I think the biggest effect you see is that hardly anyone dies, well that was until the recent patch but at least no one too concerning or to make the story too gloomy i mean sure so and so died but it was obvious too a lot of people and not very ‘omg!’ and the people were careless anyway.

I don’t know but the story never really feels dark even the slightest i would even say some Disney films have way darker undertones than gw2.

Anet is working on "Stuff"

I don’t see how this changes anything from what we knew before, i mean we know they are working on “stuff” and they already told us they were working on big stuff before which affected us to no avail since it wasn’t even remotely detailed so this article tells us nothing new and you could even say it reinforces the negative fact that they are still poor at communicating their direction with the game and upcoming content.

I don’t know why Anet invited him over there i mean did they think telling a person ‘hey we are working on big stuff look how hard everyone is working’ will give us any hope or improve our enthusiasm at all especially how Anet seem to overhype things.

Now i personally do think they are working on an expansion but keep telling myself they aren’t so it doesn’t feel so long when they do release it.

My only slight complaint is how we are only talked to a small handful of people at Anet, i think it would be awesome if some of the people directly working on some of the different content actually talked to us for direct feedback instead of being funneled through other devs.

What should I expect?

In regards to what race is the best with what profession, there is none because the different races don’t have special abilities or anything. Well i mean they have a few unique skills but those aren’t really viable anyway so the only difference is in size and some people don’t take Asuras seriously as warriors in dungeons and what not.

A good thing to do in this game is to not finish all the content as fast as possible because the patches main content can usually be finished in a couple of hours so its good to have fun things to do while waiting for the next patch.

Anyway welcome to gw2 and enjoy the stay

Mounts [merged]

Big fan of mounts, reduce the amount of WP add mounts. GW2 would have kept more players and brought new ones into the game if we had mounts.

Absolute rubbish.

Hardly, I will let the genre for the last 10years speak for itself.

But mounts were created for other mmorpg’s, while GW2 was not meant for having mounts.

Were you referring to WoW? because that isn’t a genre.

Anyway, my opinion on mounts is that they were not made for this game and overall just look too ridiculous, also the fact how mounts just spawn out of no where and make things just feel awkward.

Glint's Egg is breaking/hatching(?)

vectorfox.6894

I also noticed that when i saw the image.

I don’t know what requirements would need to be met for a dragon egg to hatch but could the absorbing of magic be how it hatches?
I know some people have said that the master of peace is trying to get to the bloodstone and maybe get the dragon to feed of its magic or something along those lines, so maybe the closer he gets the more rapid its feeding off the magic and hatching. <- very loose idea

Pertaining to the quote in the image i think that the egg itself isn’t in danger but that the egg will hatch soon and because of this it will be harder to hide or protect from mordremoth, i mean he can’t wiz around with a new born dragon on his back like he did when we last saw him alive in game.

Although just because it’s obvious he is getting deeper in the maguuma and perhaps closer to mordy doesn’t mean that could’nt be what the quote is talking about. I just wanted to put a twist on the situation a bit.

Thats Anet for you. They obviously spawned them with their dev tools to make us angry.

Sure they did. However that was shot on a different server set (think Alpha or Beta testing) which doesn’t interchange with our live servers.

Someone asked one of the Anet guild members (I forget who) about this when they were in Vigil Keep once. They said any time they use those tools in the actual game it’s logged and they have to justify it to a superior, so I think it’s highly unlikely they’d be able to just spawn themselves minis. So definitely on a test server.

(In fact the only time I’ve even heard of them using the Dev tools was when the Triple-headed Wurm was bugged just after it released. Someone reported it and a Dev used them to get into the, full, map so they could see what was happening for themselves.)

I know this is off topic but i was there when we got that dev into the map, well iirc we got a couple in when amber was stuck underground, they had to close the map.

This has definitely been one of my top 3 patches ever since gw2 has been released. The story was amazing and the amount of work they have done in this patch has been phenomenal i really appreciated.

although
I think there is a little more lore-ish type things they could do. I would love to see the npc’s actually be tough in some way or use racial benefits they have like Norn changing into their forms and actually doing damage and being hard to kill instead of using swords and what not in battle, also Sylvari using plant turrets or Asura running around with golems.

Other wise, keep going on with what you are doing, its amazing!

Some of the achievements are also character based and not team based. If you transfer your boons then you fail but not the others trying for it. You could also have missed out on the facet of darkness one because you didn’t participate in the fight as far as credit goes such as destroying one of the vortexes. I don’t know for sure as I wasn’t there.

