I mean, come on, we are so far the only class without a dedicated melee weapon (as in, normal weapon, not conjured ones). Not cool.
Cool name btw,
Technically we do have a dedicated melee weapon, we just use it to cast our skills with instead. We have the dagger. It is technically a melee weapon. That being said I vote for the sword also! But we can only wait and see. It would make sense to give a melee weapon with the ability to tank as an ele with earth, if even for a short time as a “Reaper” does. Ele’s already have abilities horns provide as with most other weapons. Melee is really the only realm we cannot participate in.
We’ll see
I think a warhorn used as a channeling tool to call down storms on people sounds pretty epic.
Current itterations of WH skills aren’t amazing, I’ll give you that (Though I eprsonally enjoy Necro WH) but that doesn’t mean that Tempest’s WH (if indeed it even IS a WH) won’t be

Although adding a melee skill to whack someone in the head with the war horn would be hilarious.

Maybe it sounds epic but is hardly functional. Channeled spells are rupt baits and ele’s access to stability is lacking to say the least.
Ok, what if it’s something like this:
Warhorn Skill #4 Calls down a Storm depending on Attunement.
Warhorn Skill #5 Lets you Move called Storms around to targeted Locations, or if used before designate a starting position for the Storm.
While passive, Storms cause impairing Conditions (Burning, Chilled, Weakness, Cripple), but when you move them, enemies caught in their wake are struck with CC (Daze, Immobilize, Stun, Knockdown)
Suddenly, the Elementalist has access to a load of AoE Denial and CC, and won’t be forced into Staff for such endeavors, allowing them to run Scepter or Dagger instead.

Sounds…. useless and exactly what we have now. AoE and CC, just not the conditions (though we have that too).
Most classes have AoE and CC. Yet they’re all different. There’s a few new debuffs and boons as well.
Also warhorn obviously doesn’t automatically mean channelled skills.

I can log in and do that right now.

My current storms are ground targeted, they don’t need to be babysat to wind up where I want them.
The real problem with calling storms is that we already have abilities along those lines. To make it worth making an elite spec out of, they’d have to do one of two things:
I don’t see why you’d be disappointed, because if ele gets an offhand, they also get awesome new profession mechanics.
New profession mechanics? Do you believe in Karl? Cause I lost hope a long time ago. The best they can do is to slightly change attunement effects (like for DH). They are still going to be basically weapon swaps.
If you lost so much faith, why does it even matter what weapon elementalist will get? It could be warhorn, it could be torch, it could be greatsword or sword, but it wouldn’t matter because it’ll suck to you regardless.

LOL, true! all the while making a long hollow BA-WOOOOONG sound hehe. Oh, and it has to be from behind like a Gib’s smack causing confusion and 1s knockdown.
Without reading through all the comments, I hope someone remembered that Ele getting an offhand is actually 8 new skills (possibly 10 if they add another atune). Which is more than any other class… Don’t really know why people are surprised they went with an offhand.
/sigh
This is all speculation though. We don’t know for a fact what eles are getting. Nothing has actually been confirmed. Datamined info is not always correct and sometimes even if it is correct it can be misleading. What happens if ANet decides to make all weapons have ascended counterparts? What happens if they were somehow mislabeled and really are precursers? or Legendaries? What happens if ANet really was like, “Hey guys, want to see me mess with the people? Let me add this into the game files, and they gonna go crazy. MUAHAHAHA (in an Evil Maniacal way)”?
P.S. Option 4 may not actually occur but would be pretty hilarious.
If you lost so much faith, why does it even matter what weapon elementalist will get? It could be warhorn, it could be torch, it could be greatsword or sword, but it wouldn’t matter because it’ll suck to you regardless.
I like to be surprised positively, unlike people who’d rather get another glyph of storm with channeling effect.

There won’t be another attunement because it’s too much work for the already existing weapon sets. Besides, necro got 10 skills.
If we do get sword or warhorn, I simply won’t use the ele specialisation.
You don’t need to use the weapon to use the specialization.
Also, never heard of battle mages…?
Yes. That was my favorite armor spec from Factions.
All of a sudden, anet swerves us all and gives elementalists mainhand and offhand mace. XD
I would actually be happier with offhand mace than warhorn, not satisfied but happier.
If ele is getting a warhorn and mantras, I’m already sure I’ll never use the elite spec. We don’t need more offhand choices, we need another mainhand/twohand to bring some diversity. Ele doesn’t have a pure melee weapon (dagger is really not) and it would be cool if we actually got one.
For mantras, they would most likely be only useful in pve. Ele already suffers from long cast times and mantras are not really something I would enjoy playing. In pvp it would be possibly to take one mantra max, but still think it wouldn’t happen, you just cannot spend weeks casting a mantra in a such fast paced enviroment.
Mantras? Geez I hope we don’t get them. Would far prefer stances but even shouts would be better.
Why would a new warhorn skin indicate that ele’s are getting warhorns? I don’t see how that follows.
As people already mentioned there’s a pattern with the datamined skins and revealed specs so far, plus the look.
He doesn’t either he’s just pulling your horn. It has to be a main weapon. Think how many people would put their Ele in the closet, I would.
Mantras? Geez I hope we don’t get them. Would far prefer stances but even shouts would be better.
Mantra’s is just a guess, it fits with being someone who uses magic, and I would never say anything is better until something is shown. I just think mantras have the potential to be really useful for an ele. If someone said, “Give mantras to thieves!” I would say it might not fit (depending on what the elite spec would be).
I like some shouts and dislike others, (I REALLY like the Reaper shouts). Just like how I use some mantras or stances and don’t use others. It would be the effect that they cause that would determine how good it is. Can the new ability eles get be awesome? Yes. Does it really matter what type of ability it is, until we see it? No.
Don’t know how well warhorn will work, think it would be rather stupid because I think our best off-hand is dagger, focus is just 2 defensive, while I will agreen we need a good off-hand I think sword would be better weapon and duel welding swords would be sweet.

