Guild Wars 2

I think the best JPs I’ve seen (fun wise anyway) have been Spekk’s Lab, Morgan’s Spiral (and Dark Reverie which essentially carries on from it), Weyandt’s Revenge, Goemm’s Lab and Wall Breach Blitz. oh yeah and the one in the Thaumanova Reactor, where the puzzle is charging the key, which eventually leads to a boss fight on the roof.

I think JPs are awesome, and go out of my way to do them. sometimes even if I’ve done them before and I’m in the area

super kewl, nottsgman. i’ll definitely have to check ‘em out. as of late, been rather occupied with map complete – trying to race a buddy who challenged me his alt will reach 100% before i do. at 95% now so hopefully i’ll make it lol.

definitely have to check out these Jumping Puzzles sooner than later though!

and lastly.. yes. the finale is the worst bit lol. i am one who wants to be around for everything so that doesn’t help. :/// and so weird, same for me, 3 hours. only thing is it starts at 4am for me lol. i can’t imagine them having an event for over 3 hours though. i’m guesing 2, 2.5 max. plan is to completely change my sleeping habits this weekend. sleep at 8pm, wake up at 4am. O_____o

if its anything like the last “one time only” finale event, it’ll repeat throughout the day, or at least be there all day. the halloween one time only event was just a cut scene, so maybe it’ll be like that. at least I hope so.

does anyone know if this new level 80 map will be there permanently? I’m not level 80 yet, and want to know if I can still experience it fully when I do get there or if I have to miss out.

The new level 80 (Southsun Cove) will remain after the weekend. During the weekend all players will be levelled up to 80 so they can participate in events on the island, after the event is over that feature will be removed and it will be a level 80 explorable area.

That’s cool I can’t wait for Lost Shores!
The one event this gripe me but don’t mind too much if it’s just a cinematic like MK in LA.

Can’t wait to see some more armours! I’m hoping for some knightly full helmet, kind of like the Dark Helmet but without the horns.

@Bri – you can always get the AC armour and then tramsutate stats on to them. LOL though that turns out to be really pricey gear. essentially two exotics for one. but to be honest, lol, i’m doing that with some of my armour. when i have time later, i’ll take a look at some of the female med armour for ya and try to put something together, then i’ll text in the mists. lol. i love mix and matching gear!

just for me, do go check out the SE heavy ArmourD lol though some people swear by this set. haha

@Lexy and everyone – had a quickittentle chat yesterday and brought up a really good point!! i assume most of us have different crafts at different levels and if you don’t plan to make go certain crafts, make we can do trades? it’s just another way to help one another out, offer advice, and or just have fun making trades. you can check to see what crafts each person is at and what level on the Guild panel i believe in game. although id o have 3 400 crafts on one toon, lol, oops. armour, weapon and jewel. so if anyone ever needs anything, send me the mats and i can help! i’ll most likely give you a HUGE discount as well. props to Lexy for this idea!! ; ))))

@Glitch and Nottsgman and everyone – yaaar, excited for lost shores! would love to see some new armour too. so far for the Ascended gear it seems it’s only rings (or jewelry?) and the back piece. bbut eventually there’s be full set of ascended gear. and yea, nice that the area, jp’s, dungeons and all will be permanent.

and yea, if the events are anything liek the cut scene for Halloween. i think i will be okay if i miss them. LOL. but for the one-time event chain, would love to be able to take part in that. as long as i can wake up and it doesn’t last mor than 3, 4 hours.

Having trade offs seems like a good idea, I’ve got stacks of copper ore in my bank.

Noppy seems very good all round. I run a simple I5 2600k overlooked and a 560ti runs GW2 at 40~60fps.

Th only thing I recommend having a look at is the power supply. It depends if you want to get another graphics card anytime soon, recommending a 900W supply if thinking. (900 might be a bit overkill but allows for plenty of wiggle room)

All in all very nice.

Maybe when we get our Operation:Union website (no pressure Glitch!) we can have a section that details all the Guild’s crafters so people can find and contact them more easily.

Oh sorry Noppy I missed a boo boo. Bri pointed it out thankfully. In your set up you might want more fans. I assume that you’ve looked at the cases direction of air flow. I looked that case and it is recommended for having good air flow.

However I settled on an Nzxt phantom 410 (a full tower was overkill!) has so much room everything looks empty inside.

I agree with bri, a sound card is kind of a waste of space. The on on the motherboard is sufficient. In my experience having a sound card doesn’t have any noticeable effects. I just use some Turtlebeaches my bro bought me for my last birthday.

