You had 4 living story releases full of content/story with a nice release pace, what are you complaining about? Forgot about the story releases, the maps (also full of story and lore if you take the time for it), the fractals?

There really isn’t anything to complain about however i can see why they would be somewhat disgruntled, the raid in my opinion is dealing with much more interesting lore and even looks a lot more interesting as it gets to branch off into many smaller stories and as they are not as linear as the story we aren’t 100% sure what the next instance will contain.

I don’t raid but i do participate in fractals and have found the story there much more interesting than the main plot.

Aswell as the story having some rough early episodes dealing with the dragon and the characters going through the conflict stage there is this overall perceived large gap of quality which appears.

These problems will easily be remidied when the main plot gets more interesting and out of the slow process of setup, as well as overall improvements to enemy encounters and atmosphere.

WvW Reward ideas

Sounds like the season/tournament and reward track idea don’t need to be together, just really a time limit to do the rewards tracks much like say the dungeon ones that rotate if you haven’t run the dungeon to unlock it and do them at any time.

So really all you need to do is:
1. Design some reward tracks to give out tournament tickets, such as capture 20 keeps(not sure it’s a good idea to ask for specific tiers of keeps).
2. Open and run those specific tracks for 2 weeks every month or two, or maybe design four tracks and have them run one a week, so maybe week 1 of the month is capture 20 keeps, week 2 is capture 100 camps, week 3 is capture 30 towers, week 4 is kill 5000 players and capture 10 smc, then rotate.

It’s been established tournaments are not really a good idea, especially long term ones. I still think a one day/24hr tournament (reset being a good day since everyone in every time zone comes out for that), would be worthwhile and another way to distribute the tournament tickets.

P.S The reward tracks run on participation points not on item counts, the capture count is more like the old tournament achievements, so not sure they could make that change.

I didn’t want to make my post too long but was more thinking that the reward tracks would say need 10000 points and different activities would be worth their own amount so it would still be a bar but it would have hidden numbers. I just used examples for the weighting to complete one so SMC could be worth 1500 points but you don’t really know that you just see the bar go up a great deal.

I think when you base rewards on too specific tasks people will try and focus that and not play normally, which could hurt proper gameplay and tactics.

I think removing tournament tickets and just having the rewards inside a reward track would simplify things a lot but i don’t mind if they were still a thing.

Thank you for feedback, i only knew how the PvP reward track works.

WvW Reward ideas

Hello, i think i have come up with maybe not the best solution but a decent one that maybe you guys can improve on.

The idea is we bring back seasons/tournaments but have them automated. The seasons will last a month and the rewards are given out using the reward track system.

The reward tracks will be completed by doing multiple WvW activites such as killing enemies, taking objectives, and other events like killing dolyaks (i don’t have my own ideas on the weighting of each task). Higher tier structures would reward a considerable amount more; this would mean that completing the reward track quickly would require taking maybe 10 tier 3 keeps which would require a considerable higher amount of effort/skill then taking 200 tier 1 towers.

I haven’t put that much idea into scaling as i said above but i think it should be scaled so that the players that put a few hours in a day can complete it comfortably but it would seem tedious to those just looking for quick rewards.

Now the reward track itself will be seperated by season but won’t be removed when the season ends so people who didn’t have time to finish it because of unforseen events can put in more time next season and complete both. The Mist weapons will be the main reward as well as an ascended armour chest, also the weapon would be ascended. Other rewards could include legendary crafting materials or auto completions of pve related precursor collections as well as pve skins from the new maps that are released around that time.

I didn’t want to go too far into the rewards because i think you guys will have a better idea on what you want to have included such as raw gold or guild related rewards. So maybe you guys want to think of what would be in-between the start and end of the reward track.

This is all relient on good matchmaking though but i think it sounds like a good system and im sure you guys will have many better ideas to add as i personally don’t play WvW anymore.

Raid Normal/Hard Mode

DPS requirements and enrage mechanics are lazy design elements that create the illusion of difficulty. They should be removed – especially, as people say, they don’t really matter for experienced groups anyway. This alone would open up raids for a greater variety of playstyles and builds (including some that people consider cheese, but so what).

