To be honest this is what I imagined the dragon fights would be like whent i first started playing this game. Right now tequatl gives me the feeling of being faced with an epic beast that really need teamwork to kill, and not to be half afk and spamming 1111, and dodge the ocasional creeper (i admit it i did it also before the patch, half afk at Tequatl). Now you can’t, it is a challenge to defeat him, even if it is a pain, but i find it fun.
Time to end my little rant here before i start going of track.
same in ROS fail to remove scales, but still best event so far
Well, for now one of the classes that has a high learning curve is the ranger. The class is far from perfect, but in 1vs1 situation and in WvW (solo and small group roams) it can shine in the hands of a good player.
Also you might want to give the ele a shot
I just discovered the sword in wvw. I was mostly using a lb and axe/warhorn but now sword/torch(or dagger, depends) is my new main set. Still keeping the axe/other weapon for the secondary set. You can definetly melt ppl with sword in wvw
Main ranger and got a necro?
Anet, we want a hybrid class, necro ranger
PS: Good thing i already had a low level necro
So far, from my point of view (casual wvw, nothing hardcore) i find this matchup way better than our previous one (AG/DZ for example). It’s true that i didn’t see any small BT/FOW groups (5 ppl tops), or the ones i saw were extremly rare, but the fights we had were pretty kitten fun.
It alwyas feels good to see that you have a 2vs1 ratio in a fight and you still win or kill half of them.
PS. I hope we get another matchup like this
I’m in also. Don’t do pvp so much but why not, sounds like something interesting
PvE yes
Dungeons/fractlas – decent
WvW -yes but depends on build
I’d like a harpy as a pet.
Or give us a drakeling
I gave up on my ranger a few weeks ago after playing only that since launch and in gw1.
The ranger isn’t that they promised it would be, and besides i’m having a lot more fun on my warrior in WvW now because I can actually kill people.
And you say that with ranger you can’t kill people? You can, but just not as fast as with warr/guard/memser/ele etc.
Find your own playstyle/build and experiment. Ranger is a fun class to play, abeit not on part with the others, still has it’s problems but nonetheless it’s fun.
P.S: Perosnaly i’m running a ranger 70% of the time being in WvW and i have no troble kiling people.
For our beloved bears/spiders
Bears – Knockdown on their maul (seriously you get hit by a bear and no knockdown??)
– bleeds or weakness/vulnerability
Spiders – more escape methods (like the skill you get in the spider guild rush – move to a area a leav a clone behind)
– some more imobilize, cripple would be nice
– poison on attack or on critical hits
Also the ideea of pet levels is nice. Some gear for pets would be nice also (craftable from all the junk items you get – sider legs broken claws, fangs, etc. and the some ores, gems).
I’m also a ranger roaming in wvw (solo or small group and posibly the ocasional zerg run) and I’ve encoutered plety of spirit rangers. They suck, badly. I run a 20/30/20/0/0 build with axe/warhorn and longbow and those guys went down fast. Like really fast. Barrage + rapid fire + hunter’s call and auto attack and dead spirit ranger.
For pvp it may need a nerf (don’t know because i don’t pvp much) but for wvw i don’t think it’s that useful the build.
Anyways, end of my small rant, getting tired of hearing that new nerfs will be added to the ranger and no improvements, but we will survive.
From wht i heard the ranger is decent in pvp at the moment (not playing a spirit/trap build). I ocasionaly join a pvp mach just for the fun of it, but i don’t think we need another nerf, especialy when a new build was made/discovered that helps the class overall.
Actualy I think the ranger needs more love, not more nerfs.
Just my two cents.
Ranger is a good class that still needs some polishing. Not going to deny it, or try to argue it, it’s a fact. Also for the end-game (wvw, lvl 75+ dungeons) you will likely need more skill than a warrior or guard to survive. The class is fun to play, a bit more dificult than the others (longer learning curve).
Anyways my advice is to give it a go, see if you like it and if you do have fun.
Well tbh in my opinion the ranger in wvw is the guerrilla fighter. You don’t rush ahead with the guardians and warriors into the fray, you stick to the sideline and cause havoc from there. Traps, the longbow’s barrage and some smart thinking helps. Plenty of time i was ignored as a ranger by the enemy zerg and remained behind their lines and raining traps, entangle and barrage over them. Also you can cut their retreat if you go for the back lines.
That’s how i see the ranger. The guerrilla figher that dosen’t engage ofthen in melee combat but keeps his distance and causes havoc and disesntion. Nothing is more fun than placing a AC behind the enemy zerg and raining arrows on them melting them down.
My norn ranger in full arah armor roaming the forests of queensdale. I used Abyss and another color i can’t remember right now. I liked the dark ranger theme look.
didn’t knew that and thanks for the info and tips. It was mainly a theory craft for when i’ll get to 80. With your sugestions sounds good.
when you change atunments is it considered a weapon swap?
Hello, i’m kinda new to the elementalist (had one a long time ago) and i’m planning to make one for wvw solo and small group roaming.
This is the build i’ve been thinking about http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fEMQJAoYhEmibyR4QlDAEFn4yQRIbUegDN2A-jECBoLCh00gUBAZRFRjtMqIas6FY6SER1uEFRrWKAzUGB-w
Any tips on what to change or criticism is apreciated.
I run a 20/30/20 build with a axe/warhorn and longbow build.
Kinghits armor with 5 guardian runes and a soldier rune and celestial trinkets.
Troll unguent, spike trap, frost trap and lighting reflexes as utility and entangle as elite.
You can play with the major taits to spec between bow/axe/and swords or go for traps.
Personaly i stick with the trap traits because i find them more useful in wvw.
This is the current build i’m using for WvWvW. It’s based on solo roaming and small group fights.
It ofers a decent amount of suvivability when roaming and a decent damage output in fights. For sieges you can swap the traits for the shorter bow cooldowns and increased range. Initialy i was using knight trinkets but i’ve noticed that with celestial trinkets you do a bit less damage but have a little bit more suvivability.
Also mango pies are used to complement the healing from te troll unguent and the sharpening stones provide the extra power needed.
Any questions, remarks and comments are apreciated

