It was never gone for me.
That is the same for me. Though once a week or so I am able to have 2 or 3 minutes free from the clutches of this issue, but it then returns with a vengeance. :\

This behavior just showed up for me after the most recent patch. Right mouse button is basically ignored. Nothing changed in my setup (except for the GW2 patch). Running a Microsoft Arc mouse… Hoping it goes away…

I’ve been having the same issue but it has been manageable (although annoying sometimes at PVP), however today was impossible to play at all as it occurred almost every time. I’m using a Logitech G400 and I’ve only experienced this right click issue with GW2.
Also (not sure if it happens to others to): Sometimes the dragging stops (even though I didn’t release the right button) and if a selectable object (npc, player, etc) happens to be under the mouse pointer it selects it, breaking my target focus as well (this happens with great frequency). It’s as if the dragging stops and it detects that the mouse button is still being pressed and issues a click and continues the drag motion.
Hope this gets fixed soon.

After months of not having this problem, it’s back. I have both options for clicking to interact turned off.
Confirmed here, too.
Windows 7 Home Premium
Logitech G700 (issue persists whether USB-cabled or wireless , and across all polling rates from 125 hz to 1000 hz)
– Driver: 5.33.10.0
The issue seemed to have been resolved last year, but as of the past week, it’s back with a vengeance.
By the by: This issue isn’t necessarily entirely on ArenaNet’s end; I’ve noticed (and reported) identical behavior in BioWare’s Star Wars: The Old Republic as well as Turbine’s The Lord of the Rings Online, but far more sporadically, and only ever for brief moments.

This issue is definitely back, and quite badly as well. While doing invasions it’s really hard to get the camera moving, I’m literally smashing my right mouse down several times just to get the game to wake up and realise I’m trying to move the camera. Accidental targeting of enemies when letting go of the camera is back as well…
It feels very much like how it was back at the launch of the game, and I’m absolutely certain it was much better before the most recent patch. My mouse itself is fine and has no issues with right click in any other games.
I’m using a Razer Naga with the latest drivers, Windows 7 64-bit.

So, by way of update, my issues with this problem are seemingly gone after having removed all of the Windows USB drivers and allowing them to be reinstalled, then updating each of them manually. I also uninstalled the mouse in question’s driver, purged all of the Logitech driver software from my machine and cleaned references to it from my Windows registry, then installed the latest Logitech software 8.50 (08.26.13)
After a reboot, I’m no longer noticing the incessant stuttering and focus-loss at all, even during crowded and intense events.

The problem now also applies to my left mouse button. I have no idea what’s going on. It will work fine until I start GW2, and after that holding my buttons is unreliable until i unplug it and plug it back in. What the hell is this?

I’m also having this issue with the rmb. It appears more often since the patch that addressed culling in pve was released.

Posted by: Tau Quaon.5041
Same problem with rmb here. It wasn’t allways like this. I noticed the problem after returning to playing GW2 after summer break. Rotating camera with right mouse button is either not triggering at all OR it loses focus in the middle of being held down. This is a makes many jumping puzzles and difficult fights very very frustrating. For me this is the worst kind of game breaking bug or whatever is behind the issue here. The fun factor of the game is lost if you can’t control your character properly.
I hope Anet will give us some kind of responce since last reply from them was 7 months ago.

Never had any problems with GW2 but now I too have this problem since like 2 days or so…
When I right click to change direction, most of the time I can see my ingame mouse pointer and it just slides over the screen instead of grabbing it.
Very annoying and makes the game almost unplayable

So, I found a fix for this on my PC. I was having the issue with Logitech G700, Windows 7 64-bit. Not sure if relevant, but I run windowed with 2-3 monitors depending on if using quad-sli or not. Anyway, if some people try this and it works, a mod should stick this so other people don’t have to go through 10 pages.
For giggles, I tried running Guild Wars 2 as an administrator. Problem seems to be gone.
If you aren’t sure how to run as administrator, all you need to do is right-click your Guild Wars 2 icon and select “Run as Administrator”.
I hope it helps other people too

I have been running in administrator mode since install. In the last week, i have both left click, and right click issues. When turning with the mouse, GW2 seems to miss the right click, at times. My left click issues are mainly with inventory, GW2 doesn’t want to “hold” the item so that I can move it.

Adding another user with the RMB sliding across the screen after releasing issue. Doesn’t happen all the time and I haven’t been able to pinpoint a common reason. I am using a Logitech G5 mouse. A respsonse from the devs on this issue would be nice as this makes the game darn near unplayable…. HELP!!!

Same thing happening to me. Mouse looses focus and I have to reclick the rmb (sometimes several times) to get it to work again. I’m using the G700 and reading this thread makes me wonder if it’s a problem with that mouse. We need a response to this problem. I just came back after a year but I’m not going to spend more money on this game if I can’t play it properly. This is the only program where I’ve had the issue.

