8 dragonfish candies
22 slices of candied dragon roll
8 dragonfly cupcakes
16 kralkachocolate bars
800+ pieces of zhaitaffy
and those nourishment only last for 20 min… omg
i dont know issit too fast open the coffer then wont come out the ticket or the drop rate is kitten low and not worth it at all..

It was like this with Halloween, Christmas, Flame and Frost, South Sun, and now Dragon Bash. EVERYONE of them with the same ol’ omg rng ripoff threads…

It will not stop until you stop tossing money at them, because of people continuing to support this method it will never cease to exist you all have no one to blame (not even ANET/NCSOFT) but yourselves.

So, rich dragon coffers have skins and regular dragon coffers (rarely) have drop chances. Anyone who reads this would assume rich dragon coffers are the way to go, but out of my 35 chests i got 0 tickets. A guildy got 100 chests and found two tickets. So even if we are generous here and say “rich” coffers have a 5% drop rate…..wonder whats the drop rate on the regular ones that makes it “rare”.

We are all lead to believe that these rich coffers would be a decent way to getting some skins but in the end its the same low abyssal RNG rates as everything else. Why can’t Anet just understand that if they just sold us the kitten skins themselves like the Braham and Rox skins they would still make their money and we’d be just that much more willing to buy gems? If you seriously want my money this bad, just sell me what i want and I’ll buy it, plain and simple.

How many times do they have to do an RNG box before people GET IT that the drop rates are “low”. Really Low. REALLY REALLY LOW.

Serious as a heart attack did you sleep through the last 2 rounds of boxes? What POSSIBLE previous experience could lead you to think that you’re bound to get a ticket?

Coming from a game which people spent thousands of dollars on gambling packs every time a new shiny was released, and reading threads like this where people that should have already learned (southsun crates, etc) I’m thoroughly convinced that gambling packs are a great way to make money for MMO companies.

It’s too bad. PT Barnum was right (back then, even, and birthrates these days….. much higher….).

I’ll buy cool looking skins straight out of the gem store whenever they are available in that way. I’ve bought a few things as presents that way. I won’t ever buy gambling boxes, no matter how cool the shinies. I doubt the amount of players buying tons of gambling boxes will ever decrease to the level where outright selling skins is more profitable, but I can hope, right?

Well for one I’ve never done it before and for two I believe we all thought that the new “Rich” coffers was probably a step in the right direction….jokes on us!

One would think you would know better than to waste money by now.

I won’t be buying a single rich coffer. I really wanted a Scelerite weapon ticket and spent probably around $100 trying.

Never ever again. As much as I love dragons and would love that staff, I’m done with RNG lottery boxes. 100% done.

And if this continues I’ll likely go back to Minecraft and my console games. My drop luck is so abysmally low already that I will never again play that lottery for my hard earned money.

From my understanding this is a month long event. In which case it is likely that you are not meant to have the proper odds to get tickets on the very first day. Unlike Southsun these coffers are much easier to obtain. That is the major improvement to the system and should be given at least a week (maybe less by dedicated farmers) to determine the if the drop rates are too low.

As for spending money on the coffers, It’s definitely not something I would recommend doing on the first day. Especially if the intention is not to support the game (whither that’s what actually happens) but instead to power your way to a skin. Again, you’ve got a month of events in which case you are likely to be rewarded coffers along the way.

Be patient, give it some time to work. ANET is making improvements on the system based on feedback.

I think the better question is why do it on the first day or even a couple of hours after the patch. You might just end up with the ticket from a regular coffer and then what are you going to do with the extras?

Arena Net reads these forums, and it is NC Soft that demands the RNG boxes. The developers aren’t the ones we should be complaining to; we need to petition NC Soft directly otherwise all these complaints are meaningless. Not because Arena Net doesn’t care, but because they are powerless to do anything about it.

Publishers control developers, not the other way around. A direct line to the developer will have zero influence on their publisher.

This. Also, these are just skins (or minis) that you’re looking for, sure some of them are pretty cool, but what do you expect? These chests are not going to have a 10% drop rate, that really wouldn’t make any sense. There are only 3 ways that I can think of them doing this:

1) like they did in gw1, where you had a 0.1% chance for a drop after a 20-30 min dungeon or a particular hard boss. I really just want to try to inform people of how some things used to be

It is the same thing as playing the lottery, no one is forcing you to play or spend your real money, and at least you get a (albeit bad) consolation prize. Spending money in gw2 does not guarantee anything. You could open 200 chests and not get anything, that’s part of the random chance.

