While I understand the thoughts and feelings shared by the “QQ” side of the ranger community, I wanted to speak for the small community of new Druids, many of whom are aghast at our forums, or who are simply having too much fun in game to come to the forums in the first place.
Let me say that, while I agree there could be a bit of tweaking, I am cool with how Druid currently works.
-I am a support healer
-I spend much of the fight supporting while throwing around medium-sized heals. (A mixture of abilities/traits/awesomeness allow me to have several small heals ticking across the group at all times). ((This also goes a long way toward my AF generation))
-Then, if/when the poop hits the fan, Celestral Avatar comes out and “No one dies”.
I guess what made Druid “ok” by me was the preconception of what it was going to be. To me, Druid is a support/healer that can, when push comes to shove, drop into Celestial Avatar and really pump out major burst heals.
I could see how people that wanted to play their Druid as a pew-pew Ranger, and then pop into CA to be Jesus the healer, would be disappointed.
I find the difficulty of the new content to be refreshing.
Everything else in open-world PvE is so easy that you can run though 90% of it without even really paying attention or having a combat strategy.
I mean, isn’t this the first good step toward us getting rid of the current “everyone-just-wear-full-zerker” meta? I want to see people speccing defensively again and actually having to put some thought and effort into winning fights. Being able to wander mindlessly while watching tv may be great for some people, but it’s more fun if I actually have to pay attention to the game to win.
TL;DR – If it’s too hard, rethink your character build. Adapt and overcome.
-T
I will see if I can get some footage together and put up over the next week.
I spent this last weekend setting myself up and practicing healing.
Digging a heal-specced Druid so far.
Can’t wait to see how it performs in certain situations.
So many green numbers…
Druid specifically made me switch BACK to the Ranger as my main.
This is pimp.
Druid rocks.

I’d be willing to discuss. I, too, am recently back to GW2 and I am having a hard time finding the right community. It sounds like you want what I want.
Two things I want to touch on really quick.
As a WvW roamer, regardless of what class I play, I will always (YES ALWAYS) have a giant stack of these in my bag and I will use one EVERY time I come across a thief that is not leveld-up. Every time. Period. The cost is negated by the fact that I have an excess of the currencies required and nothing to spend them on.
The 2nd thing I wanted to touch on is a question I had about these traps. So, as a thief, I trigger one and my class mechanic is taken away for 30 seconds. Oh boy. That sounds painful!
-So, when a Ranger triggers one, his pet goes away for 30 seconds, right?
-So, when a Mesmer triggers one, his ability to summon clones and phantasms goes away for 30 seconds, right?
-So, when a Warrior triggers one, his burst skills go away for 30 seconds, right?
-So, when an Elementalist triggers one, his attunement swapping goes away for 30 seconds, right?
You get the drift…..
I can solo flag guards. I can solo supply camps. I can solo a tower if player resistance doesn’t stop me.
Hello from ET – The other team in T8. I must admit, You have quite the build and skill there then if you can do this.
In my experiences so far with wvw, there is a good chunk of the players I know that can’t solo cap a camp much less a tower. Not to mention a the problems of trying to solo a fully upgraded version of either.
But as others have said. You are perhaps just a better player, and thus you will always suffer from the limitations of the other people that want to enjoy this game along with you.
It’s all about the build really. Pre confusion nerf I could solo upgraded camps in roughly two minutes by pulling everything together. I can still do it but I have to separate the scouts now.
I could never do the same on some of my other characters, due to limitations of the professions.
Anyway, it was quite awesome knowing that you could affect the match up by 10 points every tick.
I had not considered a mixture of skill level and class/build regarding this matter. I guess I just figured everyone experience about the same as I did. I have run around as both a Ranger and a Thief and can only go by what I have experienced. Either way, making these things harder to solo PvE would prevent people like me from doing so, while it sounds like it wouldn’t affect people who were already unable to do so.
I agree, all PvP aspects should be restricted to sPvP.
I prefer WvW because it gives more leeway to min/max my character and stats. I enjoy the feeling of open world and roaming PvP as opposed to the tiny, regurgitated sPvP maps. There really is no true 1v1 or 1v2 in sPvP becomes other players always come along due to the tiny map sizes.
