Is it only me that always crashes in dragon’s stand or are there other people. Usualy when doing the ds meta i put everything on the lowest setting but still crashing quite frequently. Any advices? Thanks
Actlualy that bug is ancient…. at lest it’s not the overlapped 2 birds
To continue with the necroing
Smokescale – Smoking Hot
Tiger – Pink Flully Unicorn
Electriv Wyvern – Charred Charr
Shark – Jaws of Farming
Bristleback – I blame Charr (ref to the wyvern)
In all honesty, ranger/druid is a decent class. It depends on the player. With a power build with sword/axe or longbow/staff i can pretty much go everywhere. If you aren’t comfortable in zerker armor use marauders/kinght/valkyrie and zerk trinkets. The dps loss isn’t that bad if you don’t plan on doing raids or t4 fracs.
Well it is true true that BD has saved my kitten a whole lot of times, but in all honesty i don’t find it that unbalanced. You pop it once, block/stunbreak and if you don’t have anything else, youre dead tbh. At least for me that is the only defensive utility that i run, it makes it worth to time it properly to survive. Also staff is nice in wvw but i still prefer d/d
Who do you hope is your audience is here? Posting this in the thief forum is a bit like going to a church and asking why some people aren’t keen on Jesus.
Well I’m looking mostly at the people who complain about thief. Since all the salt is here maybe some enlightenment will come… who knows…
I’ve been lurking on the forums for some time, looking for info and suck and the great majority of the threads i see are all salty about thief being op and whatnot. Now i ask you why all the salt? Are you annoyed that thieves got stealth and and extra dodges? No CD on weapon skills? Well you don’t have to. If you don’t build for stealth, you won’t get it, or get it in low numbers with small benefits (looking a CnD and Backstab ICD here). You say thieves spam weapon skills? Dodge, cc, fear them or make them waste that precious ini that is in limited number so that he can aa only.
But thieves have so much dodge, why can’t i hit? Condi is your friend here… Thieves melt with condi, with 13k hp in glass gear they will melt.
So at the end of the rant i want to ask you why so salty against thief when there are many counters? This is coming from a thief, and I love the class over any others.
Cheers and thanks for reading.
Edit – typos i think
Got to love this. Tybalt was and is one of my fav NPC’s in the game. Apples for sale everyone
What if i go for full commanders? Both armor and trinkets with leadership runes and zerk weapons? Won’t that basicaly work well as a compromise across open world/fracs? I don’t think i’ll touch wvw with mesmer except maybe for eotm, but that’s something else.
Well i intend to use it mostly for PvE, open world and maybe some fracs, but that’s a big maybe.
Hello, new/returning mesmer here. Can i get some opinions on this build? What could be changed and what is out of place in it. Thanks.
My guild has been doing this but in PvP, inside a custom arena (foefire’s middle point works best for the playfield and goal posts). I can be a blast playing a match with 4 teams facing eachother
I’m a ranger looking for a party/team for this. Sounds like something fun and why not do it (no experience in speedruns, but i can try) also i’m on Eu (ROS). Wisper me ingame if you want me to join you or another team is forming.
P.S – ING -Theodor Vlad
Jus for he first point, as some other people mentioned sword dagger, 3 evades on low cooldown, gs auto attack 1s evade every 2s + a 3-4s sec block on a 12-15s cooldown.
Condi removal – healing spring (got to love it – also a water field that you can blast) the new gm trait – survival of the fittest (lose two condis of survival skill use).
Melee ranger is not terrible – sword/wh or axe dps is almost on par with warrior/guardian (some other people did the math, don’t have the link righ now). Sword/x is the offensive set and gs is more for utility (and has some decent damage output)
The pet needs o be micromanaged. It’s true that sometimes i want to punch it in the face, but if you keep it on passive and tell him when to attack and when to come back it won’t be a reliability (also good to use with SoR – you don’t need to put yourself in danger to rez a dead person, free meatshield, aka pet).
So overall from your post it seems that either: 1) You haven’t played the class for more than a few levels or 2) You’re just trolling
he class isn’t bad in itself, it’s just the players. rue i could use some tweaks, buffs, but overall we’re in a pretty good spot right now.
Every class has it’s bad players, on ranger it’s more noticeable, thats all
For Pve open world, the usual dungeons and low level fractal, you can go full zerk (low level <30). For 40 and above i tent to throw in a piece or two of knights/sentinel. As for weapons/pets i constantly swap them, but the gs is always there (the evade on auto attack is too good to miss on higher lvl fractals). Just don’t take the path of the almighty bearbow, because in all honesty hey suck
If it were implemented, i’d lear to solo it in a hope for a legendary. Bu tbh it would be interesting for a normal dungeon fractal (with better rewards, it’s a chore to get to lvl 39+)
Trap ranger says hello to dead mm necro. Throw traps, kite with sb and if you feel like it switch to melee and go in his face. Also wolf f2 with marsh/rier drake f2 work wonders. MM necro is easy o kill, jus kite and pay attention, that’s all.