Everyone reset their traits and made sure no boons were being given out although i did notice sometimes i had might on me but definitely didn’t get it stripped. Me and another member of the party missed out on the vortex one and he definitely destroyed some of the vortexes.

With the last fight i wasn’t really there at the start of the fight because the game failed to port me with the rest of my team but i could see my team and be effected by everything i was just on the other side of the crystal.

When you say “first one” do you mean the achievement for completing the episode?

You have to complete the story first to be able to get credit for the achievements. You also must do the achievements on a character that completed the story.

The first achievement called “strength without sacrifice”, i haven’t finished the story with this character but with another. I got this achievement with the character that hasn’t finished the story. After i got it my computer froze and i had to reset, when i came back i had been kicked and when i got another group we done all the challenges but i got no achievements.

The red colour challenge, the 15 second challenge and the boss fight my team got the achieves although 1 or 2 of my group members missed out on them as well except only a couple of the achieves while i didn’t get any of them.

I think the demolition achieve and the ‘not under my command’ also didn’t unlock for me but i might go back and do them to make sure I am not being over dramatic about my achievements.

I am not sure if this an ok place to ask this but i saw some of the recent comments have been talking about the new patch so thought i may as well try.

In regards to the latest communication changes to try and be more interactive with the community; was the knowledge that some of the community was close to leaving from lack okittennowledgement also something you were aware of, i am just curious as to why this was released now and not released in a later feature pack when the community was a little more satisfied and wouldn’t mind if they didn’t get as much changes as they wanted.

now if i recall correctly you said that you usually did read the forums and knew what was going on somewhat so was just wondering if that was something being noticed or discussed.

Now in regards to its release time (feature pack 2) i do actually think it was released now to stop people from all going to the new recently released mmorpgs but i wouldn’t think that would be the case as they get a lot more coverage than gw2 at the moment because of the fact that they are new and more advertised, so going up against them now just seems like a joke.

Now i don’t know much at all about business and social trends or such so I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a good reason for all this.

I hope this doesn’t come off as a snide comment, I’m just a very curious person and like to find reason for certain events.

I disagree with a lot of the changes to starter zones and levelling but this one doesn’t bother me.

You can still buy and sell using the Black Lion Trader window and if you want to collect the items there’s a city a few feet from the traders. It’s a good idea to visit your starter city early on anyway.

Yeah about that… veterans know this. But only yesterday, when I was briefly in Caledon, we had to point a new player to where the city was. Because surprise surprise, they are now only told about that at level 10, and then only when they actually do the story arc.

Everything is so unnecessarily convoluted now. I can’t for the life of me fathom why these changes were made. The levelling experience flowed so well before… it all made sense.

It made sense to you. It actually made sense to me too. But I know people who it didn’t make sense to.

Yes. I’m sure you did.

It’s all about getting new blood into the game. Almost all games have natural attrition. People stop playing for all sorts of reasons. Those people need to be replaced by other people. This is of prime importance for the business.

Now, if you added a guild hall, which I’d like personally, that won’t stop normal attrition, it would affect people who aren’t in guilds and even in Guild Wars 1, if you didn’t GvG it didn’t really mean much to a lot of people.

But all the time the attrition would take it’s toll and eventually we’d all be standing alone in our guild halls.

All games need new blood if they’re to survive long term. Anet has said the old system didn’t cut it. I believe them.

But as i stated earlier their timing was quite bad as they were going up against a couple of mmo’s coming out in these two weeks that get a lot more coverage than gw2, i mean usually it would be ok so that you can tempt people to not buy those new games and prevent losing those players to the new mmos but gw2 is 2 years old and it really just doesn’t get talked about anymore. I go to school (final exams soon) and all my mates are most definitely not talking about gw2 but in fact one of those new games even though they knew i played gw2 and thought it was great.

I also talked about how quite a number of players were on the edge of quitting which could have been fixed by adding some end game connected features or veteran features. Also please don’t focus on guild halls too much that was just the first example that came to my mind although i will talk about it some more…. if done properly it could be so healthy for the communities attitude and view of Anet that players would be willing to wait an extra month while new player features are added now that they know Anet acknowledges them more.

