We should have information on this tomorrow. I am sorry that it’s taking a bit of time to get the word back to you, but we want to make sure we have the proper process in place to handle this appropriately.
Thanks for understanding.
The Guild Wars 2 forums are exclusively for discussion and support regarding Guild Wars 2. If you have in issue with regards to the original Guild Wars, please open a ticket directly with Customer Support.
Professions do not have their own starting zones. A character’s starting zone is determined by the race that was selected.
Just like on the current professions, you will start at level 1 when you create a new Revenant character. We want it to be easily accessible for anyone with Heart of Thorns which means not putting it behind unnecessary content gates.
Have you had any moments where you look at the market reaction to something you consulted with and said to yourself “I done kittened up”?
Bloodstone dust. Nothing like checking numbers after a meeting to see how much something has increase and there’s 10 more digits than you were expecting.
10 more digits!? Holy Clam Sauce Batman!!!!!
Thats quite a bit.Other than Mawdrey, have you considered another Bloodstone dust sink? Maybe some new recipes or something?
Also what about the global economy ramifications of making Bloodstone Dust, and other ascended crafting mats vendorable?
I would be less concerned with the global economic ramifications than the fact that adding a vendor value isn’t an elegant solution, you should get something for that material that isn’t 2c, because 2c never feels good and just adds to the money supply.

And the fix is live.
You can still explore, and the vistas/et al are still there, but the icons don’t appear on the map for <L10 characters. Not everyone who plays is an MMO veteran, and can find a multitude of different icons in the first 30s of play kind of overwhelming.
The fix for all of these issues is identical.
We’re looking into this situation now and will have some info soon.
Our apologies for any confusion that this may have caused!
The name mentioned by the OP is in violation of the Guild Wars 2 Naming Policy, specifically these two points:
- Have offensive racial, ethnic, national, or cultural connotations
- Reference sexual acts or real life violence
As a reminder, if you see a name that you believe is in violation of the Naming Policy, please report the individual in the game so that an agent may investigate and take appropriate action where needed. Reports made in-game are monitored 24/7.
Remember when creating/renaming characters that perception is what matters, not one’s intention/reasoning behind naming a character a particular way.
there is 150-180 million carats of diamonds sold a year, does that mean diamonds are easy to get?
Random aside, you should read about the diamond market (it’s pretty messed up on a bunch of levels).
It sounds as if you have read the Content Terms of Use, but if you’ll take a look at that again and observe the parameters outlined within it, you should be fine.
I note you’re not suggesting a profit in any form, nor are you marketing this as official or approved. At its core it sounds as if this is a fan project that you’re sharing in case others desire to also make themselves a copy for personal, non-profit use.
I will ask our Brand Director to see if he has any other information to share but again, the CToU should be very helpful.
It’s not a bug. Low level characters will not see map icons for vistas, jumping puzzles, et al to cut down on icon overload. They will display for L10+ characters, and once any character on an account is high enough to see the icons, all characters on the account should see them.
:The Ringmaster" is the end of the L20 storyline, The next step is at L30, but an errant step was left in at the end of that storyline that asks you to read mail that you won’t receive until you’re L30. (And reading the mail will officially complete the storyline.) So nothing to worry about, once you hit L30 it will all make sense.
(Sorry for double post, this is unrelated to above)
There’s still a story issue that hasn’t been addressed yet: Personal Story and Dungeon Story Mode relations.
Currently, you’ll get a “introduction” by the Herald at level 25. At level 30, you get a letter about Ascalonian Catacombs story. However, at level 40 you have the Destiny’s Edge meeting in which Eir talks about going to Ascalon Catacombs indirectly. And at level 50, you get a letter from your iconic talking about events at AC, TA (level 40 dungeon), and CM (level 50 dungeon).
IMO, the “easiest solution” if the changes to levels of the Personal Story remains unchanged (something I personally don’t mind, though I’m unsure about the “locked until level” part) would be to raise the dungeon levels. Make AC story level 45, TA level 50, and CM level 55 – leave the rest as is, and raise explorable to an appropriate story level+5.
My “preferred solution” would having all explorables at level 80 (makes cross-dungeon balancing easier), have AC story at 50 and each subsequent story dungeon 5 levels higher (TA=55; CM=60; SE=65; rest as is)
Whatever the solution, just figured I’d bring this up on the topic of Personal Story fixes.
I’ll add this to the list of things to investigate. It might just be an issue of changing when we’re triggering the sending of those mails (or how they’re worded).
Could you clarify, for absolute certainly: will the story steps that were re-ordered be returned to their original order (in addition to the restoration of the Greatest Fear arc)? And will the story instance entrances be returned to their original locations, rather than the current airship ‘airdrop’ thing that currently occurs at Fort Trinity?
Yes, the story steps will be restored to their original order. We’re looking into removing the airdrop step as part of the fixes as well.