So eles will never get a mainhand or two-hander? Nice logic. Ele skills also tend to be weaker when directly compared to other professions.

You’re the one drawing that conclusion. That ArenaNet would pick warhorn with ONE of the reasons being that it’s less skills to design isn’t even bad logic. To assume they’re going to use that argument every time they make a new specialisation is just silly.

ANet hasn’t “picked” anything, it’s data mining. There is nothing confirmed till they confirm it.

Almost forgot about that, thanks and fixed it. xD

Mantras? Geez I hope we don’t get them. Would far prefer stances but even shouts would be better.
I could see stances, I suppose. Some type of semi-powerful channeled skill, with the drawback of being rooted.
Mantras wouldn’t be bad either; although when I think ‘mantra’ I think of the GW1 version (which were stances) not the GW2 version, which just seem like chargeable cantrips.

Personally, if it’s sword I’d love to see Deceptions and Tricks instead of stances. I think that would fit that better.

I was thinking about tricks, but wasn’t sure how they’d fit precisely. Of course, if we got a sword, it might be interesting to see ele’s get physical attacks too. But they definitely need to give us some better defensive options if they are going to give us another melee range weapon.
I believe that shield to be for Revenant and goes with my prediction that the Revenant Elite spec revolves around Glint as a legend.

That was my ENTIRE POINT. Anet would not use that to pick a weapon for eles, because then eles would never get a mainhand or two-hander. I thought it was pretty obvious that my ‘nice logic’ was sarcasm directed at that poster…
Okay figured I try 2 share this information. So I tried to classify all 9 prof into 3 groups, and this is what I’ve come up, plz read b4 making any comments, and this is only how I see how most of the prof, they are not the only way to play each prof.
Classes | Tanks | Movement | Support
Heavy | Warrior | Revenent | Guardian
Medium | Ranger | Thief | Engineed
Light | Necro | Mesmer | Elementalist
Movement class is kind like the middle ground class.
Revenent with it’s Legends I think put it there
Thief really 1 word stealth
Mesmer my experience you want to keep the enemy moving/guessing
Now I also took the time 2 look at Warhorn skills, they tend 2 be supporty, and thinking about Ele’s left skills can be rather supporty, with focus mainly is 4 support (with blocks and all). Now not saying that is they only thing we can do as ele, I would say we have the highest damage output just because I do between 10k to 20k damaged with a Flame Grab or Churning Earth. Now that is said, I think that Tempest might become a Booner class ( class that applies many boons) it also might be good with our damage to if we came get more than 5 boons a lone.
I will also say thx 4 reading this far and I welcome any and all thoughts and opinions people might have.

And my point was that they definitely could use that argument as a factor in their deciding methods. Just not as sole main one as proven that there are in fact sword skills data mined as well. I didn’t miss your sarcasm, except that it was directed at logic of your explanation or conclusion of the post rather than what he actually said. Which was a bit funny.

Apparently so. I must say that I can’t not agree with you there.
Why would anyone care about stances for ele? All stances are are instant cast skills that grant boons. Ele pretty much already gains that via cantrips and stances in the more traditional means are already accomplished through attunement swapping.
If ele gets warhorn, I will be severely disappointed if the elite spec is not renamed to “Vuvuzele”.
Not to be excessively white knighting or anything, but is there any evidence that the sword stuff isn’t for ele too? One of the things they mentioned was making it easier to add new weapons to existing classes.
I’m excited about the possibility of Ele getting warhorn. I would like to see them make it main hand rather than offhand for Ele. How hard could that be?
Undoubtedly, warhorn mainhand would be the hottest weapon ever. I can see eles whacking everyone with it into eternity…. lmao … soo sexy! >…<’

Each specialisation get one additional weapon, so it can only be one or the other – not both.
IMO Tempest will switch utility skills when swapping attunements like the revenant.
Because there seem to be several versions of glyphs icons for each element

Was it confermed that they will get 1 each or at least 1, I know that each is suppose 2 get 1.
As of most recent datamine info it looks as if we (ele) will get more glyphs, thought these are gw1 skills don’t know how good they will be
Sword zerk stats or GTFO!

This is the only thing I can ever think of when someone says “Ele might get warhorn”… I can’t think of a way for the warhorn to not be awful and lame, or a joke, so… please no

Let’s hope not, I think I will lose my rep as a burst ele if this happens.
ELe get warhorns, it makes sense since they can use the warhorn to summon storms, which is the purpose of a tempest in the first place. Deal with it because it’ll be awesome.

That is thinking in side the box 4 ele, I think warhorn would be good if we had a better weapon than scepter or dagger. And because warhorn is kinda a def weapon or more 2 the point a boon applying weapon it hard 2 want a weapon that would be a something that helped ele be more offensive which I think sword would be better. Also any weapon is capoble of summoning storms with the right imagination.
What makes you think they wont give every new mainhand wep a new skillset to use with the warhorn aswell? remember they get a new prof essentially so they may not have the same main hand attacks aswell….

With a creative design anything is possible. Yet you claim it too hard with warhorn but for your own suggestion you need the right imagination?
Also. I’m pretty sure it’s upto ArenaNet to design what they want to design. Which… could be horrible or great but can be properly judged only until after it’s actually done.
Then you can throw the adult version of a kid’s tantrum and say you’re gonna not play until they make the elite specialisation you would want them to make.

You do realise we already have 6 skills that are storms, don’t you?
