Im really trying to understand the reason for adding that gear tier.
There are tooooooons of exotic skins, both for armors and weapons.
And there are… pathetically few ascended skins, and I guess more will be added, but it will probably never reach the amount of exotic skins. And a question, do runes/sigils work in ascended gear, if not thats just sick, that takes away so much from the game.
So again, what was the reasoning for adding this tier, what was the developers explanation, I had a break when it was added so Ive missed it.
I don’t really get complaining about ascended gear being added. This gear has been in the game for a while. It isn’t as if they are going to just go delete if you whine long and hard enough.
I don’t get what they really want either, because anything they could do to fix it would just anger more people than leaving it alone and staying far far away from trying it again.
Honestly, I continue to lambast the Ascended mess to let ANet know that at least some of those who hated the addition are still around. I don’t expect them to revert the thing. I do believe that continuing to talk about it is a deterrent to adding further tiers, and could possibly lead to opening up more ways to get weapons/armor than Craftgate or state lottery level RNG on drops.
People have been whining about it since the moment the first item was released. Since then, they have released more ascended gear and have indicated that they intend to release even more. I expect ascended food as well in the next 2-4 months.
The whining hasn’t deterred anything at all. The whining is getting absolutely nowhere.
I know a player who is anti-PvP because once she steps foot inside a PvP area, she basically has anxiety issues. She once said it affects her breathing, but I don’t know more than that. I once got her to play arenas in WoW a long time ago, which I think was her first actual PvP experience, but she only lasted around 10 games before quitting and saying she never wanted to do it again. We won a lot of the games even though we were severely undergeared (imagine blues vs exotics).
After finding out that world completion required PvP, she simply stopped logging in and hasn’t since then. She never asked for a refund or complained, she just uninstalled and walked away. She now saw the game as a PvP game and assumed that PvP would be forced on her in the future. For the record, she didn’t care about legendaries, she just wanted to explore the world.
Games seem to be forcing PvP more and more now, whereas it used to be clearly separated, like how PvE and PvP servers are. Even WoW is trying to force it.
I think the problem is more with her than the game. It is going to sound cold, but game developers can’t design their game to accommodate every condition that a person may have.
Sadly, leveling in GW2 is at a horrible state compared to launch. Leveling at launch was probably one of my best gaming experiences ever. However, the zones are typically empty now.
It is hilarious how many people expect businesses not to push the envelope in order to make money.
Some people have been lulled into the false ideal that GW2 is some fan game that isn’t designed to make money.

Why do pve players whine about LW in EoTM – fist of all there are now queues so you can get in anytime you want – no more “I can’t adjust it to my playtime” arguments. There are no server specifications so even low-pop servers gain same amount of people as T1 servers do. You are not restricted to playing alone. The only difference is that there are more hostile creatures – be it Legendary Bosses or players.
The two things that make PVE players complain about PVE:
1. PVE players basically have a sort of combination of fear, anxiety, and anger at competition and the idea of other players being able to kill them.
2. In GW2, the mechanics of NPCs are extremely easy to predict and avoid. This makes it hard for PVE players to go into PvP where they are just taking advantage of some poorly designed NPC that simply requires them to dodge at the right moment every few seconds.
this is what happens when good PvE players go into wvw:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCaEGzBkEuoseriously, scripted AI is better than 99% of the wvw and pvp players.
Nice video. Though it doesn’t prove much other than that Necros are pretty powerful in WvW. The only down side to playing one is the lack of ability to escape when the zerg runs up on you.
Given that this person is actually in WvW, it doesn’t really apply to anything I said. I was referring primarily to the people that would hyperventilate if they even went into WvW at all.
Spying is someone that has bought multiple copies of the game. Why would Anet discourage people from buying enough copies of the game to spy on any server they WvW against?
I can’t see why anyone would have an issue with this from a WvW perspective. 10% crit damage isn’t going to effect zergs at all. It will effect some roamers, but not that significantly since most roamers are lolconditionspam at the moment anyway.
The only reason to have a big issue with this change is if you were one of the people that built a full set of celestial ascended armor.
