Hey,

I always thought the best option for population in balance currently is to delete all current worlds and recreate them all but with 3 less and allow everyone to transfer about to their designated solo or guild server.

However the issue of communities arises, so would it be possible to create in game communities in a similar but altered format as guilds?

The ideas behind it is to set up a new way for a communities players to be put together on a regular basis and be able to communicate via community chat, see who’s online in their community etc. And in the same way we get put in LA instances with our friends/guild but with the community.

This could go as far as changing people name colours etc in WvW to their community servers or adding a symbol which represents the server.

Would be nice if others could expand on this or give their own thoughts.

Was wondering if anyone else who genuinely has bad internet/lag has noticed a massive decrease in lagging up/out and I’m talking Ping not fps.

Perhaps it’s just the holy return of alpine outshining the deserted borderlands <3

There’s definitely something wrong with that. I’m sure I didn’t have to download anywhere near that much.

Thank you for confirming that, I didn’t know if something was going weird or smth, I’ll update my backup of GW2 from an External HDD.

Unless anyone has experienced this before and knows whats wrong with my regular copy?

My download speed is a baseline 120kbps maximum usually sitting on around 70kbps.

It’s not the download speed I’m worried about that as I know it’s slow as hell, but that the amount of data it’s trying to download?

Essentially did the update have over 30,000 files to be downloaded? Same with having already downloaded over 1.8gb

Na man, my game was fresh up to date until Tuesday’s patch but at the moment it’s trying to download 28,000 files and done 1.8gb so far, the other raid wing didn’t take this much data.

I’m a WvW player and dn’t even wanna play this new pve stuff but taking so long to update lmao, did anyone else have this amount of files to download?

Since that update yesterday my client is trying to download over 30k files, i left it downlaoding today as I have slow internet and I’ve downloaded 1.6gb and still 28k files to go, this is the patch size? or something gone wrong?

Reading alot of peoples lists, and comparing it to Anets statement of fixing population imbalance all comes down to WvW being fun to play nad having that old diversity it used to have where you could do whatever you wanted and it all came together, roam upgrade, duel, GvG, zerg, PPT and you each method had a high competitive level that casual players could join (save for ppt because BORING) but that wasn’t something we had to think about as it all rolled into the same ball.

Just read what Amarath read, (was writing mine as he posted haha) he points out FUN this is what people want and got from 2012, 2013, 2014, early 2015 and this is what keeps players in the game, new join, old leave, some stay like me the entire time, and now praying for a resurrection.

Yo, nice to see a dev presence, this isn’t a direct 5 points of priorities, but I’d like to explain what should form the priorities and how it relates to the statements made by Anet in terms of the AMA on Sunday, would appreciate if you took the time to read this.

WvW population was always going up and down since day one, new players come in, love or hate it, leave or stay, some stay for a couple of years until they get bored, some stay as part of the core WvW community spread across all servers, it’s the core groups of players who keep WvW the population ticking up and down at that present moment in time. Let me explain below.

The core population consists of different factors, casual players, server loyal players and hardcore players and guilds.

Casual: pops into wvw each/every night for a couple of hours or so, spread out with pve/pvp.
Server Loyal players: Dedicated to their home servers in it’s leaderboard ranking/ fight rep.
Hardcore: Guild raiding/GvG/PPT, Fight guilds who want to fight vs enemy public zerg/other guild groups, GvG who come under this also, but then PPT guilds, whi somply will PPT all night, primetime etc these are an important part of the community still due to server rating and keeping them high.

Population issue is the stated Anet focus now, so what factors into population dropping?

Gameplay/Fun/Reason to play.

World vs World erupted with fast paced mass pvp combat fights, where often there was a more preferred style of fighting, looking at Hammertrain and Pirateship here.

- Fighting was intense and a small 5v5 with your party and another random party on borders could last 10 minutes and be epic.
- A constant 1v1 with an enemy roamer in Alpine borderlands vying for camps could go on for hours.
- Public zerg fights could last hella long time and even in lower tiers fights could be legendary and players could jump in and fit in.
- GvG including both random encounters and organized equal numbe fights on borders and OS, I might get emotional here.. Godlike fights of an crazy intensity and levels of skill/discipline and teamplay rewarding the strongest guilds. Hardcore/Semi Hardcore/Casual guilds all took part because it was a fight club where everyone wanted to be the strongest.

