Well timid, I’ve been using this variations of this build since launch and I can tell you without any doubts, guardians aren’t really a problem. Not in 1v1 and not in group fights. The only issue with them is their massive cc if they use hammer, not their condition removal. I’m not saying you won’t find one that beats you, it can happen, but other classes will have less problems doing so.
A class that can give you trouble is necro, they have alot of tools to defeat this build, elixir C helps alot against them, 409 not so much.
Anyway, check out the new vid at https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Paradigm-SHIFT-a-wvw-movie
I’ve been playing this build for the last couple of days, and yeh what you say is correct. I haven’t had much issue with necros, then again my server consists mostly of mesmers and thieves. I rarely see a necro. The only necro I’ve seen in two days, ironically, was an arena net staff guy that was playing one.
Probably the best thing about the build is that it uses the same trait point setup as my pve hgh might stacking flamethrower build, so I get to avoid any cost when swapping into pve mode. I just have to swap a few traits and gear around.
I tried this build when 10 taken out of toughness and put into tools for speedy kits, but the invisibility trait + elixir s + elixir s trait combines for to much survivability.
Good job dude, you actually gave me some small motivation to go farm up some legendary weapons.
EDIT:
I do have one question. Why not put supreme sigil of battle on one of your guns so that you get 3 might stacks every time you go back and forth between toolkit and pistols?

Hmmmm okay just tried the build. It works pretty good, but if there is a condition cleaner, particularly a guardian, anywhere nearby then you become useless.
Oh, of course. The slight difference might be that we are condition spam based rather than condition nuking. Reapplying them over and over proves to be a major pain even for those shrugging them off, especially if it’s poison and burning. Also, a random Pry Bar in the middle of a Guardian or an Ele’s attack cycle does tremendous and rarely noticeable confusion damage.
It works out. I vote it as a good build and will probably continue to use it. What I have been looking for, for a while, is a good build that isn’t entirely kit based. In other words, a good build that uses a rifle or pistols. Basically, a build that would get some use out of me picking up a legendary weapon. This fits the bill.
That said, the effectiveness is questionable against a guardian or anyone built around mass cleansing conditions. It works out surprisingly well against a thief. I can’t seem to do very well against a mesmer, but that is probably me and not the build.
The most surprisingly effective thing about the build is coated bullets. I always viewed it as a useless trait, which is why I almost overlooked this build, but boy is it not useless.

dont expect much, its just a short vid with some fights I had this morning.
So, I changed some stuff around:
Prybar is just too good right now, 5 stacks of confusion for 5 whole seconds is insane and it still crits for 2k+ with direct damage, I honestly don’t know what the devs were thinking here.
I dropped C, slotted toolkit, dropped potent elixirs, traited into 409.
To make up for the lost elixir, I swapped sigil of earth for sigil of strength. Thanks Amadeus, Siofra, Kardiamond, Amiable, Lavzz and Raquel for their respective ideas, opinions and whatnot.
I’ll make a full movie soon..!
Gw2 build appears to be down. Would you or anyone else mind posting the build somewhere else?

Oh and one final suggestion that is kind of a biggie.
Make legendary weapons effect all kits in some manner. Whether it is a slight damage boost or addition of something to the kit skills or even some bs cosmetic appearance change, I don’t care what. As it stands, if your a primary flamethrower user, it makes legendaries pointless to you.
Flamethrower needs some tweaks, but the addition of detonate allows you to make it compete with most other stuff in the game.
-My changes.-
1. Remove Deadly Mixture and increase the base flamethrower damage by 15%. Replace Deadily Mixture with a trait that decreases the length of the channel by of ft1 10-20% without decreasing damage. Put this anywhere but the alchemy tree.
2. I’d turn smoke vent into a gap closer. The smoke vent shoots you forward leaving a trail of smoke behind that blinds those that you pass through.
3. Rework incendiary ammo because it is pretty bad atm.
4. Add some synergy between charzooka and flamethrower. For example, when a char engineer uses charzooka, allow them to swap back and forth between charzooka and flamethrower until charzooka runs out.

