I just wish I had my gw1 minions back – those things were genuinely scary. The minions we have now are too small and cute IMO

Sorry, I decided to give Video Pad one more try and seemingly managed to get everything working- until I tried to render it and found some of the clips missing. So, I did the natural thing and just put the resulting video back into the editor and redid the parts that were missing, but it turns out some of them are still ridiculously messed up (not appearing, appearing at the wrong time, being the wrong size or showing the wrong part of the clip) and since I already had to make compromises to get the “fix” working I just can’t repeat the trick.

Basically, I’ve tried everything in hopes it would still somehow be faster and better than moving on to a different program, but seems like I’m demanding too much – the program just can’t handle something this complicated.

Luckily I’ll have a couple of days free, so I’ll see if I can make Light Works work instead (for some reason, it only accepts clips larger than ~3GB atm..)

Simply put, I’ve been delayed AGAIN, but I haven’t been stopped!

Focus? Reaper’s touch does nice damage while also applying vulnerability. I also love the boon removal, though that doesn’t really matter when it comes to PvE

Count me in as well – I’m an EU player, and while I can’t claim to be a super competive high end necro, I would classify myself as decent.

I sorta had a forum debate about viability of minions at Guru, and we decided to settle the matter with a few friendly duels, and after I crushed multiple times first my original opponent (as a thief, an engineer and a necromancer ) and then his bunker ranger friend we concluded that minions do indeed work in 1v1 situations. However, my opponents argued that it wouldn’t work in a group situation, and since I’m not a mesmer there can’t be five of me for them to fight.

So, would you people like to prove our superiority to those who doubt the might of our undead hordes? I don’t think they are too much above our level and it would be nice to fight a slightly more organized group after all those PUGs.

So, I’ve watched a whole tutorial series on Light Works, found out it only accepts the clips that are bigger than ~3GB from me (Why? No idea..) and finally realized how much I love Video Pad.

THB I had already given up hope on VP but I decided to give it one more try, so I messed around the setting a little bit and removed all the temp files, and suddenly everything seems to work. I have no idea why, but I’m not going to ask any questions at this point. It works, so I’ll edit before it changes its mind

..Maybe it’s the different FPS? That’s more or less the only thing I can come up with at this point. Emapudapus’ and my clips work and they both have 30 FPS, while the ones from Flow and Nemesis that have 25 or 29 FPS cause the crash. I’ll convert them again and this time I’ll change the FPS as well and see if that works…

I think I’m starting to see what it’s all about – having read the patch notes they’ve tried to make generating thumbnail images faster, and by the looks of it that’s what the program is trying to do when it crashes. Now if my thinking is correct, the developers messed up and coded it in such a way that having something different than 30 FPS causes it to look for a frame that doesn’t exist which then causes the program to crash.

Nope, it also works with the charge, but the runes have a cooldown, I think around 45 seconds.

Just wait a couple of seconds after the charge comes off cooldown and it should work nicely – I actually used it in some of our all necro tournaments. I’ve been ridiculously slow, but the footage should be up soon now that I’ve finally figured out why my video editor kept crashing. Anyway, if you don’t feel like waiting it’s easy enough to test in the mists

Also, for condition removal try bringing Lyssa runes. Combines really well with the short golem charge cooldown.

Well, I’m converting the MP4 files into AVI, so hopefully that solves the crashing problem.

I suppose we’ll do Saturday then, unless someone feels like doing an extra Friday event as well. The more the merrier, but it’s up to you people. In the meanwhile I’ll do some editing magic, but I’ll keep an eye on the thread just in case

As for the streams, I’ve never tried doing it even with one channel so I can’t help you there, but good luck!

EDIT: Apparently updating into a newer version of my editing program didn’t help, still crashing every five seconds. How did I manage to do this before..? It can’t be my computer since CPU and GPU should be more than enough and I have plenty of HDD space as well as 16GB of ram I added just in case I’d need it for something like this, so the only explanation I can find is that the program simply can’t handle files this big.

