I had full function stereoscopic 3d, 120hz monitor and NVIDIA 3d vision but now the name plates and shadows don’t render in 3d. The option to enable 3d is greyed out now and it wasn’t before. Suggestions?
Im trying out 0/10/30/15/15 atm
I’m not sure what you are looking for on this forum. Do you want us to reassure you that playing in one attunement all the time is a viable way to play? The consensus amongst most skilled elementlists is that intelligent attunement swapping goes without saying. It’s the way the class is designed, try playing a ranger without any pets or a Mesmer without any clones. Sure it can be done but you are seriously handicapping yourself.
I always play wizards/mages. While scepter and staff play styles are more of the normal mold for MMO mages the dd is a refreshing unique change. Who ever came up with the idea for the dd set up at Anet did an excellent job of bringing something unique an very fun to play.
I know the popular build around here is 0/10/0/30/30 but I tried it myself and found it too squishy. My build is 0/0/30/20/20.
Find yourself a champion mob and practice using your dd combos and CC. I’ts all muscle memory and rhythm. Champion mobs have tons of hps so you can practice for a good long while.
You want swiftness on the cheap? Get the weapon sigil that gives 5sec swiftness for each mob you kill.
As for traits I speced into defense 30 earth 20 water and 20 arcana. I then spec into dps with my gear. I like to be well rounded.
The good elementalists have been telling the baddies it’s a L2P/skill issue but we get accused of being elitist trolls. Baddies will never admit they suck instead always cry on forums asking for more buffs. Seriously either L2p or go find another class to play. I hate how Mesmers play but I see how people can play them to good effect. If the play style fails to click with you then it’s time to try something else.
I love mine. I use the d-pad for movement which frees my left hand fingers for f1-f4 on the bottom row of the nostromo. I play an elementalist so a Nostromo and Naga really helps.
I think you can find people from other servers in the overflows. Go to Lionsarch during peak hours and hopfully you’ll be able to group in the overflow server.
Well since d/d is the best then logic follows that it kills the most players therefore will generate most of the complaints.
Go make a d/d thief and learn the sounds of the different abilities. Once you get a good feel you can anticaipate what sort of chain spam they are going into and either CC or evade until they blow their wad and then lay down the smack down.
My experience is if two very good bunkers go 1v1 it’s impossible to kill each other. I’m bunker speced and fought a bunker guardrian for 13 mins.
I just have to ask. Who is complaining?
IMO d/d is the best weapon set for elementalist. It’s also the hardest to play but in the right hands it can devastate.
1.Crappy players versus players elementalist will lose
2. Ok vs ok we lose
3. Good vs good we lose
4. Excellent vs excellent we win!
Where do you et the molten and destroyer daggers?
Yes you can plod along and kill mobs one by one faster on a warrior but as an elementalist you can gather up 5 or more and aoe all of them down at the same time. Personnely I prefer the ele method.
Seems to me one’s enjoyment of playing elementalist is dependent on play style. As many have pointed out it requires more effort on part of the player to get the same result and I agree with that statement up to a point.
You see some us don’t mind putting in the extra effort, in fact we enjoy it. Kinda like driving a manual stick shift vechical. We just like the extra control and emersion it adds to the experience. To stretch the analogy even further I would point out most high performance vechicals are manual drives. Most race cars are manual.
“oh manual requires more effort!”
If you want to play on cruise control then perhaps elementalist isn’t for you.
I’m tired of reading posts on how elementalist ought to be. It is what it is folks! Learn to deal with it and try to work with the mechanics of the class. I tired of reading a laundry list of what they need to change to fit YOUR play style. Guess what? It’s not going to happen. If thief is so awesome then go play a thief.
I just hate the mindset that if you are not doing well then something is wrong with the system. Perhaps you just can’t hack it with the APM required to play an elementalist effectively. It’s ok, ANET has other classes you can play that are more your speed.
Gaming hardware like a Razer Naga AND Nostromo are a must in my book to play a dd ele. Being able to swap attunments, use abilitys and move with purpose at the same time is key. Once you’ve elimated the physical barrier you can execute your abilities at will.
My build is 00303010. I have the water signet, arcane wave, vapor form, arcane shield and the elite glyph of elementals. With all that defense my killing strategy is to wear down my opponent. I use the cc set up my burst combos one after another.
I usually win 90% of the 1v1 fights I get into but I struggle with 1v2. I suppose it should be that way lol.
There’s a bit of a silver lining. Because there are so many thieves I’ve actually gotten a lot of practice fighting them so I kinda know what to expect. Coversely there aren’t too many dd eles out there so it’s easy to confuse the enemy with my bag of tricks.
Thieves will probably get nerf just because the numbers obviously show a player preference. Though I think Anet is doing the right not rushing to nerf.
Seems to me that more tankish builds are more capable than glass canons.
I do this all the time D/D 10/0/20/20/20