Once that is done, they could easily (I think, but could be wrong) add a challenge and a story mote to every encounter. The challenge mote adds the enrage back in, alongside potential new mechanics. The story mote tones down the boss health and the severity of attacks/mechanics by a set percentage (but doesn’t remove them).

Each mote is assigned the appropriate reward level.

And, with that, this would be a non issue.

But doesn’t that just remove any of the skill from it, i mean if there was no timer on the boss you could all just run nomads and have no way to fail, i mean hey i would love to run my selfish cleric ranger like i do in fractals watching everyone drop but me but it would completely take the point out of raids.

I can't make up my mind on build... (PvE)

  • A centaur white mantle, wielding bloodstone crazed magic?

I’m doubtful centaurs swore allegiance to the White Mantle, given Caudecus’s xenophobia–more likely the centaurs will be a third participant in this conflict. I personally think the one we see wielding a White Mantle staff just picked it up as a consequence of turning crazed.

This makes sense though remember caudecus was doing deals with the centaurs in one of the dungeon paths of his manor, he obviously made a deal with them whether it be power or slaves they seem to agree further.

What is Minister Caudecus' profession?

Does anyone know what his profession is? I’m curious as to what it might be.

I would assume he is a mesmer like much of the other nobels although there is the point that he wasn’t able to teleport himself out and relied on Valette Wi however he may of been conserving his power or some other reason.

If its possible i would say he doesn’t have a profession or if he does he isn’t very strong and was hoping the bloodstone would be able to cover his lack of power.

Exalted and Anomilies

in Lore

Posted by: vectorfox.6894

vectorfox.6894

We actually can’t be certain how anomalies are “created”. They do appear where ley lines are overflowing with magic, but aside from the Thaumanova Anomaly none are said to actually be created at that spot.

The Exalted, if you read this instead, as it goes into more detail, are humans who forsook their body to take on a magical entity – less of a sacrifice and more of a transcendence. They’re also killed by tearing off their mask – but what the OP is suggesting is that maybe the anomalies are Exalted who never got put into the armor. That they are “wild” magical entities.

We simply do not know what would be of an Exalted who was failed to be put into an armor casing – who does not have a mask. The Tarnished Traitor that the OP brings up lacks a mask, curiously, which I believe is what sparked the idea.

An interesting conception, but one I’d say is unlikely. Firstly, Exalted are not humanoid in appearance anymore – but are closer to serpentine, as they lack legs. More importantly, the anomalies appear closer in line with the djinn – which are effectively described as “sapient elementals” (which may explain why hopping in the Mystic Forge turns you into an anomaly). The real question in this, however, is about the ‘Shadowstone Anomaly’ that we have going.

(Also, Arden, Glint didn’t die 300 years ago. The Exalted came to be closer to 200 years ago – it happened with the formation of the Zephyrites – and Glint died in 1320, now 9/10 years ago depending on if Anet counts us in 1330 yet or still in 1329).

This is exactly the page i was on and i agree all of this is very unlikely, but i have other things that may tie them in such as them using similar abilities as teleporting and using low damaging beams however they may just be because they are both made of leyline energy.

I still struggle to find a reason to why the armour looks a bit similar to mursaat.

Exalted and Anomilies

in Lore

Posted by: vectorfox.6894

vectorfox.6894

I have been thinking a lot about the magic and what it actually is but while looking around in game i noticed the exalted have the same ley energy look to them as leylines and the anomilies.

So i was thinking what if the anomilies were failed exalted, we know they aren’t perfect since there are traitorous ones beneath tarir so maybe some failed the ritual and the people didn’t get put in the armour and became these wild anomilies.

Further; because they were failed they will have some thirst for power as they were created using bloodstone magic hence we see them when there are large explosions of energy, such as at thaumanova and the bloodstone. We see the people who were caught in the blast and people who absorbed the bloodstone are seeking more power.

