why Badge of Honor give so less on wvw?

Your english is so bad that I have no idea what you’re even asking. Badges are used to buy wvw things and if you spend any reasonable amount of time in wvw to actually need those things then you most likely have accumulated a lot of them from spending time in wvw. They are mutually inclusive, ie. if you don’t have a lot of badges then you don’t spend a lot of time in wvw and therefore don’t need anything you can buy with them. Simple.

Oh and BTW… any class that has a heal does the same amount of healing. If you are an elem for example… you drop a water from more than 600 range and you add NO healing to the people that blast it. It is a baseline heal. Yes.. people who are CLOSE to you (within 600 range) get a small added bonus to the heal you apply, but only while you are in range and it is very very small. How many staff elem do you see that run into the frontline of a charge, drop a water so you get the bonus and then live? None? Thats what i thought.

So.. my waters are just as powerful (if not more powerful for the extra heal on hit and the blind of target) and i can apply that from 1200 range via staff through target heals my staff 1 and 5 wall and i can run in and drop a wellsrping that doesn’t trigger immediately unless someone is taking damage, and groups can set up attacks knowing where the heal will be by leading them to the big green circle!

You understand that frontline ele is a thing, right? My full heal set does so much healing it practically doesn’t even need to be blasted.

Also, what “bonus” within 600 range are you talking about specifically? I honest;y don’t think you’ve ever played ele enough to understand it.

I was talking about water bomb elem backline staff (which is all i see on TC) Even if you are fully traited in water and for soothing mist bonus (which is the 600 range) your waters when you cast over 600 range away, get nothing from your bonus traits other than larger fields. So all your gear/traits are wasted if your backline elem now.

Frontline is a lil different… they should be running fire and earth and tempest. Again.. if your out of 600 range the targets you heal get no bonus healing the same as everyone elses bonuses.. and it only effects 5 targets .. not sure if party or those close to you get the bonus but it has a limit.

First of all, soothing mist is 300 range and if you’re implying that it has any effect on your weapon skills or any effect other than just granting really basic and crappy regen it doesn’t, at all. Absolutely no competent ele is traiting in water for “that juicy soothing mist”, you suggesting so implies that you have absolutely no understanding of ele. Second, what do you mean larger fields? If you mean blasting staff, that trait was made baseline wayyyyyyyyyy back. And even then your large waters give regen regardless of what range you are from it. Also, if you’re running fl ele why in the everloving hell would you not run water over fire? that’s a free 15% healing effectiveness increase plus your main source of burst healing is from your auras so powerful aura is an absolute must. I think you need to learn a thing or two about the fl and bl ele meta (or just ele in general) before you start giving all this misinformation.

Reconnecting = Dishonor

in PvP

Posted by: szshou.2193

szshou.2193

The dishonor system should hold some integrity and discretion in how it’s implemented. As in: if you do something intentionally dishonorable then yes you should receive dishonor. If you disconnected by the fault of your ISP or firewall and still wish to continue the fight and are able to get back into the fight and help your team, that is definitely honorable. Dishonor as a punishment as it is now offers little reparation to the victims of the offending player anyway. So what if they can’t queue again for 15 minutes? The chances (in primetime) of you getting them as a teammate again are extremely low and even then, you’d still have the option of dealing with them 15 minutes later, which is just the length of a single match. Either way, why should you care if the person who intentionally left the game and didn’t play, doesn’t get to play? That’s like punishing a kid by telling them to go to their room full of toys and video games.

What's the point of blocking salty players?

in PvP

Posted by: szshou.2193

szshou.2193

Take a note out of Blizzard’s playbook and have an “Avoid this player” option next to the “Block” option. It doesn’t have to be an omnipotent, be-all-end-all option in determining match-making, if the avoided player is the best fit or only fit for a spot on your team or the other team then then they should be allowed that spot. Also, the whole “matchfixing” argument against that option is a double-edged sword, because if you avoid all the good players then you also lose the option of getting those good players on your team.

