If you read the OP carfefully he does say ‘it’s time to start talking about 1st content patch’.
But then he/she goes onto say ’ I doubt anyone will take them seriously if they will wait 3 months for 1st patch.’
So the OP IS expecting/wanting a content patch w/in the next 3 months.
I’ve been playing mmo’s since ‘99 w/ EQ and to tell the truth, I’m not sure if this is a reasonable expectation or not. Are we talking about a couple of DE’s and armor/weapon skins? A new dungeon? This maybe reasonable, but I don’t know.
Best MMo of all time = SWG, closely followed by EQ1.
I think GW2 is my 3rd favorite all time mmo.
Not too shabby when one considers the competition.
I STILL don’t get this. The cost is like what, 3s on average? Are you guys just TPing everywhere to see whats going on or something?
If you TP somewhere, kill a few enemies, boom, ou made your 3s back.
But these are the people who get different loot from everybody else, they’re the ones who’s inventories were constantly mired with butter and chocolate bars that they couldn’t sell. Show some compassion!
This made me laugh. I use TP to get across VAST distances, if a poi/vista/quest is in the same zone, I usually run there and collect gatherables along the way….
Again, this topic talks to the pace of the game. We are not meant to ‘rush’ to anything in this game. Although you can rush if you want. Just bothers me, a little, when people do ‘rush’ and then complain about problems caused by their ‘rushing’.
The forums are also the place where people who are at work bored off theirkitten go…. isn’t it?
LOL….This….
Okay…..Fess up. How many of you working stiffs keep the forums reduced on your task bar?
I work at home, sitting on my couch.
Sucks for you guys.
I am truly jelous then. I would absolutly love to work from home at my computer. If you have a lead for me, let me know.
I don’t bother to hide it. I flaunt it. My work is so taxing, they dare not complain about me reading this stuff.

I am really excited for ArcheAge
Me too. It looks to me like a fantasy based SWG type of game. I’m excited. I just hope the world doesn’t dry up and blow away before that game comes to the states.
No one responded, so I’ll suggest it again. Can’t they just make multiple versions of the same ‘zone’. Then there will never be too many people for a DE. Will make DE’s more difficult due to less folks.
For the ‘zerg DE’ problem. Would capping the population for the server for that zone and then makeing more versions of it ‘fix’ the problem?
That way there could never be ‘too’ many people for a DE?
How about a black jack. Wasn’t there an uber black jack weapon in EQ?
I would personally love to see spears in the game. In past experience, the only MMO games that let me wield a spear are eastern grind-fests. I don’t mind if they’re one handed or two handed weapons, spears are flexible.
aren’t spears already in the game in the form of under water weapons? Or am I hitting the pipe too hard again?
I could go back to a ‘traditional’ mmo if it were a lot like SWG. If I could ‘live’ in a player made city, in a player made house, with all player made items, I would.
So, I for one am seriously confused now. I’ve never died w/o having any copper. So, what DOES actually happen if I die w/o moneys?
I started a Guardian, got to level 41, got owned big time in AC and decided to try something else. Guardian IS my usual mmo ‘type’ of class but thought I’d jump ship.
Went w/ a Ranger, who is level 14 now. Love the pets…..
Hard to say wich I like better.
I’ve crafted some useful armor for my Guardian. Also some useful 12 slot bags. I’ve dabbled in cooking, wich is also pretty useful. Can’t really go wrong w/ food buffs.
I have a 41 Guardian and a 13 Ranger. I prefer the Ranger. Why? Because my 7 year old daughter likes all the pets….. truly. Also, she makes and names all my characters. Yes, they are all women.
Oh i see. I assumed that everybody must have already accumulated 100+ gold or something. No I dont play just for the gold. I am farming for that Master Book and some of the armors I see from the NPCs (got a bit bored with leveling, maybe I’ll work my way to 55 this weekend)
@vidiotking
Im pretty sure the yellow circle is gold, or am I mistaken?
No, no, you’re not mistaken. I’ve not seen a gold piece is all…. I had 80 silver once, but used it up crafting…
Hate to say this, but this may be the wrong game for you. Unlike all the mmo’s I’ve played in the past, except TERA, this game does require some ‘twitch’ like play.
I too am getting older, and MUCH lazier. I did stop playing my Guardian due to me sucking at it. I switched to a Ranger and ‘seem’ to be having more luck there.
The Guardian definatly could take more hits than the Ranger, but the pet pretty much mitigates that….
That’s my 2 copper.
Um… I think you mean copper per hour… and I don’t know.