Those who think sPvP is where the real skill is should go roam in WvW some time and come across the true roaming PvPers out there. sPvP can’t show skill in my opinion.
But, you can think what you want to.
I hope a lot of people think like me. Rarely, if ever, do I even notice the “outmanned” buff. When I see someone mentions it in /yell or /team I usually just think “Welp…better be extra careful!” Other than that, though, it doesn’t really affect me.
You have a good point, and that makes me lean more toward making the difficulty of PvE in the WvW zones be directly proportional to the number of players in the immediate area or zone. Maybe?
I also agree that the WvW maps should be much larger than they currently are.
I also think they should do away with waypoints in keeps. There should be a penalty for dying, and that penalty should come in the form of a run that takes longer than 20 seconds.
I moved here from Dragonbrand a couple months ago because the higer servers are way too “zergy”. So far I have really enjoyed the more closely knit community down here. I just wish things in WvW awere a bit more challenging.
It is highly unlikely. WvWvW must account for the players that can participate in it, because, as a person in the lowest tier like me (I am FC) you know what it means to see an Outnumbered icon in YOUR OWN Borderlands. If you think HoD has few players in WvW, just come see the situation here.
It is then that you will account for how many people play PvE and don’t even care about WvW or PvP. FC and ET are really badly hit by that wave of players. Might help you if you check the server population too.
Haha! I know all about it! HoD is in the same Tier as you guys. It is HoD – ET – FC.
All I’m saying is it is not OK that I can solo a supply camp or a keep. How is it ok that 1 player be able to solo a keep that has a plethora of guards defending it?
You’d expect someone looking for difficulty in WvW to look to the actual players, not the NPC’s…
PvE is a part of WvW. It cannot be ignored. It is everywhere and part of many fights. I am normally a roamer looking for 1v1s and skirmishes, but I still help my team by PvEing it up.
What will the lowest tiers do then? On the lowest tiers, especially at night (for USA) there are barely like 10 active players on the map
If it takes 8 to retake a camp, 16 to retake a keep and 30 to retake a garrison, you have just doomed the weakest servers to an era of mediocrity.
I play on HoD. I also work 3rd shift. I AM the people you are talking about. I can solo flag guards. I can solo supply camps. I can solo a tower if player resistance doesn’t stop me.
We weakest servers already live in an era of mediocrity. Maybe, if they scaled the PvE levels (guards/walls/doors) to the amount of players in the Zone? I don’t know. I’m spitballin’ here. It’s just too easy and I’d like to hear ideas for making WvW more challenging and hence more fun.
It should not be possible for keep to be taken in 3 minutes.
A solo player should find a flag guard a VERY tough fight.
Supply camps should not be able to be flipped by 1 or 2 people
The health of tower/keep doors/walls, and the health and damage output of all NPC guards in WvW, should be at least tripled. This may be a good start. Maybe the guardsa at a tower or keep could scale depending the number of enemy players in the area or something? I don’t know. All I know is the PvE component of WvW feels way too easy.
Easy is boring.
Hard is fun (that’s what she said?)
Make WvW harder please.
And yet, if you go to the thief forums, it is full of thieves complaining about how terrible they are now.
I LOVE THIS….
but everyone else gets put on cooldown
I agree with OP and I AM a thief. My reasoning is that there is nothing acrobatic or finesse-like about a thief, stealthed, flailing around like an idiot, spamming his 1 key trying to land a backstab. It’s kind of silly.
I also think that things like dodging, casting caltrops, casting other certain abilities, and stomping should all break stealth. But that’s just me. I am perfectly happy stealth staking people for now.
I like it.
An alternative might be that while stealthed, pushing the “1” key costs initiative (like 2 or 3). I agree that going stealth and then frantically spamming the 1 key, hoping for a backstab, should be detrimental.
I run a 10/0/30/15/15 P/D & D/D condition build atm, focusing on duration.
No one asks for nerfs on the class they play. People who get pwned by a class ask for nerfs. I guess we see which side you are on. Feel free to post your game vids if I am incorrect.
You could find a couple vids of my ranger on youtube or in the Ranger forums. Look up GW2 Turkish Krul.
I only have 1 vid up of thief so far, but I am relatively new to it compared to the ranger. However, thief has been my new main for a little bit now and I am a beast.