Got her this morning on my mesmer (50+ tries) but it was so worth it. All it takes is practice and just a bit of awareness. Is it fustrating, irritating to dies 50 times in a row? Yes. Bu the feeling when you get her is unique.
P.S – She dosen’t need a nerf, she’s not that op, hate to use this line again but i think for some ppl it’s a l2p issue
That the use for toK? I thought the were cheese for zomorros
Agreed with you, i didn’t say that i doesn’t have disadvantages, or it’s downfalls. You won’t be the best at roaming, and you’re squishy as hell, but the build is viable. I also played with it for some time then reverted back to my trap build (much more fun to play than spamming rapid fire and barrage).
So the build is good, but you will be as squishy as a ele (if someone looks in your genral direction you will be dead)
Longbow power build is viable atm. 6/0/2/6/0 with SotF and read the wind, lb as main and gs offhand is pretty decent. You will be squishy as hell but it’s not your job to fight on point, your job is to snipe those pesky power necros/staff eles, or put presure on the enemy bunker.
Spirit ranger is pretty cheese in my opinion, but that’s just me, i played it but got bored of it pretty quicky, it’s almost a no brainer
Played right a sword/dagger ranger is very hard to kill. Just with this weapon set you can go condi, zerk, trapper or just the old fashioned bm bunker. All are effective but the skill ceeling for melee ranger is pretty high (sword auto roots you, you need to lear to manage your pet cd, use utilities wisely). Otherwise the weapon set is viable and versatile
I find it quite usefull in tpvp. if you want to pick up that pesky necro/zerk staff ele or other target from the sideline, this trait is golden. With the new build 6/0/2/6/0, you can burst down a target on the other side of the node pretty fast, and then be able to switch targets to help your team. I think it’s good were it is, haven’t tried in in wvw/pve because i don’t use a longbow there
When the Ranger became goood in group play?
Unless you are talking about SPvP only.Yeah in sPvP, the rangers are ok (immobile tanky things with their spirits)
but not so in Dungeons
Are Dungeons not considered Small Group play?Try a Ranger in Zerk Groups and see how fast they kick you.
Lol, many of the speedrunning groups include a ranger in the party (poper build, gear, trinkets) for the buffs it brings. Spotter (extra crit chance is always nice), traited frost spirits (70% chance on hit to get a extra 7% damage), fury, might from pets/warhorn, long lasting water field, and extra reflect on a relatively low cd (25s if traited – can’t remember exactly) or the warhorn for the extra blast finisher, a fire field on a 15 s cd (fire trap), party wide res/condi removal (spirit of nature, you can proc it 2 times before it dies, and a 3rd time when it dies with trait – migh be wrong here can’t remember exactly the cooldowns) witch is better than warr elite banner.
So rangers bring plenty to a party in a dungeon but if you are a bearbow, camping max range and pew pew you won’t benefit your party. And the reason plety of rangers get kicked is because the bearbow metality (this has been discused in plenty of threads up until now).
So to end my wall of text, if played right a ranger can bring plenty to his party, if played wrong it’s a liability that will be spotted from a mile away.
For open world pve the lonbow + bear pet is best (hence bearbow). For dungeons is another story. Sword with either ex (for reflect) or warhorn (blast finisher + fury, might, switness) and gs offhand (can swat to shortbow when needed) are the weapons of choice. As for traits a 4/4/0/6 build is generaly good. You will need spotter in marksmaship, vigurous spirits in nature magic and the rest is your call. Also look you youtube for brazil’s video guides, he explain everything better (even if he talks a lot).
And as stubie said, the most ranger hate comes from the bearbow, that camp lb at max range and don’t bring anything good to the party
Well if you are in the middle of a fight, it’s kinda ok to continue for those 10-30s until the match ends, but random attacks are kinda annoying to tell the trut. I usualy let them kill me but still bugs me why ppl do it
Lol this thread, as a elementalist and ranger i can say that i have no problem with thieves. True the mobility is irritating but it’s not at a unbearable level. Actually the thieves seem weaker than before (my ranger/ele used to be easy prey to them).
If their mobility is something that kittens you out use a bit of a brain and see when he is vulenrable, or when he will use those skills (condi overload + thief stealth will result in a dead thief, just saying / or ranger rapid fire – tracks in stealth, or your pet that will chase the stealthed thief/ on ele earth 4 and 5 with dagger, or air 3) plenty of counters for thief. So i don’t get the qq about something that has been in game from the beginning and has been used for so long, that ppl now how to counter them.
P.S: Sorry for my grammar, not a native speaker
Well we got some more viable builds. You gan go 30/0/10/30/0 power ranger with lb/gs, condi bunker spirit with 0/10/30/30/0 with sb, sword+dagger, the classic bm build (these are the ones i use so far). Also pet’s are more responsive, especialy the f2 skill. So overall you can say we got some improvements
well i kinda expected it to be in the ws line but oh well, should work out somehow
Well tbh, the bearbow sindrome is quite spread. My main is a ranger and i often cringe when i see a lb+bear ranger in the dungeon run.
