I thought pre-purchase was for beta entry and title. Where does it say that the same bundle offers and price will change at release?
I still don’t think the expansion has enough to warrant that price. I hope there is a lot more to it that whan we’ve seen.
It’s nice that they are including a character though.Well they haven’t really released everything so you’ll still have to decide it’s worth when all is revealed~ At least now you know the end price.
Since, as far as I can tell, the blog post mentions you get the boni/refunds (apart from closing your account) only if you pre-purchase, you cannot really wait until all is revealed…
Ah, for the people requesting refunds…mm at this point I guess you’ll simply have to evaluate if the expansion is something you would risk investing in. Like, do you enjoy gw2 and living story?
yes thank you gaile for bringing that to our attention. this is what i felt was right
See nothing to panic over. They’re always listening even if it doesn’t seem like it

Gawd thank you, now hopefully all these $50 threads will stop. I’ll be so happy!

Expecting more from a product you haven’t bought yet and therefore not buying it isn’t entitlement. It’s being a critical, discerning customer.
There’s a difference between expecting more from a product and expecting more because you’re a current player or veteran to the game. The latter putting some form of prestige upon themselves assuming that they deserve something more because of it.
And no one is doing that. What’s happening is that people resent being offered a worse deal on buying the expansion for being a veteran.
They added a deal specifically to bring in new players. It’s a little selfish to assume that Anet must compensate veteran players for whatever deals they give to bring in new players.
They don’t have to. On the other side of the equation, veteran players don’t have to buy what they perceive to be a bad deal. And there’s nothing selfish about refusing bad deals. When a deal is obviously looking bad, the problem lies with he who proposed the deal.
No matter what anyone says your opinion on it being a bad deal will never change. So the way I see it, wait to see what they do (by now the obviously know about the issue) and decided your course of action then.
Giving the bundle is more a a positive then negative in my eyes because it brings more potential players that the base game alone could not do. Honestly it’s a pretty smart idea.
How about adding using a pre-purchase scheme instead of a pre-order one? Change your mind after more details of HoT have been revealed? Sorry, a deal’s a deal…
If you’re putting $50 on a nonrefundable purchase, I’d would hope you don’t change your mind lol. I only see this as a issue if something was preventing them from playing (DCs, errors, computer issues etc).
As I said in a previous post, this is literally for the “throwing money at the screen but nothings happening” crowd.

I don’t think anyone’s arguing with that at all. In fact every customer should always evaluate what they’re buying (unless they don’t care). I just think personally everyone jumped the gun too quickly. Anet hasn’t even announced everything that’s going to be in the expansion pack. They opened pre-purchases for people who are confidently interested. Everyone else should wait and see. At least now everyone knows the price and will evaluate ‘when the times comes’ if $50 is a make it or break it.
The only reason I’m upset is because of the Guild Halls has completely been ignored on the forums even though it was a great announcement that I feel added a pretty good value to the expansion. Instead of interesting discussions on the forum, it gets flooded with people wailing and pure hysteria about $50 and not knowing how to consolidate threads.
I’d say an easy solution would be just to throw in a character slot for everyone and the vast majority will be happy.

Why do we need to sacrifice ? Why instead does Anet not have to make a compromise ?
A compromise would’ve been so easy, even profitable if done the right way.
Something like this:
- Free base game for new players, free “veteran pack” for existing players.
- Add “veteran pack” to gem store some months after release like they did with the digital deluxe update for the original game.
- Profit from all those new players who can’t live without the veteran pack.
- More happy players.
The “veteran pack” can be a character slot and one or more unique shinies.
Wouldn’t new players complain that they can’t get the free items too? Since it’s free why wouldn’t everyone one get it and they would have to cough up money to pay for it down the line? Not fighting you but bringing up some issues I could see people burning Anet for again.
I think anyone – even new players could get the free items. it simply wouldn’t come with the core game, so they’d need to grab that separately.
Yes that would do nicely. They could leave the base game the same price as usually and have new people play it till they later pay for the expansion (some people take a while to get to 80).
In reality new players will always lose a bit. They’ll never be able to play livings story 1 and they have to pay to play living story 2. Added the base game free helps

Maybe you didn’t notice, but both groups of buyers get something for free in my hypothetical scenario, one of them still something of far greater value than the other group. And it isn’t the existing players getting the greater value.
Depends. If the base game is valued at $10 and the veterans pack equals more than that, new players get ripped off. Plus when they do get the expansion pack later they will have to pay for the vet pack while vets got it for free.

