I posted this in general discussion ,but just had to post it here. More for laughs then anything else.
I have been thinking about this for a good while and find it ironic that while rangers really have no good active cleanses save (healing spring) that thieves get their best cleanse from us rangers, and their stolen ability looks more like a nature ability then anything I have seen rangers get.

With the new reduction to vigor in the Ranger trait lines I would like to see a bonus to other ways of being defensive. A way I propose to do that would be to change the proc on the “defensive” Greatsword to protection ,since we lost some of the protection from the Trait Companion’s Defense. Another option would be to have the proc give the much needed stability which is needed to be effective in melee.
Ok I do not currently run spirit meta. I do not even run condition removal(ooo scary right) But I tell you what I am hating. Length of Terror,Knockback,Stun …Cause I feel like a ping pong ball that just bounces around and can not take any actions before I am dead. Stabilty is so important now, and where do we get it? An elite or 1s cast time sigil if specced 30 pts in Marksmanship.
That being said I am enjoying Ranger and feel in it’s current state it is on par with 50% of the other professions Guardian, Warrior, Engineer (50-60%win rate in 1v1 or 2v2 situations vs Thieves,Mesmers,Elementalist,Necromancer (30%-50% win rate) Mesmers and Necromancers being the lowest.(I can accept this due to my lack of condition removal)
I run LB-AX/AX
0/30/0/30/10
Skirmishing II/IX/X
Nature Magic III/VI/XII
Beastmastery III
Cleric Trinkets with Dolyak on armor
Feel free to lead feedback like omg that build sucks or constructive feedback
I find both entertaining
Signet of Wild has 1s cast time. Underwater same skill cast time is half a second. Not sure which one is bug or if both.
Whirling axes even though says it blocks projectiles in description does not proc blocks
for Guardian runes.
So for all who said was not a bug why when underwater does cast time go to half a second?
Just noticed today. Signet of Wild has 1 second cast time. First signet I have ever seen with cast time. Bug or not?
This goes to the SWAG guardian squire who stomped me a few times. I was the PD Ranger.
Well done. Very impressed with your build. I would like to duel you later. Possibly tonight at 10pm pacific by the south camp windmill?
This is my percentage build. Since pets are a non consistent damage percentage I tried to find traits which gave us percentage to damage bonus. This is what I came up with.

10% at full endurance,10%flanking,5% with Greatsword,5% with boon= a nice possible 30% damage buff
After the patch change I am having a hard time figuring out which goes better with this build. Two axes or Shortbow?