I played a Norn Guardian to level 41, then decided to try something different.
I went w/ a Human Ranger, now at level 13.
I’m not usually big on alts, but I wanted to try something else after epicly failing AC.
So far, I’m likeing the Ranger a bit better. The comfort/safty of the Range® is more to my likeing.
I guess my thought is the GW2 is alot like WoW was. Nothing they did is grounbreaking or hasnt been done before. But they may be the first to do most of it all at once and get most of it right.
Groundbreaking? No. Fun? Heck yeah.
^What this says^
I don’t know that this game is a break through exactly, but it has been lots of fun for me so far.
I have to agree w/ Teracide, in that this is the first game since WOW where I don’t find myself comparing the 2 games. GW2 is has enough dis-similarity w/ WOW, to me, to make it some thing other than another WOW clone.
NO, no I haven’t. I use the wand and mace mostly.
If you are not getting the materials to do that then I would suggest that you have a style of play where you are forging ahead with levelling on a fast-track to 80 and/or trying to improve two similar crafting professions at the same time (e.g. make weapons and armour)
Here is my game playing style. I do the story line until that quest is about 3 levels higher than I am. Then, I go heart quests and events along the way. Now, I spend most of my time in lower zones I haven’t been to for the POI’s and Vistas. That about sums it up. If that is fast tracking, then there is a serious flaw in the progression model of this game. Ah should point out, I have dabbled in Pvp and WvW some too.
As for the most people comment, this is untrue. I have seen many people complaining about the same thing I am mentioning here. Visit other forums or even the in-game chat sometimes gets filled with it.
Their advice is, to go back and jut kill lowbie stuff over and over and over and over and over…………
I’ll just throw my 2 copper in. I have had NO trouble crafting items at or just above my level, currently lvl 40, by just playing the game…. is it possible you’re not leveling up your crafting by discovery? Because if you don’t use discovery to level, you use A LOT more resources for a much lower rate of exp…. Just a thought.
Hrm. that’s a tough one… Does appear that it is in some way not working as intended. Like I posted before, I thought I was doing it right untill I realized the items weren’t actually in my bags, but in the bank. That’s allz I gotz for yaz… /sorry.
Can’t help my self, but, you’re ‘very surprised a little bit’? Made me laugh.
Really though, I’m not surprised… those jerks are in every game. I /ignored and /reported the only one I’ve come across so far. Maybe if we all report them, they will go away… who knows. So far Anet has banned people for less, so it does seem promising.
I don’t love the downed system. It make me feel really really weak and desparate. I can just be myself in RL if that’s what I’m after….
Ok, I’m game, read board at work.
1. I LOVE the map. I love the way it looks, I love the way it keeps areas hidden untill you ‘discover’ them, and I love the way it zooms in and out right up to the third person view.
2.There is honestly nothing I truly dislike about the game except that not enough of my friends are playing. Can hardly fault the devs for that.
3.The game could absolutly benefit from a ‘better’ tutorial. It was easy enough for me to pick up, but I can see how some one who’s reletivly new to mmo’s may have a hard time getting started.
4.Seems the game has mastered a couple things.
a.open area quests, attempting to keep them ‘dynamic’.
b.revisiting lower level areas, aka level scaling.
c.making classes BOTH melee AND range.
d.making every one mostly responsible for their own survival, aka no more ‘trinity’.
I could go on.. but I’d like to see what other people say.
are they in your inventory? Cause if they’re in the bank, they won’t show up… took me a while to realize this.
just put the regular ingredients you would use to make an item into the discovery boxes, then add a rune, and ta da, you’ve discovered a new item to craft
rune is for armor.. here is a link.
Pretty sure you don’t have to leave the zone and come back. I think I’ve returned to nodes w/o leaving the zone. I’m not sure about the respawn time though.
Was wondering about that too. Thanks.
Ah, thanks guys! Very useful.
And vidiotking, good to see another appreciator of SWG, which was also my favorite MMO experience. Also, something about the landscapes in GW2 kind of remind me of SWG’s for some reason.. maybe just the colors and atmosphere. Obviously a little more advanced though, hah.
SWG crafting was THE best ever… I’ve read about a game called Archage that may be similar to swg, but that game is really far off.
Structural Engineering…
But seriously, Guardian and Warrior MUST be the sturdiest classes because they wear heavy armor?
I play a Guardian, and most of the builds I use have lots of skills that either heal or mitigate damage.