The match IDs are GUIDs, actually.
In any case, as much as I want this API to exist today, it probably isn’t going to arrive any time soon
Tracked this one down today, hoping to have the fix deployed sometime this week. Thanks for the report!
If your accounts are already linked, you will not need to re-link them after changing the account name (e-mail address).
You can submit a ticket about all of your accounts at the same time. You won’t need to make multiple tickets for the different accounts. Just be sure to include as much of the requested information in the form as you are able to provide for the accounts. List the additional accounts’ information in the ticket itself.
I don’t consider it a walk of shame. I mean, death happens.
I have found, though, that if I’m trying to res someone and they suddenly disappear to use the WP, it can be a little disappointing. You know, we were nearly there and poof!
Too, if someone is trying to res me, I feel it can be unmannerly to just up and leave… even though occasionally I do so because I can see they’re risking too much to help out and I want to make sure they don’t incur death because of me. With no repair fees, it’s a little different now and the guilt isn’t quite as high. Still, seeing the ground littered with people who tried to help out is a wee bit embarrassing.
For me, “to WP or not to WP” it has next to nothing to do with the loot or the rewards or the daily points. It just has to do with how it feels at any given time, what’s right for my situation, what’s right for the group and the overall objective.
I just make it a point to declare that during Tequatl, Silverwastes, etc. People should not be ressing the fulling dead and that the dead should WP and get back.
And that makes infinite sense to me.
I posted this in the Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns Sub-Forum, but thought I’d ask the question in GW2 Discussion, too:
As you’re probably aware, ArenaNet will have a booth on the show floor at both PAX East in Boston and EGX Rezzed in London in early March. We’ll be offering hands-on demos of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns and engaging in all sorts of Guild Wars 2 fun. (I’ll be hosting trivia. <3 trivia!
) We hope you’ll stop by our booth so we can meet you!
In fact, I thought it might be fun to see who’s going to the shows from amongst our forum members. So if you’d like to share, post which show you’re attending, and feel free to say a bit about your guild, too, like the guild name, how long you’ve been together, how many members you have, etc.
We are really looking forward to meeting Guild Wars 2 fans and showing you our first hands-on demo of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns!
Oddly enough I’ll be in Boston during Pax East and then be in London….(well flying into and staying just north of) during EGX. Unfortunately I won’t be able to make either, but what a big coincidence. Wait…“There are no big or little coincidences, just coincidences!”
I don’t know. Gibbs’ Rules state there is no such thing as a coincidence.
ill be going to pax east like i do every year. looking forward to the demo and with talking to the devs
currently im in the guild fire and ice, i joined about a year and a half ago and i think the guild has been around for about 2 years.
Hey cool! We’ll see you there.
I never knew any of this was going on in London. Tickets are really cheap as well, I might see if I can grab a few people and run down for that Heart of Thorns demo.
Currently guildless, because every time I join a guild, they break up soon after, so I stopped seeing the point in joining guilds after about 2 years of this consistently happening.
Sounds like fun, Argon. Hope to see you there.
Id love to go…but i have no money for a ticket T.T Oh well, cant wait to see videos of gameplay from Pax East~
As for my guild, Formerly Krak House, Now Pack House. been together for 3 years now(formed during pre release), and at current count 494 members!
Dante, I sure understand that going to one of these shows is a stretch for most people. I’m thinking that mostly those attending will be pretty local (and sure, tickets can impact the ol’ budget, too). We’ll look forward to meeting you another time.
In the meantime, I love knowing about your guild — that’s just awesome to have been with us so long and have such an active membership. Give them all a “hi” from the team, will you?