Now i will talk about a somewhat related theory that doesn’t hold much water at all but i like it. The forgotten say the exalted wont be remembered so i am thinking they will perish when they are consumed by aurene to power her up as if they are like the leyline anomilies then they are pure magic which the dragons consume and we know the exalted were the resevoir for magic when a bloodstone couldn’t be used.

Really i don’t expect anything i come up with to be true but more so to give the actual lore people more ideas.

Raid Normal/Hard Mode

vectorfox.6894

I was thinking, to make raids easier to get into, instead of creating an easy mode they just introduce a vendor into the lobby that sells equipment packs that give you everything you need for a certain build/profession. So it includes armour, weapons, runes ,sigils and food with a token which puts you into an instance where you can practice against the raid boss the build is meant for and teaches you how to do the boss then on completion it gives you an item showing you completed that tutorial which you can then ping in chat to show you have an understanding and are equipped for raiding.

Each raid has a vendor and each tab is for a different raid setup so one tab might have 2 necro packs, 1 ele pack, 1 ranger pack, and so forth and to make this easier you can give the setups names so that when advertising you just put boss ……. setup …………
and then you just wait for the slots to fill up.

What did they expected when turning the game from a casual into a hardcore game
and removed everything that so much people loved .. like play the way you want
and no raids .. especially when replacing visual outfits / armor skins with costumes and
more useless armor stats ?

My guild has mostly died since HoT and myself i only login for daily rewards
now since 45 days

I wonder really if ANet has ever heared of the fact that people in the forums don’t
represent the ingame population.

And sadly that’s the issue with level 80 only areas. Where are the crowds in Orr? Southsun Cove on non-daily days or Karka Queen time? Dry Top? Silverwastes are only busy due to the loot that you can get there.

I don’t mind a tougher area but you have to be able to enjoy it and tough doesn’t mean punishing. The lack of waypoints reminds me of corpse runs in other games to get back to where I was when I died. We have adventures you can do repeatedly but they aren’t available at all times and there is no way in game to know unless you get there, or it closes too soon because you got there toward the end of it’s window. Map wide meta events that count everyone who’s in the zone for scaling purposes. Wonderful new mechanics which unfortunately can gate your progression within that map if you haven’t unlocked them yet. Virtually zero areas where you could go AFK safely while you cross a map. Sometimes nature calls, sometimes the spouse or children. An area where formal teaming is nearly a requirement where the original game was exceedingly soloable.

It’s death of a thousand paper cuts. Gliding isn’t enough to justify so many core changes that it feels like a different game. I got the expansion just before it went live. I’m running a daredevil now. I’ve unlocked Gliding I. But that’s it. I can no longer play the way I enjoy playing in core Tyria, it’s too abusive. When you don’t bat an eye fighting vets in core Tyria and get repeatedly owned by them in HoT, it’s a distasteful shift in terms of play.

I believe Anet thought that the expansion would be able to bring in and retain enough players to the point that non-soloable content won’t be a problem since people are constantly playing, however the downside to this is, is that when you don’t bring in those many players or hold them for very long that non-soloable content gets completed a lot less and when people login to a dead map they just log out which is mostly my experience especially since im playing on OCE times. They catered all the content in HoT towards large populations and high participation, when most of the content (from events to skins) requires multiple people to complete and obtain, you set yourself up for failure.

One of the things i didn’t really like was having many of the new weapon skins obtainable through the map currencies where in core tyria mobs would drop some themed weapon skins, some were craftable in a way you just had to buy the recipe from an npc with karma and buy the other materials off the tp or simply gather and also straight up weapons for karma. The maps don’t entice people to play them when there aren’t events getting zerged down quickly or joining when the climactic map event is up that gives the expensive loot and better time vs reward so you mostly find dead maps that deter players since they can’t solo the events or get the currency at a nice pace playing solo.

Good points but personally I’m a little angry because $65 Aud doesn’t seem worth the price of an expac that is going to be a lot smaller than the base game, even with the character slot added in since that should be mandatory given we are getting a new profession. Also the video (on Youtube) showing off a bit of the game and all of the ‘pre-purchase’ bonuses hyping kind of left me a bit disgusted even though i know it should be expected since its just sales strategies.

