Opening 1000 regular Dragon Coffers [Merged]
+1 for the issues with the coffers.
Coffers in gem-store is pure fraud, in the same way a lucky-wheel works. Want to waste your money? Go ahead!
And for the normal coffers. Fine, I can farm them from holograms. But seriously, 3k zhaitaffys and nothing….. Like someone said: With this droprate, it is impossible to enjoy the event, because you have to spend all your time farming coffers.
Oh I like the event, I just wish I could have the luck of some guy who really hates the jade ticket he got on his 34th coffer or something small.

“Seriously, just dodge.”
So quit buying the frigging things. How hard is that?
I would love to have that staff for my Ele, along with the wings but RNG is just NO!
…and apparently we need 100k Zhaitaffy for wings? I’ll go back to yakslapping thanks.
Yeah, cause as one of their “bright ones” said wayyyy back when. “We don’t make grindy games.” As if that aint been long proved a pile of bullkitten.
This is the 5th event they have added in the RNG box gamble, if they read the forums they know people hate it and the only conclusion is greed > care.
Arena Net reads these forums, and it is NC Soft that demands the RNG boxes. The developers aren’t the ones we should be complaining to; we need to petition NC Soft directly otherwise all these complaints are meaningless. Not because Arena Net doesn’t care, but because they are powerless to do anything about it.
Publishers control developers, not the other way around. A direct line to the developer will have zero influence on their publisher.
If ANet can’t be assed to pass on how kitten ed off people are about this kitten, then they are just as complicit, and kittens, as NCSoft is. They long since wasted their free passes.
The regular coffers are dropping left and right in the open world from holograms and regular mob drops. That may be a better chance for those that don’t want to buy RNG boxes.
Also if they sold the skins outright almost everyone would have them and then they probably wouldn’t seem so special.
Ya just spent $40 cash to get just one of those dam Tickets didnt get it Im sick of the RNG bull crap I’m uninstalling the game this just isnt right Anet
LOL, that seems like your problem not the games. From past experience/information on RNG crates you should have known the chances are slim. So your response is to spend $40 then delete the game? Something tells me that Anet won’t be going out of business because of you deleting the game, but I’m sure they appreciate you $40 and thanks for playing.
No. Everyone wouldn’t have one. The people who like them would. I wouldn’t have bought ANY of the previous event skins. NONE of them. As far as I’m concerned they all looked like kitten, or at best, barely tolerable. This is the first skinset I’ve actually liked. Nope. Ain’t buying sweet kitten all of rng-screw-you-sucker boxes.
Spend a bunch of money and gamble it away for nothing, or spend a bunch of time and gamble it away for nothing. Pick your poison?
Right now cool skins go to people with lots of disposable income rather than people who have earned them playing the game (no, farming and getting lucky is not playing the game)…so any argument about them being truly prestigious or novel is kind of lost. When I see a fused weapon, I know I’m looking at someone with lots of cash to throw away on gambling boxes or someone that got lucky…not someone that is particularly skilled at the game or has accomplished anything of merit.
Aren’t you presumptuous. Knowing who got what how. Guess you got cams watching everyone to make sure they earned it legit.
40 rich coffers and I got a ticket. 500+ regular coffers and only 1 mini pet. Its all about luck.
Thing is, how is luck of this magnitude fun?.. this game is supposed to be fun for its customers isnt it?
The only people who find this sort of ‘luck’ fun are consummate, addicted gamblers, which id assume are the people ANets or who evers economists are courting as their primary customer base… ie those who will regardless of the odds and forehead on table planting apparent ‘fun’ such longshots provide, continue to dump real money into it all to eventually get what they want.
Which means ANet in my mind is more interested in heavy spending ‘hooked’ players for its quick cash turn around than numerous, more consistent, sometimes spending cash for their own enjoyment, happy players.
On an aside…
I opened another 300 regular chests yesterday after spending all day farming holos (bought another 40 off the TP with some spare silver, like most people i havent got gold out the wazzo to spend on 1000’s at a pop so the idea of buying up 1000 at a stretch isnt realistic for most of us as some people have suggest we do), and got 2 more minis, and a single potion. why are these minis more common than pointless loot padding potions?
Now they’ve made the holos harder to farm meaning any protracted mind numbing farming attempt to eventually get a ticket becomes even longer to achieve, I should be ok since the time i farm em the zones are more or less dead.
Edit:- had a thought the other day about this, why oh why arent the tickets tradable to others? but made so they cant be sold on the TP. That way people who have some they dont want, as ive seen with at least 2 players on my own server, can give them to people who might want them or give to family or friends? or cant the games code be set to make an item non-account bound but also unsalable? Still shocks me that devs of a game dont even think of these simple things when designing such.
Sure it might open up scams or players selling them for large amounts of gold to others, but so what? Just dont try and get them from people you cant trust or dont know.