The words “Abnormal Execution Problem” will haunt me in my dreams for ever at this rate

EDIT2: Apparently the program has something against MP4 files: others cause it to crash occasionally, but MP4 seems to do it every single time. Now here’s the funny part: it’s creating thumbnail images that seems to cause this. Not the actual editing but adding a small thumbnail image.

Yup, I think Nemesis is the best choice for streaming since his gameplay is good and he’s already doing great videos, but I wouldn’t rukitten (EDIT: Hurry it. Because rushing is a bad word! :P ). Starting one week later makes little difference, so it’s best we do it when we feel comfortable doing so

So, when will we be doing the next tournaments? I have nothing against slaughtering everyone today and on Friday AND on Saturday, but unfortunately it’s not possible to solo tournaments and you can’t rely on random PUGs to have a good taste when it comes to professions, so I need you people.

Basically, who can join us and when? So long as we get more than two people it’s probably doable. As for me, any of the days work though Saturday means I’ll have to take my computer with me again. Then again, I’ll probably do so anyway for editing, so doesn’t really matter. Anyway, before I ramble on too long and end up with a text wall, here’s what we have so far:

Also, I’ll try adding the finishing touches to our last games today, sorry it’s been taking so long. Moral of the story, I should never take a break from something until it is finished. I have no trouble editing all weekend once I get started, but if I stop doing it for just a couple of hours I suddenly have something else I must do first and before I realize it a couple of weeks have passed.

It doesn’t really matter when it’s my own projects, but now that only 1/3 of the footage is mine there are no excuses. Long story short, I never should have taken this long and I’ll get it done ASAP.

Unfortunately, it turns out I’ll be abroad at the time so I won’t be able to participate, so make sure you record everything!

I’ve literally just spent all weekend editing and I finally have my first ever commentated videos ready for processing

Basically, I have some random WvW clips and my POV of last session done. Also, despite wasting all weekend on my own projects, I have an exam week next week so I should be able to get the 3 POV vids out in a couple of days as well. (It might sound surprising, but exam week == more time. I get home like 3-4 hours earlier and I have no homework to do other than to prepare for the exams and a couple of hours is enough for that.)

Simpy put, I have plenty of awesome things to upload and my computer will be running all night processing it all

EDIT: It appears I am asking for too much when it comes to my recording program, it can’t handle my awesome editing. Seems like I’ll have to split my two parts into multiple smaller parts I’ll then edit together later on..

At least it no longer just says “Failed to create your movie”, now it gives me the familiar “Abnormal execution problem” message I know to be caused by the complexity of the project. For the record, while VideoPad can do pretty much everything you could ask for, something like 70 pieces for text will completely destroy it. Basically, you can do anything once but not too many times in a single project.

EDIT2: Having rendered my other video with only about 20 pieces of text, it turns out most of them are missing. Apparently VideoPad hates spelling corrections, clever side comments and strategy notes added later on, so it looks like these things won’t be coming out for a while until I figure out what’s going on here.

Still, I don’t use that much text in multi-POV videos, so at least they should be fine…

EDIT3: …And the obvious answer was there right from the beginning. There is a separate button for text and subtitles. Why? No idea, but I assume all I need to do is to copy-paste my text into the subtitle thingy and everything should work again. I never doubted you VideoPad!

One of the biggest drawbacks of a necromancer is the complete lack of an escape mechanism. Simply put, if you get into a fights, you stay in a fight, tough luck if it happens to be a 3v1. For this reason alone I’d love to see wurm turned into a one person portal.

Increase the cooldown if it’s necessary, but we really need some sort of mobility.

The biggest reason my videos take a while to get out is the fact I have little free time during weeks, so I do most of my editing during weekends. Since it usually takes a few days for me to get everyone’s footage I can’t do much until the next weekend, and as a result the videos come a week after the actual event.

So nope, I’m fine as it is, so long as you don’t mind the slight delay.

