The only reason I can think that this thread hasn’t been moved/locked is because the mods are ungodly amused right now by how silly this all is… Or they’re doing a case study on experienced players opinions versus inexperienced.

Firstly, you have no idea who you’re talking to, as Chaos is one of the most prestigious, and reasonable, mesmers in the community, meaning if you wanted to understand at all where mesmers were coming from and the logic of shatter, you should be talking to him instead of disregarding his criticism of your forum-going. Secondly, you didn’t rebuke his claims of you ignoring other claims at all, which might be in your favor if it is at all false. Thirdly, there’s that little bit at the beginning that stated “I can think of”, showing that, just as you’ve done, it is just an opinion.
Don’t care who you are, but disregarding Chaos Archangel is not something you should do lightly. This also applies to a few other mesmers, including Fay and Stickerhappy. They are very reasonable people if you talk to them using facts, evidence, and modesty in opinion.

90% of the mesmers are using this with a few changes, because any weapon works in the class. Just need clones + insta cast shatter skills
I don’t roll shatter. I’m a Lockdown Mesmer, one of two currently viable stand-alone mesmer builds[Shatter, Lockdown], one of four existing mesmer build types[Shatter, Lockdown, PU, Boonshare]. The latter two are not used a lot in PvP because they are rarely useful without a lot of team prep.
Once again, maybe ask questions before making statements, yeah?

In a game interactive as this there aren’t anything that you can hold absolutely true. He can choose to believe that what the majority perceive as facts are nothing more than individual opinions, and we cannot disagree.
Why are you guys so serious? What are you trying to prove to him? If he is actually receptive to ideas and what others think in disagreement he wouldn’t be putting that opinion in his signature.
There are lots of people writing eloquent and well thought out posts (but indeed, only majority opinion right?) but the environment of this thread does not foster the learning of people new to sPvP or Mesmers. Granted there are the few that read through and have a think, a lot would just use this thread as an excuse and avoid improving your game vs it.
And practically, given how slow anet is with adjustments and how quickly some specs were nerfed in the past (DD one shot thief, unsuspecting foe), I think (yes IMO) anet doesn’t see Shatter Mesmer as a threat to balance atm… Which means we will be stuck with the spec for better or worse. And the only way the spec will change is the alteration of other matchups or buffs to other Mesmer specs (which might not have the same utility tbh).
Also shoutouts to skilless faceroll builds… xd

I can’t play my main celestial ele because it has a birthday booster to spend so I made this necro build yesterday. Anyway as a necro and any other classes the biggest problem is always a mesmer due to the skilless faceroll build everyone runs.

Also this OP. Even if Shatter was / is OP ANet wont do nothing about it. ANet could easely fixed mesmers clone spam a long time ago when they planed to nerf DE.

If an opinion is flawed and proven to be so via an abundance of fact, numbers, and at least somewhat reliable testimony to back it up this is enough for people to point out an opinion is ‘Wrong’.

As to newer players: various posts have included all the information you need to counter shatter on any build, If they haven’t picked up on it after being given all the information and not finding a work around then it’s a personal problem. Maybe some of you will find a mesmer to duel who will teach you how to counter him directly. For those less lucky however if you don’t take the time to ‘understand’ how to win then you are undeserving of victory.

the damage a mesmer can dish out with the amount of boons he can remove at the same time is op. so either nerf shatter damage or the boon removal, very simple. after all they also did that to sword thieves.
The pre-nerf Sword thief is the best example of the current state of mesmer.

I didn’t “directly insult” anyone. If disagreeing is insulting for you that is not my problem. This is not an exact science, you may think mesmer dmg is ok and say there are a few counters. I say that the damage is too high and there need to be more counter. I still haven’t seen the “abundace of facts” you claim.

pu phantasm is strong too cause ppl see that is the easiest build to play
I already try both phantasm and shatter and I can tell you that shatter need a lot of experience and technic to use that kind of build

shatter Mesmer: use aoe condi on him
thief with sword? stun imobilize him and it’s paper
celestial ele: corrupt his boon and cc him
