What is wrong with WvW in this game?

It seems every time I go to do any WvW, because hey, I’m a fan of keep sieges, it’s just… constant people wanting to trade keeps for exp/karma, and asking if any actual pvp is going to happen gets you told “You don’t have a tag so shut up or go do Shadow Behemoth”. I mean… what the hell? How is this a good environment in the game? I can run around on my own doing skirmishes with stragglers (In which case, why am I not just doing sPvP), but if I want an epic siege, I’m SOL, all the carebears took over WvW and nobody seems to care.

Adamant, move to Whiteside Ridge!! It seems that everyone on forums are saying there’s no one to fight, yet we’re in WvW each night with tons of people to fight and sieges to take place Also if you want to lead ya don’t necessarilyy need a tag tbh

You’re wrong, the forums are full of negatiity turning cancerlike, we might as well combine the unofficial ones with these lol.

Hardly anyone will try to think positively and anyone trying to stimulate productive conversation or give their thoughts that they enjoy it is shot down instantly, can’t people kitten off unless they have something nice to say anymore, since when did the WvW community become so toxic in 4 days.

Like, can you actually stop for a moment and truly immagine and visualize it how it would be riddiculous to siege such a big area AND REFRESH that siege?

That’s actually quite easy. I already built extensive siege in the air keep at every outer AND inner gate AND wall plus extra siege on the plateau in the west. It took me 4 minutes to refresh everything. Get to know the structure and you won’t find it so big anymore.

People arent willing to give it a chance, but all the people who like the xpansion arent on the forums crying they’re in game enjoying it

In Whiteside Ridge we had our first big fights in the new borderlands and it was awesome! Let me give you a run down.

Chapter 1.

Arborstone were slowly pushing down our southern towers and had took our Eastern keep before we’d noticed. I took my guild PRIM to defend the West Fire keep, as we trekked through the border somehow we managed to make it straight their without getting lost in the mists, as we entered in complete silence approaching cautiously from above on the stone bridges not knowing what to expect as we rounded the corner we found the French had breached outer and were pounding on the inner with a force of about 30. With only 12 Primigenians we leaped inside after bringing down a few who had separated from their main force.

The gate was going down fast, we decided to engage by leaping off the rafters from above down upon the gate, upon the fight beginning a reaper managed to somehow cleave through 2 of our soldiers in one fell swoop instantly putting them out of the fight. Falling back to the staircase behind us just above the outer gate we held our ground but the gate was down with around 8 of us left holding back the French forces. Suddenly they disengaged and moved to our lord room, with the Lord now being a power to be reckoned with they had only managed to lightly damage the lord as we resurrected our team I got a call from Sirius the leader of NINE asking if we needed any help.

Hell yeah we did.

As we moved to the lord room in silence the other Commander tag of Sirius appeared at our garrison slowly moving towards us with reinforcements. We had to hold the 13 or so of us vs the French forces who steadily gathered more numbers their full size had increased as they wore down our lord we grouped up and made the decision that if we die now the keep is lost, we had to hold the lord up until reinforcements arrived.

The only way to do that was to fight them head on to get their attention, with only a few of them noticing us buffing up suddenly we charged home! We cleaved through the first few enemies that we ran through putting them out of the fight instantly, but they were reacting and we were losing momentum, we had to regroup as a few of our Guardians went down we managed to push over them and rez to disengage with the whole team still up.

NINE was still minutes away. Minutes we didn’t have.

The French moved out of the lord room towards the west side of the keep on outer lord room to regroup, we pushed towards our keep lord and killed the stragglers, turned and faced our enemy. 30+ still stood against our team they were strong but hell are they taking our keep. Sirius was moments away navigating the outer keep entrance from the desert. Suddenly from out of nowhere a portal opened up and the horde of Arborstone poured through, we dodged back with Guardians and Elementalists holding us up in desperation with healing and defence buffs, metres away there was a miliseconds silence as we both stared at each other like almost comically. We charged down to 10 men we hit them again and again holding the line when we noticed, Sirius was about 50 steps away.

Disengaging we fell back towards the lava waterfall.
The enemy prepared to charge.
Sirius came through the inner door.
The French were stacking buffs.
Sirius arrived.