Yea a good 800-850 W PsU is good. My brother has 900 as he added a light show to case. (not sure it was vanity or an experiment, maybe bit of both.)

Also my brother’s going to be starting the website later on after he finishes his fluid dynamics assignment.

I have an nzxt tower too, and yes they can be quite big. Lexa S has room for 5 cooling fans lol. It’s been a fantastic tower in my experience. Even with all the hardware set up it’s very easy to get to everything and maintain it.

Hi all, I’ve been following this thread for sometime now. Yep, I’ve read all the walls-o-text. I think what ya’ll do is great. I share the same principals of helping others.

I’ve been online RP’ing for a very long time (since AOL was pay-per-minute; “gasp”). Guess that means I’m an old fart. GW1 was my first mmorpg (played on and off for a lil over 5 years). I’ve played a few other F2P ones in between.

@bri and glitch: thanks for the advise about the pc. I do understand your remarks and will adress them all
First off, the pc will come from a webshop that assembles everything and they provide game systems with a prebuild layout (if that sounds correct). You can decide on a lot off items (cpu, gpu, ram,…) but the soundcard is a standard. I can not remove the soundcard from the build and also the card reader is not removable But its still a great setup
Now, the other remarks like the power supply. Do you really think i should raise the powersupply if you know that i will not overclock my pc and that 1 graphics card will be enough for me (and my budget )?
About the case: you guys checked out a website and bri, you’re telling that it only has 1 fan in place. But on the website that i will order my pc from has this as information about the case

One of us with the necessary ‘button-pressing’ permissions will send you an invite to the O:U guild and (even if you don’t join us all the time) you can have a chat with us in game and get to know us all. Just checked the specs for your PC case because I found it odd that a CoolerMaster case only had one fan. Oddly enough it does only come with one normally. But it does support up to four 120mm fans. If you have cooling issues I suggest you add extra when your budget permits.

and yes sir, it’s an in-game guild, but not limited to the Guild. soon there will be a website on the way as well. a quick rundown, this started more off the tiny notion of being a helpful player to those who are new, or to those who simply enjoy company. a bunch of us, led by a glorious leader, lol, had like-minded ideas about the difference we wanted to make in-game, and what type of person we wanted to be in Tyria, but certainly not limited to that. ; )))

you can join this guild and represent it whenever you want to, just drop by and say hello, see what everyone else is doing. if we’re talking big picture, this is more a gathering ground for those who want to make a positive difference, who are willing to make new players and vet players feel welcome all the same, to share knowledge and have fun and to talk about anything and nothing.

the guild mainly consists of cross server peoples right now, so the only way to play together is if you have people on the same server, or through dungeon instances as the moment. we’re looking forward to the guesting feature ; )))

I may also have an officers application sheet just so there is a more constant presence to talk to newer players and other people with questions.

Bri, Noppy, Lexy and Akamon, nottsgman and omerk do a brilliant job. I think a further organisation is in order cause this is getting a bit big.

Well, at the moment, I’m mostly helping 2 friends who are new to the game reach level 30, as well as taking it slow to complete my personal story, and leveling an alt which is 21 at the moment.
We all played WoW for several years togather, and we’re aiming at dungeons and later on, we’ll probably set our camp at ORR for the dynamic nature of this area.

In the near future (as soon as my alt is level 30) I’ll be holding with or without my friends regular dungeon sessions, as well as questing sessions, help with personal stories, etc.
Whenever we’ll cap another dungeon min level requirements, we’ll go for that one’s story mode, aiming at opening all exp mode paths so we won’t be limited if people form a group and in need of a person to complete.

On this note, I want to stress that in a guild like that, we can expect people to help complete story mode dungeons even if they don’t need them.
I know Glitch is more than willing to go through AC story again, me 2, and when we’ll have enough people at high levels and we’ll want to level alts or new people, this will pay it’s dividends even if at the moment it may be boring to do story mode again.

Bri, its like you read my mind, I was going to ask the same thing, seeing as I’m verging on needing it.

I play a ranger, put my points into beast mastery and precision (I think), mostly so that I could make use of the pet more (its there and should be used in my opinion), so my pet usually does the tanking for me. I built like that because it works in PvE and I’m not that interested in PvP at the moment so don’t have to worry about pets not being so great at attacking (use it more as a shield and battlefield reviver). anyway, because I’m near 80 and also near the end of my personal story, I too would like advice as to what traits/skills/kit would be best to bring into a dungeon.