This is the build i was thinking about using mainly for wvw. Mostly focuses on solo or small group roaming.
I’m new to the class so if anyone can share any criticism it would be apreciated.
thanks again. i’ll try out some stuff keeping your advices in mind. think it’s best if i experiment and see what works best for me.
Thanks for the replies guys. I’m mostly aiming for pve. I’ll ceck Khalifa’s guide.
One question Is dagger/dagger viable for necro?
I’m aiming for this kind of build

the ideea sounds pretty neat. should be fun to see if they implement it how it would work in actual ingame enviromet. but nonetheless it should be fun.
From what i’ve read so far most people are complaining that the rnager is UP. He isn’t! The rangers is not for burst damage like the warrior or ele/memser/thief. A ranger does constant damage. You don’t kill a mob within seconds with a big burst, you starve it, so to say.
I’m running a ranger also 30/30/5/5 build with sb/lb. The sb for the sustained damage and the extra evade, and the lb for burst( hunter’s shot + barrage + rapid fire) or when i want to snipe a target from afar. The pet is the tank so to say, he keeps the mob distracted for me while I deal the damage. So don’t complain that the ranger is UP, the ranger requires a bit more tactical play than the other classes. Pick your battles and pick your place were to fight them.
I’m refering here to PvE. i don’t play in PvP or WvW.

Hello, I’m currently looking for a group for daily/weekend arah runs.
Ramble
Most of the time with PuG groups we get stuck at Lupi (p4), or otherwise people just plce in the usual skip, skip, skip. I agree on skipping some parts, but not rush for boss. frankly I enjoy killing the trash mobs and thinking diferent strategies to get them, so implicitly i prefer a longer run. Not for the loot just for the fun of it.
end of ramble
If someone knows or is planing on forming a group, wisper me ingame.
I’m also interested in the Arah group. Curently i have a ranger and warr full exotic. It’s hard to find a good group for Arah. I’ve added you to friends, theodor Vlad or Miss Lorelay (name of my chars)
My norn ranger / mesmer/warrior/ elementalist and i’m pretty happy with how the look at the moment
1st screenshot the shatterer from mortar viewpoint; 2nd one, first meeting with Lupi (we aa love him); 3rd one, my mesmer in shadow armor; 4th, zaithan before the end of story; 5th – i angered too many of them ….
Home World: Ruins of Surmia (EU)
Guild Name: Wandererz
Guild Website: none at the moment, maybe in the future
In-Game Contact: theodor.3480 ; Eljayne.3582 ; Smifel.6495
Focus: PvE in general with the ocasional PvP or WvW dabling
Quick Notes: Small guid, newly founded with a friendly and laidback comunity, looking for people who want to have fun. Only rules no offensive language and behaviour. Bufs at lvl 3 except WvW( we don’t do that yet)
Since the patch today, the BLTC has been extremely slow, and even times out (see attached).
The BLTC is generally very slow (it’s quite annoying to be honest), and I really hope this gets sorted out some time soon.
same problem here, anyone knows how it can be fixed?

This is my ranger build, more of a glass cannon, mostly focused on kitting and dps. I run a full Berserker’s set + Rune of Infiltration. For PvE as pets Devourers (good hp/armor) and the Fernhound (regen). For healing I use the Healing Spring (decent amount of healing + regen + condition removal). The only thing I change in dungeons is the Devourers, replacing them with the Brown Bear. As for the elite, Entangle.
I’ve done the dungeon many times on story and frankly it is lame. IT was easy before the nerf, but now, come on ANet, we’re almost falling asleep there. Do something to make it more entertaining.
I expected more from the end boss, but he was dissapointing.
PS: sorry for any grammar errors, english is not my native language.
I’d also be interested, just read the tread. Not a big froum trotter.
Frankly, from what i’ve read, the discussion here goes nowhere. Rangers are good, rangers are bad, blablabla. It depends on how you play and what the situation is and how you exploit it. I’m also plaing a ranger full dps longbow/shortbow and frankly i have a good survivability rate. Never once got insults or kicked because i was a ranger. In some cases i’ve survided mora than a guardian or warrior whom were tanking.
The ranger is a good class, for solo Pve or dungeons, you just need to know what and when to do it.
My lvl 80 ranger (the one on the right) Fullkarma armor from vendor outiside of arah and armageddon boots