I got a carrion ascended ring. Unfortunately, I don’t play condition builds, so it is just sitting in my bank.

LOL, I would be mad too. Fortunately, I don’t buy cosmetics. The only thing I’ll buy from the Cash Shop are items with some significant functional value and even that is rare.
Since Scarlet is touching different aspects of the game (PvE and WvW), could that be a precursor for her being around long after Season 1 of the LS? I would hope so, since I’m pulling for her to become one of our NPC allies in the future. You know, to fight the real enemy – Ellen Kiel.
I always heard the rumors if the rare player that likes Scarlet, but I’ve never managed to spot one before. I feel like I am watching animal planet or something and they have just introduced us to a new rare species.
What gave you the impression that the WvW community isn’t interested in more maps? EotM might be a slightly different format than we had in mind but at least we’ll have more than the same two maps we’ve been playing since beta.
Not really interested in arguing or defending the overall interest in this map. I’ll just say that most people are probably more interested in Account Bound WxP.
(edited by timidobserver.7925)
We are still planning on implementing this. We’ll have more information as we get closer.
It is intensely annoying when they impliment something that the WvW community overall isn’t interested in over something that they are extremely interested in. Combining WxP should only take minimal tweaks. I don’t really understand why something so small couldn’t be done if creating an entire map can be done.
I am more interested in “a few other WvW changes” than EOTM.
Removing Zerg mechanics would be as easy as adding more capture points and making it harder to go from on to the other. As it stands, one zerg with a decent commander can pretty much hold Garrison, Hills, and Bay. Make that not possible.
If it is just a Living Story/Scarlet flavored WvW map it should be fine. For example, intead of escorting a Dolyac you escort some Living Story NPC. That should be fine.
Howver, If it is a WvW map with separate LS stuff thrown into it, it is going to be horrible.
Well, to be fair they are attacking the new map, not the “real” WvW maps, and I would say that is a rather fair compromise.
Edge of the Mists have after all always been talked about as having quite a bit of PvE in it.
WvW players need to get real. The world is about money. WvW is not profitable for Anet at all in comparison with LS. I bet that metrics will show that WvW players spend the least in the cash shop. The living story is extremely profitable to them. If you want more WvW development, you had better allow them to find a way to make it profitable by attaching a little living story to it.
If you balk at this attempt to kill two birds with one stone(profit + WvW development), they simply will continue to be sluggish on WvW development in favor of more profitable development.
Note: For those that will slam me for not being a WvW player, I am a primary WvW player with something like 700-800 WXP level between 3 characters and I hate LS and Scarlet with a passion. If you browse my post history, you’ll find plenty of posts slamming Scarlet. I am just being realistic.
Some how Anet thinks players want more Scarlet.
If you haven’t noticed, a new infinite mining pick has been released which also provides a 20% chance of sprockets.
I have absolutely no problem with infinite tools. They are convenience.
But a chance to get a material that cannot be gathered by other tools? This is P2W.
When scarlet is gone, we more than likely will not be able to get sprockets anymore outside of two sources – the node in your instance and these picks.
It doesn’t matter that sprockets may not have as high value, and that 20% is still low. It sets a dangerous precedent, however, of introducing unique, non-vanity features to future items to generate sales.
Seriously Anet, take this from your no.1 fanboy – this is not cool.
The ‘best’ compromise is to provide older unlimited tools with a similar bonus ore. But personally I would prefer if there were no bonuses at all. Just leave the animation there and sell it for 1000 gems.
edit1: as another mentioned, the other best compromise is to include other temporary picks with the 20% chance, i.e. orichalcum pick with 20% chance at watchwork
All Cash Shop based games end up doing Pay2Win at one time or another. At least GW2 minimizes it.
Poll have officially closed. http://www.gw2wvw.net/content/are-you-you-looking-forward-season-2-leagues
Poll questions Are you you looking forward to Season 2 of the leagues ?
*29% Yes
*15% Maybe
*56% NoThis is not a large sample and shouldnt be used to shoot down a season 2.
Probably less than 200 people went through the effort of registering for a site just to vote in a poll. The results to this poll are pretty much meaningless.