Bilateral forfeit when abandoning in ranked

in PvP

Posted by: szshou.2193

szshou.2193

It happens so often that it’s a huge problem, at least for me. One player on my team or the other team leaves and doesn’t come back. I know that you don’t lose any pips if there’s a leaver on your team but often I have no pips in my current tier when it happens so the only thing the match amounts to is a colossal waste of time. It’s not fun and there is no alternative or way out without getting dishonor yourself, which is also not fun. I realize it’s just a game, but that’s just it, games are supposed to be fun. As an easy alternative, I suggest that if there is a leaver on your team for more than 3 minutes (a generous amount of time to re-log and get back into the match if you actually just d/ced, or to get on another character) then the match is immediately forfeit for both sides, no one loses or gains any pips and the offender is subjected to dishonor just the same. This would let people get back to fair 5v5 matches faster without having to go through the motions of pretending to try to win when in reality the morale loss is so great that it might as well be 5v0. Especially given that a ranked win should be awarded for skill, not guaranteed outcomes. This would also eliminate any type of matchfixing where an offending team tries to sync queue times to put one of their men on the opposing side to leave right away for an easy win. Some may say I’m being salty but I’m saying all this only in the spirit of fair play. If it’s 5v5 and my team still loses, so be it, just my two cents.

EDIT: As an afterthought: I’m sure there are some situations in which the team of 4 will beat the team of 5. In which case the matchmaking algorithm should be used in determining whether or not the match should be forfeit. If the MMR determines that the team of 4 has a greater than 75% chance of losing then the match should be abandoned.

Also, I don’t know what you were doing while you were there, whenever my guild raids in wvw i end up filling up all 160 slots in my bags multiple times during primetime, there is an INSANE amount of loot. Server lag isn’t a simple fix, it’s something that improves by having more resources and processing power available. As for gimmicks, I completely agree, WvW is already Siege Wars 2 so adding deployable cannons and repair hammers just worsens the problem. What I don’t understand is that things like living story and raids are intended to challenge the player’s skill and strategic mind, whereas WvW is just a mindless ktrain or sit on an AC and press 1 and rake in the bags. The only skill to be found in WvW is in “open-field” fights where landing damage on moving targets, anticipating your enemies’ movements, positioning yourself so you don’t die/give yourself an opportunity for a good bomb, knowing when to regroup, push, or retreat. All of these things are challenging yet it is the single most downplayed thing about WvW and it’s almost a joke how many people avoid fighting like the plague. Anet is basically just going full ‘no child left behind’ act on WvW and it’s pretty sad.

TC easily outplays JQ and BG in NA primetime skillwise (often having 10.0+ kdr on a map with 2 of the server’s best guilds on reset) but lacks in coverage slightly in NA but more noticeably in Oceanic and SEA timezones. TC has maybe 2-3 very small guilds in OCX and 1 (even smaller) guild in SEA whereas both JQ and BG have massive blobs in both oceanic and sea. It’s a coverage war, that’s all. If TC were to open again and get guilds in those timezones then we’d easily be able to take first place or at least put up one hell of a fight for it.

The game really just isn’t optimized for RvR gameplay. If you look at DAoC you can see that the character details were very minimal and it was very low-res (more-so a product of it’s time rather than optimized) and this provided smooth, albeit not pretty, gameplay even in large scale fights. Even on best-performance settings with disable effect LoD turned on the servers cannot handle 200~ people casting skills and the sheer amount of cross-player incoming/outgoing damage/healing being thrown around. If I had to hazard a guess, it’s somewhere in the tens of millions of calculations per second just process a snap-shot of the fighting, add to it: textures, skill animations, trait and other modifier interactions like food and boons. Oh and not to mention the random generation of loot dropped. There are tons of factors needing to be processed in such a small amount of time that the server just gets clogged with data. Data packets are received and sent slowly causing skill lag or even worse, the packets are lost completely causing rubberbanding. If the game were more dedicated to such a game-mode then there would be more resources available to make the gameplay smoother.

the REAL iconic villains of GW2 will be Dhuum, Menzies and Palawa Joko. 2 of these have already proven to be far more dangerous then the Mursaat and the 3rd has far more potential then even the Kralkatorrik or the sea dragon.