I am on the side that thieves, in WvW, were ridiculously strong, have been toned down, and are now much more in line with how things should be. I had always said that thieves used to say it was L2 kitten ues for everyone else because they were jaded. Now that thieves have been normalized, they seem hard to all of the people who are either bad, or have only ever played a thief. This whole time that people have been roflstomping with thieves in WvW, the other classes had a much rougher time of it.
So, to the thieves who now feel extremely weak I say, you are NOT extremely weak when compared to everyone else. You are now experiencing what everyone else has. It just feels weak compared to what you’re used to. This is not a case of us being nerfed into the ground. It is a case of us no longer being spoiled.
Because I have months of L2P posts from the thief community since launch to back me up. I am not trying to anger for no reason. I am trying to help them understand what they were doing the whole time.
Only in today’s society could “give them a taste of their own medicine” be considered a troll.
To give one a taste of their own medicine:
“…to do the same bad thing to someone that they have often done to you, in order to show them how unpleasant it is "
Not trolling.
Teaching?
14 year old kids don’t respond to the high road. They troll on it.
The high road doesn’t work with them.
They need taught a lesson?
Umm…I don’t know how else to say it?
Is not your usual MMO. The backers (Old-DAoC) community and Mark Jacobs aren’t walking away from anything. The communication from, and transparency of, the company and devs are revolutionary thus far.
A troll is someone who cares not about truth, facts, or observances. They only seek to offend or upset people for the sake of enjoyment.
A troll I am not.
That’s cop-out reasoning.
Real world example:
If someone is hanging around outside a minimart, harrassing good people, pushing them around, knocking things out of their hands, etc… Walking away/ignoring them is not the “mature” thing to do. People need to eat their words, taste their own medicine, be talked to in a way they’ll understand. You don’t take the high road. You punch them in the mouth.
These 14 year old kids don’t respond to the high road. They troll on it. Thus….taunting.
But I am doing it for a reason. I am not acting this way because it’s me. I am a pretty nice and helpful guy!
For months, we tried to explain to the thief community what the deal was and we were met with the same trash I am spewing now (L2P).
I vowed months ago that WHEN, not IF, but WHEN this time came, I was going to come here and slap a giant “I told you so” in here. I understand that it may be offensive, or mean, but that’s is the point of it all. Don’t worry, it won’t last. But these impatient, no logic, kitten-havin’ 14 year olds deserved it.
(Disclaimer: WvW only)
Feels underwhelming due to being too strong for too long. Still very strong. Will take time for thieves to adjust skill level, play style, and attitude…
My sentiments exactly…
Dreamer = for girls
Bolt = nice looking weapon, but I don’t use swords
Incinerator = looks like a butane torch, but is pretty nice
Quip = Like dreamer, feels like we’re being trolled by Anet…
Well said, Elmuerto!
I completely agree!
I have played several other classes. I played a Ranger at launch for about 3 months. I have seen this from different perspectives. Thiefs, in my opinion, have not been nerfed. They have been normalized. The first few months, thieves ran around WvW roflstomping people.
I really, truly hope that the whole time they weren’t thinking they were super awesome or something. Someone beating you in a fight does not make you underpowered, or the other class overpowered. However, for months thieves were running rampant due to the strength of stealth + culling + incredibly high spike damage.
Fact is, the class was too strong to a large degree. Now that they have been brought more in line with everyone else, true colors and skill are showing. The whole time that people were screaming about thieves, most of the forums responses from thieves were “L2P”. I find it funny now that other classes can all tell thieves that it is a L2 kitten ue, because it truly is.
Yes, thieves have issues in PvE and whatnot. I am talking about WvW. In WvW things have finally equalized a bit.
I play a thief, and I am still a beast.
A good friend of mine is a thief. He is still a beast.
When the going gets tough, the tough get going.
The weak whine on forums, reroll, or quit…
Yeah I hear ya there. I think they way DAoC got past that was with the Holy Trinity. Tanks and healers were neccessary there in most cases. I don’t know that it could be feasibly done in GW2.
I would have been working toward, or have gotten by now, the pistol “Quip”. However, I just couldn’t get past the weapon skin and sound. I do not like it.
I think the mystic shortbow is decent looking for a darker character.
How about trakittenalking first rate players?
What do they win?
Camelot…
Unchained….
