I’m back at my university and some progress was made. With a change in location came a message with an actual error code on it
Error: 42:1000:7006:854
Build: 16748
For a moment I thought I was actually going to play the game. No, the problem is not my school’s network I was able to login an play no problem here before

You’re not alone, there was something in the recent update that screwed up the game. The game usually does work. I wish there was some advice I could give you but I’m at a loss as well, although my issue is different but a lot of people are having difficulties as a result of the update a few days ago. I’m taking the wait an see approach hopefully they’ll fix it.
Cleanboot didn’t work either.
I suspect bufferzone is blocking the connection or maybe your firewall.
Try disabling them or running in cleanboot mode to test. (see Part 1.1 or 3.3)
I disabled both and it still didn’t work and I didn’t make any major changes to my system recently. I’ll give cleanboot a shot and see what happens. The game was working fine earlier and then it just wouldn’t run.
It’s not his firewall, I’m having the same problem. It’s not his drivers either, or heat, or any other dime store tech advice. There’s something wrong with the client. It may not effect everyone, because we don’t all have the same setups, but it was working 10 hours ago and nothing in my settings or PC has changed. Just going to have to wait until it works. I’m sure when enough people complain, it will be dealt with.
I suspect this is the case as well.

I’m having this problem as well

Thanks for your reply, but I can assure you I have plenty of space on my hard drive. I have over 100gb free. I’m reasonably sure my hard drive is healthy, this laptop is only a year old. I suppose there is no harm in running a disk check on the next bootup. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5733Z-4813 running Windows 7 64-bit.
Because of the lack of connection to the server, I can’t even re-install the game. With the exception of crashing in Lion’s Arch the game was running fine earlier.
Looks like my problem is most likely related to this, and I can’t even reinstall the game now.

Ok, I tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling the game but I get the same error. I double checked my firewall settings and the guild wars 2 client is allowed through the firewall. I tried shutting off the firewall and it still won’t go through.
I tried reinstalling from the disk, but it still won’t update. The only security software I have running on this computer is my firewall, bufferzone, and Microsoft security essentials. I shut off the firewall and bufferzone and it still didn’t work.
edit: One more thing, it did appear to fetch updates and then it stops then I get my update failed error.

Your mother’s IQ is so low, she keeps trying to divide by zero.
Earlier today, I had some problems traveling from overflow to main in Lion’s Arch and this crashing occurred twice consistently. Now when I try to log into the game it is having trouble recieving the updates apparently. I’ve tried adding repair at the end
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -repair
and it apparently didn’t detect anything wrong and I get the same error. There is nothing wrong with my internet connection either.
Wouldn’t let me edit my post ><
I think McAfee is being trigger happy. I tried downloading two more programs and it complained. BitTorrent and Sandboxie it had a problem with, and when I scanned with MSE and virustotal both programs came up clean.
At this rate I’m going to uninstall site adviser if it is going to keep crying wolf, and I’m using a fresh Win7 install
edit: D’oh, needed to enable cloudfront on noscript, now I can edit.
I got this as well when I was downloading this. Microsoft Security Essentials says its clean, and when I uploaded it on virustotal only trend micro has a problem with it. I’m reasonably sure this is a false positive

I’m with skullfaerie on this one it is necessary to have character death, after all this game is a story about war. People die in war, so a lot of people are going to bite the dust. Although, I wish Tybalt was still alive, I miss him Q_Q
The charr are savages, the humans are human, the sylvari are hippies, and the norn are drunks. Clearly, we are superior by default!

There is also a flag near the lower left-hand corner of the message click that and then scroll you should see a box where you can type in your reasoning for the report and then you can submit your message.
I’m on the side banning both parties. When I play, I earn my gold through legitimate farming and selling stuff. I have no sympathy for gold buyers, if you really want to buy gold pay for gems through the in-game store and sell them on the market. Anet gets your money to support the game and you get to be lazy. Both sides win.
If you buy from a gold seller you are supporting spammers and botters. No sympathy what-so-ever from me.
I second Dying Infinity, hunt down renown hearts or if you are starting to feel bored with your starter area move onto another one and get a change of scenery. It is also a good idea to spend some time unlocking some skill points.
I don’t think this is a bad game, but I agree with everything here. They should have done more to tie the three arcs together, even if they had to take another year or two to do so. I’m not going to bother repeating myself so here is a link of what I thought the little things they could have done to tie the arcs together more.

Joining the orders felt pointless to me, when I joined the Whispers I was expecting to do more espionage and infiltration based missions. What they could have done was have our future recommendations of what to do be based on what order we joined beforehand.
For example, if someone joined the vigil the player would be more likely to recommend the pact take a direct approach. Or if you were in the Priority you would recommend acquiring or using an ancient artifact. With one choice being an action from another order, after all sometimes the best choice isn’t the one from your order. There is a reason why the pact was formed.
Too many disposable characters agreed. I understand at some point they would need to tie everything together, but not at the cost of essentially erasing everything we have done before.
ANet could have kept us busy with the Nightfall storyline of the beginning of the rise of Palawa Joko and Ebonhawk being built. I don’t think too many people would complain about the delay, maybe some grumbles and moans, but as long as they kept us busy with updates I think we could have waited.
I love the Asura because they are so freaking funny and a breath of fresh air. I have one of each of the races, but I feel the most drawn to my Asura. All the races respect physical strength and heroism, but the Asura values intelligence and curiosity. I feel in love with them in EotN and when I heard about gw2 having the option to play as another race I knew I was either going to be an Asuran or Sylvari. I had my cake and ate it too, but the Asura is funnier. The Sylvari are too hippish for my liking. Now that I think about it, I wonder how Eric Cartman would react if he found himself stuck in Sylvari territory.
Being an Asura gave me an added bonus of an excellent excuse to be a smartass. Should I ever bother to buy another slot, it is totally going to be an Asuran. We are the master race and have giant Golems to do our bidding.

