See I like this mobs for this reason, the mobs in the Lab are far more interesting to fight than most mobs and are still easy to handle. They’re far better than the boring loot pinatas the rest of the game is filled with.

Noble Count Dress "Red Pixel" bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: steelwolf.9864

steelwolf.9864

It appears that the metallic parts of the countess dress suffer from the “Red pixel” but where if you zoom out from your character all the metallic parts will turn red and the “redness” scales with how far the camera is from your character. The screenshot I attached shows the effect, I have the chain dyed black but zoomed out it appears red.

While a minor thing, I noticed this playing my character because being an old GW1 player I remember the Elementalist Asuran armor suffered from the same bug in that game.

Misleading Dungeon Armor Box Description

in PvP

Posted by: steelwolf.9864

steelwolf.9864

I write this after just receiving the final reward of the Arah dungeon track and to my disappointment the armor box only gave one piece of an armor. The reason why I thought otherwise was due to the description as follows:

“Dungeon armor choice boxes contain a specific dungeon armor ‘set’ and a specific set of stat combos.”

I recommend the word “set” be replaced with “piece” to prevent confusion.

The problem isn’t crit damage, it’s everything else. Condition damage is useless because of the 25 stack hard cap and the way it’s calculated and tanky gear sets are useless because encounters don’t call for it.

Your Mistake with Scarlet

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: steelwolf.9864

steelwolf.9864

I think something people overlook is that characters are never interesting by themselves. Scarlet’s problem is she has no personal interactions with any of the other characters. If we allude to a certain villain many people compare scarlet to, the joker would be quite a boring character without batman or the other batman villains, it’s the network of interactions that makes the story interesting. Scarlet needs a batman, the obvious choice is the player, but that would require Bioware level story design to work.

How will you name dual Sigil weapons?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: steelwolf.9864

steelwolf.9864

Two-handed weapons already have an inherent 10% damage boost as well as, generally, better skill synergy over their one-handed counterparts.

The 10% damage boost is meaningless since all the skills that use the damage modifier are tied to the weapon itself and the skills themselves are balanced accordingly.

What is ferocity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: steelwolf.9864

steelwolf.9864

Ferocity will give crit damage like crit damage does now but at roughly 10% less rate.

For example a 10% crit damage item will have ferocity for 9% crit damage after the change. It’s just a conversion like precision is for crit chance.

Mesmer Shatter builds nerfed to the deeps

Honestly, the biggest issue with Deceptive Evasion is that the clones it created often overwrote your actual useful illusions/phantasms. Ideally it would create a clone if you were not at your capacity of 3.

This is exactly how it will work. The only real nerf is critical infusion which is pretty minor.

Yes, like stated above projectiles do act semi realistically for some weapons. A way to see this is aggro a ranged mob that uses a bow and then quickly strafe side to side. You’ll see that you actually dodge the projectiles as they go to the location you would be and land to either side of you.

I recommend taking advantage of your melee range and going 30 into illusions for illusionary persona and a shatter build. Go 20 into dueling for the clones on dodge for shatter fodder, the vigor on crit passive and the 20% sword CDR. You don’t need to gear tanky with swords as well timed blurred frenzy, blocks, and dodges should be enough to keep you alive.

In Gw1, there were incentives for collecting them. But if there isn’t going to be perks for collecting them, I really don’t see the appeal.

The incentive in GW1 didn’t come until the final expansion and you didn’t even get the reward until this game came out.

I don’t know why you would expect minis to be available out in the world. The precedent set in GW1 is that the main method of obtaining minis is from gifts you would get on your character’s birthday, and that won’t happen until this November at the least.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

As a GW1 player I feel the exact opposite. Some of the complaints about end game could of been solved with a lower level cap. What if you only had to level in two zones per race and the entire rest of the game was max level content? You wouldn’t have the gripe about being forced to go to orr where the mobs are annoying and the game would feel a lot larger since you could do things in more zones and still get level appropriate loot.

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: steelwolf.9864

steelwolf.9864

This is my idea for a solution: First, revert the ascended items to exotic stat levels. Instead of making infusion slots built-in to items, make an infusion slot consumable that places an infusion slot on x gear type (rings and back for this patch). In order to make this infusion slot consumable you need a specific mat that drops in the new dungeon. This accomplishes the same objectives without increasing the gear stats and making current gear obsolete in the future.

To the people that keep saying: If I wanted to gear grind I would not play GW2 I could just go play “Game X” please go and take your bucket of tears with you. Nobody will be doing ascended gear checks besides this new dungeon, there is still 99% of the game you can do. Just like nobody did exotic checks when all the drama queens where spilling their guts on the forums about it guess what? It never happened.

“The new additions in November are just the start of our item progression initiative. We’re going to add tons of new high-level content to Guild Wars 2 in the future. As we introduce the new high-level content, we’ll also roll out complimentary Ascended and Legendary items (to say nothing of the other rewards you can earn by playing the content).” From the blog post.

This dungeon will not be the only one with Infusion, actually every dungeon released after it will require more and more agony reduction, eventually becoming necessary.

You have no idea really.

Thing is: It doesn’t matter. We were promised an easy to reach gear plateau.

They are now doing a180 on it and add a different level on top of it, mostly to appease addicted statgrinders who “have no goals” and apparently can’t have fun without getting stat boni somewhere.

