That’s how I distributed my trait points.
My main reasons for this are:
1. I like the skill that come with skirmishing the best.
2. I like relying my pet.
3. I like having hitpoints.
How’s about you guys/gals?
Thanks Chilly for the Qz tip. I thought it was part of the trait tree, explains why I couldn’t find it.
Orr is definatly seeing my pet tank less, but still my pet mostly tanks. If any one is interested, my traits are 0/30/0/20/20.
Hate to ask, because it reveals me to be a newb, but, what is qz?
it doesnt rly matter if have points in BM or not its about how the pet acts and theres soemthing weird after the last patch
Maybe what you say is true, I can’t say. But, I think it must help(?) putting points into beastmastery if only because they do more damage/crit? Wouldn’t that help them keep agro, at least to some degree?
I have an 80 Ranger and use Polar bear / White Moa pets. I am 20 points deep in beastmastery and my pets DO tank for me about 90% of the time.
I almost always let them get the first shot in. I HAVE noticed that they tend to tank less in Orr…
PS: This is all anecdotal evidence, but pet tanking in general has not been an issue.
I get the Bacon Lettuce Tomato part… but what’s the ‘C’? Cheese? Because that sounds really good.
@ Arsenal:
QFT.
That having been said. Forums can be fun! What the kitten else am I to do at work 40 hours a week? WORK?!?!?!?! HAHAhAhA. I think not.
I farm Orr for two hours a day, If i luck out and get yellow’s i can put them on the AH and they will sell. Usually i make anywhere from 20s-1g. That being said traveling to the area’s i need to and then check for dragons each day i net a loss of -50/60s. So every day i may come out ahead by max 30s. Something is wrong there.
This.
Gold sinks (aka taxes) are way, way too big for the little money we make.
10 trips between Cursed/Frostgorge/LA are already worth 50s.
Add another 20 teleports for 2.5s each = another 50 silver.1 gold spent a day in just teleports. And this assuming you only port 30 times.
If you play normally (no farming) you WILL go bankrupt.
30 teleports a day !!!
That’s your problem right there. How many hours are you playing a day that you teleport 30 times?! That’s just crazy. No wonder you’re broke.
I will say this. There does not seem to be ANY inflation going on in this game. That is an mmo first for me.
Considering this, the amount of gold one needs to be totally outfitted in exotics isn’t so bad.
@Rook:
Not sure what you mean by ‘I wish i could say it was better. I really do.’
I only mention xfire because ‘other’ game forums do. I don’t know enough about statistics to say whether or not xfire is a good sample or not. It is interesting to watch though, just from a curious gamers pov.
I must be lucky because I have not had any of the negative issues I see other people talking about.
I always get atleast 1 other person to help out w/ DE’s in whatever zone I’m in. I have only come across 1 broken heart, but I was still able to complete it, although it did take me a while. I’ve seen some bots, but they have not affected my gaming experience.
Making $$ is difficult though…
I’m broke too. I bought 3 exotics when I hit lvl 80, and now I have about 2g after a week of very casual play.
Good thing I enjoy the game, otherwise I’d be kitten about being so broke.!
Can’t believe no one has mentioned Xfire yet…. GW2 is the #5 game on xfire.
I mostly use axe/torch so I havn’t noticed an SB nerf. I only use the SB when I’m fighting a single target, or a target surrounded by yellow mobs that my axe would hit accidentally.
I’m glad I havn’t played other classes otherwise I might be bitter about a nerf to my favorite class, the Ranger.
Side note, have a 45 Guardian that, to me, isn’t as much fun.
Rangers can use pistols? I’ve never even seen a pistol in game…. I must L2P?
I don’t agree. Well…. I’ll explain. I find the WHOLE pve experience pretty easy, EXCEPT for the 5 man dungeons… Those things are difficult.
IMHO, the # 1 priority for ANET should be MORE level 80 zones… that would pretty much put this whole debate to rest.
I didn’t play the beta. If I had, I would definatly feel jipped. That’s a pretty big change to make.
That having been said, I can only reiterate that I DO make money in lower level zones… just not as much as in the higher level ones.
I’ll just add that i harvest too… so
I would like to add, that even w/o the Zone completion ‘prizes’ I still don’t loose money when I go back to lower level zones.
I do however still get Heart Rewards… so I’m not exactly sure what would be the net if I didn’t have them..
I will look into it tonight though.
If rewards do not scale to your level, cost shouldn’t either. This I totally agree with.
I recently reached lvl 80. I have been going to lower level zones to get map completion.
I don’t know what most of you are talking about. I’m not loosing money… I’m still making money, but at a slower pace.
Not sure if you folks are dying constantly or what’s going on… but I’m NOT having the same experience at all.
I like underwater combat w/ my Ranger. I polar bear/jelly or polar bear/shark . Like the harpoon gun… really I do. I like the graphic of the piranah attack. I think they do under water right all around. No breathing meter is very awsome. The locals are varied and beautiful.
I’m not terribly critical… so.
I love underwater combat, sometimes I find myself screwing up because I think I’m closer/further away to something than I actually am lol
I play a warrior and switch between speargun and spear and I find it fun.