Due to the combat changes and skill/build balance since the Stability change in 2015 there is a dominant ranged presence within WvW focusing mainly on pirateship fights creating a stale environment to fight in.

- Damage power creep.
- Stability change, then the amount of NEW CC added with HoT, with CC countering stability.. (same goes for aegis and the amount of unblockable).
- Condition spam.
- Amount of drop AoE and run away mindless skills, DH bow 5 promoting unskilled gameplay.

Why borderlands now are killing the population further?

- New players enter, can’t find a tag to follow as it’s not fun to command on borders due to the gimmicky terrain and different ground levels resulting in new players leaving instantly, why do new players go to borders opposed to EB when they first join in primetime? Because EB usually has a Queue of 50+ on high tier servers and even mid tier, I was on Ring of Fire for a bit and we hit up some monster 60 man queues there some nights.
- Players get bored of EB blob fights and there’s nothing for a random player on borders, which is basically all EB is at the moment if you don’t guild raid still.

Why have so many guilds left?

- Combat gameplay/balance is not fun to fight with or against, please ignore guild arena as that’s simply a who has the better push wins.
- Maps aren’t fun to run around, fight on, capture objectives and when you do capture an objective it’s meaningless.
- Some guilds can’t recruit because the flow of players is so low now and lots of people don’t enjoy to raid or want to play casually as guild raiding is mainly on desert borders which people despise. (Some people love it, don’t get me wrong but the majority don’t, i tried to promote it at the start I developed a foul taste in my mouth as the thought of it).

It all comes down to one thing on you fixing population, making WvW fun to play again for most players, making changes to bring back old fighting styles, making capturing objectives worthwhile, making players feel like they are making a difference, the removal of manually upgrading hurt alot of players, I remember 4 guildies going to capture a tower and hold it vs blobs as long as possible trying to get it upgraded in a tower defence playway stuff like that.

Bringing alpine back won’t fix population issues alone, but it will STOP more people leaving which is the first step you have to take. Stopping players leaving.

Combat and the function of WvW made it the best mass pvp game mode out there, sadly from 2015 it went downhill BUT it’s not too late. The WvW population can rise to what it once was, but first you have to stop people leaving, bringing back the Alpine maps and balancing combat once again.

The minds of WvW players are great here, they have good ideas and excellent suggestions, but months and years of verbal neglect leave us mad and upset more than anything.

I’ve made rage posts before because we all loved this gamemode and still are clinging on. You have until the new mass pvp games, Camelot, Crowfall etc come out, maybe less time, so about 6 months to turn it around before the final exodus is here and the once mighty servers are all low population, except national servers who will keep banging on doors for eternity x) Revert and adapt to the old generation of wvw players and you’ll have a brand new generation along with the old to guide and create with them once again and WvW can thrive as the greatest mmo pvp game mode around once again.

If I go to eb now and play melee warrior, I’m pretty useless and bored as hell, sitting back unable to do anything the meta is awful but moreso I can’t really make a difference between the lines at all, we can’t just spam one.

WvW player here.

Lower the cooldown on balanced stance (Guardians have just as much group stab with 28 second cd)
Change the berserk swrd main hand skill to immobilize but with it blocking projecticles in a fiery shield. (losin this in zerk mode is horrible)
Increase adrenaline gain on cleansing ire or hitting and enemy to 2 per hit/receiving hit
Increase standard toughness or scaling.
Reduce cooldowns on rage skills as currently are ineffectave due to such long cds.
Increase warrior passive regen.
Increase the resistance on movement impending skills from 33% to 40% due to being spammed by conditions on a 100% uptime basis especially as this is a damage skill now and can be ticking like 4k per tick without condi specialized build.(looking at you reapers in pvp) OR Just give us more passive/active condi cleanse, considering Warhorn is no longer traited in wvw and vanilla Warrior isn’t so great anymore for groups.