Again, it’s a lot about perception. I don’t see it this way. I view it as paying or not paying $50 for HoT. Giving the base game away free to new players doesn’t factor into it for me.
Outside independent sources see it the other way.
Quotes from PC Gamer:
“Guild Wars 2 players rightly upset by Heart of Thorns’ pre-purchase scheme”
“People who don’t yet own Guild Wars 2 are getting an amazing deal. People who do—who have potentially supported the game for three years—are not.”
Technically you are. You’re getting the base game for free! In addition to the expansion pack
Previously if you wanted another account you’d pay the $9.99 (which by the way I remember a lot of people calling it a steal and even bought second accounts). And as I previously stated new players/customers are always given more incentives to buy but in the end everyone gets the same offer.
Also “Amazing Deal” is a $10 off? Well I suppose everyone values $10 differently~
Would it have been better if they had just kept the base game available and priced it at $0 and the expansion $50? All in all I don’t think people really care that the game got bundle but that $50 is way too much then they were expecting to pay for an expansion.

I don’t understand. What “same sale”? The addition of the base game? You still technically get it. But if you choose to create a new account the expansion is locked to that account but you would still get the “same sale”.
And you’d have bought an “expansion” that wasn’t an expansion, leading to the argument some people here are pushing that HoT isn’t an expansion but the new basic game.
Basically, you can buy it as a complete game, or as an expansion. One of those options offers more than the other. It’s no consolation to people who want an expansion that they can get better straight up value for money for buying a new game. They want an expansion.
It’s of the same value if you can get the same offer a new player is getting. A new player will get base game with expansion, and you can also get a new base game with expansion ‘or’ add expansion to your current account. Whichever you like but it’s the
‘same’ besides the fact that the first offer is more desirable towards new players.
Edit: As I re-read your post I realize I just said the same thing lolz!
The way I see it, there is no ‘straight up value’. The value according to Arenanet is $50. No matter if you’re new or an old player, you’re all paying $50. All of you will be able to get the base game and expansion if that’s what you desire. If getting the base game included is of more value to you, then do it. If the expansion is good enough for you then take it. Regardless the options are there and everyone pays the same. Even if they did add a bank slot or lower the price. New people would still get the base game at the same lower price as you so I don’t see any solution to this other then blocking new players out completely from the deal.

I beginning to wonder: if Publix or Payless had a forum, they would receive this many amount of flamers. Would customers complain every time they had a bogo or summer sale. “I just bought those shoes or chicken last year and now they’re free/half off! I demand a refund!” or would people even complain to Walmart when the movie they bought at $26 ends up in the $5 bin a year or so later?
I can understand that people don’t want to pay the $50 now cause of lack of information. That’s cool. I see pre-purchase for people who are DEFINITELY going to buy it regardless of content (or lack thereof). I don’t understand the people who downright won’t buy it cause they think $10 more is too much for an expansion that will support GW2 till the next expansion release.
For the add on of the base game: It’s business. Keeping the old while trying to snag new blood. Makes good sense. The other option would be selling base game for $10 and $50 for expansion.
Question: we all know there are 75% sales often. In fact one came out the next week after I bought the game.
How much complaining do you hear about the 75% sales? IT IS NOT ABOUT THE PRICE!!!!!!!
For you, not anyone else cause everyone is different, what is it about?

Because the cost of the free bonus is zero.
We have already agreed that it is not (yes, even you, where you agreed that it has to be paid off by increased sales). It’s nothing more than a market speak. It’s not free unless you can get it for free. And you can’t, you have to pay $50 first.

If they specified that some customers, by the store’s discretion, cannot get the discount from the same sale? You bet the screams would be high, and stores would be burning.