Good things come to those who wait.
other games have done it and it worked fine. DAoC…
Yeah, but in DAoC a player would get squished against the guards. Especially the keep lord.
I can solo a Lord room in GW2. Major changes would be needed in guard difficulty, then I’d be ok with it.
IMO:
-The best PvPers out there should need a little luck to take down a flag guard solo.
-1 or 2 people should get owned by the guards at a supply camp.
-Guards and Lords at keeps should have their health and damage output quadrupled.
-It should take 15 minutes to bust down a keep door, not 45 seconds.
Agreed.
The thieves whining are simply experiencing the difficulty that other classes have had to learn through. They whine because they think they are now worse than everything else, when in fact they simply realize that they were only brought down to a level playing field.
I play a thief.
I’m a beast.
That’s why I mentioned WvW specifically. I am well aware that PvE is pretty crappy on thieves. Does not change my thirst for tears!
Happens now and again. The stars align and bleh. Push through it or take it as a sign and get some yard work done. It happens to everyone now and again, and not just on thieves.
Anyone that says thieves need buffed (WvW) need to L2P. 100%
Good lord, baddies. Thieves are better than fine.
I play a thief.
Everyone who has argued or posted in a negative fashion is a bonehead. Plain and simple.
@OP Kabooky… There are MANY of us out here that completely agree with you. WvW in GW2 is WAAAAAAAAY too fast. The maps are too small, travel is too easy (ports) and most importantly it is extremely fast and simple to take an objective.
In my opinion:
-A supply camp should not be soloable or duoable.
-A flag guard should be a HARD fight solo for even the best player
-A supply camp should be defendable by a group of 5 against a zerg of 15-20 if there is sufficient anti seige.
-It is NOT ok that a fully upgraded keep can be flipped in a couple of minutes. That’s ridiculous!
2 defenders and a couple arrow carts should be sufficient for keeping a zerg of 20 off of a door. Period. Kids these days just get all emotionally twisted when things are hard.
Camelot Unchained shall be my savior….
I ended up replacing PI with Lightning Reflexes, though Signet of the Stone wouldn’t be bad for the 180 toughness now.
Some might ask, why not run Sic’Em, and my answer is, Sic’Em is unreliable against anyone with half a brain.
What about Signet of Renewal? I went this route on Turkish when they nerfed/fixed Empathic Bond.
Was my first time recording with afterburner, my camera kept getting stuck at certain points throughought and my fps was taking a dive.
1) I expect flames, build is similair to Faux’s that hes made very popular, although mine has minor adjustments here and there for a more aggressive playstyle. I like to utilize pets to spike at certain points using pet prowess etc. Been experiementing with a few things, I will post build etc later, this was done on a whim and for fun.
Enjoy.
Great video!
I really like how this build looks and the videos are great. I want to try out this build. But I have a few questions:
1. How does this build work in open PvE?
2. How does this build work in dungeons?
3. How does this build work in fractals?
4. If I would go with clerics gear instead of apothecary which weaponsets would you recommend? And why?I already thank you for your answers.
1. I don’t know, I only WvW.
2. See #1.
3. See # 1.
4. Personal preference, really. In a build like this, you aren’t really looking for damage, you are looking for utility. Keep your self alive while your cat takes care of business. The 1h sword and the greatsword both have very good utility for you. Other than that, personal preference, really. I have seen it done with everything out there.
Alright I switched to P/D & D/D and I am already liking the synergy of opening with Death Blossom much better than anything SB brought me. I have also adjusted my CD vs Condition duration a bit. I now have 101% duration without my damage suffering too much. My bleeds, once I build sigil stacks, hit for 125 and last for 8 sec off pistol auto atacks.
Also, I considered Sigil of Geomancy, but I find that Sigil of Doom is more to my liking.
Looking forward to capturing more footage and making new vids. I will be sure to try and include better footage, music, maybe some commentary and all that next time. Until then, keep the advice coming! Everything has been great so far!
Next time dont use up all your init spamming HS
You made water come out my nose…..
You can Youtube Turkish Krul and check out some of my footage roaming WvW as a Ranger. With the right build, I find that Rangers are quite good at it.
If it takes 8 to retake a camp, 16 to retake a keep and 30 to retake a garrison, you have just doomed the weakest servers to an era of mediocrity.