I was curious why you decided to go with healing signet. It seems that most builds are going with mending to get rid of conditions when you shouts are down..
Also, given that you went all the way into shouts heal, it seems like it would be good to take that 10 out of strength and put it into defense to get a little bit of compassion.
Hey Rhodeo,
yes, I too aim with the ‘invisible cone’ and in normal DE it’s all good. But if I strafe right for example the mob i aggroed follows me (and he’s my target) and is now at 9 o’clock i can hit him with gun or pistol and keep running at normal speed ( since the shots ‘aim’).
This works for FT2 but is pretty hard but FT1 still attacks the cone your looking at ( 12 o’clock) so the FT is by default bad in such situations.
If this is intended by development ok, but I think if I spec for Jug. FT dmg, FT recharge or longer burns… such a common situation should be covered. I mean these are a lot of traits so you would def. not be OP since your dmg right now is also not skyrocketingIf FT2 would be reliable in this situation, than perhaps I’m ok with less or no FT1 hits but both are a problem in my eyes. Grenades have a better solution here.
The word intended in your post highlights my concern. Everyone is hanging out waiting for a fix, but we don’t really know what is intended. I’d like for them to come into this thread and tell us what the intended functionality of flamethrower is and whether it is currently functioning as intended.
I’ve noticed this as well. I can’t tell if you actually get the might stack or not, but the counter seems to have an issue counting sometimes. It is pretty frustrating.
Flamethrower got sub-par damage compared to anything really, don’t use it for damage, you’ll end up wasting runes, sigils and traits that most other classes won’t even need to do much more damage compared to us, and don’t even get me started on the buggyness of skill1 AND 2 still not fixed.
I would love to get just one response from someone that isn’t whining. The thread is not titled “what do you think is wrong with FT.”
I current have Bloodlust but its easily wiped, i might try some fire extension ones or something.
Gotta say flame thrower and elixir gun really need some buffs either way..nerfing the super Elixir really hurt my support build too..
I was thinking bloodlust as well, but you would have to be extremely focused on not dying lol.
Why would you want an engineer with 200 200 230 400 crit when you could have a ranger with 1000 1000 1110 with auto attack short bow then actually pay attention and snare daze vine in place with damage break out the longbow 1200 1900 3000 4000 5000 damage? It is assinine to me.
The point still remains that I don’t have an issue finding a group.

Yes, this is very helpful of you to post.
Your welcome. Maybe I’ll save you some time and heartache.
I am level 80 and I enjoy my engineer, thus I made a thread discussion hoping for responses from none whiny/kitten people that are mad about grenades.
I mean there is enough whinefest threads that have been made. Why not go frequent those instead of coming into this one.
I’ve never had an issue getting groups as an engineer.
Sure did you play today? What does an engineer bring to the dungeon that a Guardian or Ranger and especially Warrior doesnt?
You have never been turned out in a PUG for being an engi? Seriously I doubt you play much then. Play your engi what 1 or 2 times a week and come on here and tell me you have never had a problem? Engineer is like the fat slow kid in dodge ball. The last one to be picked. how many times have you seen “LF1M Dungeon looking for Engineer” . Never
I’ve been playing my engineer none stop for a while. It is the only class I play at the moment. I never said that people look for engineers. I don’t really need Engineers to be so good that people specifically seek them out. I said that I have never had any issues getting a group as an Engineer. If somebody says LF1M for whatever, I ask to join and they invite me. I have not been turned away once.
Maybe you are on a bad server or something?

Eh, with grenades being nerfed, at least I don’t feel quite as kitten for running a FT build now.
I like it, but it doesn’t seem like FT should be that hard to fix. There is a whole list of simple things they could do to make it less frustrating.
For those that are running FT, what sigils do you think work the best with it in terms of dps?
The first one I tried was sigil of fire? It procs pretty well do to the large amount of attacks that land. I am thinking that the top list of sigils would be bloodlust, air, or accuracy.
What do you guys think?