If these changes were to go ahead:
Nerf Warrior HP scaling, max at the moment is about 34k HP I think

I feel warrior wouldn’t be balanced if we added a strip stability direct, although a boon strip would be nice due to warrior lacking any self buffing other than PS or zerker mode entry.

Yeah man, I know, but I’ve triple checked and i’ve done it before with my auric sword and was fine, but the warhorn one isnt working :/ wvw player so i hate having to pve to be able to run our guil dbuild which is another issue itself, but to spend so much time mindlessly grinding for it to be bugged? i could have been gathering lootbags in eb.

spent 500 aurillium thinking that i screwed up but its actually a bug i bought Exalted warhorn core recipe and used ti but it doesnt show up in the crafting menu on neither Huntsman or Weaponsmith.

Can fanbois stop trotting out this nonsense, most GvG matches streamed got feeble audiences, and even the largest audience got far less than the largest PvP audience (Pax 15k), just because their “e-sport” audiences are pathetic compared to an actual “e-sport” doesn’t alter that “GvG” audiences were even more pathetic, and both of them were less than individual non-offical streamers get in other games.

Was more of an example as it’s well known names GvG/WvW far exceeded the PvP competitive scene. It still would if Anet didn’t try to shut down organized fighting in WvW.

Promote PvP.
Slowly change WvW in a way it pushes down any players and guilds playstyles.

This point is confusing. Are you trying to cap or are you trying to have awesome fights by allowing the other servers to have time to run back?

Sorry for the misundeerstanding, it’s meant as in, you beat off 2 servers, but spend too long trying to take down the lord to acctually capturer the castle, feeling, frustration can be huge.. especially if SM is fully upgraded :/ it isn’t designed to promote longer fights I don’t think, but just slow downthe process of everything, even worse when you’re recapping a border with your zerg because it takes 1hour or so to do it with a 5 man group as it’s usually t3 everywhere, honestly some lords take 1-2 minutes to kill :/ which i personally feel is too long, just make them tankier and don’t scale, it’s WvW not PvE it slows down the game mode

A friend and I were discussing the WvW changes and how GvG/Raiding is discouraged by Anet and there is actually a pattern, relating to PvE content as well as WvW.
The PvE Pattern:
Dungeon Speedrunning, players found ways to complete level 80 content within the fastest time possible, not mainly for records as fastest times, but gold runs per day.
Essentially this progressed into players learning to solo dungeons and sell the paths off.
This resutled in Citadel of Flame being nerfed for rewards, and now overall rewards nerfed so hard it’s pointless doing dungeons unless you want tokens, and even these have been lowered to 40 per run. (Sometimes dungeons were exploited, but Anet could have easily banned or fixed the exploits)
Queensdale Champ train: Self Explanatory, Players found an effective way of farming champs and exp, also looked good to players joining the game. Simply another method of earning gold which is now so scarce?
Silverwastes Farm: Another innovative way thought up by players and mastered by Aki who led the best Chest Farm raids but apparently got banned, then made less effective by changing what shovels are needed for.
How does this relate to WvW?
Redguard, every vet of WvW knows the name, Redguard essentially were one of the first for organized raiding in WvW, essentially the start of one of the most fun options within the gamemode World vs World.
It started a hardcore game mode within the game mode, voice comms, organized team compositions, builds synergizing with each other and individual and teamplay playstyles encouraged to be able to go head on with other organized raid guilds, in GvG/WvW Raiding along with outnumbered fights and more. Not neccesarily focusing on capturing and defending objectives but mass pvp on the way World vs World was advertised.
Guilds like TA, dF, LaG, Agg, vE etc, pushing the boundaries of raiding, a year on and are part of the GvG scene where the audience exceeds that of the PvP tournament arena net host which is supposedly classes as “esports”.
The Changes which ruin and demote all of these points above me:
Stability Change, a push to remove melee players being able to have a good chance of sustain in fights, outnumbered and GvG alike.
The P word (Pirate Ship) A meta promoted in which it essentially becomes AoE Wars 2 in fights, promoting backline fighting without an intensity of a higher requirement of skill to play.
Scaling of Lords: Is this PvE? You have an awesome fight between 3 servers and come out victorious in the castle then to find the lord is still up and the entire enemy zerg can run back at least 2 times between you being able to kill the lord.
Autoupgrades: Where players interaction was high with responsibility needed and a motivation to help your server thrown away due to everything being easier to defend without much effort, and harder to assault because something you backdoored and captured behind the enemies back is almost fully upgraded from nothing in 2 hours.
Essentially within WvW, player adaption and introduction of new gameplay within GW2 is not appreciated and from my point of view it looks like anyhting Arenanet themselves didn’t put into the game they do not want.
GW2 was also advertised as a game where there shouldn’t be a limit to being able to play the game how you like, an open world adapting and changing all the time, although when a player adapts it is pushed away and they try to change it.
Essentially the question I am asking is, if Anet don’t implement it themselves, do they not want it in the game?
sPvP: It is the smallest audience and playerbase within the game, over 20 servers including US, EU and CH ones with WvW in yet PvP is promoted moreso than PvE and WvW.