I have plenty of money to re-spec/re-gear, so no worries there.

currently putting off doing dungeon runs in favor of leveling my engi (which I’m enjoying more atm), so I’m in no rush (hoping turrets get a boost to be honest in the upcoming patch), and might need ideas on that one too when I get there (hit the half-way point)

Count me in for dungeons! I’ve still got the whole of Ascalon to map, but I could do with a break from hearts, POIs, waypoints and vistas.
Level 80 elementalist, I think my traiting is probably fine as I’m not too squishy and built for condition damage. Happy to take advice from other ele players though.

I’m happy to do dungeons as well. I could use the experience in them. Gear and ability is no problem, but I know there’s a lot of tricks to learn in dungeons that comes with experience. I can go on a ranger or a guardian, if it’s AC I’d rather take the guardian.

So far I am liking it! I played WoW and Diablo in the past.

I didn’t take the trap damage, because I don’t use them (gf does though and traited for them). I chose signet regen, long range, and signet effects (so they don’t just effect my pet).
I chose the wolves because I traited so that canines do cripple on f2, also they cripple and knockdown naturally, which allows me to get more hits in while still keeping a distance. the alpine one has chill also and the normal one has fear. its really all about keeping enemies at a distance, not that I can’t take a hit to the face. that and they seem pretty tough, despite having not so high vit stats. I know this probably isn’t so very realistic in dungeons, but it works for me in the open environment against just about anything, at least I’ve had no trouble with it. second reason I chose them was because the actual wolf took a bit of hassle to get (having to go into WvW for it), so I was determined to use that one after that.

would like to see spirits working well though, those would offer an alright support option, but as they are they aren’t really worth it.

First of all hello Thomas! Hope you’re enjoying the game so far.
If you want to ask questions or seek help feel free to do so here!

We can focus on dungeons after event or something? Or maybe even during depending.
Ranger I find is pretty decent for either a con build or dmg spike build. Focusing on using traps. I run a sword/dagger build. The lack of con removal is a bit annoying due to playing a War a lot.

To counter this I go for vitality type stuff focusing on bleeds+poisons. Playing a ranger you have to be very careful as most mobs can put a least 2 conditions on you fairly frequently.

Haha Noppy, you only have to dream about it a bit longer!

My Uncle and Aunt bought me Halo 4… So I might come down with consolitis!
I played a tiny bit today to try put as I didn’t have college today.
Even with mated sensitivity it still feels slow. :P Used to mouse moving at 5700dps.
However I recently found out I still kick kitten on Halo l.

I feel like a Traitor Legion to all the loyalists.

@Omerk, Bri, Nottsg, Lexy, Kaii and everyone else – i’m down to do any dungeons. in terms of story mode, i’ve only done AC and CM. willing to do again though! they were fun. and exp i’m okay with a few, except never set foot in Arah or TA yet. lol

in regards to a dungeon build, i’ve seen a few rangers before and they do awesome! i can’t speak specifically, but in general speccing for survivability is a good idea. you’ll see more conditions in dungeons as well so vitality would be good too. ut then again, i’ve never played a Ranger so i might be completely off since i’m unfamiliar with your traits and utilities. one thing to note with Rangers is sometimes, as much as i love having pets around, i’ve seen them unintendedly aggro mobs lol. so at times, they had to stow them : ((( lol hopefully more ranger vets can speak on viable dungeon builds!

I’ve got to say while my War is going from strength to strength, I’m slightly disappointed with Anet about the ranger patch notes. Not the overhaul that was promised, most buffs are very sub par even putting a extended delay on traps! I’ll just wait and see may have been a mistake but it wasn’t what you could call a major improvement.

I’ll still play my ranger but really like lvling my Guard as I want it to be like a Chaplain in Warhammer 40k. I always liked that concept, being a major support role. I came about with this thought as I used to paint a few miniatures when I wa little.
Might get back to them when I have more time. Always enjoyed painting things.

I had a thought ….. (I really shouldn’t be allowed to have thoughts, but that’s another story).

-on that note we do go out of our way to help others – book quest had us resing people for 2 hours in the crypts, just to make sure they got through. thought it was only fair since we got it and saw loads of people dying in that area.

Also I not that happy with what the event is causing. The introduction of this ‘Ascended Gear’ seems to have widened the chasm between the more hardcore and casual community.

I heard from quite a few folks and over at guru that players have began discriminating against those without Ascended Gear when doing the dungeon (to those thinking it is mandatory, it is only if you want to complete the fractuals at a harder difficulty/ survive the Agony condition. You can do fairly well without it though.)