I have 2 comments on all this topics:

1. A-net is deffinetly improving on the RNG boxes: First the Fused weapons, only avaible trough BL-chests. The next one were the Soutshun Weapons, avaible trough Rare drop and Gem Store. Finally Dragon Festival, Gem Store and rare drop from a very common drop.

2. Do these boxes really matter? You don’t HAVE to buy them, they are only skins. I don’t buy them, but the people who do buy them give me free content updates.
+ This is very harmless, what if we all stop buying them and Nexon decides, we don’t make enough monies let’s put OP weapons in the store!

This is the dumbest argument. Games are made to be fun. People find obtaining Skins FUN. Heck Anet said that the rewards focus of the game is cosmetic. Now all the coolest stuff is locked behind gambling. Yes. it matters.

The regular dragon coffers are all over the place in the open world. Plus there are a ton for sale on TP for about 15 silver. They have a chance as well just not as good as the gem store ones according to the patch notes. The one thing I strongly disagree with the gem store RNG chest is that they don’t post the odds.

Rich Dragon Coffers contain all the same items as the Dragon Coffers* *that drop commonly from Dragon Bash enemies, but have better chances at rare items.

As I said earlier if they sold tickets outright they would lose their novelty because a ton of people would have them. It would end up looking close to everyday armor/weapons. People would use it for awhile then shelf it because people would be running around all over with it and it wouldn’t feel special anymore.

Can’t really say I agree with 2 being a combination of 1 and 3. Call me a fanboy, but 1 gave you a special holiday repeatable quest in a dungeon, where you got appropriate loot, being candy, booze and party items useable for titles, which was the other major part people were looking to achieve besides the skins they wanted.
With this event, there’s no extra content where this takes place, we need to enter the same maps we’ve seen since August, maps where 0 changes have been made to (pretty ‘living’ world, right?), to kill mobs and hologram spawns. There’s no additional reward to it besides grey junk which is useless, pretty much every world drop besides rares/exotics/crafting items are vendor trash. The only places which have a small chance of producing a valuable item (lodestone or T6 material) are being camped by people wanting to farm the boxes. There’s no fun or variation available to make money here, if you at least want to gain something. GW was totally different, there was a major money maker, but there were loads of ways of doing it AND you had other ways which were enjoyable and made you enough money to help you on your track for titles, your wanted skins, etc…
There’s nothing in THIS game that makes titles worth going for, hell, most of the players don’t even bother with the nonsense titles as nobody even sees them, there’s no achievement in most of the titles.

This is bullkitten though. Farming the free way, 4 coffers in a few minutes but 1 candy each. What in the kitten is this ?

Not at all. I imagine that the reason people are blowing their wigs over them, farming every spot in open world the second the patch launched was to get these items which are indeed cosmetic novelty items.

Spend a bunch of money and gamble it away for nothing, or spend a bunch of time and gamble it away for nothing. Pick your poison?

Right now cool skins go to people with lots of disposable income rather than people who have earned them playing the game (no, farming and getting lucky is not playing the game)…so any argument about them being truly prestigious or novel is kind of lost. When I see a fused weapon, I know I’m looking at someone with lots of cash to throw away on gambling boxes or someone that got lucky…not someone that is particularly skilled at the game or has accomplished anything of merit.

50 normal boxes (farmed while doing holo mobs achiev) and I already got a pet and ticket.

Its about people that spend real money NCsoft and ANet dont give a crap about novelty its about money they would maybe loose a bit of money if they sold them out right but alot of people would spend the same amount if they could buy these tickets anyways.They could still get thier money and the people who pretty much support this game would be happy it would be win win for everybody but instead alot of people are leaving this game because of the RNG Gem Items that take so much cash and it gets annoying for anybody who spends real cash and dont get the neat things they deserve for supporting this game.

Well I’ll agree with you about the holiday quests being…lets say more unique, but to be fair gw1 has been around a lot longer. I forget when each event was added to the game, but when only a few holidays (christmas and the jade festival?) had major graphical changes to certain towns, and those could be reused each year, I’m sure that they had more time to work on each thing there. Don’t get me wrong I loved the different holiday weekends from gw1, and I still have lots of different alcohol and sweets sitting in my vault, but gw2 seems to “up the graphical ante” more. Hopefully when these holidays repeat next year, since all of that work will be done, they can focus on more meaty content.