Tonight I was out in Brisban killing mob after mob after mob. And I mean mob after mob after mob. I had a moment of clarity, paused, and said to myself, "Wait, wasn’t I doing this in Southsun just last week? Why was I doing it? (the answer to that is not “to get those skins”, but the reason behind these crazy grinds) Was it fun? Is it fun now?" But more importantly, I’ve accepted that this is how it is here and going forward, I expect more of these casino-like systems. But I am not a gambler, will not become one, and am out-of-place in a world whose most appealing and exclusive items is designed to reward gambling. Neither is it wise (for me) to continue rewarding the company with Gem purchases for less desirable items, like wooden swords and staves (my Wintersday greatsword skin still sits in one of my character’s inventory, unused. I also bought the Staff and Longbow.)
It’s decision time.
Don’t get me wrong, there are other things to do in the game besides these insane gamble-grinds. I’ve done the ones I’m interested in and enjoyed the kitten out of myself. Get my money’s worth? Darned skippy! Thanks Anet! But the sun is setting and I’m very tired. I’ll say the words that some Risen do as you destroy them, and just as mournfully (female voice):
“The light… fades…”
Love you guys. Remember to stand up for one another when it comes to these important issues and not allow the unimportant squabbles we have here on the boards and in the game divide us. In the face of the things that do matter, they are insignificant – so support eachother! You know this already, but it helps when someone just comes out in says it. Stand united, or the Dragon will win.
Good luck.

I got one on my 3rd rich coffer it’s chance guys
From the beginning of the game I spend $20 each month in pet, skins, etc. I never spend a buck in this joke of RNG chest and dont start now with dragon boxes.
Yesterday i open 500 chest and only get 2 minis and crap, i still farm chest until tha last day of the event but if i dont get any ticket i never spend another dollar in this game in any aspect of them.
Until now im a very dissapointed player and costumer.
opened 1000 too look vid:
I think we are all disappointed. I do put $20 sometimes for stash tabs, character slots, infinite mining pick/sickle, etc. but I will never buy RNG stuff with my cash. I’m not putting one more dollar until this RNG crap stops. That is why I convert my gold into gems, because there aren’t much skins to buy in there and I don’t want to spend $50 for a skin.
I spend about 15 G for Coffers and 5-6 hours farming. I think I had about 1000 coffers or a bit more in total and got only 7 Mini Risen Knight, the rest is candies and crap, but no ticket!
I’ve played a game called Jade Dynasty which had a cash shop with 95% of RNG stuff. I spend way too many dollars in that game for RNG stuff and never got anything worth at all. I will not do this in GW2.
Stop with thee RNG crap and put more skins that CAN be bought.
I could have seen the skins go for like 600 gems in the TP or some Jorbreakers). But no, they decided to do it RNG-style. Well, I stopped farming them and I will not buy one more. If I get lucky, fine, but nothing more will be invested for RNG crap.
Since I’ve done around 2500 now, no ticket, I’m wondering when’s the best time to cut my losses and just sell them instead of opening while I farm, they are still decent money.
But I think the issue I’m encountering is that I keep thinking ‘well, I’ve gone this far, just gotta keep going right.’ That’s probably a very bad gambling addict mentality lol XD
I think if I had to look at this rationally, I would say that it doesn’t matter how many I open, rng is rng.. but emotionally I just think that cumulatively, if I just work my kitten off, eventually I’ll get a ticket lol.
It’s a tough call because I really have a goal set out and it will be a shame if I don’t achieve it because RNG doesn’t work out for me, or because I gave up, never knowing if that next coffer was ‘the one’. Ah the angst, but I think I will end up sticking with opening them knowing me haha.