NINE brought around 20 men and with no time to waste they roared into the enemy and hacked through their backline. We held our position as the French frontline were now battering away at us oblivious to the danger from behind.

The fight was won, the keep was saved. Whiteside Ridge had prevailed once again.

Chapter 2.

With the battle won PRIM and NINE moved out after repairing keep so it was in a defendable state. Capturing shrines around the keep to grab the fire blessing one of our scouts reported enemy movement in the central jungle.

Looks like they decided to try to shoot down all our walls and gates again, the defenses were in such a state that they would be broken with one shot of the megacannons.

NINE were making their way through to the jungle from the South West of the desert but were in close proximity to us. With no single location of the Arborstone forces we entered the jungle blind when comically they appeared next to us running south but on the main platforms staircase. They hadn’t noticed us and more Whiteside Ridge had arrived. There was skirmishes going on all around the jungle 2v2s 4v3 roaming parties in full fights, CURE, OTAN and TasH battling it out in small fights as the 3 large groups were trying to gain a strategic advantage in location.

NINE arrived, not only them though the French FD guild were here also. The french numbers were well over 40 by now but they were splitting in a desperate attempt to charge the megalaser PRIM moved to help the small fights who were struggling and WSR (Whiteside Ridge) started working on the laser.

The Arborstone and FD group were still at large on the east side, PRIM took the high ground, NINE ran alongside us on the far right as we hunted the French. They kept running, Sirius managed to engage but a group of 15 or so ran off towards the North East of our border, leaving the fight we tracked them blind.

The Hunt begins.

For a good 5 minutes we chased them across the desert plains only following the wells left behind by Necromancer, we came to a lone hill with a single track leading up, walls rising either side. Rather than moving up towards the obvious trap with a brutal choke point at the top we skirted around near the NE camp and to their flank then finally we caught sight of the enemy group sitting on top of the hill waiting to ambush us.

This was it, the jungle fight was won by NINE and now the final enemy group was left in this desolate wasteland with no room for error. Taking 2 seconds the buff up our mesmer stealthed us and we engaged, side by side we fought pushing and pushing, our Elementalists had moved to our right flank and were bombing them hard whilst the enemy broke steadily. One final push our Swords danced a dance of death as we finished them off.

It was over.

The thing is i don’t like when im forced to buy an expansion… not having the new cool stuff is one thing not being at pair with the specs it a bit weird.

I migh be to carried a bit by hate to the game atm i dont have problems to admit it, but also i dont have afraid to hide my opinions to, the only class i like to play on WVW feels way to underwhelming atm against the new specs even, so i migh give some time to mettas settle down.

Remmember DD was only nerfed when they started to apear at tournaments, before that everyone said there were balanced when some one tried to say they had a bit to much.

Put it this way, if ya knuckle down and get on with your stuff in game practice practice practice focus on the good, play new stuff more and more until it’s second nature like the old maps and the new is every day mcfun you’ll easily be alot stronger in game and enjoy it again. It was worse when they did that initial build change a few months back and wvw become necromancer land for the first few days lmao

As much i loved the new bl and it feels it as alot room for improvements, i can not go to WvW, becouse im at huge disadvantage since i dont like the new specs and how Anet manages the class balance well Anet is worst company at game balance… my battle atm is trying not to reisntall gw2 since i shall not buy HoT.

Get good and learn to beat the new specs, plus hardly anyone the mfull or is any good at playing them in wvw lol.

Maybe WvW lack players cause we got no good new content. No new masteries, no build templates, no WvW skins, no auto loot. I mean, how hard is it to give wvw’ers auto loot in their WvW masteries? I had to bore myself with PvE in order to get auto loot which turned out to not be working in WvW. So yea, i can understand why WvW’ers are kittened.

Thx for spelling out you knowledge thoug. What should we have done without you?

WvW is not about rewards, it’s about the experience and overall game mode of mass conquest/ppt/warlike fights, rewards are a side track, WvW players have been begging for new and variety this maps gives us it. As soon as we get what we want people get mad as they think it’s another EotM map, newsflash, it’s not.