You’re mentioning villains whose stories have already played out and are completely removed from the GW2 lore. Joko is sealed beneath Elona, and us ever going there again in GW2 is EXTREMELY unlikely due to how far away it is from the central tyria areas, many of which are still unexplored like the woodland cascades, blood legion homelands, and the blazeridge mountains. Menzies was last seen in the realm of torment and who knows what happened to him after Mallyx was destroyed. Dhuum is also similar to Joko, he was sealed back in the hall of judgement by Grenth’s reapers.

None of these villains have any foreshadowing of ever coming back, unlike Lazarus (it’s even in his name ffs) They are all too far removed from GW2 lore and as far as anyone is concerned their stories are told and done.

Lore Q&A

in Lore

Posted by: szshou.2193

szshou.2193

I have a weird meta-ish question:

What is the explanation for how/why mana (energy in gw1) was removed? I realize that not having to manage mana makes the game more fun to play and gains a wider audience. But is there some sort of lore that can accompany that change in mechanic? For example: Was there some sort of magical enlightenment, most likely asuran in origin, that allowed Tyrians to access the “Eternal Alchemy” to gain power for spells rather than rely on the energy in their bodies?

in Lore

szshou.2193

Great post I love the mursaat and they’re probably in my top 5 favorite game villains of all time.

I think if there’s anything we can glean about his role in the gw2 story will come from the 10-year-old foreshadowing from when Naveed faced him in gw1’s “The Justiciar’s Revenge” quest. Just to refresh everyone’s memory, from the wiki:

Lazarus the Dire: “Pitiful humans. My brothers are dead, but I will tolerate your existence no longer.”
Justiciar Naveed: “Wait! It is me you’re after, Lazarus. There’s no need to harm these people any further. I…I surrender to your will.”
Lazarus the Dire: “Surrender? That was never an option. Your only choices are death and…death. You are a tool that has served its function. Your usefulness has ended. Disappear, now, from this world.”
Justiciar Naveed: “Goodbye…”
Lazarus the Dire: “What…? What…is this? Something is wrong! My power twists upon itself! What have you done to me?”
Lazarus the Dire: “Accursed human! You have done this to me! I will not forget this!”
Lazarus the Dire: “Countless generations will suffer for your actions this day!”

The “countless generations” part is a bit unclear; whether he is referring to generations of humankind or generations of Naveed’s bloodline is inconclusive. If it’s the latter then we can expect a new ally, that of Naveed’s direct descendant, to join the lore. If the former then it opens up more possibilities for which direction his revenge will lead him.

Also, at the end of the quest we hear Glayvin say, “That creature, the one you called an Unseen One, possesses such frightful power. It is removed from the pattern of the world, but for how long?” Says that the mursaats power is removed from the world, but as the name Unseen One implies, they can remove themselves from the mortal dimension, existing beneath the skin of the world. So it’s unclear if there are other mursaat in hiding that could come out and rally behind Lazarus, which would become quite a huge threat.

Before the Seers sealed all the magic of the world into the bloodstone to starve the Elder Dragons and it broke into five pieces, splitting magic into four disciplines (Aggression, Destruction, Preservation, and Denial), the mursaat slunk back into hiding and were unaffected by the separation of the schools of magic. This means the mursaat can use magic from every school and are, effectively, every magic-wielding class in gw2 rolled into one. This makes a single mursaat a massive threat to even a large organized force. They can utilize the large-scale damage-dealing spells of an elementalist, the massive crowd-control and denial skills of a mesmer, the focused pressure of necromancer attacks, plus the dedicated healing and enchanting abilities of a monk that are no longer known to the world of gw2. Obviously, this makes him a perfect raid boss. I also feel like this makes him a contender for one of the main villains of the next expansion. Not only is he an amalgam of all the potent magic of the world but he wields the rending power of spectral agony, the ability to summon Jade constructs and, most importantly, the cunning to dominate and manipulate the weak willed. Now, if there are any beings in the world that have a shattered will, no master, and no purpose it’s the Mordrem. It is a bit far-fetched to think that he could sweep in and recoup the losses of the slain Mordremoth, but it would be interesting if he could extract and manipulate Mordremoths dragon essence (I mean, beings of malice often share quintessentially evil energy, so why wouldn’t they be compatible?) from the remaining mordrem and imbue it into himself or an army of white mantle.