This, very much so, and I was doing almost the same — I was wandering Brisban with my ranger (one of my many, many alts), and rather than doing the vistas, POIs, hearts, etc., I found myself constantly checking the map for the little holo symbol. I do like the fact the coffers drop much more frequently than they did in Southsun (never ONCE got a crate from a drop), but between holo/mob chests and those I bought off the TP (mostly out of curiosity), I opened over 500 last night and received little more than the candy, assorted food items, and a few of the minis and potions. The skins are very eye-catching and I wouldn’t mind one, but all-in-all, I’m not grinding out chests for the chance at one of the tickets. Would I like one? Sure! If I don’t get one, though, I won’t be heartbroken.
That being said, however, I quoted you Vawn because I agree — there’s a certain feeling, let’s say, in the game of a shift now to these RNG driven events. I understand a company needs to bankroll its employees, etc., ad infinitum, but this shift in focus is seriously affecting the overall ambience of the game, and it’s not a beneficial one. I think it would alleviate tensions, grief, and give an overall sense of relief if either the skins became available in the gem store, or if the tickets themselves became tradable. Or both. But one way or the other, I think the rule of baseball is going to apply for a significant number of folks … we had Southsun, now we’ve got the Dragon Bash … if the next event comes with a new set of RNG boxes, I think it’s going to be three strikes and you’re out.

Very nice, grats! Four in 1000 chests, not bad at all.
1100 Normal Coffers: 9 Minis, No tickets.
1000 Normal coffers, 3 tickets, 6 minis and a bunch of potions and stuff.
Gandara
Try just to farm the normal dragon coffer, they drop quite often or just buy them off tp which is cheaper than the rich version one. EVERY mobs drop them.
I got like ~53 crates in one hour farming and got 2 tickets from it.
you got stupidly lucky. I’ve opened over 400 boxes from drops and nothing of note and so have many others. RNG sucks.
From all the coffers i farmed in wvw (approx 250) i opened them today and recieved a weapon claim ticket, alot of potions and x3 minis.
I would still urge anyone to boycott the rich coffers, however I am very pleased that anet have included decent ways of getting the normal coffers in game. Making them drop from worldwide mobs or players in wvw is amazing.
As much as i hate to say this; I would be fine with this as a RNG system in the future.
Also just as a special mention, got 2 holographic wings drop today in wvw. Now just to wait and hope the prices skyrocket after the event finishes.
Thank you A-NET. Please don’t listen to these complaints. This event is awesome. The coffers are awesome. And the rare drop rate for the tickets is awesome. I love the suspense!
I know!!!
How dare these people complain about having to roleplay chinese gold farmers or drop 50 bucks for the chance to obtain a single ticket for a single item in a one-time only event.
This event is literally perfect and i would love to fellate the brilliant mind who thought up this method of item distribution.

as for my own stats:
500~ coffers so far:
0 tickets
5 minis.
(edited by docbon.3486)
20 total coffers from WvW
1 Risen Knight
1 Ticket (Got the GS)
600+ opened so far. (500 bought, the rest just gotten from holograms and monsters)
No tickets, about 6 minis.
And then we all have a friend who gets more tickets than he wanted and says stuff like “hey, if I could I would trade it to you”. And we hate him so much for that.