I had this problem with a guild mate as well, and we had other problems. He somehow teleported into a pole (he’s a thief) and couldn’t get out. He eventually did get out by letting himself die.
We had to restart the mission in order to get the last ship to spawn. I suspected that it was because 1) I killed ahead while he had to respawn and my kills somehow didn’t count or something, he was the party leader, 2) if the glitch was because of killing the enemies too fast for the game to register, 3) or perhaps it was a combination of the two. I’m starting to think it is the second one.
Sorry for the double post, but more has come to mind. Even if your home friends really must not be your partners. Just seeing them and giving them a line of dialog such as, “Your accomplishments have inspired me to join the pact. Even if Trahearne is the leader, your friends and family at home have not forgotten you.” This would do much for hammering the point in that your home has not forgotten you even if everyone else has.
What would have been more appropriate that instead of the leader coming with us, why not give us some mini—or subordinates would be more appropriate instead of having Trahearne seemingly micromanage us. I think some of the hate is uncalled for and Trahearne has become the whipping boy, but nothing that better writing couldn’t fix. Just downplay him next time, and show us that we have not been forgotten at home.
It would be nice if they posted more of what they had in mind for Utopia such as the plot and the backstory of the new land. Their isn’t much known about it, and we can only speculate from the concept art
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Utopia
I think they made the right choice to go with gw2, since 1)adding two more professions and more skills would be extremely taxing on the team’s ability to balance out the game, and 2) they were right there is only so much they can do in the world of gw1.
I’d love it though if they would have someone write a book on this campaign, even if it would not be canon to the main games. Never going to happen though, but I am curious as well
I think engineers could work well for the Asura, but more fitting if you chose the College of Statics since they are the Asura equivalent of civil engineers. I second Saxon, just because Asura society is more magical doesn’t there aren’t those who seek to understand the physical world or appreciate watching their enemies explode.
Or watching projectiles penetrate their enemies. I can imagine that there are some questions on one of the College of Statics exam that involves calculating the proper height and velocity for a projectile to penetrate the skull of a skritt and how far it is lodged in the skull. I wouldn’t know though, I’m a College of Synergetics alumni.
As for why you should make an Asura, we’re the master race. Why wouldn’t someone want to join us? >:P
I’m not going to go through the whole thread so here is my opinion.
I don’t think the main problem is necessarily Traeherne himself but the writing for the last part and the hype they built up. Obviously, the ending branches would have to merge together at some point for the sake of consistency, otherwise this game could easily become too convoluted for the team. However, there was more that they could have done.
If Trahearne must be the leader then they should have at least provided hints about him for the other races. Such as the order recruiters mentioning him. Clearly, if the Order leaders respect him he must be accomplishing something and fairly well known. There is no need for hero worship, but maybe little snippits from the areas he may have went to from npc’s if you talk to them maybe say something about him being useful with…something. Just anything so when we see him we would have reason to respect him as an adventurer.
I think in the last arc that Trahearne is too in the player’s face. In GW1 we had Ruric, Togo, and Kormir. They were introduced to us at the beginning of the game and it was easy to acknowledge them as the player’s leaders. Also, they were not as much in our face coming with us all the time. Instead of Trahearne coming with us why not introduce the player’s buddies as joining the pact and becoming our partners. It will 1) add to our homes life, and 2) keep Trahearne out of our faces. Was it really necessary to have him come with us to check on the lumber and the resources when he the leader has better things to do when preparing for the battle. This would have been the perfect time to reintroduce us to our home friends.
The main thing that started to turn me against was at the end of the quest of “Marshaling the Truth” during the fear of being dishonored by allies. When it was made clear that I didn’t purposely order my troops to fire on the pact was when he said that he was the target. Bullkitten, the mesmer tricked me, I was the target. In fact, I was the one who got the Orders under the pact. Just little things like that started to grate on my nerves. I can understand the player not being the head honcho, just a little more respect would be nice.
Also, I noticed my Asura isn’t acting Asuran anymore after she got inducted into the Orders. The most blatant example was when we were entering the temple of Grenth in Abadon and an Asuran said something along the lines “for you nongeniuses…” Why didn’t my Asura fire back with something along the lines of “Excuse me, but I am a respected alumni of [college].” No Asura would let a slight to his/her intelligence stand!
You guys have made a good game, but I think you guys hyped things up a little too much, same problem Mass Effect 3 had. With that said, I also think you could have done more with wrapping up some details.