I’m on Seas of Sorrow and recently started doing Tequatl. We haven’t failed on any of the ones I participated in. Try there?
I agree 100% with op.
The way I see it, if Anet continues to add more content (living story, maps, etc) onto HoT, players will eventually have to buy the expansion. I doubt the expansion will conclude all in one go. I have a feeling we’ll be going deeper into the Jungle. $0 for another 2-3 years of content is no big deal.
I will say though that they should throw in something for the standard edition, be it an extra character slot or jems~ It does look a little bare (and why i just went straight or the other two upgrades).

Gw2 will always be available for you if you decided to come back. The beauty of b2p. Also by the time you ever decide to come back, the price on the expansion might have dropped!
If you really are leaving give away your ectos! No one says no to ectos!!!
You paid $100 for that? Good job, you should get a campfire started. You can roast your money on a stick.
If it’s something you enjoy, splurging here and there isn’t a crime. People had the same issues with smartwatches. The gems are a pretty good deal~
I got it too. Luckily I finished paying all my bills for the month so I was good to go!

1- Well, that’s subjective. If you don’t feel like it’s worth $50, hold out till they have their sale a year from now and snag it.
2- Base game is included for free with purchase. Price would have been the same without it.
Speaking for myself, the price really doesn’t bother me. GW2 is my relaxing fun time after work so that already justifies me getting it
I said “Free bonus”. I had a strong feeling that it was going to be $50 matching the original box sales. Just ignore the fact you get the base game. That feature isn’t meant for you. It’s to target new players and get the into the Hot expansion instead of just sticking to base game.
Mm I don’t think the expansion price would have changed even if the base game wasn’t included. I think they added that in as a free bonus for new players. The game was on sale for $10 various times.
I expected more but I wasn’t surprised at what little I got. I was curious about the ‘adventures’ concept, so I was content with the small demo.
I think that challenge was about being quick and efficient.
Oh yeah I am. Definitely. There will probably be features I don’t like but I’m still buying it. Can’t wait till more details are announced.
Yeah, it was there last year as well…I laughed.
It stopped spawning vortexes, what should I do?
Edit: Just kited it with my pathetic 16-20 damages for 20 mins. Finally finished. The boss wasn’t hard to figure out and would have been fun if it hadn’t stopped giving me vortexes to use
(edited by vikkival.2459)
I’m not getting any more vortex(s) and I just have a small amount of hp left on the Boss. Is this a bug. Really frustrating because I don’t want to restart this whole thing over again
Advice from a casual, don’t eat food or use traits etc etc.
It’s soloable but a pain in the butt. I actually rage quit my first try (I was tired from spending all day blasting through all the living story to catch up for today’s release).
First, always go for the menders. Use stuns and knock back any chance you can get. When you kill him attack the statue. Rytlock always mentions when a new bender appears so listen for that.
The only really annoying part is the orb of utter terror and doom. Just outrun it as best as you can (It disappears after a while) while ranging the mender.
Good luck!!
I’m not sure I know what any of you are talking about. Where were these? Seems interesting.
Something like this:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/short-story-what-scarlet-saw/
They wrote these for some of the living story releases.
I liked the short stories as well. I guess too many people were shunning them because they weren’t included in game. Shame…
1) Not done finishing my characters’ looks (ranger and necromancer are the only ones left) and gear (four characters still need ascended trinkets, one of which is stuck because there are no ascended zealot/keeper trinkets).
2) Blade & Soul isn’t out yet.
B&S is likely never coming to NA :/ … I just want Black Desert, omg that Blader looks so amazing.