They even had a break which is when quite a lot of people get bored and leave so the feature pack as most Anet announcements go had high expectations to veteran players and then they go and release something for new players. I mean sure new players are important but as the game gets older bringing in new players is harder and at this point i believe waiting a bit longer and keeping those veteran players are more important.

Sadly this small group of players leaving because of the new patch gives them more incentive to get new blood to replace those loses and frankly i am scared of this.

Not quite what the devs said. They said people weren’t staying with the game the way it used to be, and when they changed it to this way, more people continued playing for longer.

It’s not even necessarily that they needed hand holding. The changes are more than just hand holding. They also give rewards up front more often and some people like/need that.

So instead of just getting something, if it’s given as a reward (because we humans tend to like rewards), people end up more engaged.

Before weapon skills meant nothing when you got another one. It was done. This time, Anet front-loaded a bunch of rewards, even meaningless stuff, and then gave people a feel of accomplishment as they played.

It’s not the gating and learning that’s the only important thing, apparently, but the pacing and the feeling of progression.

This way people felt like they were progressing and stayed to play longer. The other way they didn’t.

Obviously Anet was trying to keep this other player base which didn’t stick to the game and this patch is reminding me heavily of something… eastern mmorpgs. I have played quite a lot these mmos and what i find similar is what these changes are imposing such as locking skills at levels instead of weapon use. Now this may be because of the chinese launch and their changes which have seemingly been carried over although they somewhat try and make it not sound like a complete copy. Some people actually liked the weapon unlocking (i know i did) because there was a thrill of “oh hey, as i use this weapon my character is getting smarter or stronger!” but chucking out numbers to reach before you can use them just breaks the immersion of what gw2 was so good at. Its actually interesting to see players who had just been playing before the patch from a week or less saying that they don’t enjoy the unlocking.

Now about your point on the rewards aspect, this i never said was bad and was actually going to say this was a high point because it just gave more free stuff, i mean like you said who doesn’t like rewards. But i believe the rest wasn’t needed and if that level locking wasn’t implemented and we only got the new rewards feature and guide it would be pretty lame.

Now i know not everyone has the same opinion but the progression they are aiming for is more restricted and less exciting i mean to progress you have to complete hearts and do the story and what not but with this recent change and i am going to use one of the most brought up examples right now which is the cows in Queensdale, I would find it hard to believe people like progressing with a lesser variety of options and less sensible options at that. The pacing is actually the fastest i have seen in an mmorpg for lower levels and gets quite slow in the 40’s and somewhat near the end, but this patch makes the pacing even faster suggesting it was too slow.

This NPE just falls on its face when you really think about it and is overall very Topsy-turvy.

Now lets say none of this were to be released and instead they introduced guilds halls or something else desired by the community, would it have been worth it more than the NPE? I would say yes and i believe the amount of joyous citizens of Tyria would agree.

Alright I have read the dev post and i am still confused. You said that the testers included people who have heavily played different rpg’s and even more importantly mmorpg’s yet they still needed a more inept early game which almost sounds impossible when other people have claimed that their 5yr old daughter played the game just fine. I know that there were also new players but then this also begs the question, would they survive in this game at end game content if learning the early game was hard enough i mean we usually ask for new more in depth content or harder content but if these people ever reached 80 they would hardly survive much of the end game content, so would that mean everything gets dumbed down? many people find some of the hard content mediocre right now so dumbing it down will drive them away.

Also with this new NPE did you expect to see as much new players coming into the game to make the time and money worth it? I mean this was introduced just as new games had been released which get a lot more coverage than gw2 right now so you would expect them to try those games out first. Another thing is that many players were boarder line quitting the game from a large variety of reasons which could have been implemented in this feature pack but instead weren’t and now they have left because of it, so the worthiness of this NPE is pretty much nil and worse since a) most new players are off playing the new mmo’s b) quite a number of players have left. Also i believe even more people are now boarder line quitting because either lack of content or even lack okittennowledgement as a veteran.

Of course i don’t know if the amount of people leaving was even that much but losing players because you think that reeling in new players would be easier or better for the game is irritating to me.
Also with how it is right now i don’t think many people who have the same mindset of current gw2 players would play the game as it stands now although a select few has enjoyed so gj on that i suppose.

I had more to say but forgot it so here is just a tl;dr version, why bother trying to get new players when your struggling to keep veterans to stay

ps. for some reason “lack of…… acknowledgement” was censored

Hi Chris!

