included in your build, not that they are great range weapons right now.
As a Guardian there are only 2 classes I can’t demolish: Thief (if it’s a well played dodging thief) and the condition engineer with bombs and grenades and it’s because both kite exceptionally well. Being able to kill anything else without too much of an issue is a pretty good result in my opinion.
Condition Mesmer, a well played healing signet LB warrior.
I’m not really sure how you find those 2 classes difficult. Mesmers you just Focus the real one and make him wish that signet or corruptions stacks didn’t give him away as the real one and as for the LB Warrior that is hands down the easiest type of warrior to kill in my experience.
By the way guys my point of view is totally based on the pvp aspect of the game. Mostly zerk guardians are the only ones that will agree with me on swiftness.
As for pve, I would prefer fury all day.
I am a Berserker Guardian and have played as such since launch and have not once changed from this in my year of play. Give me the Fury…all the Fury…

I have already accepted the fact that we will get kited and if the player is good then you’ll have a hell of a time trying to keep on him without GS+Sword or Scepter. It is one of those things you’ll have to accept as I doubt they’ll make much of a change to our mobility.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
This would be pretty good for WvW in a Zerg Scenario and is pretty close to what most people run however I would change the food you are using for one.
Also remove the Sigil of Bloodlust from the weapon you will be using in actual combat. Use 2 other weapons with the Sigils to stack Power killing NPC’s then once done switch to your main weapon and go fight people as this allows you to maintain the stacks and have an extra Sigil that will be useful in a fight.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
I hate the Issue with the torch that if the player is on a slight slope etc the 4 skill seems to miss 50% of the time for no reason at all. It’s meant to be a ranged skill so it should be able to handle being shot up a slight incline.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
Hey great gameplay just like your last video, how do you counter against condi classes? I have trouble facing Condi Engis, Necros and Mesmers
Necros and Mesmers you hound them and don’t let them take a single breath. As for the Engineer it’s a little tougher since they’re better than the previous 2 at kiting so you’ll want the Scepter or GS/Sword combo to be able to stop that from happening.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
There are hard counters for Melee based fighting styles that will kite you and turn you in road kill without much of an issue so the only option is to bring your own ranged weapon to the party. A well played Dodge style Thief (especially if he avoided going full Zerker) will give you a hell of a time and the same for the Condition Engineer. All they have to do is stay out of hitting range and rain down the pain.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
ya, im fine with that, xpt that you can’t really burst with a full PTV gear setup.
And you have no stability fyiOfc you can burst, if you have survivability you will have time and if you have time you can stack might and if you can stack might you can have silly amounts of power.
Might stacking is very useful unless you meet a Necro or a thief. Never give a Thief free might stacks or you’ll end up wondering where the 12K backstab came from.
Sure, but that exception doesn’t make PVT gear any less good in WvW.
Didn’t say anything about PVT gear only that there is a counter to might stacking is all. PVT gear is currently widely used in WvW and for good reason.
That’s not how Bountiful Theft works. One stack of Might is not going to make a huge difference on Backstab. Thieves have a lot of ways to get Might for themselves anyway, particularly if they aren’t running some kitten-useless glass Backstab build.
I’m just going off of what I’ve heard about Bountiful Theft so if it is wrong my apologies I don’t really play assassin style classes myself so my time on Thief is limited.
As a Guardian the 2 classes I find that hard counter me are good PP/Sbow theives since a good one will kite exceptionally well and Condition based Grenade/bomb kit Engineers for the same reason. Glass cannon Theives are hands down the easiest class to deal with.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
You can run with this and do alright however I will warn you that PvE players tend not to be amazingly forgiving if people aren’t wearing full Berserker because they want to clear things as quickly as humanly possible and high HP and Toughness should not be needed if you can dodge well enough.
I actually havent had anyone being upset that I dont have full beserker set. No one has actually asked before.
Here is what I am running with currently:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fUAQNAR7elYgiC33RLEmIFRuAbBYPwYG741DHmQGC-jQCBIgwIhAYLQZRFRjV1ATVCRXKoaUR2lADA-e(Yes I dont have any runes or jewels. Havent gotten round to it yet.)
I guess it’s not all that different from what has already been linked. And if it’s not all that different, now I am thinking maybe I should just leave myself as I am XD I mean, I have two norn cultural t3 transmuted onto my chest and leg piece. XD
Slightly reluctant to have to get them again.I must say, the Celestial gear is appealing for it’s ‘bit of everything’ stats. I’m just not super keen on the time gating I’ve heard about it.
Might be because we’re on different Servers or maybe the people I end up going with have the Berserker addiction cause I’ve been asked nearly everytime I dungeon run if I’m full Zerker or not and I’ve seen plenty kicked for not having it.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
Zerkers in every profession are specialised and tend to be very unforgiving if any mistakes are made since you’ll be taking incredible amount of damage in exchange for you dealing the same to others.
It’s a very split second, on the ball, pick your moments kind of gameplay and that really isn’t for everyone since some people find it more stressful than enjoyable. If you play a flawless game then there isn’t much you can’t rip to pieces however 1 mistake could be you in the downed state wondering what 1 shot you.
This is a nice summary tanshiniza, and should be stickied!
Thanks very much for the compliment and again I’m surprised at the stuff I come out with when I actually have a good nights sleep haha

I’d be quite happy with those numbers for WvW… maybe add a berserker weapon and a couple other beserker jewels to do dungeons. But yeah… Celestial seems pretty good for an all rounder. Not amazing, but you don’t have to carry a dozen bits of gear in your bag either.
You can run with this and do alright however I will warn you that PvE players tend not to be amazingly forgiving if people aren’t wearing full Berserker because they want to clear things as quickly as humanly possible and high HP and Toughness should not be needed if you can dodge well enough.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
Ascended vs Exotics the difference is minor and personally I will probably never bother with them unless they make them easier to obtain but onto the main question.
For dungeons most people run Berserker as it’s quicker to do the content and you don’t really need any further defence than dodge rolls in 9/10 cases. If you want to maintain some survivability you can run Knights for armour and Berserker accessories.
You haven’t missed out anything big with Celestial gear it’s kinda just a gimmick more than anything else so in all add Berserker gear to increase your damage output to a level your happy and then use whatever other gear you feel comfortable with for the rest such as knights.

I agree with the fix for a bug however in the grand scheme of things if they only plan to reduce the number of ‘stackable applications’ for duration stacking conditions to 5 then this is still a nerf. It might be an indirect nerf as it is a fix however in the current Meta it’s still a nerf.
However the rate that some classes (Condition Engi and Necro cough) can apply conditions I don’t think this’ll be as damaging as some people may think. What is flawed is the Game itself at the moment. Until the PvP/WvW issues are addressed changes like this are just teardrops to an ocean; they’ll make their ripples but quickly become part of the big picture and disappear.