Go into the map and play for 3+ hours alone or with a group, you’ll eat your words, oh and check out the new pve content even I’m enjoying it as previously a pure WvWer

I play on Whiteside Ridge Tier 8 server clased as medium pop but we all know it’s low pop but improving over this past few month, the new autoupgrades hold back blobs and makes it harder to K train. We have around 3 bigger main wvw guilds holding it down along with the reset of the community and for us it’s a huge advancement, we don’t have to worry about upgrading and running supps blah blah for upgrading as previously it took away much needed mapower.

In terms of the nightcap everything going to T3 EVERYTHING WILL TURN T3 AT SOME POINT IN THE DAY there’s gona be times each day that things will be left un touched, even in the biggestservers dealwith it.

The new map is kitten awesome and helps low pop servers.

Hiya,

After seeing all this negativity on the forums it’s actually quite depressing to log on the forums now but let me get to the point.

I’m a WvW main player, WvW not EotM before anyone starts the finger pointing.

AWESOME JOB ON HOT.
- The new PvE maps are amazing once you take the time to explore them as a guild.
- The flying brings a whole new experience which I’ve never had in game like this before and flying with friends to new places is great fun.
- Hunting for our guild hall was a real challenge and co-ordinating capturing it was enjoyable and gave us a real sense of achivment once we completed it.
- Masteries give a new sense of goals to work towards and brings variety to gameplay.

WvW: My home
- The new map is god kitten amazing, the look and terrain is incredibly designed and just requires players to think abit more.
- There’s lots of negativity about playerbase dropping off, people don’t like change if they will leave because they aren’t willing to learn and try the new maps or adapt to changes then they aren’t really the types of people we want in the game. I agree there’s some things in WvW that were implemented which cause physical pain like SIEGE DISABLERS and the stab change and other small things altho the AC line of sightis ruined now the extra fortified tower kind of counter it.
- The tier 3 gates and autoupgrading, my personal “blobstoppers” jk this is a great improvement on lower tier servers not getting screwed so hard and makes k training not so easy.
- The WvW population has NOT decreased, people are playing new content like any expansion, the same as when CoD 4 goes to CoD 5 new stuff for people to try out and work towards, give it a week and WvW will be full up again.
- “The new maps are too big” NO the new maps are awesome it’s hard to take keeps aganst defenders, defenders have time to get to objectives. The large expanse of open fight areas are what players have wanted for years for large scale open battles. And wandering around them this weekend has given me lots to be excited for once WvW is full again.
- Guild upgrades, we haven’t been able to use them yet but they look like they will prove to bring new element to objective based fights/defences which deviates from the usual.

There’s so much I haven’t done yet and this is all so great so farm, the new specializations I tried in PvP so much fun, not for everyone but not everyones the same! Also in the past it’s been rare I enjoyed PvE apart from it being a means to gear up for WvW and never liked the living story content every 2 weeks due to repetitive grinding, but this is now a huge step in the right direction!

So much i have missed out so please add all your positive experiences and things which you enjoy below! (No negativity pls)

Maybe it has something to do with them moving guild missions reset a day ahead, although I don’t see how this should have an effect on a reason for WvW reset moving.

I’m sorry Anet but this I really disagree with, people hype up for reset nights during the day at work, we use reset weekends as the time to raise morale with big fights and lots of community effort from our server (Whiteside Ridge tier This gives us an entire day less of fighting and contesting WvW :/

Also overall WvW population will be less due to people going out Saturday and Friday nights

Hey,

Saw a couple of threads now not happy with the fountain stealth, I’m curious as to whether they remain stealthed when SM flips?

Example “sm about to be capped in lord room, mesmer runs in stealth, castle flips, will they stay stealthed?” If so there is going to be huge problems with them hiding at inner completely undetectable for around 2m30 if they use their own stealth :P

It’s fair enough having to chase thiefs and mesmers around sm because of their class but chasing mesmers with 2mins of stealth on them will be chaos xD

Please review siege disablers

Currently having no cooldown time on disablers or them lasting so long is making assaulting even paper towers excruciatingly painful as well as frustrating on a whole new level.

Don’t get me wrong, I love good long sieges and assaults, even failing after hours of work trying to take something down it’s still good fun, same as if we spend 1-3 hours and manage to capture, but for he sake of enjoyment disablers are such a killyjoy :/

I’ve been attacking t1 and t3 towers this month and with full supply or even 30-40 supps enemies are just spamming disablers. Last night we got disabled 15 times by one guy, I know what people will say "you should have blocked it or kept him off wall, but it’s impossible to stop a full stance warrior disabling again and again, this is in a tower with 400+ supply..

