WvW Season One Rewards Are Unacceptable
yup, I feel bad for the number 1 server, not even a permanent finisher? Or a title saying season 1 best or something. A chance at a skin of some sort??? disappointing considering the effort involved.
The thing however is that being the number one server doesn’t really have that much to do with effort, but rather having a stacked server.
And if they did give very special and cool items for the winners only (not counting the finisher) people would stack even more for season 2, and thus destroying WvW even more.
That is so much bull about no effort.

I really expected better items. The Achievement list was longer then most others and yet the reward was way less satisfying. Taking into account the ton of money Anet made from server transfers I would have expected a much better or even unique reward for the first season.
As it is, if they decide to do it again I will not work towards its completion.
They had a good chance to ensure everyone actually finds the motivation and interest go WvW next season and they completely dropped the bell. Nice work!
Tell me guys,
Why should you deserve something better?
You have to realise that you are not playing for reward chests (they are just side effect), but for fun.. wuv season was great and I am looking forward to another :-)
Nope. When they added the achievement they made it about the reward. Then fleeced us. Everyone that finished should have gotten a decent prize. And those that finished at the top should have gotten more.
Reward chest was a joke, enough said.

Disagreed, those players weren’t interested in WvW, they were interested in their achievement points and the meta reward. I’m maybe generalizing, some of them eventually got interested and started to play it regularly and started to care about their server’s performance. But for the majority of them, as soon they completed it, they went to do other things and never came back.
Literally, the 101 heavy loot bags I received from reset night netted me a ton more in terms of value than my 7 week reward chest. The most valuable thing I got from the chest came from salvaging my exotic for the inscription. But you know, whatever. What was the purpose of having a league in the first place? Just scrap it, its worthless. Keep people out of the borderlands doing useless kitten like stealing upgrade supply to repair stuff for achievements. And the people who truly like to WvW will continue to do so without fighting the queues. This is literally the first reset I was able to get in and run with my guildies, on reset, since week 1 of the season start.

LOOL i remember the time when we got nothing for playing WvW. Stop complaining for getting something. They didnt even have to give us anything for completing season 1.
So… basically I’m noticing the casual WvWers and the PvE achieve grinders are the ones complaining about the lackluster rewards. While the hard core WvWers are sitting there saying “Eh, we knew it was gonna be s**ty rewards. WvWers never get anything worthwhile.”

I’m a hardcore WvWer and the achievement chest was terrible. The historical lack of rewards in WvW is also terrible. It’s possible to enjoy WvW and simultaneously want to be rewarded for it; defending ArenaNet’s stingy rewards is hurting the game in the long run — it doesn’t make you a cool dude to claim you’re indifferent.
The rewards/goal structure in WvW is very lackluster.
as to those saying wvw is not really competetive, i have to disagree, the servers that stack put in a lot of time and effort to try to recruit, and then stabilize, they tend to have people who play long hours, and coordinate more. Its server versus server so building a WvW community, or your “army” is a part of what its all about.
I do think server transfer penalties for WvW are a bit too lax. losing out on WvW bonuses for a week? thats it? ehhh.
Also there should be some server themed titles, awards, etc. Build up server pride.
its not just a money issue. Honestly if you are getting good fights, WvW competes with normal PVE play. But there really is nothing for a WvW player to aim for. What makes it worthwhile to build up your server community, teach new players, get PVE guys into WvW. Why should the server be downloading TS, logging on late, scouting etc.
I know people love the fights, but WvW isnt just about logging in and killing some peoples. If they dont have some type of WvW centered rewards, titles, and goals, it will be very hard to make people think its worth the effort to win. Worth the effort to actually take objectives, worth the effort to defend.
Exhibit A of a generation raised to believe that everyone should get a trophy, lol.
Now I only need 12 more seasons and I will have the next 1% mf, when does the next start i have to keep going?

I know, right?
By the way some of these people are acting, I’m pretty sure these “hardcore” WvWers are all wearing blues considering how much they hate getting rewarded for doing anything.
very disappointed.
Its a joke as 7 weeks reward.
Just REMOVE those meta achievement and reward.
no queue for wvwers. more chest farm for pvers.
win win for both.
I reckon the chest was fine. WvW itself should be rewarding; the season should be icing on the cake.
At least PVE’rs have got a taste of how Anet trolls the wuv wuv community.
New bunker meta sux
Like myself and others have already said the rewards should have been WvW centered a better reward would have been some laurels and siege blueprints. People saying haha that will teach the pve scrubs ect. ect. must be on severs that have a large WvW player base but some servers would love to get some of the pve players more interested. On my server if we could get the people on champ farms during our coverage gaps into WvW we would be much stronger. The only reason I still play the game is WvW but easy wins or instant loss match-ups and that is a week I don’t play much if at all.
Anet totally failed this season 1 with so pathetic rewards …

Yup, I’m disappointed for you guys on BG, because I know how much effort we put in on JQ to try to displace you guys at the top, so I know how much effort went in to holding that top spot. You guys were rooked by these chests.