It is a build I use for everything. PvE,PvE dungeons, spvp,WvW Zerg and WvW Havoc Squad.
Also looking for feedback on utilities as well
So this low in the ammount of pages for suggestions and thoughts you might never see these. I was thinking of ways to make spirits viable/fun.
First my experiences with spirits has been so-so. If you do not wish to read these please skip down to suggestions. Admittedly I do not spvp as much as during beta when I like most rangers ran spirits and greatsword. So the spvp aspect I will leave for someone to touch on(however I think my experiences for wvw closely correlate)
1. my experiences in dungeons with spirits has been poor. At best they get off one special as they die. Put them in the corner I hear people say. How many boss fights do you not move in? how many corners are good enough to affect all allies? Also taking 2 secs(I know its less but feels longer when in combat) out to place it while standing in one place could mean death for me the ranger. Also tried follow trait. Hmmm so i get more pets that can die?The only one i run in dungeon is elite for when my teammate dies. So its a insta rez.
2.in wvw some similar experiences except have you tried casting spirits mid combat. I can usually only get them up while stability and SoS are up when travelling with the zerg because unlike every other ranged caster I do not have a instacast area ranged ability(I do not consider piercing arrows area) so I have to be in the horde to stay safe from enemy area attacks. Which means safe from those areas ,but highly susceptible to control affects. In a havoc group get more use when have the following trait ,but what is often the case is in a havoc group is the spirit will go down naturally and in mid combat do not really ahve the time to try and get off a spirit pet cause they have a long casting time.
SUGGESTIONS
Suggestion 1-Cut the cast time to half second or less. This will allow us to have the spirit when we want it where we want it.
Suggestion 2-We have a pet who wants more?Have the spirit enter the pet and give our pets those powers the spirits had. “Storm Spirit would give the pet the storm glow…etc”
Would I play spirits if it were like this? Of course, but I am sure you all have your own ideas and suggestions. so lets give lots of good ideas!
Shortbow is the new Melee
ok where or where do get settler’s armor and weapons? cause my lack of toughness I think is what is killing me. That and having a hard time with A/D and S/T since I am so used to Gs/Sb.
Well when you are amazing at PVP it doesn’t matter what happens to the class and man you must be a god among mortals. Please show me a video of your skill so that I can learn how to be great as well. This is not a troll. Because I know I suck. It has got to be me.
first shout of the professions i have seen that have a 1sec cast time. Of course its to put the aoe down ,but in middle of combat 1 sec is forever and easily innteruptable. Also I have noticed a delay with the new minor adept beastmastery trait. so instead of attacking with their quickness they just wander about while I get poked. Anyone else noticing this?
Quick question then. For 5 person limit do you and your pet count? So only 3+ yourself?
Observations:Day1
So I gave this build a try. (0/0/30/30/10) first I noticed a bug(shhh you can stack regen and swiftness to 2m 30s
next i noticed that not everyone in a 10 man grp gets buff(bug? maybe i dunno)
next my survivability does not change. I already had permaspeed using hunt in place of guard and permaregen
So if willing to give up something(damage or survivability)you the ranger really do not gain anything.
I would also like to mention that Path of scars does not travel on Y axis so no pulling off walls(I bet arenat had that one prefigured out)
But I suggest give it your own try. spend the coin and see if you like it or not
So after watching this by xsorus https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/BM-Bunker-Build-Guide-Movie

(edited by whitespirit.9734)
Yep we are too strong. Had to give up some awesome guilds to make it an even match up for next week.
and banners take 1 second to cast while spirits 1.5 seconds the list goes on and on.
=P
So As I look at your build. I am thinking this is good. Why do I not play spirits. Then I notice the casting time is 1 and a half second. Mid combat or even while roaming that is a lot of time.
Build wise I agree greatsword is key. If going Longbow however that does not help you as much and the key is Sun Spirit is fire damage buff. Burn is a condition and you do not get many conditions out of Longbow. If Longbow must be taken however I would put last 10 points in power and get the 10% extra damage while endurance is full Trait.
Stats I would go for would be toughness/condition which ends up being apothecary ( yeah sorry it wastes the healing power) good luck and let me know how it goes.
New entangle bug, or maybe something I missed before. Each pulse will disrupt actions . for example I tried using whirling axes after entangled and would not let me, and entangle mid swoop had me doing multiple bumps like I was continually bouncing off the roots. The swoop would not end even when tryin to spam Heal and SoS. Faced the same ranger three times. Each time none of my skills would work.

Last time i watched a GvG against [HOPE] and [CERN] cern won and the VK wiped them so nope
At least get your facts straight. The only “wiping” that got done was in a completely fair GvG. HOPE won 2-1 vs CERN, and would have continued more rounds but VK wanted in on the action too, so CERN fought them for a few rounds.
If you’re talking about what happened at the very end, it was just for fun and lols to end the night of good fights. I’m pretty sure there was mutual respect between all 3 guilds. Again…here are the videos 100% fair:

