GW2: Moving from fantasy to science fiction?

in Living World

I strongly agree here. I understand that we have advanced the time-frame of the world quite a bit, but that doesn’t mean we have to all of a sudden start going full on flying ships like final fantasy. I am very much into the traditional ideas of fantasy such as dragons, darkness, heavy knights, castles and the like. I hope that for one or two of the patches they will go with a darker more traditional fantasy theme.

Did ANET think about Upscaled chars?

Yea, I was immensely frustrated by this. I have a level 26 mesmer and I can do the first couple fights, but after that it just becomes impossible to do enough damage before time runs out.

I know right? AND it didn’t even have unique art for the screen!!!

After having played it for a while, I must say that I agree. The gauntlet is alright, its a bit broken but decent. The rest though is a thorough waste of resources, and a shameless grind.

IMO No mechanics on zerg bosses, why?

Its not so much the boss thats the problem, you can’t see anything that is going on in the fight at all due to spell effects and framerate. But they are working on one of those and the other isnt all that bad.

Is There a Reason for this?

WOW, I am glad I came across this thread. I had no idea they were available for karma and would have ended up wasting a LOT of gold on them. This really demands some explanation.

I recently bought the heavy skin, and was pretty shocked to see that it was a temporary item, considering it was TEN DOLLARS I figured it would be more like the achievement weapons that can be put on very easily. I am pretty disappointed that a game with a system such as the achievement weapons already in place does not use said system for the expensive gear from the shop.

I understand where you are coming from here, however for many such as myself the content is already really amazing. My brother and I play pretty casually, but we are both constantly looking for a fun jumping puzzle or champion to take down just the two of us. Often, after defeating a boss that was really fun, we are left thinking “that was awesome, too bad it only dropped a blue item that we can’t even use”. I think this is the part that the developers are starting to address, and I for one look forward to what they will do with it.

All of that said, they do need to keep your concerns in mind as they go forward here, and make sure that content does not suffer.

Removing JP or make them optional

I don’t understand how its not optional as it is….Also just don’t do them? I myself seek them out and enjoy them very much.

I hope so. The game has such a rich universe to draw from, one of my favorites and it could definitely out shine something such as elder’s scrolls if enough effort is made to make the story clear.

Game ended up being more grindy...

OP I think you need to evaluate what it is you are playing the game for. I really think a lot of your issue is one of perspective. Rather than playing this game as an addictive fix and a grind, you need to do the aspects that you find entertaining and fun to play. The rewards will come on their own.

I saw this idea posted in another thread and figured it was good enough it deserves its own thread. With most of the living story, it is very difficult to figure out exactly what is going on without consulting outside sources such as the guild wars 2 wiki. If say, an in game journal was implemented and included stories such as the ones posted on the website I think that the player base could feel much more connected.

More weapons? Sweet.

ooooooooooooooohh my god I would absolutely love some more weapon options. One of the only reasons I play my warrior is because he has such a versatile set of weapons to choose from, other than that however he is pretty dull. The idea of a necromancer or mesmer with more weapon options has me truly excited.

The real problem of Living Story? (rewards)

I agree HUGELY here. I want armor that is cool looking and meaningful as rewards. The low level game is lacking severely in this area, and it appears that much of the end game is also lacking actual reward. I understand that armor sets exist for tokens and such, but the actual act of downing a boss of some sort, or completing a particularly difficult dungeon and then being rewarded on that spot with an interesting piece of armor or weapon still far outweighs the current system.

Design Philosophy: Then and Now

I agree especially with the part about being a “hero”. The events happen so often, and are so farmed, that accomplishing one really has no rewarding feel. The same goes with fighting veterans or champions. My brother and I can 2 man a champion….and we get almost nothing for the effort, the most rewarding part is simply that we were able to do it.

Living Story needs a change in design imo -

I’m with Tad on this one. The events could use some unpredictability, and the living story is the perfect medium to deliver that experience. I can only hope that developers listen to our feedback and use it as that sort of tool rather than just another achievement gimmick.

Immersion-Where is it going?

I agree with alot of what the OP says. I personally have felt a huge disconnect with the “story” it comes across as just a huge list of achievements and no where do I find any direction other than the achievement list and starting mail.

I must say that overall as a returning player, this patch has REALLY put me off. I don’t understand the direction the game is taking, and these skins are the one cool part of the patch and yet they are impossible for a normal player to obtain.

I logged in just to comment on this. Please do not start a trend of ever increasing shoulder size and effects. One of the major draws for this game is its style, and it does NOT need to blow that by making everything huge and ridiculous.

I don’t post on the forums, but I had so much fun doing the crystal scavenger hunt that I wanted to take the time to come down and thank Arena Net for a job VERY well done. It was like playing a jump puzzle and “where’s Waldo” at the same time. Amazing!
