My thoughts on Guardian's new GM traits.

The new guardian traits seem mostly useless or not worth taking over other GM traits.

An interesting synergy with Communal Defenses is also taking Pure of Heart so Aegis heals on removal. Couple this with Mace/Shield+Staff and Clerics gear and it might be cool.

I really wish Force of Will was a Master trait, and Purity of Body seems pretty underwhelming, too. I’m not sure it would be worth taking over Absolute Resolution or Indomitable Courage. Instead, they ought to merge Shielded Mind and Indomitable Courage into a new GM trait for virtues.

Power, Precision, Vitality
Ascended Magi trinkets; Keeper’s trinket’s, Valkyrie trinkets (berserker+valkyrie doesn’t give enough health).

Precision, Power, Toughness on armor.

Collaborative Development: Edge of the Mists

Edge of the Mists does quite a lot of good things which aren’t seen in other WvW maps. Some things I’d like to see implemented in other WvW or new maps are: destroyable terrain, better rewards, buffed NPCs (maybe only some, because I’d still like to be able to solo a camp). Another thing great about EOTM is the merging of lower tier servers into three factions, which revitalizes and replaces WvW for those servers which otherwise wouldn’t have been wvwing. However, the problem with this approach is that server no longer holds any meaning, and more importantly, communication between players is a lot more difficult, because the map is much larger and more to the point, not all players are communicating through the same means, which have been long established by now.

As it stands, EOTM is quite random compared to the other WvW maps, which isn’t a good thing for the players who want to organize. It’s difficult to work together because of a lack of communication as a result of being thrown together into the world from different servers and a lack of unified voice comms. Moreover, the random players from random servers have unknown play times, so organizing is made even more difficult, because other guilds don’t know when another guild might be on to play. There is a serious lack of consistency in EOTM as a result of how the system works.

On another note, I’d like to see two of the three Borderlands maps changed such that all three are different.

I believe this is the same issue I have. The error log looks similar enough. Support went as far as telling me to disable startup programs and services, and when I played WvW one night with those changes, I did not experience a crash. However, once I reverted those settings, my game proceeded to crash as usual. It seems that there is no real solution for this terribly optimized game.

Quite a common problem when you’re nearly full clerics. It’s essentially a bunker build.
Maybe add some soldier pieces? What weapon sets do you use?

Dedicated EOTM Roamers

Complaining about the NPCs/mobs in EOTM? Really? At least the map lacks yellow mobs for players to rally off of. They’re all either friendly or hostile, which isn’t the case in every other WvW map and that is a good thing.

It’s a very fun map so far; especially Kodan form. So many knockbacks! I’ll definitely spend my time there on reset nights and whenever the guild decides to raid there. Perhaps I’ll roam there since I may stand a chance at not getting run over by a blob since I can knock players off of the numerous amounts of edges.

Looking for PvX Guild on Tarnished Coast

I’m looking for a guild with friendly members who actually do things together regularly, such as daily dungeon running and organized WvW pushes and roaming. I’m aiming to get dungeon master, but I am tired of pugging everything, so a hardcore guild with enough members willing to run dungeons is ideal. Weekly guild missions and 24/7 guild buffs would be nice, too. However, I do not have a mic, but I’d gladly listen on mumble if requested for wvw or dungeon running.

Completing events in Cursed Shore - bannable?

Here are some thoughts offhand.

Since the update, people have been neglecting dynamic events in favor of zerging down the champions in the open world. So here’s what could be done: replace all champions in the world with veterans and tie all champion spawns to dynamic events (DEs already spawn champions if there are enough players nearby). This will put a stop to champion farming and players will have to farm events again.

Or instead of removing all of the champions in the open world, they could tie them to events and make it so adds spawn when the champion is engaged and have a cooldown for the event.

Yes! An NPC representing him ingame who tells you about lore would be fantastic. They could go even further and create an event for him and reward you with a piece of lore or a book.

A client for Linux

With Steam for Linux release, I’m finally going to give Linux a go. It’s sad to see that so many games aren’t native to Linux and all of the workarounds a user must deal with in order to get many games running, including GW2. I would not hesitate to switch to Linux if GW2 had official support from ArenaNet, sine Valve and other game companies have begun to support it. Linux is free and open source, and Windows 8 is not looking too desirable.

Why not use the "Diablo 3" Magic Find System?

I have an alternative idea taken from GW1.

Add an achievement with however much progression and a usable title at rank 1. This grants +mf% and +gf% based on the title rank ala reputation titles in GW1. Since achievements are account wide, this too would be account wide. It would work only in PvE and WvW (though be quite useless in WvW).

Since MF is not capped in this game, I think this solution would be a good supplement for MF gear and for people who only want the benefits of the title and MF food.