Next Thrusday it is, then, unless we do Saturday. Either way works for me, so it’s up to you.

Talking about tournies, I came up with some amazing thief strategies that just might work, and now they keep haunting me

I’ll just have to try them at some point. Any of you people play thief..? Come on, if we put down a smoke field and everyone spams cluster bomb we should be able to stack a ridiculous amount of stealth. With the mobility thieves get the enemy would have no idea where we are, until 5 simultaneous back stabs insta-down someone… Think of the possibilities!

So, it’s Thursday again. Does this mean I get to slaughter people now?

They do make a lot of difference, actually. I used to be a clicker back in gw1 so I sort of have first hand experience here.

The point is, to use a skill via keybinds all you have to do is realize you need to do it and quickly hit the key. With mouse you have to realize you need the skill, you have to move the mouse over the skill and in worst case scenario even take your eyes of the actual fight to see where your mouse is and then you can click the skill.

There is simply no way it can be as fast as hitting the key – if you’re as fast as everyone else using a mouse, you would be a lot faster if you used keybinds. On top of that it usually takes some of your attention away from the fight which is never a good thing.

I disagree on the clicker = bad player part, but there’s no denying the benefits of not clicking. Not to pressure you or anything, but it’s worth giving keybinds a try

Agreed on tab targetting. Why on earth would you rely on rng to find the target you want instead of just clicking it?

Alternatively, could you simply post some clips of you using it? You can edit out the skill bars and w/e if you are determined to keep your build hidden, but until I see the build in action I find it hard to believe it can actually bunker anything. Say, one or two tournament games would give us a good idea of what the build is capable of

As a side note, it turns out my mic is terrible. I happened to use an old partly broken school mic and it actually sounded better, so I decided it’s time to get a new one. I did a bit testing with my lovely new toy and now my speech sounds almost normal (though my pronunciation is still terribad :P)

As if that wasn’t good enough, we should no longer have any echo from my end since I went with a headset.
TL;DR: 1/5 of our audio is now a lot better!

True… but we have the tools to outlast the condition removal. If they spec for that much condition removal, outside of Thief/Ranger, they will end up losing damage, or opening themselves up for severe damage (Corrupt Boon)

Blatantly false. Necromancers do not need to be baby sat at all.

Agreed on the burst, we definitely have it.

Same on the fear – I could be wrong, but I can only come up with two instant cast CCs of the top of my head, the warrior shout “Fear me!” and our belowed DS #3 Doom that every necromancer has. Now here’s the funny part: both are fears. Since most CCs tend to have rather long cast times fear definitely has its place as the superior interrupting tool. Only daze gets even close to it yet fear also takes control of the enemy movement.

However, unless I’m missing something we definitely don’t have the tools to outlast anything. We severely lack ways of avoiding damage and we can’t outheal anything, so how could we possibly be bunkers? At best we can have lots of health and high toughness but it’s only a matter of time before our time runs out. Then again, I’d love to be proven wrong, so could you link us the magical build you’re using to suddenly make the impossible possible?

Great, I was just about to ask if anyone has any footage they’d like to share with me. So, does anyone?

Unless I fail counting below five again, so far I have 3 POVs of Thursday games (Flow’s Emapudapus’ and mine) and soon 3 POVs of Friday games (Flow’s, Mine and tomorrow Nemesis’ as well). Does this sound about right, or have I forgotten someone?

Also, if you want me to link your channels in the video description you might want to send me your channel name or link or at least a cryptic message of some kind containing the clue I need to find them :P

I’d also love to do some editing, though I’m sort of limited in terms of time. I can’t do all of it, but a video or two a week should be doable.