Quite simply, another level of gear, regardless how easy to reach it is, is already breaking this.

Even if it’s totally super easy to reach. If that were the case, it would a)defeat the point (statgrind-nerds would get it within one day, and then the same problem exists why ascended items were introduced) and b)only be a cashgrab for transmutation stones.

It breaks the premise regardless how easy to reach it is, just in different ways.

Again how do you know it wont be easy to reach? More freaking out over unknowns.

The Anet post says they wanted ascended gear to “fill the gap” between exotics and legendaries, this clearly isn’t referencing a stat gap since there isn’t one currently. The only conclusion is they are referencing effort which means they intend to make ascended items harder to get than exotics.

I can’t see where they said they’ll have better stats.

They said they’ll add more update related items, that’s it.

Do the halloween exotics have better stats? Nope.

@above
At launch we will only have ring and back items, they’re going to add the rest of the slots as they go.

are you serious? did you not even read what Ascended items are? go read the release adn then come back. turn the lights on, and maybe have your browser turned to font 40. it’s in plain as day english, ascended stats are better than Exotic. no if, ands, or buts. They’ve even stated that it’s a new tier, and will make existing content easier for you! (meaning it’ll be a big increase on your character’s performance). Not to mention, it has alot of +magic find, which is the highest rated stat.

It’s the start of the never ending god kitten treadmill. they want to be like WoW for whatever reason despite having success with their original design.

And legendary stats are better then ascended which is also better then exotics? What is your point? Your already grinding for legendary… they are just adding a inbetween gear…. it won’t be the best in the game. Therefore the whole argument about a gear treadmill is totally debunked.

This nothing but this i dont see why people cant understand this

Currently there is no “progression” from exotic to legendary. They have the same stats. The only “reward” is aesthetic.

Now with Ascended gear, you have to grind for them, as their “rewards” are not only aesthetic but also have stat increase.

They are creating a stat gap between exotic and legendary with ascend being in the middle…… at least thats how it reads in the announcement made by Chris.

They are not. They’re adding a gap in between exotic and the new tier, Ascended. There is no gap to legendary (which will be EQUAL to Ascended with the patch), there never was. It was a problem they invented.

to clear stuff up folks (cuz the devs PR is purposely muddy), legendary = same stats as exotic. After patch, legendary = same stats as Ascended.

so dose this mean if we get our legendery we NEVER have to worry about a “gear grind” again as it will always be the equivalent to the strongst wepon?

For the patch this week, yes. Legendary will be equivalent to Ascended. For the future, who knows. (judging from other MMOs “item progression”, dont count on it.)

There was never any stat gap between legendary and exotics anyway, so the entire Ascended thing with better stats is why people are pissed. We all bought the game to get away from stuff like that since that is what they marketed GW2 as.

Exotics were basically a freebie when you hit 80. I am sorry thats the truth.

Which was the point, the intention was that the gear variable wouldn’t be a factor in this game like other MMOs.

Exotic and legendary weapons perform the same

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: steelwolf.9864

steelwolf.9864

And adding Ascended actually widens the effort gap, because now there’s another tier to work on.

I think that may be the point. Legendaries were intended to be very long term goals that took legendary effort. People got to the point where they were ready to start on that journey (and many finished it) far faster than ANet anticipated. I’m guessing that screwed up their long term goal for the game, so they are trying to fix it.

Any veteran of MMOs knows that when a dev predicts a time until the first x, they need to half it to get what will really happen. There will always people that will spend every hour of the day to get something as fast as possible, trying to appease these people is a losing battle.

You do know that currently there is no gap in stats between an exotic and legendary right? And if talking about the time/resource gap, see Jormag’s Breath/Foefire’s Power and other special skin weapons.

The misconception is in interpreting what ‘gap’ actually means- its a gap in effort/time/finances, not strength.

There are already items in the game that fill this gap, do you have Jormag’s Breath or Foefire’s Power? Look up these weapons and you’ll see they’re in between basic exotics and legendaries.

It’s deceptive of them for using a MF item, if you calculate the MF increase for stats the ascended ring has +49.4 total item stats than the exotic, meaning non-MF rings would have about this much of an increase.

@steelwolf: they already said they’re going to implement more ascended armor options soonTM, so, they’ll eventually be available. even then, unless the infusion bonuses are somehow equivalent to rune/sigil bonuses (unlikely), you still won’t be using ascended armor for anything, but, this one particular dungeon.

I would like to direct your attention to this paragraph in the blog.

“This is just the beginning. In November, we’re only adding the first level of Infusions and Ascended Rings and Back slots, so that leaves us a lot of room to build upon these levels of Item progression in future content.”

They plan to add more dungeons that require this gear and I expect them to have rune and infusion slots on the armor pieces.

and something that EVERYONE forgets:

ascended armor can’t be slotted with runes or sigils – only infusions.

you won’t be using ascended armor the fractal. i know i won’t. i’m not going to lose my rune and sigil bonuses for a few more stat points.

This patch won’t have ascended armor, just the ring and back slots, which have the gems built-in.

Actually you’re forgetting to take into account the magic find stat difference, which is the primary stat on the ring. The 7% magic find = 92 stat points from comparing exotics which means 1% magic find = ~13.1 in stats. This gives the ascended ring a total of 49.4 more stat points than the exotic.