Pretty much. I was so looking forward to Blade and Soul but at this point, it’s probably never coming. Like seriously, have they announced any news about the delay??? Hopefully Black Desert will be coming to the west soon. The Sorceress looks awesome!
I log in for living story and map completion. But mostly living story. Finally made it to lvl 80 and trying to catch up before it continutes in November.
I haven’t played the original guild wars and any of Season 2, but if I recall, Tyria exist way before the Gods arrived right?
I don’t think the Gods have anything to do with the creation or history of Tyria (world). They didn’t even know (or at least mention) that elder dragons existed ( built a shrine on top of one) or even ‘created’ magic. More like harnessing it. The Asuras are natives to Tyria (?) and I think the eternal alchemy is their version of our the Big Bang. The Gods and their lore exists but what we’re finding out is not their story but the story of the actual world of Tyria (my opinion of course).
You’re not only asking for Anet to do this but you are also going against a group of people who don’t want it vs when someone suggest something (precursor crafting) and a majority of people agree.
Yes. There are things that are more universal to the community than mounts. Even on my personal list of things I want Arena Net to do in the game, mounts are pretty low in priority.
But I don’t think anyone here is saying “implement mounts next week”, even though we’ve had at least one post inform us that ArenaNet is too busy with the launch in China to implement mounts.
And I haven’t heard anyone say that mounts should be added before precursor crafting, or the option to turn off right-click targeting, or making pets useful in large scale fights, or first person view, or even player housing.
It’s just a “we’d like mounts in the game” thread, not “mounts are the most important thing this game needs”.
Yea I know this is a suggestion thread and it got turned into a word war…
The issue isn’t when mounts could be added but that people don’t want it at all. I think we can all agree that mounts are low priority. But people are arguing their heads off because they are completely against the idea of mounts. Just as you are passionate about mounts, you have a decent amount of people that wants the idea to burn in the flames of Primordus. That’s why this is going on for 17 pages+ of pure back and forth vs. a discussion on the best way to implement mounts in game~
Basically you have to win over Anet and the player base. I would suggest making a poll to tally mounts vs. no mounts. From this thread, no mounts is winning.
I also don’t get this whole “burden of proof” talking point that keeps getting hit.
“Since mounts aren’t currently in the game, people who want them have to prove that they should be included and I don’t find the reasons you’ve posted convincing” is a lot of extra wordage to basically say, ‘I don’t find the reasons you’ve posted for mounts convincing."
It just seems to be a way to try and set up one side as the judge and jury who doesn’t have to engage in the conversation, but can just keep coming back with “Nope.” as the total of their argument.
An no one in this thread has authority to be the judge and jury on this issue. It’s up to ArenaNet.
Very true. The only reason we are asking for reasons is because so many people disagree with this suggestion. You’re not only asking for Anet to do this but you are also going against a group of people who don’t want it vs when someone suggest something (precursor crafting) and a majority of people agree.
With your argument there would be no reason to add any new fun content and all we get would be for QoL patches.
…i have already addressed that in this discussion, several pages ago. I will quote it back:
Any new introduction to the game needs to be weighted in terms of necessity (does the game needs it?), desirability (do the people want it? are the people against it?) and difficulty (how hard it is to implement). For something to be done, the first two need to outweight the third.
What you are speaking now is the second point (desirability). Fun content worth introducing is the one that is fun to majority, or one that is fun for significant number of players and has no strong opposition.