OKAY. I have been averaging about 50 coffers an hour just from simply running around on one of my lvl 80’s doing map completion. Since this event will last a month and it is only day THREE and it is more than possible to accumulate thousands of them, how can you people possibly think you would be getting tickets as frequently as you seem to think you are entitled to get them? If the drop rate was the way you wanted it to be then every player would have multiple tickets by the time this event is over. Therefore, the skins would not be rare OR special AT ALL. They were even nice enough to let us buy the wings once we’ve earned enough candy. WHY would you be buying ANY coffers on the TP to begin with? You get them from like 30% of your kills. It is so incredibly easy. I think it is actually extremely fun the go out and work on map completion and events for an hour (ya know, actually playing and enjoying the game) and then i get these extra coffers to open and have the chance of getting a ticket for a super cool skin. I haven’t gotten any tickets yet and i am extremely excited to keep playing and earning more coffers to hopefully get one. You should all relax and just play the game and enjoy the event and keep earning as many coffers as you can. My point is that this is fun if you can drop your sense of entitlement and stop acting like 5 year olds.
Thank you A-NET. Please don’t listen to these complaints. This event is awesome. The coffers are awesome. And the rare drop rate for the tickets is awesome. I love the suspense!
Excuse me but WHAT?
First off, these are celebration skins that have NO stat boost or bonuses so why should you or anyone care how many people have them? Who care’s if they’re rare? They look unique but you can’t even sell them (no gold can be gained or loss with it’s “rarity” ) and they’re special because they’re Dragon Themed so seeing more people with them wont change that.
Second, it’s not like EVERYONE having theme will just make it so that you’re forever doomed to see them all over the place. SAB skins use to be EVERYWHERE … but time moved on, new contain came and new shinys were the hotness. Now it’s not really common and in most cases I only see them when people are going for a “look”.
Also, I have to lol at the “they’re nice enough to let you buy the Wings with candy” part. That unbelievable number of candy they want you to gather is just amazing. People have done the math and yeah, the only “nice” thing they did was allow them to be A. random Over-World drops (Been trying but I can’t seem to see any logical pattern to how they’re dropped. At first i thought it was just from Vets cause that’s how I and 3 others got ours but now I’m hearing other stuff) and B. Trade-able so that someone can just buy them and be done with it.
And sense of entitlement? Most people would like to just buy them and be done with it, move on to worrying about other things and enjoy the game. That’s what I wanna do at least … buy the skins I want and support the game with money without having to worry about the RNG and TIME LIMIT for this event.
Thank you A-NET. Please don’t listen to these complaints. This event is awesome. The coffers are awesome. And the rare drop rate for the tickets is awesome. I love the suspense!

Sorry, I worded it poorly. The event is yearly, but I think these specific rewards might be one time only, kind of like the dragon masks every year for the first Guild Wars (until 2012).

I really want to thank those of you who are posting the results from the coffers, especially the “Rich” Dragon Coffers that are basically have the same chances as the Southsun crates. As a result of the information here, I will not buy any RNG coffers with such ridiculous odds for this event or any future events. And now I can safely save up for a PS4 lol.
Only the greatsword and shield look nice anyway, so don’t feel bad!
Thank You GW2 community!
No Thank You ArenaNet!