How big is the file you’re uploading? Big files tend to take ages, so you might want to compress it a bit, something around 500mb to 2gb is usually fine. Then again, it always takes ages, I think 1,8gb just took me like 6-7 hours

EDIT: I also believe I’ve solved the problem that caused the first attempt to edit the 3 POV video to fail: the editing program was apparently trying to save all the temporary files on my 60gb SSD and ran out of space. I messed around the setting a bit and that should no longer be the case

It turns out my 3 POV video was too much for the editing program I used – 2 POVs from the final game are missing and so are my end credits. I’ll basically have to do it again, this time first doing 2 of the games and then using the resulting video as a single clip so it’s easier for the program.

I won’t actually be home this weekend, but I’ll try to take my computer with me so I can get everything done

More semi-off-topic: the 3 POV video from last week is currently processing!

I basically split the screen into 4 sections each showing a different player’s POV except for the bottom left corner. I had planned to move the focus from one player to another by making the most interesting fight larger, but I had to give it up since I wanted to get the video done today.

Simply put, to make one of the videos larger I’d have to scale down all the others and move them slightly. With just 4 things to scale and move it wouldn’t be too difficult to do, but since I also had the name texts there it would’ve taken ages. Next time I’ll first do the texts as a separate video so it’s easier to scale and move (or I’ll just show them in the beginning and then get rid of them), but for now we’ll go with slightly less fancy editing.

Apparently processing the video takes a while (“4% Complete, Estimated Time Remaining: 06:33:28”..) now that I’m doing multiple simultaneous scaled down videos, but I’ll upload it in rapidshare when it’s done. I can’t wait to hear all the comments about Bas suddenly learning to edit when it’s posted on the SOAC youtube channel :P

try out this build (runes/sigils are important, don’t change them) if you guys plan going full MM.

To make this thread go totally off topic, are you sure about the runes and sigils? Vampirism 4 triggers when a heal is used, which doesn’t really sygnergise with Blood Fiend. I’d also replace sigils of force with something else; our damage won’t be high anyway so 5% won’t do much. Maybe Blood Lust or Demon Summoning or some other on kill effect.

Finally, I’m not sure about Cleric’s amulet here. I’m pretty sure healing power doesn’t affect life stealing, so all it would really boost is the Blood Fiend. If you took staff the regeneration might be worth buffing, but with the weapon sets chosen we have no regen. I’d rather take Soldier’s amulet since vitality increases both your health and your life force pool

Other than that it looks like a solid build, pretty similar to what I used last time except I went 30 in Death Magic and 20 in Blood

Oh, my bad. It was 15 minutes shorter than the other versions so I though something has to be missing. Turns out you were the only one smart enough to cut out the random waiting between games

Great! I thought it might work since in the second image it’s complaining about failing to download Java, so if one of the options prevents it from trying we’d avoid the error.

That’s the exact error I was getting! Have you tried both answers? I don’t remember which one worked for me but one of them definitely did. If it still doesn’t work I could try downloading skype, but since we’re having the same error it would make sense the same fix would also work.

It seems over 1 GB must be done using the manager(downloaded from tools —>rapidshare manager). Make sure you have Java installed by the way, I received an error trying to install the manager when I didn’t but installing Java first solved the problem.

As for versions the smaller file size and unedited if possible would be best. I’m thinking of trying split screen so slightly lower quality doesn’t matter that much, though I might occasionally swap to single player POV should there be an especially good fight.

I’m uploading a 2GB file, though you might want to compress them a little further. The way I did is I just joined the three files together in an editing program, messed around the settings a little bit trying to find a good compromise between size and quality and then uploaded the result.

As a side note, I’m making a (an? idk..) Yski POV video as well, but I felt someone might want to see the whole thing without watching three (four?) separate versions of the same battle. We have like 50 minutes of footage each so that’d be good four hours to watch :P

That’s like 30 hours! How big is that file you’re trying to upload? Not that uploading usually is especially fast, but that is a bit extreme.

Talking about uploading, could you post your footage on SOAC gaming’s rapidshare so I can use it on the all POV video? Since it isn’t my account I can’t really give you the passwords directly, but I’m sure Bas or Flow (or someone else?) would love to send them over