If someone is lifeless enough to spend hours upon hours doing that, I don’t care.
It never occurred to me, but yeh, I can say that the amount of attention given to relationships in GW2 does seem to be a bit one-sided as far as orientation goes. It kind of makes you wonder who specifically is writing this and what their orientation just might be.
I personally don’t think Sentinel gear has a lot of value on a guardian unless you are a commander. All it does is add vit, and you shouldn’t be having an issue with conditions if you are on a guardian.
If I were going to build an ascended set it would be Clerics or Soldiers.
It’s luck. Or call it RNG. I bought one pack and got the special dye. I bought another another time, and didn’t. I knew the risks, and accepted that. Some people enjoy the lottery, some do not. To each their own.
The issue with those crazy people that enjoy the lottery is that the rest of us don’t get anything because Anet has decided to just devote all of their focus to getting as much money as possible off of these lottery players.
I think your mistake was thinking that Anet cared about you making gold. You invested and you lost. Tough.
I can understand being upset. This is why I don’t speculate and very expensive items. You can lose big.
It already tells you what the listing fee is. Take a moment to check the numbers and make sure everything is right. If you are careless and in a hurry, you’ll make mistakes. People still delete their characters by accident, despite the fact that you have to type your character’s name to delete it. Confirmation dialogs won’t stop it.
People make mistakes anyway is a good reason not to have a confirmation dialog. Good job.
there’s already enough error protection in the game. I’m already annoyed that I have to confirm everytime I salvage rare items. Then there’s the BS about confirming you want to buy Icy Runestones.
If you have to confirm that you want to salvage a rare item that is going to be worth half a gold max, I can see where it wouldn’t be insane to have to confirm that you want to list an item with a worth of 2 silver for 250g and lose a ton of money on a listing fee.
A single death isn’t really that bad honestly.
At least I have Spvp solo Q, hot join. If it wasn’t for the fact that I don’t have to gear grind to be on equal footing Id have never bought this game. On a side not that’s why I don’t do WVWVW, because of the ascended gear power creep they implemented.
I always love the opinions on WvW that non-WvWers have.
Many of the best WvWers I know do not have ascended armor. Gear level has a pretty low impact in WvW. Rather than judging from the outside, go in and find a good WvW guild and find out what WvW is really like instead of just guessing.
Im not diminishing peoples feedback here,
How is going into a feedback thread and belligerently telling the guy to not play if he doesn’t like it not diminishing his feedback?
(edited by timidobserver.7925)
Sounds like a viable option, but the overall stats(minus power) will probably still be better if you go half celestial.
If you consider that ascended weps the armour also came out you will see that the casual player is being forgotten.
A casual player doesn’t need Ascended Armour/Weapons at all, as casuals don’t run higher level Fractals.
Casual players do however play wvw where the top armour is almost a pre-requisite.
Also I decide what I want or need thanks very much.
You apparently don’t WvW very much. Gear is not nearly the most important factor. I do just fine in exotic. Ill take it a step further and say that, after what is happening Celestial gear and the massive amount of time that those people wasted farming it up, there is no way that I will ever make ascended armor. I’ll be wearing exotic, and I’ll be doing just fine in it.
Hi.
I’m a casual player.
Events like Tequatl are completely inaccessible to a person like me.
Since the living story content seems to be following the same design principles (i.e., events that not even an entire server can hope to beat despite trying multiple times), I was wondering if there’s going to be any content that would appeal to players like me in the future, or whether this is all we have to look forward to?
Thanks.
This would be 1 of two updates that introduced world bosses.
When listing fees exceed 50-150g, add some kind of confirmation dialog or something. This way people won’t lose excessive amounts of gold by typoing when trying to sell something that is worth 20 silver.
Another option is to add a confirmation when someone is listing something for a price exceeding the current max price by more than 50%.
There are many ways to go about deciding when to display the confirmation dialog, but you should definitely look into adding this.

Give us INSTANCES for bosses like the Wurm. Having people try and organize Overflows is a terrible, bandaid system.
Instances have a stigma in GW2. Basically, people are afraid of elitism creep. So, many people will be against it being an instanced encounter, even though the Overflow system is worse.