Character Slot for Heart of Thorns? [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

vectorfox.6894

It should be taken into consideration that the original core games character slots are all expected to be apart of the core game and is part of that original purchase and heart of thorns taking up one of those character slots, assuming you make a revanent and keeping in mind that its one of the big selling points of the expansion, it’s almost taking a bit of the content you paid for when purchasing the main game since you expected all 5 (not enough for each base profession anyway) to be reserved for the main game. So if you used all your moneys worth of content by filling in those 5 slots then buying regular HoT is practically unplayable as a revanent unless you dig into that initial purchase of the main game by deleting a character you have essentially already paid for.

I basically don’t get access to all of the games content which i would already own if i paid for it, its like those games that already have the dlc on the disc but you have to pay money to unlock it, i have the revanent files and stuff but can’t use it without deleting one of my 9 characters.

Sorry if i get anything wrong or its hard to read but yeah slightly unhappy =)

Even those builds that use 4 or 5 trait lines can see a benefit from the new system.

Well they would get the benefit if it was just 4 added trait points but its a different since you can only have 3 trait lines so really they don’t get any benefit and quite the opposite since it makes that build impossible.

They are just making the subsets stronger since i doubt you could have a build that doesn’t completely specialize on a type of utility skill in this new system.

Thinking about it the new system feels like a typical adventure game where you chose one of 5 diverse looking characters to go through the story with and they have a unique skills and that’s it, with maybe a few choices of choosing different skills upgrades.

Having 3 full trait lines allows access to more grandmaster traits, which are powerful and can define a build. Although it will be impossible to replicate a build that uses 4 or 5 trait lines, the access to extra grandmaster traits can really make up for it.

Giving me more power doesn’t make up for the less diversity to me. I like to feel unique and not run what everyone is running but the new trait system (if i guess correctly) will make it so the advantage for purely specializing for one utility skill type will be grossly more powerful then a build that tries to mix and match with anything. I mean obviously every trait option won’t effect utility skills but they will be more obviously optimal for them, leading everyone who specializes in lets say trap ranger, to go into every trait that gives the most condition benefits. They wont bother putting in points somewhere else for nice traits they might give condi cleanse or movespeed since they will have to give up a whole other trait line and that is just not worth it.

We can’t respec skill points. So I assume you can’t respec hero points. You wili be able to respec traits, specialisations and utility skills out of combat.

So can we unlock everything with the finite hero points or will we be missing out on stuff?

Basically how i see it is that; players builds will be focused on a specific style of game play e.g. a ranger can either be a trap ranger, signet ranger, Beast-master ranger or power ranger. These are pretty much already in game but are somewhat mixed since its hard to get a perfect build for each individual one, but with the new trait system i suspect it will be possible to get all the trap orientated buffs or all the signet orientated buffs. The stat combination, runes and sigils we use will probably be the only major difference between the players of these almost predetermined specializations and to me that isn’t enough.

Of course i can be completely wrong and specializations will be even more diverse although from what i have read/seen it seems like i wont be playing a very unique build for much longer.

My favourite part was probably the character lore section with the pictures as it reminded me of those old dungeon rpg style games where you had a monster guide with everything you have fought with information and images so this was an instant A+.

To me i thought the whole design was nice but i felt it didn’t really fit the game, i believe the more boxed and modern style only really works for sites and ui’s on tablets or touch devices. It looked nice but personally for me, I don’t spend enough time looking at the ui’s to be bothered by their design, well except for the hero panel which i thought looked stunning.

Or people could, you know, wait until something is released before raging like mad?
Should they really give us 20 different pictures to show us that every single type of player will have enough stuff to do every single day?

It is most likely already way too late to change anything anyway. The release is set to go live in a couple of days. They won’t have time to rebuild or change it in any major way. So why not let them release it and then make changes based on actual experience of the system?
If they were to make sure everyone got every single question answered they would have to write a novel for every single change they made, which people would also complain about being too much text.

It might sound negative simply because it is silly that every single time something is announce people rage like mad without having even tried it. Just look at the NPE. Before it was release it was the worst thing ever and yet when people actually started trying it most people felt that it wasn’t so bad after all.