One last thing. To me, what makes a good villain is something that is all-emcompassingly evil. Something that is overwhelmingly powerful but also cunning and cowardly. Over confident enemies like Mordremoth are, quite frankly, easy to predict. You can always count on a megalomaniac to draw out a battle and inevitably lose rather than strike fast and with desperation. These enemies are boring and lack depth. The Elder Dragons were dormant, not feeling hate or fear or jealousy in all their millennia of stagnancy. They’re just sort of lawful evil without true determination or purpose besides hackneyed “world domination”. If there were something that could really add an edge to the gw2 lore and player experience it would be something so ominous and terrible as an ancient mursaat with centuries of vengeance burning inside him.

Why you should vote AGAINST shared DBL/ABLs

in WvW

Posted by: szshou.2193

szshou.2193

You’re obviously clueless to the state of wvw right now, all the bigger fight based guilds in T1 (which make up the majority of NA prime atm) are getting seriously bored of the game and a lot are quitting. The vote has extremely little to do with caring about PPT and ease of defense, it’s about changing up game flow and adding something interesting. Plus a lot of people in these guilds hate the desert borderlands (as the vote reflects) and the sentiment “You suffer 50% of the time. Your server does not suffer.” is EXTREMELY wrong because many players these big guilds will not hesitate to just not play at all when DBLs are up and your server will suffer immensely as wvw during this time will be a ghost town, more than likely one server more than another and that will artificially change glicko ratings. Also, do you even know what “quarterly” means?? “making the game-mode less fun to play for a week”…… more like 3 months buddy, so for 6 months out of the year wvw will be unplayable for a LOT of people, that is a huge mistake and will most likely kill wvw even more. If this happens it will be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

make wvw purely guild based

in WvW

Posted by: szshou.2193

szshou.2193

Or….. standardize and officiate GvGs so WvW fight guilds can get a proper stage to let their guild shine, rather than just let pugs leech off their fights and get bags and make ungrateful comments when guilds tag down. It doesnt even have to be GvGs (as that scene has become completely toxic that even GvG guilds dont want to play anymore) maybe just some sort of KDR & Warscore scoring chart that keeps track of guild-wide kills/deaths/objective captures and rewards those who are superior.

Guilds are the reason wvw isn’t completely desolate and they deserve more than just a pat on the back and an emblem on a keep. A guild’s renown in wvw consists of absolutely nothing more than being a forced good samaritan distributing free buffs and tactics. Allowing guilds to form alliances and build unstoppable fighting forces and being allowed to take pride in their achievements is little to ask considering how much they give out for free to everyone else without asking for anything in return.

The fall of JQ

in WvW

Posted by: szshou.2193

szshou.2193

JQ has been artificially propped up by the T1 wall for quite some time. Now that the wall has been broken JQ is simply falling into its natural place.

See, this is the kind of poorly done [ONS] pvkitten that I described in my previous post. Any World that loses 8 or so Guilds after the leak, then gets locked a week later by the Dev’s, is going to have performance issues. As I said in my reply to the OP, all we can do is kick back and enjoy the next 3 months.

btw… [ONS] you and YB still couldn’t win a week until after HoT dropped. Our moral on JQ and most of WvW never recovered after it. Guild’s disbanded, players left the game, and players left the mode. Now players are transferring about just to try and find some resemblance of WvW past. You yourselves are transferring about and trying to find any fun left in the game too. So don’t throw stones at anyone else for having a hard time finding fun in a post HoT world (vs world) (vs world).