Perhaps ANet could add more titles like this, where one title might grant +1% vitality per level based on your toughness or something. Another title could grant +1% condition damage and duration per level and so on. Consumables already grant these boons.

Seeking PvX guild. Maguuma.

in Guilds

sphonz.3129

Hello,

I am looking for a fairly large, active guild on the Maguuma server. I enjoy PvE and WvW, so ideally the guild would be very active in all kinds of PvE content (especially dungeons) and WvW. For the most part, I play solo exploring the world and hopping into WvW zergs every now and then. My main character is a level 80 necromancer; I am currently leveling up my warrior, ranger and thief.

I have no experience with any dungeons except for the Fractals of the Mists, as many of my friends are on hiatus. However, I am more than willing to practice and learn dungeon runs. I am in the eastern time zone, but I usually play from 2am til 5am on workdays. On my days off, I am usually online all day. So the time zone is not that big of a deal, given my odd sleep schedule.

Ideally, I would like to play with the guild prior to committing, so that I can get to know the community. I have mumble, but I do not yet have a mic.

See you in-game.

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: sphonz.3129

sphonz.3129

Ascended gear is so cool. Marginally higher base stats without a usable upgrade slot! SO USEFUL IN WvW! Especially that 10% Magic Find! In fact, the exotic ring in the teaser beats the ascended ring in terms of everything except magic find because the exotic ring can have an upgrade component. Thus, the only thing ascended gear has to offer you is the most magic find possible and some more defense against specific creatures in PvE. Something that only people who enjoy farming will care about.

It’s obviously intended for PvE only, since exotics with good upgrades will be of equivalent stats (more or less). I guess I better scrap my rare level 79 magic find gear which I use to farm Orr (and everywhere else with since I don’t have a set of exotic armor)! That Ascended gear sure does put it to shame along with the few pieces of exotic armor I wasted with karma! How will I ever be able to progress in PvE in my level 79 rare armor?! THE AGONY

This is what you get for complaining that there is “nothing to do” and you still complain. I’m sure that completing the new content will be possible in exotic gear. It just will be marginally easier and more efficient to do so in ascended gear. The difference between ascended gear and exotic gear is no different than the difference between exotic and rare. Legendary items still remain equal to (now ascended items) and so remain the “best in slot”, which is in line with their game design philosophy of keeping items on an equal power level. Adding a new ascended tier of PvE armor does not break it, nor does it entail a slippery slope into a “gear treadmill”.

I hope this doesn’t mean that Legendaries will end up costing merely a few gold or that they will be easy to obtain otherwise. They are completely unnecessary items added to give people something to strive for, which takes time and effort. However, maybe adding an event inside of a dungeon in which a boss has a chance to drop a legendary or something would be fun.

Combat UI improvements

sphonz.3129

This needs to be implemented as an option. I know I have been wanting combat mode in the game ever since I played tera, vindictus, raiderz, and the guild wars 2 beta. Or at least a ‘toggle rmb/camera’ option.

Real time action combat feels more intuitive, especially if you play a lot of fps games. It also makes dodging and movement control in general feel more fluid and easier to perform. This is especially important, because movement, positioning and dodging become a critical part if the game.

Some people might say that adding RTACM would be an unnecessary waste of time and resources. To this, I say that it is not any more unnecessary than autotargeting and autoattacking, both of which are in the game, due in part to the amount of backlash anet received for not including those options in early builds of gw2. That was probably because autoattack and autotarget have long been the standard in most [hotkey/bar-based] mmos, which is not necessarily a very good reason to include them any more than it would be to not include real time action combat mode.

Additionally, RTACM seems to be where new mmos are heading, so adding the option might make the game continue to feel modern (more so than it already does), and in turn might extend the longevity of the game, or reach out to more players in the future.

If it isn’t obvious, I am very excited about this modification, but I have yet to use it, because I have been experiencing computer troubles lately. However, I generally believe that more options are a good thing to include in video games, even if I am not particularly interested in a certain option. I believe that I have sufficiently demonstrated a few good reasons why RTACM ought to be included in this game, and addressed a common objection as to why it shouldn’t be included.

Finally, the original reason the author made combat mode was to help players with disabilities play the game easier and better, which is a great reason. More games ought to include such features, but sadly many games do not cater to or attempt to help the least advantaged group involved. The only option that comes to mind is colorblind mode, which I believe is not present in any mmo, though I might be wrong about that.
Recently, I saw a video of a disabled gw2 player playing the game with only his mouth and earlobes, I believe, because he is nearly paralyzed. I am unsure exactly how he performed such a great feat, but I am very impressed.

So the question remains, “why not include it?” if enough players speak up in favor of CM, then it may well be implemented, so do your part!