Too bad your server didn’t organize.

The rewards given was definitely not worth the effort, very bad call from Arena Net. Especially disappointing as they touted the rewards as being -very- worth while.
I doubt I will take part in season two if this is what the rewards will be like. At least I can better spend the excessive amount of time required to get the key doing better things.
BG put in a lot of effort. The server organized and people stayed up late or logged on earlier than normal. Lots of people did boring stuff
Most people do not really care about how much time you spend farming gold to buy your transfers, so it does not count.
I agree with this. We have done big job to bring players back to game and motivate PvE players to join our effort. We spent many nights in game to fight for our place in league. Achievements took several hours to get them and some of them took additional time, because we had other strategic things to do all the time, to keep our server up.
I want to tell this – rewards for dozens of hours in WvW are INSULTING. We were second place in silver league… This game is so demotivating I cant belive Im still playing. You know what? I want be playing season 2 and just beacause I love GW1 I will check updates, but this was last time (after living world prooved to be schematic) I believed developers in something.
- why rewards are demotivating?
- why loot bags are still droping on ground?
- why I cant craft legendary after one year of playing and half year of having all gifts but precursors are still RNG?
- why there is no chance for me for ascended armor after one ascended sword ruined all my materials, money and time?
- why RNG rewards are in game that promised not to be grind (and mystic forge, wvw level, fractal chest and other rng system frustrated so many ppl you cant imagine)
- why after 7 weeks of playing WvW and hours spent to fight I got 3 rare weapons and 4 greens? WTF!!! I have more loot after 30min champ train in Frostgorge – you want champ farm to be strongest and most interesting part of game? or maybe CoF p. 1 speed run or fractals lvl 30 gear check, achievement points check?
Now I wish this game will end as SWTOR, maybe then you will start to respect your players…

Also Disappointed.
It needs a wall of text or just a ditto.
Ditto.
I find that the rewards were just right. Some servers pretty much destroyed WvW to win this effing thing and this should be just what they deserve. I would say proabably everyone besides JQ and SoR are QQing. I know I am laughing all the way to BGBL. SEE YA IN WVW!

If it was that much every week, you’re not being honest with yourself.
A lot of weeks were blowout weeks based on scoring.
At this point I’d settle for a post about the very first wvw season ending and congratulating the winners.
I think we put more effort into this than they did.

What BG did was destroy Tier one, how anet allows that crap is beyond me but…
Luckily, I don’t wvw for rewards.

JQ helped with their recruitment. SoR would have also had you all gotten more so don’t try to play any kind of victim. You are all just as culpable.
Nice try with the blame game but it isn’t anyone’s falt that you guys gave up.

There are more than just those three serers in gold tier, lets not much assumptions of where Aaron is from.
Heh, well BG has started something that is only to the detriment to WvW overall. As far as I know we went into seasons with what we had, by mid season BG’s strat did it’s job, if you think SoR got any guilds you are delusional.

And you are delusional if you think that BG was the cause.
It is WvW and it was all about PPT.
What did you really think? Oh wait, you are not.
You may not have gotten any guilds but that doesn’t mean you didn’t try, oh wait, you are forgetting about poaching from BG. You essentially coppied what JQ did before BG got guilds to come to there.
Was any one really expecting any good rewards?
If you did rofl you deserve to be disappointed. This is wvw we’re talking about afterall.
Well it was a lot better than pretty much all of the other meta-achievement rewards. I got a unique mini, a bunch of free levels, a load of dragonite ore, a nice lump of luck essence and some easy achievement points to contribute to my achievement chest acquisition. I say “easy achievement points” because I am a frequent WvW player and didn’t have to change the way I play to complete the meta.
If the reward does improve for season 2, then we should just get more WvW specific stuff such as a load of superior siege, badges and maybe a couple of WvW infusions.

Huh? Choo is a guild on one particular server.