Roots seem to counter me pretty well since I rely on confusing my enemy with my insane mobility.
Leave elementalist as is. Some if us like how the class plays. I don’t get why people come on here and try to push some other classe’s mechanics. If you think engineer is better then go play an engineer. I tried out all the other classes and like the elementalist the best. Its not for everyone but I don’t insist other classes should play like the elementalist.
Protip: want to be good at attunement swapping get a gaming mouse at least. I roll with a Razer Nostromo and Naga.
If someone is trying to run away and they are out of range I RTl to them followed by a5 to knock them down. Switch to earth and use magnetic grasp and then e4.
Thanks for the tips. Didn’t know you could cast frost armor and the lighting shield while channeling.
Goes to show that even if someone posts a video of a ele doing very well inevitably someone will post their laundry list of whine.
Personnly I try to keep teleporting down to a minimum. For two reasons, save money and I come across more DEs I haven’t done that way.
They’re called money sinks and the game needs them to control inflation ie too much money supply in the economy. Every time you sell to an npc vendor and get coin you create new money. Every time you spend money that money goes to the game and not another player that money is destroyed.
You have to choose only one?
While Ele can’t weapon swap during combat you can anticipate what sort of combat you will be engaged in and change weapons accordingly.
Staff: Great for mass mobs/players greater than 6. Good for range attacking obviously and staying safe from a distance. Also the preferred weapon for dungeons. IMHO is weak on defense.
D/D: Good for soloing and sPvP or 1v up to 3 WvW. Insane amounts of dps and defense when engaged with small groups of mobs and players. My favorite weapon set.

BTW I do enjoy the class a whole lot but I realize my enjoyment of the class is dependent on not playing Twister on my keyboard.

A: I play with a regular keyboard and mouse.
B: I play with a gaming mouse and/or keyboard or other hardware.
1. Ele is UP
2. Ele is balanced
3. Ele is OP
I’m a B2, I play with a Naga and Nostromo. I would consider the class too hard to play without gaming hardware mainly due to the need to change attunments frequently via the F keys and maintain proper movement.
All other classes seem slow and boring in comparison to ele.
D/D has tons of defense just not tankish defense but mobility and stun defense. DDf3 is effectively a dodge, A3 is stun, A4 a dodge, A5 another dodge and stun, W3 and W4 snares, E3 a root and E4 a stun. You have tons of options at your finger tips to not get hit in the first place. Ele requires an active defense not a passive defense built on number crunching.
I play with a Naga and Nostromo. I recommend anyone playing an ele to go purchase a gaming mouse of some sort. If you are clickIing with your mouse cursor then you are doing rong.
I don’t feel kittened but in realize I need to put in twice the effort to get the same result with ele. Funny thing is ele allows me to put in 3 times the effort where other classes are pretty much tapped out at twice the effort. (rough estimation)
Btw I’m talking d/d. D/D is crazy strong but you have to play the class like a grand piano. Any ele worth their salt knows when you get in that zone of skill rotation its an awesome feeling. No other class comes close. I just can’t relate to the whine posts.