Wow, having the same issue now and it’s rather disappointing that ANet wouldn’t post the least bit of tech support feedback to an issue that is prevailing for a year now and seriously ruins people’s game play experience.

Did they do something on last patch or what? My mouse just started losing focus on turning camera too!

I’ve finally determined the cause of the issue.
I disassembled many optical, laser, wired and wireless mice to find a common defect within them. I disassembled several variations of the Razer Naga mice, a Razer Copperhead (my favorite mouse), several Logitech mice, a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer, and a few generic brand mice. I found the same exact issue to be present in all of these mice.
The quick and easy way of explaining it (with the Razer Naga as an example) is:

The quick and easy way of explaining it (with the Razer Naga as an example) is:
- The flat piece on the under side of the button that contacts the ‘click’ activation button becomes worn down due to being made of soft plastic and because the mouse buttons can move side to side slightly. (arrows on attached image)
- This leads to the button activating with gentle pressure applied to the center of the button until it clicks (red prohibited symbol on attached image), but adding a little bit more pressure causes the worn down soft plastic to slip off of the activation button slightly…leading to stuttering activation based on pressure and angle.
- Because of this, you will need to push against the outer right side of the mouse button (green target on attached image) to fully activate the button as pushing at an angle causes an area of plastic that is not worn down to contact the activation button.
I’ll update again when I finish the graphics, photos and writeup of the issue.
Thanks for the info!
It worked for me the last 2-3 hours of game but, right now, it’s losing focus again even pressing in the right side of the right button.

What a horrible bug. I just started playing and thought it was a dirty mouse pad or a dirty mouse…not so.
So I noticed I can consistently reproduce a right-click failure if I click on a large AE spell and/or many particle effects from another source. For example, if on my mesmer I cast Chaos Storm (5), then try to pivot 180 by right clicking within that storm I just cast, it’ll fail. I won’t turn. Very frustrating.
I don’t see how it’d be possible to do high-end content or PvPing. I’m just leveling now but when I get to 80 I may be done if this isn’t fixed.

Appreciate the research, but honestly, why would this issue only persist in Guild Wars 2? While your explanation sounds reasonable and explains a lot, it seems odd that so many players have the issue while having no issues in other games?

It is not only in Guild Wars 2, it is just that players are not pressing the button down in other applications as they do in GW2.
Honestly, I think players push their mouse buttons down harder in GW2 which causes the issue to become apparent. Players also have to hold down the mouse button for longer periods of time for orientation and they would then increase their pressure to maintain activating the button. In other games and applications, players would primarily just press it down once to click it and not hold it down for a long duration of high pressure on the button.
One can reproduce the issue outside of GW2 if they pushed down harder. You can even see the issue presenting itself with your mouse cursor on your Windows desktop; the right-click menu should not appear until you release the right mouse button, if you push down as hard as one does in GW2 (and pushing/sliding to the right at an angle), then the menu pops up while you are still holding the mouse button. This shows that the mouse button did slip off the activation button under the right mouse button while still holding the button down, otherwise the menu would not come up until the mouse button was fully released.
As an example, I have bound my right mouse button in Dead Space 2 to bring my gun and flashlight up, the same behavior exists in that situation also if I press down harder to cause it to slip off/disengage the activation button under the mouse button.

I tried to repro this using my Naga outside of GW2 and I was unable to. This particular Naga – I’ve had 2 – is about a month old.
Switching to my 6 year-old intellimouse optical which unquestionably has much, much more wear and tear on it resolves the problem.
This problem may be related to a physical contact glitch within some folks’ mice, but I’m just not buying that this many people have all gone clicking mad and not noticed it in any other game or desktop app otherwise.
That said, your work and theory are appreciated. More than we’re getting from Anet.

Some have reported it being an issue in other games and in the Windows environment as well (here and on many other websites), though it seems to be much more rare to affect users to that degree and most only experience it during GW2 play.
I’ll keep looking through aspects of hardware and software to see if I can find another cause or one that works in tandem with the issue I outlined to some degree. I was hoping it wouldn’t be of a much more complicated nature, but I’ll see what else I can dig up.

I’ve been having an issue with my mouse right clicks focus as well.
I was in Arah yesterday with my guild and suddenly whenever I tried to move my camera with my right-click, it would make my character run. If I’m lucky, I can sometimes move my camera up to an aerial-view without my toon running, but that’s all I can manage with luck.
It also requires multiple clicks to open up the windows when right-clicking on certain items.
Though, I can move my camera only by pushing down on the right-side edge of the RMB.
Edit: I’m using an Azza gaming mouse.