For OP, banning some classes improves chances of a better run, but it’s not a fail proof method. Also ppl don’t read the lfg descriptions, so it’s kinda expected
I think it’s related to the upcoming patch. This usualy happens before a patch, so it’s nothing new
So if we completed the story dungeon on a character will we get the track rewards on another character or do we have to do them on the pvp char?
Well just my two cents:
1) Les pet focused/oriented traits – we have plenty of traits that are focused on the pet and not on the ranger. either remove/merge/rethink them or make pets more survivable
2) Pet survivability in heavy aoe – i think everyone has this problem, even with your pet on passive it still get’s melted by aoe, and becoming a dead weight
3) Sword auto attack root – please fix this, it’s anoying as hell.
4) Pet responsiveness – this will be fixed in the feature patch so let’s wait and see what happens
5) Back to traits – most of our traits are all over the place (first example is martial mastery in ws – wth is it doing there? i think it would be better placed in marksmanship or skirmishing)
Well this is what buges me the most, the rest i say it’s pretty ok and good, or workable with (with much more effort though)
@Fluffball – Nice build, definetly glassy but viable.
@Tricare – jump in that condi necro’s face and he will panick – that’s the best way to deal with them, get close in melee and nuke
Op – experiment in pvp (gear is free there) and see what suits you Usualy the best build for a person is the one that they make for themsleves. get advie from others and work on that
Until they fix the current bugs/class problem i don’t want a new class. For a new race yes, but no new class.
Well another advice i can give you is try out a build is pvp (soloq or teamq, hotjoin was a zergfest last time i was in there) and see how it works, then adapt it to wvw.
Well this is my power build. I personaly don’t like the longbow so i switched it to sword/dagger. It’s mostly a melee build (can swap gs with sb if needed). Lots of evades from sword+dagger and gs auto. So far it worked pretty well for me.
+1

Lol Lillith, the “clear drege despite infinite respawn” made me laugh and cry at the same time.
P.S: Bowbears at high level fractals? 0.0 that is something new
level 19 fractal pug. 2x Warr, 1 mesmer and 2x ranger (one of them was me). We get swamp and bloomhunger. As the boss fight starts i’m noticing i’m th only one in melee (warrs were using rifles and the other ranger was at 1200 distance away). Ofc i die and it takes the party a full 5 mins to kill bloomhunger from 50% hp. In my head – the only zerker in cleric land.
Left the party after i got my champ chest
One thing i can say about this thread, LOL. Browse the forums and you can find a milion more threads like this one. Zerk gear/build can be mind mumbing at times, but it’s still better than clerics/pvt, etc. And btw don’t you prefer to complete content easier and faster than poke the mobs/bosses/champs with a wet noodle?
P.S: Zerk = active defences (blind, aegis, dodge) and it requiers more timing that passive ones. And don’t pick straws and Lupiand other bosses speedkills those are irrerevant
Well tbh it’s a start. And what we saw on the dev blog was just a preview. Let’s just wait until the feature patch then we shall see what is what. No point in commenting now because it’s a preview.
P.S: Somehow the class is workable without the things mentioned in the patch preview, just not as reliable
Think that this is the 5k thread i read about zerker gear, zerker build, etc. The diference between zerk and clerics/pvt/shaman, etc is that you relly on active defences (dodge, blind aegis, etc) not passive defenses (hight armor and hp). As many have said before me it’s a high risk vs a high reward play style.
P.S: Can’t count the zerk parties that failed at lupi because they didn’t know the mechanics (dodge grubs, the kick, and avoid the dome in p3)
Well this is what i’m running atm for wvw solo or 3-4 man groups. So far it’s been pretty effective
Took traveler runes for the 25% movent speed bonus so i won’t have to slot Signet of the hunt. You can swap your gs with a shortbow or longbow, but i prefer to get a bit up close and personal.
It’s true, rangers seem to suck, bet they aren’t that bad. At first playing with a ranger is easy. Get a bow + bear and pew pew mobs while pet takes the damage. And then you enter your first dungeon and a party members tells you to use a sword+x / great sword and you realize that you don’t have only bows. You see a axe, sword, dagger, torch, great sword and the long and short bows. You try to improve and see that the gs is better than the longbow, the axe auto bounces and with a torch/war horn offhand is pretty nice. you almost overlooked the sword because when you tried it you found yourself jumping all over the place and decided to ignore it. For some time you remain stuck with gs/axe+x sb or lb, then some friends tell you to use the sword. You give it a go and see that it’s good but the root is annoying, but still manageable. By now you probably are 80 and trying to find a build for yourself. You look over the trait lines and wonder why are your traits so all over the place, but manage to crop up something, only to see that it isn’t working that good. You decide to fine tune it, change a trait here and there, a piece of armor/trinket etc. and then you still continue to fine tune it.
The pets sometimes annoy the hell out of you, but you learn to use them. In short the ranger is easy at the surface but to make it work you have a steep learning curve.
