G9X has this issue. Lets get this fixed ANET.
Left clicking workings fine, so presumably I could position my camera with left click and then right click to make my character to run that way while I hold W or whatever…

Try checking and updating your optional windows updates regarding USB here is one i downloaded cant remember others.
(kb2529073)
After you install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1), binary files in some USB drivers are not updated. For example, the Usbport.sys, Usbehci.sys, and Winusb.sys binary files are not updated.
Seems to be ok now for me since updated but only tested on four pvp matches, not saying this is the solution but for me things seem to be running as they should, ill keep testing.

I’ve been having this problem for a couple weeks now. When holding down the right click to turn the camera and/or my character, it doesn’t respond. Instead the mouse cursor slides across the screen without doing anything.
I actually thought it was a problem with my mouse and I was going to order a new one. But before I did that I decide to google the issue and this forum thread came up.
It’s incredibly hard for me to play like this. I use the right click to position my character and to do sharp turns, about faces, and turn the camera quickly. Since I’ve been having this problem, I’ve been dieing a lot to bosses I could otherwise solo and I’ve been losing a lot of duels in pvp. In pvp, usually after a roll, I will quickly use right click to turn my character and the camera around to start swinging my sword. But since it’s unresponsive, I swing and only hit air, also, the camera doesn’t turn so I lose sight of the enemy and I’m left open to get hit very hard.
If it helps. I’m using Windows 7 professional 64 bit and my mouse is the Razor Naga.

I have the exact same problem. But this is not a game bug. This is a pc problem. When you use a button on the keyboard your mouse loses focus. I don’t know why. So there is my solution. I know this is not a perfect solution but it works. If you’re using a mouse with extra buttons use one of them for move forward. When you do that the focus problem will gone. But remember it is hard to get used to it. This is probebly a hardware problem but i couldn’t fix it.

i would say from reading a lot of these issues are from people with razer mouse and for a incredibility over priced mouse they must have lousy build quality

I didn’t have this issue 3 weeks ago. It’s something that just started within the last 30 days or so. I didn’t change any thing on my computer, so I don’t know what caused this to start happening. I don’t think it’s my mouse cause my right click is only unresponsive in gw2.

Recently bought a Steelseries Sensei mouse about a week ago and haven’t had this problem since the purchase.
(my G9X was getting kind of old and needed replacing anyway)

How are you going to blame the mouse for something that is clearly a game issue? I use a razer naga and the problem started for me around the time they introduced fractals. Since that time I haven’t had the problem on any other game.
After roughly a year of checking in every couple of months to see if the game was playable it was finally fixed for me with the halloween patch. There was one other patch about 6 months ago that it worked but then the problem returned with the next update.
This is a game breaking issue that needs to be fixed. I can play right now but I’m worried that at any update I might lose that again.

Try this:
ESC -> Options -> General Options -> Combat Section
Check “Promote Skill Target”
Would this really fix it? This just looks to promote the target when I attack.
This worked for me!

Well I have 5 members in my household that plays. Some use the logitech wireless trackball and some use the wired version trackball and normal mice. We are all having the same problems with the right click movement and on my dual monitor it goes off screen no matter what changes I have made. It has gotten a lot worse since the last few patches. It is to the point it is game breaking. On some of the computers it will go off screen and go to the desktop when using mouse movement.
I can’t believe they have not fixed this issue yet.

G600, same problem, seems worse recently. Also AA cancellation seems worse than ever.
Edit:
Hmm, seems to be when I use skills after pressing G-Shift. In my case, I can see how it may recognise the Gshifted and normal ‘right click’ as different functions. I think that’s the answer for some of us here.
Edit2:
Yep, reassigned my buttons, sorted my issue.

My mouse works completely fine in other games (ffxiv arr at least), right clicks when its supposed to, turn when its supposed to. Since launch this had been happening and has yet to be fixed. I do not think its a mouse’s problem but something in the game.

This is still a huge issue. Can we get a developer in this thread please? It’s making the game nearly unplayable for me. ArenaNet keeps saying they want GW2 to be an e-sport, but that can’t happen if mouse turning is so problematic.