I don’t want to kill the brainstorming….. but, there are no new weapon types being added in Heart of Thorns. Though, specializations will allow professions to use existing weapon types which they currently cannot use.
After some deep thoughts and a quick huddle over here we’re disabling /v2/floors, we’re not happy with how it looks and want to revisit it before anyone writes code to depend on it.
We’ll be switching the API frontends over to a brand-new version that is easier to maintain for us. This work also sets up the last bit of groundwork required to ship authenticated APIs, which we’re hoping to do next week.
Wow this is pretty huge news, and really exciting!! Just so it’s clear, is the plan/hope to have a thread to talk about future plans next week, or for the actual authenticated APIs to be available next week?
Both. The switchover in code happened this morning. Next week we’ll definitely kick off the CDI thread.
Not going to 100% promise that we will be able to enable the authenticated APIs then but it’s what we’re shooting for.
In the “managing expectations” department: The first authenticated API will be very simple. We’re starting with something simple and with low technical risk in case everything lights itself on fire.
Thanks Pat!
I wish the floors API would have been changed to be more useful. Seems like we still need to loop through the whole thing to find a single POI.

The floors API hasn’t gotten much love, as you can see. I’m open to changing the format because it’s straightforward for us to do. So far we’ve been focused on porting the previous API code onto the new backend and prepping for authenticated APIs.
What we should change the format to will be something we should discuss as part of the upcoming API discussion thread. We can use the posts you linked as a starting point for that discussion.
John, did it ever happen that a new feature or game mechanic that was proposed internally by the dev team was vetoed by you because it would have too big of an impact on the economy?
50 Times a week, I am the destroyer of the designers intention to make people happy.
This is live at 12pm PST, not 1pm.
About 25 minutes from now.
The switchover has completed. We’re not quite done with the maintenance, next we’ll be changing the DNS record for api.guildwars2.com to use latency-based routing to send folks to either the US or EU. Previously all API traffic was served from our US datacenter.
We’ve also enabled most of the rest of the /v2 APIs that were still disabled, though a few are still hanging out pending a more complete review.
The newly-enabled /v2 APIs are:
I think it’s worth asking about this. The Mystic Forge is a mystery to me, but I’ll pass along the concern.
Thanks for posting.
We’re going to be doing some behind-the-scenes maintenance in a few minutes, in theory there should be few/no user facing changes but you never know. Tests are looking good.

It’s not ready, but we’re working on a post with more details about our near & mid-term hopes and dreams for the API. We’ll be looking for feedback on the authenticated APIs as well as trying to give some sense of what we’re planning to ship going forward. The intent is to model it along the lines of the CDI threads you see for game design.

The forum specialist program was announced to the whole forum via this post in the News and Announcements section and more than adequate time was given for applications to be sent in.
Now, we are not having a discussion on how you feel about who was chosen, because he has yet to have the time to submit a single report yet. If you feel disregarded, blame the others who do post here for not submitting an application.
Now, the WvW forum is not to discuss the merits of this program or those who have been chosen to represent each game mode. If you had been paying attention, you would notice that Marmatt is attempting to reach out and work with the players who do post here, despite the less-than-warm welcome that he has been greeted with.
Consider that he is a volunteer and is acting as a forum specialist in his own free time and of his own free will. To me, that means something. To me, this means that he’s committed to our goal of improving communication between players and the development team. If you think he doesn’t know enough about the game mode to accurately represent your interests, then talk to him. Explain your passions and why you feel the way you do. You might be surprised at how receptive he is.
Now, this is the last time I’m explaining this. We’re not having more threads about Marmatt or why he was chosen and not somebody else who may not have submitted an application. Instead, try working with him, and if you want to apply in the future, keep your eyes on the areas where we make forum-wide announcements.
We are serious about communication, but there appear to be a lot of people who would rather complain about communication than actually attempt to communicate.
What a fine achievement. Congrats!!
I said this in the other thread, and I’ll repeat it here. If you feel Marmatt’s WvW experience isn’t up to snuff to take on this responsibility, keep it to yourself.
Wait it out and see how he does. If, after his stint is up, you still feel he wasn’t up to snuff then apply yourself instead of complaining about it.
The purpose of this thread was not for the lot of you to criticize Marmatt’s credentials as the WvW forum specialist. He created this thread to introduce himself and let you all know that he wants to do the best job he is capable in communicating what the people of this subforum deem important.
If you feel his WvW experience isn’t up to snuff to take on this responsibility, keep it to yourself. Instead, wait and see how he does, and if you still feel he isn’t good enough, maybe apply yourself when his stint is up instead of complaining about it.
He is more than his post count and in-game stats. Give him a chance and who knows, he might just surprise you.