Gotta love that production environment testing. I’ve been involved with a bugged run as well. I feel like a beta tester.
As stated previously, i’m already writing a long guide for staff elem, which include different possible build I’m using, trait & gear. This guide is for my guildies but will also be uploaded here as soon as it’s ready.
Sadly I’m running celestial armor and it will be nerf with critical damage rework…
Going off of what we know so far, do you think celestial will still be the best route to go? I think that maybe half celestial instead of full celestial might be optimal?
I am in favor of having all world bosses oneshot anyone within X range if the timer runs out.
-> So you want the boss to be available 24/7, with no respawn timer?
2 hours is a bit much given that you’ll want to be there 30 to 45 minutes early or even more if you are running with a popular group like TTS.
Using overflows and massive respawn timers makes doing the World Bosses way too time consuming, which is why very few even bother with Teq anymore.
All that said, I love the Wurm. I just wish that it wasn’t so time consuming.
(edited by timidobserver.7925)
Somehow, I expected to hear something back by now.
Balancing would be easier, so some nerfs wouldn’t be necessary.
I’d think balancing tanks vs dps vs healers would be harder than balancing dps with support skills vs dps with support skills. WoW’s “hybrid tax” comes to mind.
In my time playing WoW it was almost always more balanced that GW2 has been at any point since I’ve been playing it. I like GW2, but they are failing at balancing.

Favorite:
1. Community(I play on TC)
2. Open Field fights
3. Sometimes fighting over keeps if it isn’t just karma train keep swapping.
Dislikes:
1. Bad Matchups. SBI should not be against TC.
2. Lack of updates, which seem to be skipped in favor of living story due to the cash shop profit generation that comes with LS.
3. Rewards/Incentive. Discourage Karma training, by adding incentive to defending stuff.
I actually got an ascended armor box from my 110th rank on my guardian.
Have yet to get one on my elementalist after 350 ranks though…
I don’t mind not having great loot in WvW. I’d prefer it though, that upgrades used Karma instead of Gold, and that there were no repair fees in WvW, balanced with no loot drops from either players or NPCs. It’s actually not that hard to get all your ascended crafting materials purely from WvW these days because of how much trash loot you get to salvage.
The issue is that ascended rewards shouldn’t be based mostly on RNG in WvW. There should be a path to gain ascended armor in WvW that is comparable in efficiency to the PVE route.
There are plenty of instant polling sites out there that don’t require registering. Go for one of those. I can’t be bothered to create an account. Try surveymonkey or something.
Though, I can say here that I agree with everything in the poll other than the removal of PVE content. I like being able to take my character just as they are into WvW. It is what separates WvW from SPVP which exists in a vacuum. I want to continue to bring my character in a pure state, unaltered state into WvW.

So people that are not part of those “elite groups” that are doing said instanced fights should never be able to do it or even see the fight?
There is currently a grand total of 2 of these fights in the game (Tequatl and Wurm or 3 if you want to count the Marionette.) out of how many?
50?
100?
200?They should never mechanically lock people out of content, which they would if you were required to be part of a pre-made large group.
If you want to do raid content, find a group to do it with. If you don’t, go do something else. Those should be the choices.
New Video is here !
Enjoy. Got 20k HP & 3k armor with this build.
How much offensive stats did you manage to get?
Using overflows is the actual problem. There wouldn’t be an insufficient player issue if maps were filled through a different mechanic.
On the rate your support page, it gives me the option to type in a comment with my rating, but I do not see a submit button? Am I missing something?
Hmmm… that’s a good question. Let me ask one of the team to look into that.
Just wondering, did you try hitting “Enter” to see if it “took?”
Thanks for letting us know!
I pressed enter and nothing happened. I can’t find anything to interact with anywhere on the page. There is just a box and a button that allows to pick whether I was satisfied or not, but I see no submit button.
It is possible that I am just looking over it, but I looked really hard.
The issue could be solved by adding more damage that can only be avoided through armor. However, unless the rewards for such an encounter were worth it, people would just avoid it and continue doing the old content.