Finally, got a ticket after opening 1138+ boxes (regular dragon coffers)
(The + is because I opened some boxes before I started keeping track, but it wasn’t very many, no more than 50-70)
About 1500 regular coffers now. No ticket.
I spent some gems on the rich dragon coffers understanding that there would be a good chance I wouldn’t get a ticket. However, I wasn’t prepared for how utterly lame it would be to get a few pieces of candy and a common food item. Hooray! Crap!
Then I went out and purchased / farmed about 1000 regular coffers and got nothing as well.
I cannot stress enough how incredibly lame and disappointing this is. I actually think these events are cool, but this RNG lameness has brought it down.
I certainly will never, ever be buying another gem from Arenanet again. They clearly have no problem taking their players money and giving them nothing for it. If feels like a really slimy scam.
Yeah, the RNG boxes are lame enough, but at least during events where they have put the rare loot inside Black Lion Chests you get some stuff worth having as a consolation prize. (I don’t find them worth it with no event specials, but at least with event specials it isn’t a total waste of money).
The utter kitten they put in the coffers is sickening.
They are definitely thumbing their noses at the customers, pushing to see just how much they can get away with before they start to demonstrably damage the game.
I don’t get it.
I would buy the tickets for gems if it were possible. I would happily give between 800 and 1000 gems for a weapon skin… But I will never buy boxes, never did. With this drop rate it is a waste of money. So ArenaNet if you want my money make these skins available in gemstore and I will be the happiest little boy in the whole world to pay.
Offtopic: After work it isn’t fun to waste several hours with standing around next to LA fountain… Imho it would be better if we get less but bug-free content.
I opened 23 rich coffers, 1000+ Dragon Coffers, and got…. NOTHING!!! It’s very upsetting to waste so much time for so little reward. I think some accounts are rigged to have no chance of getting them.
8+ hours of grinding holo for 1k+ coffers baught rich 20 coffers for the rest of my game money …i have 30 copper across 8 characters left and I dident get a single weapon ticket I FEEL SCAMMED! deprived and angry.
According to wiki its a 0,18% drop chance…srsly WTF how greedy can you kitteners be. If we play the game and really trying to get an item SHOULD WE NOT BE ABLE TO GET IT? BIG DISEPOINTMENT
2000 regular coffins and… finally got a ticket! At least it won’t feel like a complete waste now.
Hi guys,
Its not my place to vent my desillusion at things the way they are.
I really like the event and evrything surrounding it, the holograms are neat, dragon ball is fun, the pinatas with dragon motif are original and there’s alot of stuff dropping.
That being said.
The chests are a dissappointment.
I only wanted to get one ticket to have a nice longbow skin for my WvW ranger.
So i went out the first day the chests were released and gathered them like mad i think i got between 200-400 chests.
The result of opening them was meager: 7 holographic knights heaps of z., a couple of candy no ticket.
After that i sold most of the things i owned raising between 20-35 gold and bought chests.
The result of opening them was again meager: 7 holographic knights heaps of z., a couple of candy no ticket. The money i made from the knights was again pumped into the game. Result nothing.
I see some ppl in Lions arch spamming multiple dragon items and tickets, the funny part is its all personalised so i don’t understand the ppl discussing the rarity of the items the value is nill since you can’t trade the items?.
I’m not a big time farmer or spender like some of you obviously are. What am i doing wrong? I just would have liked to have one ticket.
Sad bunneh
D:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rich_Dragon_Coffer/drop_rate
Out of 214 Rich Dragon Coffers opened by 8 different people (not me, haven’t bought any of these) as of now…. 0 tickets.
Even though I don’t intend to buy these, I wouldn’t have imagined the drop rate on the gem coffers could be this horrendous…
If we take that the price of each Rich Dragon Coffer is $1 each at lowest, that’s $214 spent and not even one Dragon’s Jade Claim Ticket? That’s disgusting.
And let’s be honest, the weapon ticket is the only particularly desirable thing in those coffers. Even junk like those mobile consortium tool things and the Karka potions and the Halloween potions are more like a slap in the face than a consolation prize.
Wow… I honestly feel sorry for those 8 people that collectively spent $214 for trash, because it seems like for every person winning out there, there’s another 10 losing as ArenaNet and NCSoft happily rake in the profits.
ArenaNet and NCSoft, this is just wrong. I’m sorry, I didn’t want to badmouth you, and I like this game a lot. But I’ve held out on saying this for long enough. These RNG boxes are a greedy scheme of blatantly misleading marketing and taking advantage of gambling psychology. And I’m glad that I haven’t spent much on these RNG boxes, but I’ve had enough of reading about people getting screwed over when spending large sums of money on these things and getting squat. These are people supporting you with money and it’s like you’re laughing at them since you already know that getting anything of value from these boxes is apparently miniscule.
I had high hopes for the MMO that was trying to eliminate the faults and lame parts of other MMOs and was trying to do things right. But I guess that was just preparation for stuff like this. If I knew that this is what it has to come to in order to keep the servers running, then I wouldn’t have bothered supporting you by buying your stuff on the gem store since it’s obviously just chump change compared to what you make off of luring in gambling addicts. Companies like you, casinos and banks with schemes like you, and the suckers you take advantage of… You are a part of the reason for society’s problems.
I can’t support your gem store like this. I think you’ve already gotten a large enough cut from those people that got suckered into your sickening RNG box scheme. Your weapon designs are getting worse anyway.
Go ahead and blacklist me, watching businesses intentionally doing stuff like this ticks me off.
(edited by Arnekun.6170)
^ Wow.
Arena.Net/NCsoft/Whoever runs the gem store, that is disgusting. I’m very glad that I haven’t wasted any of my money on your scams.
I stopped my normal coffer farm to check on the disaster zone and find this. I just got 1 out of 3 of the tickets I want, after I don’t know how many Coffers – I have however collected well over 6000 Zhaitaffy in total (selling Jorbreakers to buy coffers). Close to 3000 Normal Coffers I’d bet…
I have no problems supporting a company, buying items from the gem store – I have bought Krytan Armour and the cool Bow. But, like I have said in a different post (or was it in this one..), when I spend money on something I expect to receive what I paid for.
Vote with your wallet, people. Every event that comes by, we have people buying 1000s of [insert RNG box here], then posting their results in threads to complain about chances. You know full well that the chances are gonna be low to ensure artificial rarity that benefits nobody whatsoever, so if you’re against the practice, simply don’t buy the boxes.
I guarantee you, the day RNG boxes stop being profitable is the day that they will no longer be used as a business practice.
Edit:
“GW2 – the game without grind and farming” © ANet ^^
LOLGo back and read what they actually said. They want you to grind for cosmetics. They don’t believe in farming for top tier stats. As in my 10 gold exotic weapon performs just like a 2000 gold exotic weapon.
“We don’t make grindy games” – someone at anet.
Does ArenaNet have a gambling license to sell these boxes anyway?
You don’t need one for virtual items, as you don’t even own your account.
Hopefully this loophole of law will be fixed sometime soon. Item Mall games really need some sort of regulation.