It IS hard however, if your against a champion solo, forget it.
I too experience some depth perception issues. Can’t get a good handle on how close I am(redundant). Makes looting a mini game.
I enjoy the underwater combat…. I like how it takes place in a 3d enviornment, shark pet is kool, the visuals are nice as well.
I like the change of pace…..
I’d like to see some kind of player housing. Crafting of those houses would be even cooler. Maybe they could make a zone w/ nothing but player housing? Or some kind of instance in a city where you have a house or an apartment…..
I would also love more zones, and horizontal leveling, not really more and more leveling, although I could live w/ more leveling too.
I agree, but I spent $120, I bought a copy for a friend, because apparantly, I have to buy friends nowa days.
I think when he’s sick of playing my 7 year old daughter would be totally kitten thrilled to play along w/ me on my wifes mac. She LOVES all the pets my Ranger has. Her favorite is the hound.
I’m really enjoying my time in GW2. I have a 59 Ranger and a 45 Guardian. I LOVE the Ranger.
My play style is super casual. I literally just walk around the game world killing what’s in front of me, doing hearts/vistas/poi as they appear, DE’s when I see them.
Got cooking upto 308. I really like to ‘eat’/craft magic find foods. 22% mf!
What would really put this game over the top for me is some kind of player housing….
Ugh. I struggled w/ the long bow for many many levels before I realized that it’s almost always trash. It does have SOME use, but man, that weapon needs some love.
My SB has 45% to cause bleeding on crit, so I pretty much am in love w/ it.
Been toying around w/ what’s best for my Ranger and axe/torch & short bow combo is what I came up with.
Here’s what I do in most fights:
I start w/ the short bow, fire the poison shot, the cripple and stun. Then I switch to the axe and torch, fire the multishot, and light the mob on fire. The order changes depending on the number of mobs… but generally, it pays to use BOTH weapons.
The only reason I post this is because it dawned on me, there is a reason why they give us 2 weapon slots that we can switch on the fly. I played all the way up to level 55 before I took advantage of this.
I’d pay real $$ to change my in game hair. My daughter created my character and I’m not too thrilled w/ the hair choice. There is a green head band that is clashing w/ the rest of my fasion choices.
ps. is this post going to get deleted too?
Thinking about ‘all’ the games I’ve played this year, I think that GW2 is a front runner. I’ll even throw in a beta.
Played D3, yukko. Playing TLII, is good, but I enjoy GW2 more. Played POE beta, this one I like a lot, but since it’s beta, I guess I don’t think it’s in the running. Was BF3 this year or last? I can’t even remember…. but again, I like GW2 more. TERA? yea right.
I think GW2 is a viable choice….
Second thoughts? Yes, yes I do. I wish I would have known on my first character to choose a more neutral colored hair accessory.
About the game? No, not at all.
I would just type “^^this^^” but I’ve recieved a warning from moderators for doing that in the past.
So… I will be verbos:
I totally agree with your post good sir/madam. I too picked a hair accessory w/ much color bias. It’s a green head band. It tends to clash w/ every other fasion choice I make. I truly wish I had picked a brown or ebony for the hair band. Now I’ll have to wait till
Anet allows me to change hair styles, which I would gladly pay some gems for.
TLDR: this
I’m still having a blast. Granted I havn’t reached lvl 80 yet…
I havekitten Ranger and a 45 Guardian. I love the Ranger, the Guardian not nearly as much, but still is kool.
I’ve been aboard MANY mmo’s at launch. I can not see how this launch can be viewed as anything but smooth. I guess it comes down to personal experience. I was hacked right after the RIFT launch, that soured me to that game pretty badly.
I’m not much for end game raid type stuff. I used to raid pretty hard in EQ1, but that was before I had kids.
I’m really enjoying the ride. We’ll just have to wait and see about end game, but I’m not too concerned.
2 gold between 2 characters. one level 45, the other 54
Okay, I’m happy for you?
Your post is only slightly more meaningful than mine.
That’s a total bold faced lie. I love reading the forums(I’m a mascochist). I sit at a computer 40 hours a week at work reading this, and various other game forums.
Truth be known though, I wish I had never started reading game forums. I started reading game forums during my time w/ SWG.
Game forums, "You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.”
Most people playing video games don’t read them. Thank goodness. Ignorance IS bliss.
I enjoy GW2 despite reading the forums. I havn’t felt ANY of the problems people list here… That doesn’t mean they are not an issue for those who HAVE had problems.
What it does mean though is, the people who do NOT read the forums, who are also not having any issues, are also really enjoying the game.
I think part of the problem is that most mmo’s, that I’ve played anyway, are just glorified rps. Theme park games.
They are not living worlds that can sustain life.
SWG was a living world, one could ‘exist’ there, not just play a game there….
I’ve seen some gates you can open, and my daughter found a couple of doors you can open in the Human starting area….
I love to read game forums almost as much as I like to play games, and you’re right. EVERY forum, w/o exception is full of complaints and disgruntled players.
I’m not saying that every game is perfect, because, obviously they are not. But, most of them are fun in their own way.