Are you weak in the upper-story? You think JQ dropped because it lost 8 guilds? Good joke. JQ dropped because they reset the glicko rating volatility, JQ had very low volatility from its long stretch of dominating T1, it was so low that the massive increase in RD (when it started to lose people and guilds to inactivity) didn’t really matter because the server was still stable. When it was reset and JQ was judged as if it were 2012 again and all servers had an equal chance to shine, they performed poorly compared to the other top 6 servers and didn’t quite make the cut, that’s all. Now TC and FA are eating up all of JQ’s rating and they probably won’t recover. JQ is worn out and hasn’t deserved T1 for a long while considering the quality of its players and guilds.

I was in WvW and I realized that my Dolyak Signet was off cooldown but the icon was not on my buff bar, I was not getting the extra 180 toughness either. So I tried it on all signets and sure enough none of the Warrior’s signets reapply their passive buffs once used and off cooldown. This is a bit of a disappointment since I was looking forward to using doly sig in WvW since it had its cd reduced.

Astralaria... 62+ days of time-gated madness

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: szshou.2193

szshou.2193

Seems to me like Anet is trying to simulate the grind for when people got their first legendaries when the game first came out. The key difference here is that when the game first came out, finding out the recipes and ingredients and the journey to make each of the components was fun. Waiting 62 days doing nothing is not fun. This is an asinine attempt at recreating that first time experience. I understand that Arenanet feels that getting a coveted piece of new content such as a legendary weapon should mean something special when it’s accomplished, and it makes sense. But all I would legitimately feel after completing something that tedious and time consuming is, “That wasn’t even worth the effort” The only thing you really get out of all that time is a pretty skin, and none of the new legendaries particularly stand out from any of the others. Maybe if the new skins made me physically gasp because they were so overwhelming looking then it might be worth the effort; but to me, Frostfang looks a lot cooler than Astralaria.

I remember glint’s voice from guild wars 1 and i do realize she’s meant to sound like a withered old lady but I don’t think it was a good idea to put that climax-esque cry in while channeling her. It seems very out of place and awkward. Maybe if she spoke some dialogue while channeling like Shiro does (“I demand you release me”, “Together we have no equal”, etc.) it would be a bit more fitting. Glint seems to me like a harbinger of wisdom and compassion, so a primal warcry does not fit at all. Plus it’s kittening creepy.

Broken/bad necro traits/skills

in Necromancer

Posted by: szshou.2193

szshou.2193

Not really a trait or skill, but I have to gripe about the death shroud activation mechanics, if you rapidly tap it to enter ds there is no cd once you are in ds to go back out but there is cd on going back in. The consequence is very battle changing especially in spvp, I will try to save my life by freaking out and hitting f1 (usually more than once) and go in and out of ds immediately and have a 10s cd and be dead in 2s. (I don’t use Unholy Sanctuary because I don’t trait into Death Magic and even then I feel there are more useful traits).
To me it’d be more intuitive if there were a small cd on going back out of death shroud seeing as if you go into it it’s usually to mitigate any further dmg to your hp and to eat the remaining timers on any condis and ofc the dmg and utility of ds. I personally use it until my life force is gone or until i’ve killed everything around me, so the idea of being able to leave ds immediately after going in it is a non-issue and it’s even more of a burden than anything when it can change the outcome of a match in the enemy’s favor.

Eventually, if everyone leaves, then he’ll end up getting a: “Sorry, there aren’t enough players to open an instance. Instead, you’ve been taken in a queue. Your instance opens in 109:45:29 hours, please be patient.” message instead.. :D

You people flatter yourselves. It’ll take many more than the number of whiners in these forums to have a meaningfully negative impact on the future of GW2.

Says the guy with a 6 hour forum presence. It’s ok if you are new here but calling people whiners who genuinely care(d) for the game is just [deleted due to content]. More people leave the game without saying a word compared to the forums. Have fun new guy.

Oh I know. Many more people are upset than are represented on this forum because…

This forum isn’t representative of the entire population of GW2 players!

