People can magically tell who has done bad things just so they can go and invade their parties and throw abuse?

That’s the problem … if people weren’t kicking and abusing others for how they play, there wouldn’t BE any party invasions and abuse. Intolerance spreads, now your getting a spoonful, not because you deserve it, but because it’s the behjaviours that people have been exposed to .. because of play how I tell you attitudes. I’m playing how I want, in my own party that I create. People join and expect me to put up with how they want to play. They ignore my request in the lfg, they don’t care about pinging gear and somehow we are on equal footing when it comes to being in the wrong. I don’t think so. They can make their own parties the same as I make mine. I’m not forcing anything on them, they can choose to join my group and adhere to my rules or they can choose to make their own group with their own rules. Never have I joined their groups and told them off for running terrible builds or doing stupid crap because I respect their rules, now all I do is expect that in return and I get abuse hurled at me and labelled an elitist. Lol.

That’s a nice story but play how I tell you people have been hating on play how I want people since BEFORE the LFG thing was established.

That’s irrelevant and doesn’t take away from the fact that this is happening.

I’m not arguing it’s not happening … I don’t even get the point of bringing it up.

Here is an interesting mind experiment … make a game where 100% of the people that play it play how they want … would that game have all of these hateful threads about elitists, etc….? You guys aren’t recognizing that cause and effect here. You slap a guy, he slaps you back. Now your complaining you got slapped? That’s some good revisionist history there.

Sorry not seeing how me making my own party, minding my own business and then having people ignore my requirements and abuse me = my fault.

Of course not … you haven’t done anything to promote intolerance in the game ever ><

Personally I’m not motivated by some randoms hurling abuse at me due to my lfg to then in turn go hurl abuse at some other non-related randoms and thier lfg. And somehow I think most people are rational enough to be the same, unless of course what you are saying is they are incredibly irrational.

Basically how I feel as well. If I’m taking the time out to be specific on my lfg, then I expect the people joining to have both read AND met the requirements of it. Failing to do one of those is disrespectful in my opinion and makes me believe that you think you are above me or whoever the lfg poster is. When I join someone’s lfg I do my best to play by how their post was and try to not step on anyone’s toes.

Funny thing is that the “evil-elitists” tend to be more forgiving of PHIW builds most of the time when they pug (if their lfg is not requiring more “evil-elitists” that is). I’ve been in many pug groups that will insta-kick you if your PHIW is different than their PHIW. I’ve been kicked for stacking before because they felt that they didn’t have enough dps to make the stacking method efficient enough when there clearly was. I’ve carried nomad/cleric Charrdians through Arah and have had them complain the whole time, did I kick them…no but I REALLY wanted to!

I pulled out the sentence that makes the biggest impact here. If no one kicked anyone ever, we wouldn’t have these issues. Instead, we have a culture of people kicking for any reason because it’s how Play how I tell you people dealt with people that didn’t conform to their standards of play. Intolerance.

I’m not suggesting that any specific person here is guilty of these practices but your example is one to follow. Do you have to carry gimps often? Maybe. But if all people followed your example, you can be assured that if you joined a PUG, you wouldn’t be kicked.

I’m in a GW2-Group on facebook (which is already a bad idea) and if someone asks for a build and you recommend them meta-builds (and explain what’s so good about them) you have at least a handful of people who will jump up you saying that the berserker-meta is kitten, you’re only kissing dirt when playing berserker, random insults.. The best one I saw was “berserker-kitten”.

Guess you didn’t pay much attention to the rest of the post and went straight for the one that applied to you the most. =D

Most of the people doing the kicking are the PHIW people to the “evil-elitists”. Inb4 you say, “Well the elistists must have been trying to tell them how to play :<.” No most of the time it’s us giving them a suggestion and they in turn automatically go on the offensive and start swearing/cursing and kicking people because their fps was just cut in half.

Your not paying attention to the whole thread … if play how I tell you people weren’t kicking people to start with, the people you label PHIW wouldn’t be kicking anyone NOW.

How do you know that they started it?

Aren’t we the root of all evil?

Oh yeh.

I think I may need to write something on it.

@Obtena: So you’re basically saying they do it out of spite. I would never kick random people who didn’t do anything wrong, no matter how often I was kicked for whatever reason. If they do, they’re simply kittens.

I’m saying they do it because it’s a learned behaviour that is accepted practice.

Because people who believe in playing how they want don’t care what builds people use.

You must be omniscient or something. Even my grandmaster mindbrain cannot read the minds of countless angry PHIW’ers raging at me every time I put up an lfg.

Again that’s an assumption.

Again that’s an assumption.

And it’s a good one too. I don’t see posts complaining that people aren’t using the builds they want. I DO see posts from people complaining of people who don’t use full DPS are selfish, noobs, etc.. Intolerance from a specific group.

I mostly get kicked when I play my warrior in a pug dungeon or fractal and encounter a shout heal warrior who refuses to exchange one shout for a banner. I always ask, and normally they are accompanied with a guildie that is instantly viciously aggressive concerning the matter. “No! He is shout heal. He is keeping us alive. Banners are kitten.”

Making me the PuG banner kitten because shout heals too stronk.

Take a second and re-evaluate that statement. ANYONE can be the culprit of this if you’re using that logic and who is to say that the “evil kitten elitists” were they ones that started this movement? Was it recorded in video game history, can you find the source? Did the Prophet state this in his/her teachings?

“Don’t do unto others what you would not have done to you” seems to be something those people don’t care about then.

If people get kicked because they didn’t read the lfg or tried to do something entirely else than the group/not being cooperative/whatever, kicks are acceptable and the kicked people need to look at themselves.
If people get kicked without reason, the kickers are kittens. If those kicked people now start kicking people without reason too, they’re also kittens. Being kicked without reason does not mean it is accepted behaviour, but rather wrong behaviour of those who kick.

It’s not a stretch of the imagination to think that people who play a wider range of builds are more tolerant to other people that play a wider range of builds than people that preach “only DPS” approach to PVE. It’s HIGHLY unlikely that the practice of kicking people from teams started with a random bunch of people playing non-DPS optimized builds.

Further evidence is just historical forum posts. Mocking people, discussions in Guardian forum, etc… it’s pretty evident of who are the tolerant people and who are not. I don’t think my hypothesis is all that far from what happened. If a person is intolerant, they are more likely to act on intolerance than someone that is tolerant. Some DPS-only PVE people don’t come across as the most tolerant bunch from what I can see ingame and in the forums. Is that so unreasonable to make that connection?

Would you consider this person tolerant?

He definitely isn’t an elitist.

I’m not speaking in absolutes here. Are there tolerant elitists? Yeah. Are there intolerant PHIW? Yeah.

I think what is missing here is recognizing that there are certain values that people hold that impact their actions. OK, that’s abstract:

If you value your time ingame, it’s fair to say you want to do things as fast as possible, so you likely adopted DPS only approach in PVE. You team with people but they don’t necessarily value their time as much as you do. It’s likely the guy who values his time is not happy.

The more that people value time, the more they are affected by other players. They are more likely to act on that intolerance than someone who’s values are NOT affected by other players. It’s not a hard concept to understand but it could be difficult to accept if you happen to value time or some other value that is affected by other players.

Don’t you consider it intolerant (or at least wrong) to join parties where you aren’t clearly wanted?

People doing that aren’t tolerating wishes of other people.