Also there is now a larger number of cases about griefing, kicking, racism in parties and in general. This has lead to a decline in the awesome players we seek to reunite.

I also want everyone else’s thoughts about Anet’s decision.

I consider myself more of the semi hardcore (???) group. I enjoy organised play and enjoy tackling the hardest content in the game, even making new challenges such as never being downed in a dungeon with nothing but my skivvies.
However like the more serious ‘elite’ players (you know the ones) I too sometimes have my little year old tantrums at times like serious lack of teamwork etc.
This mores in other games not really GW2. Big thank to god that it’s rare now. You didn’t want me in the house when I used to play games when I was little!

I for one vow not to become like them. It is up to us to close the gap again. We are all mainly casual players with some more serious elements (sorry, pretty much all my fault! I got broken as all I do is run AC since I hit lvl 27)

I think the community is losing a little faith over this, truth be told I am a little skeptical too. It’s up to the kind hearted awesomeness of all you out there with same mindset that we CAN make a difference. The community lives and dies with us. I remember the awesomeness of GW1 nothing short of kind folks.

With the power creep I hope it doesn’t turn into a mix of WoW as many people came here to get away from that. I myself never liked those games and gave up very quickly.

I am really glad for finding an awesome gaming family with such gold hearts. I hope that our ideals never lose their way and we continue to be what I always thought we were, a family.

We promise to never turn away those needing help and never to judge a person by their casual/serious mind set. To welcome all those that hopefully share our sentiments and why not have a go at being part of something that truly wants to change the community for the better. This is all about respecting others like in life, respecting others for who they are not what they have. To me and everyone here, if you have the heart you’ll always be welcome even if you part ways.

Once the website is up and running and with guesting we will truly be a presence on all worlds. Until that time I thank the ones that have continued to stand right by each other. This has seriously become something I never even thought would be from one eye searing post!

Also am I getting big headed when I seriously hope that we are a presence on all worlds each with fairly big sub guilds in partner with Operation : Union?

I think Anet have made quite a few bad decisions recently. firstly with the new gear and the segregation that came with it (and this is just one or two pieces at that). I find it unfair that some will get left behind, not only on a gear level, but on a content level too. creating a gating system is all well and good, but when people who don’t have the keys are being pushed out of that content, then that is just wrong. all it will end up doing is creating a bigger gap, and stop the people who haven’t got the gear to stop asking for help or looking for groups because other people don’t want to play with them. its sad really that Anet would choose to do something like this, especially when I don’t remember this type of thing being in GW1.

fortunately though, even if I do manage to get this new gear, I personally will not go down the route of “ascended or no invite”, or anything else like that. I always have and always will do what I believe, and that is to help others, like I would hope others would do the same for me. if that means I have to stifle my progress, then so be it, the important thing is that someone else also got that progress too, and got to experience it.

honestly though, with all of it I am trying to sit on the fence, trying to see how it plays out after the event is over and see how it plays out. it might not end up as bad as I fear, but one thing is for sure, I am still going to do what I have been all along, and I know that everyone here will be too.

I did a quick run when the fractals opened but it was a bit buggy. Someone got dc’d and couldn’t get back in, so I decided to leave it until they’ve had time to fix things. Seemed easier and less rewarding than a normal dungeon, at the initial difficulty. Got 5 of those… things… it gives you.

Back to farming for now though.

I’ve done some story mode dungeons, such as AC, TA, HoTW, and CM (didn’t complete cm due to the bug on the queen event, which I understand is now fixed).
I’d do any of these again for a guildy/friend.
I’ll be playing tonight at around 19:00 gmt, and will be looking for either fractal or any of the others.

As for your other questions, I’ve seen rangers perform great and poorly. by poorly I mean they don’t pay attention to what they target, and pull extra mobs into an already complex fight, I’ve seen rangers wait for melee to finish off traps on the ground while they could have finished the distant and upper ones, making the progress easier and smoother.
But I’ve seen some great performances by people who realized that they were part of the group. At one time I saw a ranger taking a vast advantage of my use of mace/shield as a guardian for his survivability.

As for a build, I don’t know what would be a good build, but I can tell you that unlike other MMOs, there is no “best dps build”. It mostly depends on your playstyle, weapons and pet selection, and partly on your party.

Also, note that for AC story mode, there is a boss fight that requires figuring out the threat mechanism of gw2 (which I haven’t yet), so I only managed to complete this one with people who knew how to separate the lovers, which makes this a very easy fight.
When I played with people who, like me, didn’t figure this one out, this fight was impossible.