I just wanted to provide an update since it’s been a while.
- We are currently working to restore the Greatest Fear storyline to the live game. I can’t provide a release date at this point.
- In addition to restoring the Personal Story steps to their original order we’re making some minor improvements where possible (e.g. recording new VO or updating certain conversations, etc.).
We’ll provide additional details closer to release. Thanks much for your patience.
That’s all well and good. Nice to know you are getting down to fixing it. Now, that just leaves the issue on characters who have been through the botched PS. Will you by some chance, make it replayable like you did with the Living Story? Because if I have to grind my charr character just to see the fixed version, that’s just bullcrap. :/
The Personal Story was never designed to be replayable on a single character, so making a change like that would involve a lot of revision (updating and testing hundreds of story steps). It’s simply out of scope.
The updated story steps will start with A Light in the Darkness.
I just wanted to provide an update since it’s been a while.
We’ll provide additional details closer to release. Thanks much for your patience.
I have to give you a lot of credit, Manu, in finding and linking all those posts. Very helpful indeed, and a lot of work. I really appreciate having that information!
I was really hoping to see the Mastery GUI. Don’t have to show them all, but give us howw they work in full, not just small teasers.
Those are things that aren’t ready to be shown yet, simple as that. But since we do have some things that are ready to be shown, we figured it’d be more fun for everyone involved if we let you see those things rather than nothing at all.
Thanks again for the feedback–it’s so great to hear that you enjoyed it!
When is pax east?
March 6th through the 8th.
Thanks for the feedback, everyone–we had fun with this one! Dave and Nellie are both first-timers on PoI and I really enjoyed having them on.
I’m glad to hear that so many of you liked what you saw. A couple of notes to help clarify:
Nellie didn’t have the full gliding mastery line filled out. She had the initial ability to glide unlocked and I think thick wings. Anything beyond that we didn’t touch, because this wasn’t an in-depth, heavy exploration. It was just an overview of how the system works and what it does.
Hey, that last thing sounds familiar! I’m pretty much always going to tell you what you’re going to get. If you’re going to get a show about the revenant, I’ll let you know. If you’re going to get a show about specializations, I’ll tell you. If the show will be an overview of masteries, you’ll know ahead of time so you can decide if that’s something you want to watch or not. We may not be ready to do a full reveal of every feature or item you were hoping for, but you will know in plenty of time what’s coming to the show.
For the purposes of this episode, Dave had a lot of information to share as the systems designer while Nellie spent time moving around the map as much as possible so the viewers could see lots of the map. One great piece of feedback I got last week was that the character on screen wasn’t moving around nearly enough, and the view was static and boring. It was a good point—this is a brand-new map and you all want to see more of it, so she kept moving to give you all a constantly-changing view as best she could. I think she did a great job.
As far as player out-of-game projects, Points of Interest is now 16 episodes and nearly eight months in. Player projects have been a part of the show for a long time. On every single show we’ll see at least a few viewers belittle their fellow players’ hard work because it’s not something they are personally interested in by claiming that literally “no one cares”, diminishing the work by making it sound like less than it is, insulting the artist personally, and so on. Of course none of the claims are true.
All of us here at ArenaNet have enormous respect for these creations, the artists who create them, and the work and talent involved. It’s why we give them our time and attention on PoI. They deserve it. All of you creating outside of the game, you have my respect and admiration. Keep it up!
I just wanted to let you guys know we haven’t forgotten about this issue.
We have several teams working on improving the things we have control over, and we’re collecting data to figure out which external network factors are contributing to the problem. While we can’t directly fix the latter, we hope that with your help we can gather enough information to work with ISPs to reduce the packet loss that’s happening between your computers and our servers. We’ve already started working with some of them, and appreciate whatever patience you can muster while we try to get the game playable again for you.
I’m waiting to hear back from a couple colleagues regarding our next steps. When I do, I’ll update this thread with more information on the status of the problems and anything else you guys can do to help us get this solved. Thanks again.