Avert Crisis, Simple Options

Number 1.
Put desert borders into Eotm and operate Eotm same as regular WvW, place alpine borderlands back into regular WvW, just brush up on the layout of ruins, or give it a makeover. = at least 50% of the WvW population coming back to play.

Number 2.
Same as above but revert back to old stability because the new classes are hitting us to infinity and beyond, along with any form of real combat not being allowed to take place, GW2 WvW shouldn’t be dodge the red sea of aoe circles! 100% WvW population comes back!

Number 3. Delete WvW result = our pain is gone.

+1 I don’t care what it is, I just want old WvW back, fights all the time, borderlands fights, not 500000 queues in EB because it’s so boring to go to bls to spend 25minutes recapping one keep because it’s been autoupgraded and takes so long to get anywhere because of the all this kitten I JSUT WANNA FIGHT

About 15 new cc skills for classes and not much help on melee classes now, even Warriors and Guardians got Condition/Ranged specializations (bow and torch.)

And to be completely honest.. I just want old fights back man, we’ll fight melee still but it’s 15x harder, no one wants to drop into the pirate ship meta.

Just revert back to old stability, change the new maps around abit, PPK if we need to, remove autoupgrades, remove skysplitter event and replace it with and open arena for GvG, mass fights, cut down the amount of borders and just home corners, who knows, but do something, there’s a kitten ton of suggestions from some great players on here, something CAN be done but is beingchosen not to..

Hey,

Think you’ve hit the nail on the head tbh, players do just want to know what the kitten is going on and how stuff will be fixed because right now most of us feel like we’ve/we’re getting screwed over and ignored as other areas of the game are getting new stuff whilst WvW is almost on it’s last legs for competitive wise gameplay.

Speldan camp glitch where the enemy lord turns allied so we cant’ cap.
All tower walls and platforms are buggy with textures and are always bugging out.
Klovan and Wildcreek wall are indestructable when Tier 2
People can shoot through walls.. COME ON!
In some of the borderlands towers walls are stacking on each other when upgrading, what even..
Delayed timer damage on rams hitting, it’s like 2 seconds..

And every other thing which isn’t working properly please.

Good job on the pve content though (i enjoyed that) but WvW is my GW2 Home and it sucks when stufffs bugging out 90% of the time.

You can’t play WvW without +5s? Maybe ya should stack swiftness and run supplies instead.

People can’t play because one feature was made hard to get which was a core part of the supply/siege/repair mechanics, accept it, move on work on organisation or running supply, jeez so much negativity because wvw got harder.

Also it;s halloween with Hot! Halloween lasts a few weeks ONCE PER KITTENING YEAR jeeheez 1+1 = 2 except HoT + Halloween = less server pop atm

WvW is not dead on Whiteside Ridge (tier 8 server) There’s people to fight during the day and prime time there’s always 2-3 guilds fighting others each night along with night duty there’s plenty of small scale fights to be had if people are looking for them. Each night since Saturday we’ve been raiding and there’s not been a single night where we don’t encounter fun fights (25+) And yes the fights on borderlands maps are incredibly fun with new tactics based on terrain and whatnot most excellent maybe y’all should consider transferring