Nice research from your part, its sad that you are working harder on this than those who are suppose to fix things, this bug have been out since release and no attention were given. I gave up on that game because of that.
I really think its because the game cannot support high tech mouse. When i play WoW (wich have the same mechanic to move the character) or any other mmo, i dont have this problem with my naga. When i switch to my 10 year old microsoft mouse the problem is solved.

Also the problem now exists in other applications such as Windows desktop and Unity3D.

It’s possible that your wear pattern on the soft plastic that contacts the activation button is reverse of what I outlined and is worn down on the right side due to how you hold your mouse. In your case you may want to click from the inner left side of the button where it meets the scroll wheel instead of on the outer right side.

Solution 1: Try another mouse.
If that doesn’t work…
Solution 2: Try another computer (like a library’s computer…). Even old OLD computers can run this game without too much of a problem… (i had a computer running XP playing this game with a flat 8fps…)
Solution 3: If another computer DOES NOT DO IT (or if you have no access to another computer…) Make sure your game is FULL SCREEN, and not windowed border. (Just to test it…). If it minimizes your game, you need to figure out what other process on your computer is doing it and it’s obviously not GW2.
Solution 4: If it doesn’t minimize and mouse loses focus, it’s an internal problem with your .dat file, and you may need to re-download it.
Solution 5: If none of these work, I have no more help for you…
Disclaimer: Do each solution in ORDER. DO NOT SKIP!

So far I tried this and its working a lot better than before.
Right click your Guild Wars 2 .exe file.
Go to Properties
Compatibility tab.
Check “Run this program is compatibility mode.”
Select Windows 7 (or whatever your using). The default was set to Windows XP.
Run as admin (For good measure)
Run GW2.
Naga users do the same for Razer Synapse.
Hope this works for ya.

You are a smart one sir! After reading your post, i did a simple test which never cross my mind, i went into desktop than hold the right mouse button and tried dragging throughout the desktop, you are right, the button disconnects. And here me thinking it’s a problem with guild wars but in fact the problem is with the mouse. I too own a Razer Naga. I’ve just ordered myself a new Logitech G602 mouse, should be in on Monday. Thanks for point this out to me. The right mouse buttons works fine if pressed once, but when u hold the button down then it deactivates from time to time.

So I submitted a ticket. I am very disappointing with the service. I never thought I would pretty much get the middle finger on this. Heres what I sent:
“I use a Razer Naga (wired). For a long time now I have been have an issue with using the right click button to rotate the camera. Sometimes when I click the cursor “grabs” the camera to rotate but while I have it held down it loses focus and I end up moving the just the cursor. It then sometimes takes me 4 – 5 attempts of right clicking to reacquire the camera. This can be very frustrating at times.
Now I have tried updating all my drivers, firmware, Razer Synapse. I have ran Synapse in compatibility mode for Windows 7. Ran both Synapse and GW2 as admin. I have done steps the your tech support emailed me before. Deleting the local.dat file in guild wars 2 roaming folder. Also ran the GW2 repair. And to no avail, the problem keeps coming back.
I have tested, tried to replicate this problem in other games like, RIFT, Final Fantasy XIV: Realm Reborn, and even Skyrim. I had no problem what so ever, only in Guild Wars 2.
Now to me while in game, I have noticed that it the severity of the problem increases when in proximity of other players/NPCs. So I tested turning off “Right-Click to target/interact” but it didnt even phase the problem, just made to where I wasn’t selecting random objects.
I also don’t think its lag/latency issue, because I can be in Lions Arch and once I have to camera, I will slowly move it back and forth, and once out of every 3 to 4 attempts the mouse would lose its focus and release the camera."
In a about 30 minutes I get a response:
“Thank you for bringing this issue to my attention. This is actually a known issue, you can find the forum post here:
I would encourage you to add your voice to this thread.

Ok peeps! Try this simple test and this should prove without a doubt if its a faulty mouse/bad driver problem.
Go stand in one of the more populated areas you can find. I used LA.
Now hold down both left and right mouse buttons. And just run around LA for a few minutes.
In theory if this a worn out mouse button or a problem with your mouse in any way, your character should stop running on occasion.
If they don’t it is more than likely a problem with GW2.

Im still having this problem with my g9x logitech mouse, since launch of the game so thats over a year now. My mouse is wired btw. I already talked to support back then but they couldnt help me much. I have all the mouse software installled, up to date, and the latest nvidia drivers. Rolling back to older drives doesnt solve it either. Cleaning registry doesnt solve it either. I only have it with this game. Im again using this mouse since i play battlefield 4.
Ive been using a cheap replacement mouse for month to not have this issue occur however now i use my old mouse again the problem still exists.