I believe the warrior is more offence while the Guardian is more defence oreinted… but this is just my basic understanding
If you’re on the fence as to whether or not to play GW2, I’m here to tell you to give it a go. I started with mmo’s in ‘99 playing EQ. Became an uber weapon smith in SWG. Played various other p2p and f2p mmo’s over the years. Vanguard, wow, EQII, ACII, Rift, Shadowbane, and most recently Tera to name just a few.
GW2 is in my top 3 mmo’s. It’s polished, well thought out, and fun but difficult at times to play. There is lots to explore(LOTS), crafting is meaningful(so far), and the combat is a nice compromise between twitch(think tera) and click and forget.
With no subsription fee, the risk of sampleing GW2 is just(just I know) $60, so do youself a favor and give it a try.
Yup
here is a list of transfers and locations for all Asura gates:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Asura_gateWiki is full of alot of useful info, If your ingame and want to know something you can type “/wiki asura gate locations” etc. It will minimize the game for you and carry out the search. All you have to do is read, it does the rest
I’ve been using the wiki here and there, and guildhead.com but I didn’t even think that there would be another way to get around other than hoofing it.
Just like to say again how much I’m enjoying this game. Haven’t had this much fun in an mmo since SWG.
At lion’s arch there is asura gates to all of the races starting locations
WHA!!!!! Thanks! Wish I knew that last week.
you walk… that’s what I did… Is there another way?
Not to rub it in or anything. But those downloads take me less than a minute…..
I love the map. I thought it was one of the best, well thought out maps in an mmo that I can remember. As my dad would say, “that’s why they make chocolate AND vanilla ice cream.”
These forum, so far(/crossesfingers) have been the most civil I’ve read in a long while. The D3 forums are a “wrethced hive of scum and villainy.” They are also funny.

The game runs very smoothly with all setting maxed EXCEPT shadows, wich are on medium. 20fps when the kitten hit the fan, 40-60fps out in the boonies.
There is a red bar under each of the icons on your skill bar. When it disappears, you’re in range.
ah, thanks… didn’t realize that.!
Is there anything to do besides completing Hearts and participating in events to gain exp?

I’ve been playing this game like it was a real life adventure. When I ran out of stuff to do in my races areas, norn, I went over to the Charr area. I like to explore. The scaling makes it worth while. imho.
A character is lvl 25-30, In areas 25-35 You will get around 1000 Xp and corresponsding Karma and Gold
Character lvl 25-30 goes to 1-15 zone …. You get around 200 Xp, and corresponding Karma and Gold
Ever since I saw that I’ve been avoiding low lvl areas like hell
Doesen’t pay off ^^
Well, you make a good point. I like to get all the vistas, points of interest though. So, in that sense, it makes it more worth while than if there was NO exp or loot at all, like in most other mmo’s. So there is SOME value in going back to lower level zones. Also, it makes helping friends a little more appealing. Better?

Are you a Norn by any chance?
There were a couple of bugged quests in the Level 14 range for Norns where your allies die much too quickly, or the NPC’s are dealing far too high DPS. Don’t beat yourself up over this.
To get around this, you can invite other players into your personal story, or they can invite you. Just ask around in /map chat, or look for players who seem to be heading into that instance and ask to join. Once you’ve completed a personal story instance in a group, each player who needs to complete it will be given an option to mark the quest as done for themselves, so you only need to run it once.
Don’t be afraid to go old school and ask around for help with this instance. Because they are bugged, lots of people are needing to do them.
Heh. This is the quest I was stuck on… so it’s bugged? That explains a lot. those npc “hellpers” dropped like flies.
I too, as a Guardian, have had lots of trouble w/ the story quests. I was stuck at the level 11/12 quest till I hit lvl 24. I must have tried and failed that quest a dozen times. Eventually I pulled it off.
I did the next few story quests w/ a friend. Those went really well. I haven’t progressed the story for a while….
Not sure if you’re supposed to out level them and return, or do it w/ a friend, but there is no doubt they are difficult. It certainly isn’t just you.
Oh, I didn’t mean to suggest that it capared to SWG crafting, wich in my opinion was the absolute BEST crafting ever in an mmo. Just that the GW2 crafting has been useful so far, and enjoyable.
I was actually an uber weapon smith in SWG. Fifth master weapon smith on kauri…. Ah, before children, those were the days when i could really immerse myself in the world. Now I’m mostly immersed in RL. Not so uber in RL though. Heh.
Just wanted to pat arenanet on the back for making crafting useful. I’ve been working on armor smithing and have actually gotten upgrades from it. I haven’t crafted in an MMO since SWG.
Just want to encourage people to try crafting…. That is all.