I rank GW2 as my 3rd favorite mmo behind SWG and EQ1. I have some minor issues, but nothing game breaking. Certainly nothing to throw a hissy fit at.
People need to keep things in perspective. The world is dying due to global warming, and people are up in arms that GW2’s end game isn’t totally fleshed out.
I have a Guardian and a Ranger. I MUCH prefer the Ranger…. I love all the pets although I must say that the bear pets seem to be the best.
This is comming from a guy who has played clerics for the last 12 years….
I wouldn’t mind seeing some of the ‘heart’ quests being repeatable. They would have to have some limitations though.
Maybe once a week?
I have a Ranger, only level 35, but, when I go afk, I rarely die because my pet takes the agro and more often than not, kills the offending mob.
I have a 45 Norn Guardian and a 35 Human Ranger… I like the Ranger a lot more.
Maybe you should start a Ranger?

What other MMOs have you been through?Went from EQ —> DAoC (my irresponsible dad pulled me out of school early for release) --> WoW (on and off for years with tons of other MMO’s in between)
Cool, Ive been around too many to count honestly, I know that somewhere in the list is FFXI though, LOVED that one
SWG>EQ>GW2.
After that mmo’s, in my book, become pretty anonymous. Games like Shadowbane, Vanguard, Asherons call 1 &2, Rift, WoW, AoC, WAR, and Aion all become muddled in my mind.
Ooooh I forgot about Vanguard. God I loved that one. I wish it didn’t bomb so hard on release. I remember trying it out multiple times years later and see it still barely hanging on lol.
Didn’t Vanguard kinda flop because the whole, terraform and creating towns thing got kinda super tedious?
You’re talking of a completely different game. There was no terraforming or town creating lol.
Vanguard was meant to be a predecessor to the old school Everquest 1. The world was absolutely, disgustingly MASSIVE and awesome. The crafting was the most complex, in depth, realistic, and fun I’ve seen in any game ever (there was even a completely different leveling system for each char 1-80 Adventurer, Crafting, and Diplomat). The classes were fun, diverse enough and had their own interesting class mechanics.
The game, as he said, was rushed out and buggy beyond belief and just bled players which doomed the game. SOE finally picked it up and “Saved” it by fixing a ton of things and had a small team pumping out raid content and stuff. But they also never advertised it or helped it grow again. I weep to this day.
OH!…huh…What game was I thinking about? There was an MMO that was billed to have totally unique servers because player actions created towns and stuff across a giant map (that was empty at a servers conception)
SWG had player made everything. Weapons, Armor, buildings, towns…. That’s why it was my favorite. A TRUE sandbox mmo.
Archage is a Korean game comming out that ‘seems’ to be an SWG clone set in a fantasy world. If this is indeed what Archage is, sign me the kitten up!!!! ( I just typed kitten instead of a swear word for fun.)

My understanding was it flopped because it was sokittenbuggy, and the optimization/performance was so poor… But like I mentioned earlier, my brain is muddled.

I guess if I’m going to be complete I should put Vanguard on its own tier. Not as good as any of the Holy Trinity of my mmo career, but better than any of the other ones I’ve listed.

I too really enjoy GW2. I have a 45 Norn Guardian and a 35 Human Ranger.
I have some trepidation regarding ‘end game’. I DO NOT like spending RL $ to P2Win. I learned this lesson the hard way w/ a game called Battle of Immortals. That game tried to get your $ big time.
I don’t power play games, so I’m hoping that AN and the fan base come to some agreement regarding end game before I get there.
Here’s to being optimistic about the future of GW2.
If you read the OP carfefully he does say ‘it’s time to start talking about 1st content patch’.
But then he/she goes onto say ’ I doubt anyone will take them seriously if they will wait 3 months for 1st patch.’
So the OP IS expecting/wanting a content patch w/in the next 3 months.
I’ve been playing mmo’s since ‘99 w/ EQ and to tell the truth, I’m not sure if this is a reasonable expectation or not. Are we talking about a couple of DE’s and armor/weapon skins? A new dungeon? This maybe reasonable, but I don’t know.
Yea, see, I read the OP as well.. it seems a lot to me like the OP isn’t just asking the community to talk about it, but saying that ANet should have one out soon and I responded as such. Granted, I was very sarcastic, but I just don’t think that a content patch should be expected so soon. If they have it out, great, if not, I really don’t mind.. something for halloween would be cool but I wouldn’t hold it against them if we didn’t see anything just yet.
The point I was trying to make was directed at people who were apologizing for the OP. Some were saying the OP was just asking for a discussion regarding new content.
He WAS in fact asking for more content, and I was just pointing that out.
I know the point you were trying to make.. I wasn’t trying to reply to you, but quote you.. showing that I’m not the only one that thought the way you do.. really, I was replying to Mickey, I’m guessing the same person you are talking about. I’ll just quote the person I’m replying to next time, sorry for the confusion ;-)
NOW I get it. /heh
We are both responding to Mickey and Qsatu. I’m guessing those 2 are either poor readers or poor trolls, or genuinley confused/misinformed.