I have been wondering for a while, since you said that many of you like to converse with us and share feedback and such, why doesn’t any of the devs or maybe staff at Anet talk with us in their free time, at home or on break, i know you all have other things to focus on but is it a policy type thing or do you just not like coming on to talk with us even if it doesn’t have to relate to what they do in their job such as; commenting in a thread about your favourite dungeon or event, versus threads asking about content being worked on.

I guess employees have to treat their own forums like their own job but seeing them converse on average player topics like another fake example; ‘need help on ele build!’

I believe (although probably wrong) that if you talked more often then every word you say wouldn’t be taken like a final confirmation or solid answer, but more like “hey that’s cool news i hope it gets implemented” or “great idea Anet!”.
Because right now anything that gets said or announced we think its definite and “omg x is being worked on!!!” although that has slipped since lack of faith.

Thank you in advance if you reply!

To be honest mounts are about the most tackiest thing you can have in an mmorpg, usually the animation doesn’t look that great and since Tyria has a ton of slopes and mountains so the mounts look ridiculous when they are on an angle standing on nothing. Oh yeah and i don’t want to see massive blobs of horses and other creatures obscuring traders and vendors with them all clipping into each other it just looks completely unrefined and sloppy.

Im not sure in thaumanova’s case but scarlet has apparently worked with the inquest in the past, but if i had to take a guess i would say she didn’t help cause the explosion as she even told the inquest that working with chaos energy was a misnomer.

It might be to the fact that the player character doesn’t speak during the personal story when in combat like Trahearne does when giving out orders, so it makes you feel like all the other soldiers and less important then him and only after when no ones around he goes, “well i couldn’t have done it without you” or something along those lines.

I actually don’t really like Trehearne too, but only for the reason that he, as a necromancer can wield a greatsword.

Actually on the topic of Trehearne and his necromancy, if he is so good that he can summon 4 flesh golems and we can only summon one, then how come he is so weak? Also why doesn’t he have at least 1 flesh golem with him in every story instance i mean 1 should take hardly any effort to bring out and you just don’t forget how to summon minions.

Also if i can remember correctly doesn’t Trehearne obtains guardian skills when he gets his greatsword? So does Trehearne just randomly drop his necromancy powers and become a guardian in mere seconds or is he from gw1 and has the ability of double proffesion?

(i know about game limits and design, but if i actually got a reason other than, “because that would break the game” that would be great)

The fight scenes would be monsters climbing on board from the sea and you fight them off and another could be when pirates attack you have to board their ship and fight them but keep a few people behind to defend against the enemy pirates boarding your vessel and then you can loot their ships for good loot when you win.

Also they make the fights really hard and server wide like the tequatl fight so theres huge numbers and if you fail you have to return back to LA and try again.

Sorry back to the topic i would think that it could be best used as a journey feature when we sail to other parts of Tyria, maybe we may even go to Cantha?

When i read the title i thought oh here we go. But hey it’s actually handled sensibly.

I think that having two in the game shouldn’t be give you that idea since if they wanted to portray their game as reality then you would see a few more then 2 lesbian relationships, now if it was such that half of the females you meet in game were lesbian then i could see the argument that its just because its hot.

Another reason is that the two relationships we do have in game are what i believe to be quite unique as there has actually been some thought into the characters instead of some 1 dimensional cookie cutter “oh look i am lesbian blah blah blah” i mean Marjory and Kasmeer do have a flirty relationship but i think it builds their character and its sort of the opposite to Caithe and Faolain who don’t have a flirty relationship which shows there not all the same.

We kind of know that Mordremoth is the name because of subject alpha’s skills names although there is nothing lore wise to get the name i believe. As Aaron has already pointed out, the minions can talk as we see in the personal story where the mouth of Zhaitan talks and other powerful minions interact with the player. I am sure some lore heavy person will come and answer your other half, but ill take a guess they were given the names by a defected dragon minion/champion like glint or an ancient race.

I know this isn’t directly law but the little conversations people in have in Lions Arch and other areas that hint about what these people may do in the future (such as the human girl and charr cub who decide they are going to join the ash legion and change the rules so that humans can join) will they ever be fully fleshed out so that we may see them in the future?

Sorry if the question is hard to read, i am really bad at wording what i want to say.

I thought something looked different with the forum placement.

It might be that this forum subject is less popular than others i am not sure. 100% agree on the Race issue though, maybe if they made a sub section for general lore for each race, but looking at it right now shows no reason for it to be under the lore category.