You think maybe that these whiners (Yeah. I went there…) are overestimating their ability to damage a game that doesn’t even have a monthly subscription fee by picking up their ball and going home? Good riddance!

And by the by, if I talk about whiners and you take it personally, perhaps you should ask yourself why. If you think I need convincing that the whiners feel like they cared for the game without regard for the fact that they bothered to play in the first place, aren’t you insulting my intelligence?

Shazam!

If you haven’t played GW1 or GW2 since the beginning you wouldnt understand how much ANet’s watering down of the game has affected everyone’s morale and desire to play. If you can’t even name your pet, or die in the tutorial instance, or make sense of what’s happening in the ending of the personal story, or access most game content until you hit a certain level it completely destroys immersion and makes you feel like the devs are laughing at you while rolling around in a bathtub full of your money.

With new MMO’s coming out or going into beta such as Archeage or Black Desert don’t be surprised if people leave GW2 by the truckload. NEVER underestimate the power of word-of-mouth; especially in a game that gains momentum through friends joining and playing together. If the devs continue on their path of self-destruction by: Not having Q&A testing, being extremely vague about upcoming releases, and devaluing the player experience to the point of loss of continuity and isolation of new players from genuine game mechanics, then this game will be dead before summer 2015. More and more people from my guild are disappearing even during times that are supposed to make the game thrive like patch days and WvW tournament season. It’s all due to how out of touch the developers are with the actual game, the sad thing is they probably don’t even know where they went wrong, hence the “adopt a dev” ploy so they can actually see what they’re doing wrong (I hope it works). If not then I’ll probably jump ship too when a game I prefer comes out. Which, by the looks of it, will be sooner rather than later.

I’m going to have to put a temporary cut-off line right here guys, I apologize but I just so much work in addition to this I don’t think I can keep up if any more requests come in! I really do appreciate all your comments and requests. I will honor every request above this post so don’t worry (although it may be a bit more delayed than I would’ve hoped).

Thanks a bunch and happy holidays everyone!

lol I paint digitally at 500 dpi bc of the flexibility and range of detail and control you can have or use a bigger brush :P I don’t do anything smaller that gets all pixels when I zoom in for details. this is from a graphic design background as well for print and just rescale smaller when needed

I hope to get in a piece for this :O should have enough time

I also have a graphic design background and I don’t know what program you’re using but even with Photoshop set to use 5gb of ram as processing speed it still renders brush strokes slowly and I find it irritating.

Oh god I never get tired of the kitten censor xD

But working in 300dpi the only issue I have is that the pixel density makes the brush strokes struggle to render in real-time, it gets a bit laggy. I think 150dpi would be a good compromise, it looks great in print and is easier to draw in.

Of course this is all for the sake of digital painters, preparing a traditional version for 300dpi is super easy, just tweak a setting or two in the program before letting it scan.

Sounds like fun :) I should warn you though that it’s a bad idea to change the resolution from 72dpi to 300 if it’s already done. All that will do is increase the image and file size and make it lower quality rather than higher quality. In anticipation of wanting a high res winner you should require all entries to be in 300 dpi

To clarify, if someone were to prepare 72dpi image for printing purposes they would need to completely redo it in 300dpi, unless they wanted it to be really blown out and blurry.

I have a feeling you’d want to go to Arena.net (the website) directly and look up contact info for careers and such… This forum is just for fan art/videos/music/etc.

I think I’d file it under a line-art portrait, it’s too low quality to justify charging the same price as a full color portrait.

Hmm, that’s a good question! Lol, I’d call it a full color sketch. That was really just a color experiment with my sylvari thief, it’s more like a practice attempt to see how i could implement full body color effects from a weapon animation or skill. If I were to do yours like that it’d be more like the quality of the second to last one but with a custom color palette.

Haha, thanks for the compliment. I don’t have much of a reputation here, so it’ll probably be a good while before I get a bunch of requests, can’t wait to get started again though :)

Here are a few things I’ve been working on in my free time as commissions from friends or just for myself.

I’ll add to the list as I finish more.