Someone gets cool stuff for free randomly. Someone is working hard and gets nothing. It is SOOOOO FUN!
35 riches = lots of candy, 2 potions, 6 foods, and 1 pet….these boxes are out right rip offs imo.
Over 2k regular coffers = lots of candy, 5 potions, 24 foods, 6 pets…
Due to never getting lucky in any RNG to this date including this event, I have come to the solid conclusion that I will never ever ever get these tickets. Sad too, all I want is the staff which is the first model I actually like. And to think I have to win this lottery 2 more times for daggers.
Well, it won’t happen I guess.
Should I now skip eating food for a week in order to buy some more boxes then? Lookin like it.
(edited by fixit.7189)
I got a jade weapon ticket last night off a holographic mob. Is there any way to check how many coffers you’ve opened?
I’ve mostly been playing like usual (1 to 3 hours a night, most nights of the week but not all) and not farming the holograms but killing any I see on the map, my achievement so far is 73/300 holographic enemies killed and I’d estimate I’ve gotten about twice as many from regular mobs, so I’d guesstimate somewhere between 150 and 200 regular coffers opened. Haven’t gotten anything else other than candy, food or fireworks, so no minis or anything like that.
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.
And…
2100 Coffers…
I got one!
FINALLY! Oh god RNG almost broke my spirit, but it is true! Money (or in this case around 75g) will bring you happiness!
Going to have to sell every coffer from now on to make back all that cash…but at least I finally beat the RNG.

My stats:
I opened about 600 and got one ticket.
After I got my ticket I’ve been giving all of my regular coffers to my husband, and our guild has donated some too.
He’s at ~3100 regular coffers opened. nearly 30 holo dragon knights, enough taffy to kill Abbadon, potions and food. and Not.One.Single.Weapon.Ticket.
We will be continuing to battle the evil RNG Dragon tomorrow. Wish us luck.
Another 500 coffers opened, still no ticket. 1 day close to leave this f…ing game.