Even if we have a cooldown time on siege disablers or siege being disabled I feel very strongly against them, there’s already the option of trebs behind gates and mass ac fire but disablers just make it too much and kill the fun imo.

If other players could give their opinions I’m all ears, but I just hope a dev picks up on this because I really feel they need some kind of nerf, on top of this when HoT comes and there will be no PvD damage it’s gonna be a real struggle when we end up being disabled 5+ times at a t1 tower

Hiya,

Just wondering if there will be a enter and leave guild hall button like in WvW and PvP on the Guild panel?
I think this will make it easier getting to guild halls and being used as a main place to hang out and do their day to day stuff (crafting, MF, TP, and other stuff).

Personally I won’t want to have to run to the guild hall location to enter and leave as it’s much more effiecient to port in and out, (like WvW)

Maybe this could be implemented in guild upgrades for the future or along with HoT

Hey!

The Primigenia is a WvW focused guild now expanding into the realms of PvE, we’re one of the biggest WvW ones in Whiteside Ridge but would now like to run a bigger PvE community!

We have a community teamspeak and I would say one of the best guild communties as it stands with events and more happening almost every night and weekend

We start running guild missions Monday night but I want other PvE leaders and commanders to run more PvE events as lots of people want to do them I just can’t run WvW and PvP alone along with PvE

Soooooo, the guild currently has around 30 members active at each point in the day, 50 at weekends/evenings along with 80/130 logging in each day to play

No, we want new people into real WvW especially for lower population servers, I don’t want people just thinking WvW is a pure farm thing and not experiencing the real thing. This would have a hugely negative effect for those who really want to play WvW.

Hey,

I think it would be a good idea to remove trebs being able to hit through doors from behind gates especially with the upcoming guild claiming updates.
It’s too easy to defend against a group if attacking by gates, this being said I find it frustrating assaulting a gate with a treb behind it but it is also kind of lame defending using one.

Attack a T3 tower and theres a treb behind it, there’s 2 options take the walls down or attempt to hit the treb inside which can be hell when its on the ground
It’s fine if its sitting on a depo or inside to shoot out of the tower but firing against a gate makes it nigh impossible to attack front doors when with there’s not many players online in the server.

Or just don’t allow trebs to fire through gates or to damage their own. It’s different firing from somewhere else covering tower gates and stuff but trebs behind gates is boring and demoralizing

That being said we’ll stick to breaking walls in these situation

If anyone has strategies on avoiding treb aoe effects behind gates please let me know

Been waiting to see a WSR post like this haha WSR is a great place to be with awesome commanders if a few leecher commanders that only know how to command LA hopefully there is people that want to share that unquenchable desire to foght on as a wsr player amd never give in!

Hiya im not sure where to post this but im one of wsr commanders and due to the nightmarecourt toxic things spawning it makes it increasingly difficult to clear or get the npc on our side yesterday we genuinely couldnt clear the ogres in one attempt as they had been killed and replaced by toxic alliance pleasr fix this and the new event’s in wvw I speak for most wvw players, rhanks for your time if you manage to aee this

So basically whiteside ridge and vabbi have been stuck in the bottom tier and only really face Arborstone or Fissure of Woe, vabbi always get crushed at bottom hopelessly WSR finish 2nd everytime but we could fight with some sort of hope and faith against AS and FoW, but now… Within 10minutes of the reset last night EB and most of the BLS were controlled by RoS they had more than 3 zergs/blobs in EB and at least one big one each bls i dont know how vabbi are feeling but from WSR point of view it is useless what we do, i would offer a solution but i know not any, I commanded about 2 hours after reset trying to figgure out a way to beat them and managed to take a keep against it with an awesome plan but one keeep being taken in another 10 mins is stupid :/ So really often i dont believe or blame it on lack of players but how RoS are in our matchup idk but this is going to be a week of people leaving WSR and hell for commanders, (considering there is only about 5 active commandr a day if we’re lucky)

This is a fabulous idea I would love to go and smash some PvE “pros” with my guild while they try amd grind out t3 cultural armor!