Hi All…
I have been scratching my head about this issue for a couple days. I haven’t ever had this issue and I have played since day 1 (no changes to my system hardware at all). It really does make this game almost unplayable. Made it to the last thread of this post and read matupower’s post about Windows 7 SP1. Turns out I just installed it around the same time as the issue showed up.
I will update my post if I find a solution.
See you in game!
Applied a bunch of updates, including (kb2529073) … No fix.

I spent a lot of time with tech support trying to figure this out since my initial post. The issue is definitely not on the player’s end. It’s the game. I use razor naga. The closest I got to a fix was totally uninstalling all razor programs and drivers, but the issue came back within a week and has gotten progressively worse since. Currently, any type of pvp and pve is extremely frustrating. It makes the game totally unplayable in regards to anything that requires any type of combat.
Please fix this problem. The issue is with the game, not with any individual player’s hardware or installed software. I’m just waiting for any new game to come out at this point because trying to play like this is kittened.

So this weekend I worked kitten trying to find another fix for this just to be completely sure the problem isn’t on my end. I did a total reformat of my computer. The problem still persists even after I updated every driver to the most recent one after a fresh windows install and fresh install of the game. I’m not using any razer drivers or software also.
And I’ve pretty much figured out that the problem arises when trying to attack while holding down the right mouse button at the same time while you’re strafe-turning your character and/or turning the camera. If you don’t attack, while using the mouse right click for turning character/camera it works fine. But if you try to attack while using it, the right click doesn’t register.
I am 110% sure now the problem isn’t on my end.

Shame, but I’m having the same problem. Logged back into GW2 to check out the Lion’s Arch debacle and immediately experienced this problem. Updated software/drivers for the mouse, same exact problems. GW2 only program/game where this issue occurs. So, uninstalled GW2. Kind of stinks having to uninstall a game because the mouse doesn’t work, when the mouse works with EVERY OTHER PROGRAM. And, seeing as how this forum topic covers around 12 months and 11 pages of problems you’d think the customers would get a developer response here. I sure hope it’s resolved soon.

Im getting the same problem. The thing is two days ago i was playing gw2 on my laptop everything is working fine except the laptop is old so i have to play on lowest settings. So i buy a new computer! After downloading/intstalling gw2 (almost fell asleep waiting) i try it out with my new computer (at this point im like 10 years old again at christmas eve) and discover this gamebreaking problem! Ruins the whole game if the mouse looses focus from time to time. No more tpvp for me :C Why is it that on my laptop my mouse works fine but on my stationary it looses focus!? same mouse kittenit! ^^

Having this issue as well, turned off all that “Right click does X” garbage and still has issues. It’s like the game doesn’t like the fact that the player can hold down right click. It just randomly goes, nope, you’re not holding it anymore. Very game breaking for PvP when you need to turn fast to stay on target.

Having same problem. I’ve tested out of game and there is no problem with the right button.
Now that I realise what is happening I think it has been going on a long time but seems to be worse now than ever.
Wondering if it is to do with the dual monitor setup. Occasionally it randomly throws me out of game to the other monitor.

I actually contacted support about this again last week. I asked them if there was any news of a fix for this. This is the exact response I was given:
“This isn’t something Technical Support can offer assistance with. The issue has been reported and only development can address the core cause at this point. Please continue to monitor that thread for any updates.”
The last time a tech support has posted in this thread was over a year ago. And I don’t believe that a developer has ever responded to any of the issues in this thread that is over a year old and 11 pages long.

I had this problem out of nowhere, I read a lot on the gw2 forum, However i found a fix on a none gw2 forum. close the game, right drag on the desktop. well in the middle of a right drag hit “esc”. That should fix it. It sounds simple but it has worked for me so far. Try a few times just to be sure you got it.

Also having this bug lately.
From testing, the game client only allows right-click to be held down for 3-4 seconds, after which it brings up the mouse cursor on its own. This is not an issue with the mouse itself as it is capable of holding down right-click in other windows and on desktop for an indefinite amount of time.
This is very disorientating for people who hold down right-click to turn as the game will decide on its own to release the right mouse button for you, even in the middle of a turn.

Had this issue before and it went away. Its back again :-(
Right click button on mouse works fine but in larger scale fights (WvW) it will intermittently not register ending up with me dying as it failed to turn the camera.