Mounts are a content that is indeed fun to some, but so far there is nothing to suggest that it fulfills one of those criteria. Quite the opposite, in fact.
In short, you were unable to prove so far that it is indeed a fun content. Only, that it is fun personally to you. Those are not the same.
Yeah and you said that if something that is not in the game and there are people who want it for fun (as with any new content except for QoL) and there are people who do not want it the not wanting out-waits the wanting because it’s just fun.
So again, by your definition, new content would never be introduces because there will always be people want wanting it and they outweighs those wanting it.
When you now say ”and has no strong opposition.” that means that those with the biggest mouth always git it there way… well if they do NOT want something.
“In short, you were unable to prove so far that it is indeed a fun content. Only, that it is funpersonally to you. Those are not the same.“
You see this is what I mean.. There will always be people for it and against it. Fun is subjective so you can never proof something is fun for everybody. And so you always outweigh those who scream it’s not fun for them. So again, by your definition we would never add new content.
The reason that something is fun for people is a good reason to add it. Like it or not.
That’s not what he means.
For example,
Anet is working on a poster board project. The data is pretty good and flows nicely. Then Devata comes in and says, “You know, It would be nice to add in this chart. It’s not needed at all but I think it’s a nice info to mention.” Problem is, there’s not space to put this chart in. Anet will have to erase and rearrange a good portion of the board. Or take a piece of paper and attach it with some tape or whatever. Now Astralporing and Nerelith comes in and says, “Er why go through all that. Seems pretty well the way it is. Besides the info chart is completely irrelevant…How about you improve this instead”
Should Anet spend the 5 hours rearranging board for Devata (minority) on something unneeded (fluff) or listen to Astralporing and Nerelith (majority) and leave it as is and focus on improving the board even more (precursor fix, new maps, and living story)?
There are two points for leaving the chart out and only one point for adding it in. Majority wins.
Now if you had an good defense, "Not only is it a fun fact but….(something convincing enough to win over at least one of the other points – either getting more people on your side or finding a way fit it in successfully) then you stand a chance of getting your chart.
This isn’t even valid. There are so many immersion breaking things in this game it’s quite unreal.
________This is true, but why add more?
Because when it comes down to it, the game will be full of them, one more thing won’t hurt. It’s gone past the stage where people look at something and say “What happened to the immersion?” It’s now at the point where people think about it, and go on with what they’re doing.
That is not a good way to think. If you keep letting things slide, a lot of other things will go along with it (like how one thread was asking for a school uniform outfit). I think it fine for us to ask for things but there has to be a line or things will get out of hand. The only item I have a problem with is The Dreamer. It could only redeem itself if it has a really meaningful lore behind it lol
While mounts exist in ‘written’ lore, but doesn’t in game, it’s kinda a big deal. Like when people were complaining about those short stories Anet keep posting. People claimed, if it wasn’t seen in game, it doesn’t exist. I feel the same for mounts. I have never witness any human npc on a horse (never even seen a horse). Dolaks are used for cargo, and Asuras don’t use their golems as a chauffeur (unless you’re Taimi). Chars use their mounts for military purposes so I don’t think they’ll be going on cruise rides with the bikes. This is why I feel mounts would break immersion No matter how they implement it, it would be to sudden and weirdly added in.
(edited by vikkival.2459)