Wanted to say “I Love the Lindsey Stirling music in the VK vs CERN!”
To all you fellow PD ers that take a drink when someone dies. Makes Reset Night fun but it goes quick LOL
I have 250 badges and over 1 million karma and no not a pve’r. As a ranger getting a deathblow is like omg I killed someone, and jp is useless unless you have a zerg in there. I bet most people who have 3k + badges from killing peeps are either Warrior(100winblades),Elementalist (AoEEEEEEEE) and/or a Thief(Dagger Dance). admittedly I have spent 360 badges on jewelry but these badges just mean the stronger classes get that much stronger.
bitter much?! yeah dont care wanted to voice my opinion.
Last night while in FABL kepty tryin to ignore Mez You Up. I need a click one because I dont know how to put the double dots above the o. Can we get an ignore feature please.
Hi Pink. As a KGB guild member who went toe to toe for several hours in TC borderlands last night I have a love/hate relationship.
I am wondering what your top three favorite attacks are and why. If you want you can post your least favorite instead. Mainly just getting ideas for community and devs what makes ranger fun or not so fun.
1. Barrage. I love this attack. raining pain on the enemies, it cripples them, and I dont have to worry about attack being obstructed when firing.
2. Swoop. awesome animation where sometimes I can actually see the giant eagle instead of it being in spirit form, helps in certain jump puzzles where I cant make the jump, and closes in on enemies or runaway in most cases.
3. Call of the Wild. Nice buffs, good duration like the animation of howling wolf in the forest with full moon behind. Allows me to keep up with, and help the zerg get to wherever we headed(kinda like the skald/minstrel/bard of DAOC)
So how about you which ones do you like/dislike?
So this question I have is how closely are traits related to skills? I didn’t ask this in the ranger forum because I wanted to see if its profession specific or a broader situation among many professions. For those not interested in example of my question please skip down 5 paragraphs for conclusion statement.
As a ranger I look at my Marksmanship tree and see only weapon that gets a bonus is longbow. Fantastic! makes sense since longbows need extra damage so the power boost is great, but the other is increased condition length which doesn’t make any sense to me since longbow for lacks conditions. I am guessing most rangers take this trait line for teh 6 sec invulnerability and extra range in longbow for WvW.
Next trait line is Skirmishing. It is a Precision/Critical Damage trait line. In it is Traps, Shortbow/Longbow cooldown reducer, main hand axe crit bonus, and bunch of pet bonuses. This mainly confusing because Traps, Shortbow, main hand axe are all seen as condition type weapons not crit weapons. Longbow fits here well with pets as Longbow needs more damage which it gets from crits and longbow gives pets a job as body tank. So precision is full of range weapons bonuses which makes the extra 10% flank bonus hilarious because when usually using range weapons people are charging at you or facing you so not likely to get flank bonus.
Next line is Wilderness Survival It is toughness/condition damage. Yay a tanky damage build so you take damage with toughness while your conditions do damage.
we have martial mastery which is good cooldown on melee weapons Off hand training better cooldowns for offhand. So if we look at weapons Greatsword has the better defensive skills between it and sword ,but the sword has more condition attacks. In my opinion neither fits. A “defensive greatsword build that does no condition damage because Maul blows” or an "defensive sword build that blows cause doesn’t have any defensive skills(no free evade, counter strike knockdown, daze). Off hand is great if you use dagger/torch for extra condition damage, but not the warhorn which is more commonly chosen.
Next line is nature magic Vitality and Boon duration. In it is one weapon and spirits
Greatsword doesn’t have any boons so lets look at spirits. This one actually fits! Too bad for the most part tryin to get a boon from these guys is hard. Fire spirit does extra condition damage, Frozen does condition damage, Spirit of Nature does healing/rez and condition removal. Then we have last two Earth which gives protection and Storm which gives swiftness.
Last but not least we have our Healing beast trait line. First of all I find it a bit funny as most rangers don’t care if pets die and just use this line for the quickness buff, but lets say they were gonna go Beastmastery what do they get? Shouts! and pet abilities which makes sense since instead of normal weapons we use pet as weapon. Shouts as most rangers will tell you are near useless unless in pve where enemies just stand there.
Now here is a question to my fellow rangers do any of you use the pet specific traits besides the one that gives felines extra bleeds? As for healing there is no regen bonus like in vitality(or at least not for you as pets get a regen for 30 pts) no spirit of nature/Heal skill bonuses.
First of all. This might seem like a QQ for a ranger. If you think it is don’t respond. I dont want to see comments like cry more ,etc… I just want feed back from fellow players either saying “hey yeah this doesn’t make sense” or “yeah my class trait lines are like that” and then maybe a solution you have come up with in your play style to use the fact most weapons don’t match their trait lines to your advantage.