I think the only group that wants too log in and chat are roleplayers i mean everyone else i remember who mostly just chatted in game only did it since they already had a legendary and had done all the content which to my understanding means that player base could’ve been satisfied by more playable content.

Well i guess it would be kind of nice they wrote a wall of text for people more interested i mean i look at other games and for example league of legends, for each champion and each change they write a paragraph dedicated to explaining why they went with the change, so asking for a much more in depth introduction to the new feature should come as a given when it seems like the gw2 players write ideas more in depth and longer than those blog posts.

I have noticed a lot of rage with.. well any updates including this one but this thread for example is so right in many ways and has no rage at all. It’s most likely true that they can’t change anything before the update but telling them now gives them plenty of time to think over how the changes could be better implemented.

In regards to the NPE i believe the purchasing traits is still a silly idea and since the changes i haven’t made a new character although i’m playing pvp right now and have 30+ tomes on top of my scroll to go towards an instant lvl 80.

Do we know if those pictures are actually the final version of the system though? It is also an example.

Based on the picture we got a low-level character can complete two out of three needed dailies in PvE alone. Then add to that 8 other possible ones from PvP and WvW.

It is also fully possible that there will actually be more dailies from each category available or dailies based on your character level.

One should also keep in mind that they are achievements. While this game is rather bad at actually making achievements something you achieve, the original idea is that you actually have to do (achieve) a very specific thing to complete an achievement.

The new player might not want to play pvp or wvw like the op suggested as a problem.

Plus if these images aren’t final and they do intend to add more options or different dailies for lower levels than they should better communicate that in their post but since they didn’t, this thread remains very important for dev’s to look at and comment on so we get a better understanding.

I mean what is worse, questioning a non-fully communicated feature to which has a chance to be poorly implemented to then be changed and be better for the game or letting said feature be released hoping to god that it’s good and only to find out it was everything that the post said and wait longer to get things fixed.

Sorry but your post comes of very negative in a way that your fed up with people not trusting Anet and questioning everything they do like they have a track record of disasters.

Anyway this thread is causing more good than harm for now so +1 OP

What next, are they going to give achievements for how many days you have logged in consecutively or a raffle that to enter you must log in and talk to a person. Oh wow the possibilities are endless!

This player base is like a baby that wants a particular pacifier and then when they get a pacifier they don’t want or extremely detest they just shut up and don’t care anymore and yes i know groups of people can’t be summarized since everyone is different but who cares.

Seriously i don’t think i have heard anyone ask for a daily reward system or at least not as much as other more important improvements and features. Whats funny is when those random features are implemented everyone says ‘oh, yes this is great and an amazing feature’. When really, why encourage them to keep making content they think should be worked on then what content we actually want being worked on.

End of rant and a personal view to this update is that from now until the time when i decide to quit the game or the game eventually dies it will feel like i have been playing an app game made by faceless money hungry companies desired to give you small incentive rewards that get you hardly any closer to whatever meager end you hope to achieve.

No Patch Next Week please reconsider

I can see why Anet don’t respond or maybe even look at the reddit at these times, its semi blown up with rage in the one thread, and then this thread is a bit more calmer with slight disappointment.

I would say that releasing both the content at once being episode 8 and Wintersday is good and bad for different people, i know myself wouldn’t really play Wintersday at all since its most likely going to be a 90% rehash (also a certain moba is having new Christmas stuff) and would spend all my time doing the new content instead but since there is going to be hardly any new content i probably will go play the moba for Christmas.

Now people with not much time or are having their first Wintersday would find this annoying and pressing on them so i can see why it’s also a bad idea if you were to release both content at once.

Mixed Queues are NOT good.

No, we aren’t bringing solo queue back. Yes, I am working on making sure you’re less likely to be stacked against pre-mades.

Thank you for noticing this as an issue, was just put up against a premade guild which proceeded to go 500-0 on the team i was on in courtyard. I don’t pvp very often and i would say thing’s like this is (and not adding new modes) what stop me from playing more often.