________
This is true, but why add more?
POORLY DESIGNED:
- Instant 90 degree turns (aka lack of turning circle)
- Instant 180 degree turns (^)
- Standing at awkwardly impossible angles on cliffs or steep hills/objects (somehow floating horizontally, or somehow floating vertically!)STUPID MODELS (my favourite one)
- Magic Carpet
- Flying Quaggan
- Rainbow
- Golden Shiny Super Centaur That Poops Love Hearts
- Hover Board
- <Insert the plethora of easily thought up vomit worthy garbage>IMMERSION BREAKING
- Most importantly I will be FORCED to see other people on this garbage.
- I will be FORCED to view the all the things I listed under the above 2 headings.
- Mount will appear out of thin air, and disappear instantly. Disgusting.
- As above, standing at awkward broken angles, instant 180s.LORE IGNORING
- Only the Stone Summit and Undead had the occasional mount in the past. The rest of Tyra did not punish other creatures by sitting on them.
- Horses don’t exist in Tyria
- Mounts don’t exist at all in present day Tyria
^ All of this (in a much calmer tone lol)
I posted earlier in this thread about the how turning animation has being poorly handled (when transformed into a creature) and I feel Anet will do no differently for the mounts. I’m glad someone also took notice of this~
The fact that you can way-point already takes away much of the exploration.
Not to mention the fact that they’ve spelled out a lot of things on the map for us.
As in many other ways, GW2 seems a bit divided on its design for exploration. The world is beautiful, and they’ve done a nice job rewarding exploration. On the other hand, there are far too many waypoints, and a little bit too much indicated by squares and triangles on the map.
Isn’t that entirely up to the player?
I don’t think you are giving people like me enough credit. I love exploring and I will not use waypoints unless i’m in a hurry to get somewhere.
Other people just don’t care about exploring. They want to get where they want to go fast and simple. Waypoints are great for that. I don’t want to spend 10 minute trying to get to the nearest bank to empty my bag or craft. But if I want to enjoy the world. I walk~ I don’t think that you guys should hold the lack of mounts as missing the world and not experiencing it. It’s not a good enough excuseOnce you’ve seen the world in GW2, you’ve seen it. Map exploration one time, I’m good. While some zones have things that are pretty kitten the first time, after the 2nd or 3rd, you’re like meh, I’ve seen it, it’s there, not like it moves or anything.
Alright. So you don’t want mounts. I get it. But what’s stopping you from not using a mount if they ever implement it? The answer is nothing. You can keep WPing or walking or hitting 4 every 15s. And since you like walking so much, if they do remove WPs, you can walk even more!
Look at that. It’s a win/win in the end.
Haha I understand that. It’s all just up to the person. I’ve completed Queensdale so many times but I’m still taking pictures of it and walking all over the place. Can’t help it
The issue I have against mounts is that it just wouldn’t look good (to me). I don’t want to see a bunch of Chars on steam bikes or a ton of Asura golems crowding around me. Also I just can’t see mounts looking good while traveling along terrains, going up hills, through swamps or inside of caves (and please not in city hubs!). I have nothing agains mounts, however I’ve always viewed mounts as something necessary rather than fluff. My first mmo was flyff and you needed a mount to get around but I didn’t care much for it. I never felt like the speed boost so much of a difference because after a while, you’ll want to move faster then, faster and faster. So we have waypoints instead.
I feel that mounts isn’t something that should have any priority for the time being. If they implement a convincing and interesting system (like Black Desert) then maybe. But for now I’d like to see some improvements on what’s already in game. Like something new to add to the home instance.
Mm I really don’t see the difference between walking and mounts. Walking or riding on something would get boring just the same. Expect you’ll see the butt of an animal wiggling lol
We explore differently. I like to climb, jump, and explore every nook of the map. I love vistas and points of interesting as a guide to exploring but I don’t limit myself to that. Mounts would just hold me back and it would annoy me after a while. Just my personal opinion~ I have nothing against it but I don’t care that’s its not in game.
3 differences.
1 Using a mount is faster and so better for longer distances. On foot however you can fight and walk shorter distances.
2 It’s a cosmetic, just like weapons skins, armor-skins, mini’s and even ranger-pets can be cosmetics as well.
3 It can add a new game-play element to the game. hunting down mounts in the game. they can drop from dungeons, mobs, events and so on. So if they drop from specific events or mobs you add a new game-play element to the game. More end-game.
Those 3 together can be summarized as fun. Exactly that was a game should be about.
1- Wouldn’t this go against exploration? And how will this be different from speed boast that we get now?
2- Yes it’s fluff. Can’t really say much about this. I don’t really care much. I’m still trying to understand the purpose/fun of minis lol
3- This is interesting but I can see a lot of problems (look at precusors or weapons of the mist). And I’m pretty sure if this was implemented, it’d be a black lion ticket thing. Also if mounts are included, would people be forced to get one (getting to places quicker when in a event, dungeon, etc)?
Also you might want to look into Black Desert. They have a cool mount system
I honestly would love to see Anet focus on other things right now but maybe in the future? Idk
It’s not a good enough excuse
Um you know you can walk right?
I didn’t use waypoints for the first 20 levels because I love exploring the whole world. Walking is way better than mounts. Mounts would get in the way of doing things like going for vistas or certain points of interest. Or if you get attack by agros and it kicks you off your mount. Seems a bit tedious.
You don’t HAVE to use waypoints. Try walking, it’s good exercise for us heroes.
I’m pretty sure they’re on a mini hiatus right now (4-6 months?). They’ll probably announce something when they are close to a release. People tend to be upset when they make statements of upcoming features/content but don’t deliver (can’t blame people though). I think they are learning their lesson with that. Better safe than sorry.
As for the temporary content vs permanent content. Not really sure why this is an issue. Seems tiresome to keep arguing about this. If it’s so important I can easily see Anet putting Season 1 arc as a fractal. Then old and new players can experience the whole Scarlet Brair story arc from beginning to end. (with minor changes since the mist does alter things). So instead why not ask for something like this then continue the Living story season 2. Seems more productive~