To start: I have a standard Razer Naga, and am running on a Windows 7 Dell XPS 1500 series gaming laptop.
I had this issue a lot when I first started playing, I thought it might be something wrong with my mouse but odd that it never happened in other games. It suddenly stopped happening after one of the living story patches [I believe right after The Nightmare Ends] but seems like in the last day or so it has come back, and is much worse than before.
I have tried adjusting my mouse settings [including increasing and lowering sensitivity, poll rate, and temporarily disabling the thumb grid], disabling my laptop’s touchpad, selecting promote target, and alternating between running in windowed and full screen mode. I have updated all drivers and again tested the response in other games, including original Guild Wars, where I have no problems.
I have made sure that I am not attempting to right click drag over any UI, other players, or background objects/mobs. Sometimes when it chooses not to respond to drag, it will open the party kick menu as well, so it’s registering that I am right clicking but it is not registering the drag.
I have also tried this with and without the Razer software running in the background, again it doesn’t seem to effect the issue one way or the other. I have seen several other comments saying that this is an issue with Razer mice and software but over half the thread and several of the members of my guilds having this same problem are running Logitech, Steelseries, and other assorted brands on both single monitor and dual monitor systems. Therefore, I don’t believe that the issue resides in the brand of mouse I choose to use but in something broken in the UI of the game.
Hopefully this is fixed in the near future, because as is it is near unplayable.
Thanks,
Tif.

Guys. I was definitely on top of this issue. I posted in this forum a few times and even sent a few emails. I even had a couple sessions with one-on-one support. I played other games and it didn’t make any sense to me that the issue was only in this game. Now, having said that, I have to say, my bad. It’s not the game. It’s my mouse.
My mouse is doing some sort of double/triple clicking so quickly that it wasn’t registering in other games. But that is what is causing my mouse issue. All this time I thought it was gw2 but it is definitely my mouse.
If you’re using a razor naga like me, the issue is probably the result of double/triple clicking, or just the click-thingy inside of the mouse malfunctioning. If you wanna test it like I did, just hold down the right click on your desktop and drag it. If the box it makes keeps folding over and no options pop up until you let go of the mouse then your mouse is okay. But in my case, when I dragged the mouse on the desktop, the options kept flickering in different places the mouse was dragged to without me even having let go of the clicker.
So arenanet, I’m sorry for accusing you. And people, check your mice the same way i did. I hope this helps some of you. Razor nagas are both amazing and terrible at the same time.

Wow. I didn’t even see your post before. But it’s exactly as you said. If I push the button like you say then I don’t even experience it. It’s awkward to push it this way though. But it will help me a lot until I can put aside the money to buy a new mouse.
Can you tell me your personal opinion of the logitech g600? I was thinking of getting that one next. I must have a mouse with a keypad on the side.

Hi,
I’m also having this exact camera mouse problem with my Logitech G700 (wired mode).
Yesterday I tried to troubleshoot/fix it myself, and here’s what I found :
- Using a software I coded for the matter, I found that GW2 sends fakes double clicks, on a delay no human can achieve (double clicks of 13-200 ms). Trying to filter or negate these fake double clicks is still under work. A log of my software can be provided for further investigation.
- It happens in wired and wireless modes
- It happens with and without the mouse software in memoryI noticed another thing, I don’t know if it’s linked :
When you have nothing selected and you turn your camera, if you directly face a pnj (without selecting it), it highlights itself. It’s like a semi-selection, and maybe it bypasses the focus function ? Juste a thought.I confirm this bug is extremely annoying, and could become a game breaker if it is not fixed quickly.
To me (a developer myself), a main component of the game is currently broken : the camera.
Please fix it ASAP.
bumping this because the problem is worse than ever on my g9x. and i think this dude has it figured out, listen to him. my camera cant seem to rotate in really intense fights. problem is resolved BRIEFLY when i switch usb ports, before starting up again after a few minutes.

I was having this issue on a fresh install of Windows/GW2 this morning, and then proceeded to update all of my drivers (which included USB drivers) using the SlimDrivers tool.
Just as a note, I have a Razer Naga Molten.
Everything seems to be running swell now though that I ran SlimDrivers and went through all the available updates.
