Let me check, based on the typical Dungeon and Dragons roles… we have Warriors which fill the typical heavy plate Fighter role, Guardians which fill the Paladin style role, Elementalists which fill the Mage style role, Rangers which fill the… Ranger role, Necromancers which fill the Warlock style role, Mesmer which kinda fill the Psionic role, Thief are of course the Rogues, and Engineers are the Artificers.

The game could use a Druid and/or Shaman style class (tuned with nature, morphing abilities), and Monk class (hand to hand fighter in light armor), and possibly a Cleric style class (a caster relying on divine spells rather than on raw elemental magic).

I’ll pop in this thread again. 2 ideas stemming from previous posts/ etc.

Chronomancer – (GWUtopia anyone?)

and as per

based on the typical Dungeon and Dragons roles…

Green Whisperer (a combination bard & druid whose music is especially effective against animals & eventually plants) (DR311 p70)
(Progression: +1 Bard Caster level –and– +1 Druid Caster level. Class levels stack with Bardic Music ability & Bardic Knowledge checks. )

Bard and Druid combo-deal. Could rock staff, wand, foci, axe, dagger (though overly available) etc. (mace? there’re charts around showing who can use what weapon, and theres some lack in a few that could be addressed.)

I don’t know how exactly either would fit into the GW2 archetypes, but I’m sure some creative people with more time than I feel giving could flesh some out.

Since Guardian took over a chunk of Dervish from GW1, if they ever added Dervish to GW2 it’d have the perfect potential of being a shapeshifting profession. Doesn’t really need to be nature based when we have sylvari and norn~ They could use the power of the gods to either turn into avatars or spice it up and turn into monsters based on each god.

If they add hand-to-hand they should give it to Thief.

Basically give it the support role of a Engineer but more melee and poisons.
It could throw out bottles like a Skritt Lobber and buff allies or hurt enemies.

The focus on melee over technological items, like guns, would give it a more fluid form of combat compared to the Engineer’s “plop down turret” style of fighting, which is still fun in its own right.

The new profession needs to be a Soldier with direct opposite theme to the Guardian. There are 3 Adventurers and 3 Wizards but only 2 Soldiers. Of the Archetypes Adventurers and Wizards have 3 Themes based loosely around Good/Neutral/Naughty.
Soldiers have good and neutral but they are missing naughty.
Fire, Bleeding, Light, Blind, Weakness, Vulnerability are taken up by Warrior and Guardian. This leaves us with a dark themed Soldier with Confusion, Darkness, Water and Poison like abilities as the gap that needs filling.

I would like to see if they could develop something like a “Patrol of Grunts” …say 5 melee based sub-characters (total damage about the same as a warrior/guardian). Could have a basic mix of melee and elementary ranged skills….low individual damage but as a “swarm” could hold their own. Almost like a mini 5 man group which by default all follow the “corporal” whom you basically control most of the time, or can on a limited basis be individually controlled for a short time. (an example “troop” could be a corporal (sword and pistol), two riflemen, one greatswordsman, and a melee/medic).

Class: Valkyrie

Heavy Armor
Two hands: Longbow, Greatsword
Main Hand: Sword, Spear<New> ( 600-900 range)
Off Hand: Shield for Defensive abilities, Sword for Offensive, Warhorn for group support and buffs.

Focus on high mobility, leaping and jumping around, buffing and CHUCKING kittenING SPEARS AT PEOPLE. A bit robust because of the heavy armor but lacking many true defensive abilities bar the mobility and leap abilities.

This hero may have been slightly adapted from a certain HON hero. But only because it was the best HON hero.

Alternatively,

Class: Hungerer,
Armor: Light/Medium
Weapons – Claws <New>, Daggers, 2H-Axe, Mace – all Melee. Can dual wield axes as ‘throwing axes’ for ranged.

A do-or-die berserker style character that relies on lifesteal to survive in the front lines, over heavy armor. The best way to remain alive is to engage as many enemies as possible, as quickly as possible. Possibly attacks faster at lower health. A bit like a necro in someways, but a lot more emphasis on melee, no minions and not so aoe/condition centric.

Just my two coppers for something other than the tired old ‘please port gw1 professions’.

I’m thinking we’ll get Tengu as a playable race whenever Crystal Desert opens up, and along with it we’ll get a Tengu-flavoured profession.

I’m thinking it’ll be a heavy armour, mid-health profession to round out the soldiers.