I think the issue here is that they did not follow their own rules for how they reward LS. If you compare to PVE LS arcs, they are typically:
- 2-4 weeks long (but can complete comfortably in days)
- 1-2 major meta achievements, of which exact reward is known
- Each meta achievement reward one unique item (minis, skins, home features – ie items that cannot be attained any other way)
- Less unique rewards are not awarded for achievements but more integrated into more direct gameplay (ex. tricolor chest, candy corn king chest, …)
This is how wvw was presented which broke bits of this example and made people unhappy.
- 7 weeks long (but can complete comfortably in a week or two). This is fine but I would expect 2-3 times what a normal PVE LS arc is for comparability
- 1 major meta achievement, for which almost all of it was not known. For exact parity, this could have been 2-3 of these. Since they didn’t, I’d expect 2-3 unique items in the meta reward
- Simply put, the meta chest had only one unique reward (mini) as opposed to 2-3 which would have had parity. Simply adding 1 skin would have but this at 2 uniques which would have been closer. Having the finisher be the last potential unique would have been fine (although this was not done as was advertised)
- The less unique rewards were not awarded by being integrated into the gameplay. Instead we had the mini-chests that were rewarded for particular achievements. To match PVE LS, this would have have to have been some actual new content that was introduced for the season, but there really wasn’t. I probably would have just removed these. In addition, the more non-unique rewards were pushed into the final chest, which lowers its perceived value. Adding the ascended mats was fine as there is a percieved shortage for wvw, but I would have at least done this with a hoard of materials similar to fractured to make it more unique. The tomes are a hard thing to add because they can be useless for people (ascended armor is at least coming out regarding ascended mats).
If I were to have done this differently, this is how I would have done it:
- Removed all the mini-chests that were rewarded for certain achievements that gave badges, prints, greens, and blues
- Makes some small changes to have the season feel different from normal wvw. I agree that no gameplay changes should happen but overal feel can:
- Dolyaks have a chance to drop 5 limited use dolyak finisher.
- Supervisors have a chance to drop the swiftness guild banners
- Lords have a rare chance to drop wxp communal bonfire
- These above are for season only, remove the nightmare stuff. We were told no ‘changes’ to wvw, this makes it feels like PVE’s LS not WVW’s LS.
- Having only 1 major meta chest for 7 weeks is a bit too long – PVE had some 4 week long ones have 2 meta rewards. I would have awarded another chest at 10/15 that would not depend on placement. Prose for this chest would be something along the lines of “Keep up the fight – here’s some items to help you continue wvw season”.
- The 10/15 meta chest would contain ascended mats:
- Hoard of ascended materials
- Maybe some dark matter as well (I’m biased though because I don’t have exos to salvage left and right)
- Maybe some of those dolyak limited finishers
- The 15/15 meta chest would contain the unique rewards. More importantly, it would be known beforehand exactly what these are, just like PVE LS. Saying something will be ‘very good’ beforehand without telling exactly what it is, is a recipe for disappointment because they are relying on your judgment, not their own, on whether it is good or not.
- Mini dolyak
- Another unique item, something like: stonemist model similar to Zephyr, infinite seigerazer tonic, infinite random siege piece tonic, pot of oil backpiece skin (hey it won’t look weirder than a book or a toxic spore), home instance ‘siege workshop’ that can forge sup siege for cheaper, … etc etc
- Gold/Silver/Bronze dolyak finisher for 1st/2nd/3rd for each league with unlimited use until next season starts (as Devon had said in a post). For now, I would have used this as the lone way that 1st rewards aren’t better than non-first, and as such I wouldnt’ have stressed this point during the season. GW2 already has problems balancing 15 minute winner versus loser rewards in spvp, 7 weeks of wvw winner versus loser would be very hard particularly with the coverage wars issue being highlighted as it is.
- I would have left this as is – no greens/rares/exotics/ascended directly. There is no history of that in PVE LS, shouldn’t be here. No tomes either.

Anet you just blew the effort that I see you was trying to make by getting the PvE and the WvW people together for this meta. We all worked hard and pulled things together to win for your servers. But I have to agree the rewards was kind of lame. Now we have infighting on the forums between the PvE and WvW people. The community that you are trying to build has just blew up. Its going to take something good to bring everyone back together again. Good luck with that !
Ps
For all the servers who went out of there way to pull the pve people into wvw nice job and I hope you made some lasting friendships out of this. I know I have and I had fun too. Dont let what you got from your reward chest take the reward of making new friends and learning new things away. I will always remember the fun times. Love you all

yet, even with all the effort you put in the bulk of your points came from ticking 500+ PPT during non peak hours. Say what you will about effort, it shows you care but in the long and short of it that had very little to do with your win.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
Rewards were meh to insulting (if you rolled poorly in RNG). I appreciate, however, the difficulty ANet faces in giving fitting rewards and encouraging server stacking.
A far more pressing issue is the promise to make WvW rewards equivalent to PvE.
I was very happy with the rewards
1. at least now we know for season 2 it will mean less queues, due to disappointed ppl not returning for such little rewards.
2. ppl that bandwagoned to a potentially winning server had no need too, which messed with balance.
3. servers that tanked down to a lower league expecting riches had no need too and may think twice about doing it again.
4. if it was anything worth more we would have had the same bullkitten queues/transfers/server tanking crap that we had this season. other than that it was awesome stuff.
More fool all of the above.^^
For those that played and fought as they normally do didn’t expect too much and didn’t go out of their way to complete the achievements knowing it would come in time with regular play good on you, and hope they have a season 2 to face u again.
Season 1 wasn’t about the rewards for me it was about the variety of servers we fought and fun times we had, and it was kittening ace.

Kinda funny the measly amount of wxp they gave out for a pvp reward, there’s 9000+ rank levels are they really that afraid to give some of those levels away? lol
Happy I got the tomes to help level another alt with, the greens were pointless why bother putting them in, could have made it more special by giving us more of the stuff we don’t see often, like the keg of wxp, the tomes, etc. Oh well, can expect a lot of players not to give a kitten about season 2.