Also I’ll agree whereas gw1 “end game” was either pvp or title grinding, here it seems to be either pvp or legendary grinding, as almost all achievements happen through just normal play.

Heck in gw1 the maps (besides the towns) never changed. Heck the enemies never changed either, just their loot tables. With the addition of a couple of holiday quests, nothing was added for gw1 either. I haven’t logged on yet, so I can’t say much, but maybe the problem is Anet’s approach to constantly put out something small and new each month. I don’t know, I do appreciate that I don’t need to spend 50-100 hours to get a certain skin or enough booze for a title (though I’m gonna need to do that to get the 100,000 candy :/)

Gotta say, that $40 loss is all on you. They’ve been doing RNG boxes for awhile and everyone has been complaining about the terrible drop rate and how unfair it is. I was burned for the last time with the last RNG box so I swore never to spend one red cent more on them.

Sucks you have to get burned to realize this, but the blame rests solely on you at this point, the RNG box is not new to this patch. It is what it is, stop spending money on it, that’s why they keep doing it!

Why would you do this? Honestly, you knew it was RNG based and yet you knowingly spent money anyway. You have zero cause to complain. None. You want to blame someone, find a mirror.

I simply refuse to buy gems and play their lottery. It’s really pretty simple. But as long as you are going to play their game you really cannot cry about the outcome. Especially for something as trivial as a skin. We aren’t even talking about stats here…but a skin. Please get ahold of yourselves and stop with the melodrama.

I think arenanet are not behind this. A lot of people say that it is NCsoft. I don’t know for sure, but from my experience with arenanet, i don’t think they would come up with this kind of cheap sale offers…

Frankly, I don’t believe for a second that ArenaNet is behind the ridiculous “Grind out 10,000” pinata’s for a backpiece mentality, or the insulting “Pay us money over and over and over again for a slim chance of getting what you want” store mechanics that we’re seeing more and more of. This is classic NCSoft “Screw the Players, they’re too stupid to know any better” meddling, and it’s damaging the game more and more.

Over and over again, we’re seeing fun and interesting content released by the ANet Dev Team, only to have it ruined by miserable “do the same few things till your eyes bleed” grind mechanics and store setups that effectively boil down to “Keep pouring money into the slot machines and pray for luck.” And it’s getting progressively worse as time goes on.

I am in full agreement that this needs to stop for the good of the game. Unfortunately, I think at this point it’s going to require getting a different publisher for the game. NCSoft has demonstrated repeatedly and emphatically that they have zero respect for their developers or their playerbases, and that they are extremely comfortable lying to and exploiting them until they are no longer useful, at which point they are discarded like yesterdays trash. As long as they’re involved, I don’t see this grind and gamble trend going away until they inevitably kill the game, just as they’ve done to so many others.

Why buy it when I can just get it in game?. Buying it is just taking the easy way out and I learn that from last event not getting any good results. I am not saying it is a bad thing to buy it, but it is not worth to buy. If you happen to be rich in the game then use gold for gems for that stuff instead of money.

Not entirely true. In a GW2guru interview about Dragon Bash they specifically mentioned they significantly increased the rate at which tickets drop…and that’s obviously not the case. ANet has been talking circles around the issue, while doing nothing about it.

Significantly doesn’t mean 100%. It could be twice the drop rate of regular coffers or twice the drop rate of the Southsun crates. Significant is a relative term.

Let’s says coffers and crates have a 1% chance for a ticket. Rich coffers have a 10% chance. That’s probably considered significant. Now RNG plays a role and it is easily in the realm of likelihood that you can buy 25 rich coffers and not get a ticket. A 1% drop rate is significantly greater that a 0.1% drop rate. A 25% drop rate is significantly greater than a 1% drop rate. The term significant is misleading.

THIS RNG event isnt that bad. They are way cheaper on the gemstore, and can be obtained in lots of ways, like through the moa racing i think? but definitely from holographic dragon projectors. Stop complaining. I even bought some boxes and got some pretty good stuff. Plus you can get jade weapon tickets not just from boxes, someone got it from a pinata apparently lol.