Profession: Brave
Style: Kind of a tribal warrior (thing the Caromi and Avicara tengu warriors from GW Prophecies)
Weapons: Daggers, 1H swords, warglaives (new), 1H axes, shortbows, shields.

Profession mechanic: Spirit. As the Brave stays in combat, a bar gradually fills from 0% to 100%. The more enemies that are near the Brave, the faster it fills. Veterans will fill it faster than normal mobs, elites will fill it even faster, and champions and legendaries will fill it fastest.

The bar has four skills that light up at 25/50/75/100%. Casting a skill drains the amount of that tier from the bar, and each Spirit skill has a separate cooldown.

Spirit skills and the Brave’s utilities would be geared mainly towards fighting back against enemies that target you. Some utilities could be:

Shimmer (Combat): Reflect the next melee attack to hit you within the next 3 seconds. You also apply bleeding and gain retaliation.

Flight (Cunning): Gain stealth (3s) and leap to the target area, spending all energy. If the destination is lower than your current altitude, you gain vigour and your next attack confuses the target. If your destination was higher, you will block incoming attacks for 2 seconds after landing.

Wasp Nest (Combat): Channel for one second. For the next three seconds, you catch all ranged attacks. When Wasp Nest wears off, you launch all caught attacks back at their sources. Landing a kill with Wasp Nest grants you Fury for a short duration.

Insanity Pinion (Tribal Medicine): Confuse yourself severely and gain Fury and Might. Your next three attacks stun foes and each hit rips all boons from your target. When Insanity Pinion ends, you gain regeneration for each boon ripped.

Bad Blood (Tribal Medicine): Bleed yourself severely and remove all conditions. For the next few seconds your attacks inflict severe bleeding and you cannot be poisoned, burned, bled further, or confused.

For races I’d love to have a Tengu and a Largos. I want to learn more about the Largos, they look totally awesome to me.

And for classes, I want the Dervish back! Just think about their /dance animation from GW1 converted into an Elite skill with scythes all around…

Another class that I loved to see, and no laughs here, is a Super Saiyan! Well, it doesn’t have to be named like that, but imagine something like a Melee Mesmer, which becomes faster (with clone like abilities) and stronger (more power and defense) the more hits he receives and the lower his health bar is, and the profession mechanic would to convert into a Super Saiyan , something like Death Shroud from Necromancers mixed with Adrenaline from Warriors. And to recover from downed state, the other party members have to look for the 7 magic dragon balls and… ok, forget about this last part :p

Another class that I would like to see is a support/control oriented class that can play with the environment. Creating walls, or allowing allies to walk through walls, removing light sources in an area like the EB JP where you have to go with a torch, changing the gravity… This may be asking too much, but it would create lots of new ways for playing the game. Obviusly the whole “walk through walls” thing would need to be limited in WvWvW.

I’ve played every profession so far and my Engineer is working its way to being a TF2 Engineer/Gordon Freeman with the Tool kit

The problem I have with the Engineer is the weapons set at the moment.
At the moment, the profession is a bit too much “back line” for my tastes.

I don’t mind the rifles and pistols but when those are the only land weapons you can use that aren’t kits or packs it becomes a bother for me sometimes.

I guess what I’m trying to convey in my earlier post is bring in some of the utilities for a Engie with the weapons flexibility of a Thief. Maybe that would be a better fusion to look into.
The Thief has the maneuverability I like in a more midline direct fighter, but most of his skills from what I’ve been able to play with are traps, poison, or blinding powders of a sort.

Weapons-wise I adore the combinations they have considering their role.

So with my earlier post, we could have a profession that could support people with limited alchemy, still do various types of damage with different weapons, but won’t be as fast as a Thief in terms of fighting.

Instead of being a single target killer or a utility jack-of-all trades, the result would be a swift fighter who could still maintain some assistance for the group while being able to handle more than one target if need be.

I have just read The Wheel of Time series. And I would love to have something they called the Asha’man. Basically in MMO terms they would be a light armor melee class with magic at their disposal.

Not the stuff the guardian does, that’s all holy and benevolent and kitten. I want to waste destruction with my trusty sword and magic. You could give it different ways to be played. Each trait path would represent some playstyle.

Swordsmanship
Light Armor
Heavy Armor
Offensive Magic
Defensive Magic

To make it short, a sword/spear melee class

Alternatively I would love to see something spear focussed. I really miss halberds in this game. Make it a monk focussing on spears/halberds/bo-staffs and meditations

My two cents
