General Consensus on Condition Damage?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

This is something that just does not concern me much. We have multiple character slots so I can have zerker and condi toons. I love my necro. However I realized long ago that it was never going to be able to do some things. So I built other characters to fill that void.

You just cant turn condition cap loose. It would be a meltdown of epic proportions. Condition builds would be the new meta overnight. Its a tricky, slippery slope. However it is easily worked around by having different characters for different jobs. Its just not that hard to have at least two 80s designed for different things in a very short time even for an extremely casual player.

New Player, so excited!

Describe GW2

I have no problems recommending it. Sure there are issues I and many others dont like, but what am I gonna do? Go spend another 8yrs at WoW? Play WS, AoC or (insert tried and failed MMO here)? What you have here is a one time investment up front. Anyone should easily be able to have $60 (give or take) worth of fun here. After that, keep playing or move along.

If the content becomes old or unfulfilling…guess what? It wont cost you one red cent to come back later. You could even log in, do the dailies and go play something else till an expansion or something happens in the game to pique your interests.

The discontent comes from people that love this game. They want to see content and expansions delivered on a timely basis. I do think they forget however that once Anet has your money, there is no flow of new money into the game besides the gemstore and I think that is not sufficient to pay out a dedicated team to deliver new content. If anything, it may just be paying to keep the lights on and the salaries of the few still there.

This is my story....

I’ve been playing this game consistently since beta, I used to love the leveling system, it was a great way to make gold through key farming

Fixed that one for you.

So I head to the next zone as I’ve completed EVERYTHING I can do in the starter area. Enter the next zone, get one shot by some random NPC.

How long have you been playing again? Oh right…since beta. I could go into the next level appropriate zone naked and not get one shot by an NPC. Obviously you are doing something wrong.

OK, I log out and enter Eternal Battlegrounds as I’m seriously stumped as to what I can do to level up.

(scratches head…) Since beta huh?

OMG

Never take anything anyone says seriously when they put stuff like this in their post.

So it seems my only option to is to grind npc’s around my level for a few levels, hmm no thanks, I log out and go and play PS4.

Well there you have it. The game is just too hard for you.

Nothing about this post is remotely accurate. The game is different for sure but it is in no way difficult. I can level a new toon to 40 or so in a couple of evenings the way the game is now and the devs themselves admit that some fine tuning is required due to some unintended problems. So I can surmise that leveling will be even better when they rectify those problems. I have a mesmer that I have only just been piddling with since patch release and it is already level 37.

I do urge everyone reading these posts to take them with a grain of salt. Consider the true source of their discontent and perhaps really give the new experience a try for yourselves. If you get one shotted by an NPC in a level appropriate zone while wearing level appropriate gear and while actively trying not to get killed…I will give you a shiny red apple.

Thank goodness I didnt go through beta. I might not have survived.

Key Farming (exploit) Y/N?

You know most of the “I’m a veteran and hate the new leveling system” posts are really from veterans that hate the new key farming experience. You can see through it a mile away. So does Anet. The new system is quite good I think. I have leveled a new mesmer to 37 so far and dont feel it has been as grindy as it was in the past. In fact I like it. I can see where a new player would really enjoy it.

Giving Up

I wish Anet would dump or lock all the “I QUIT” threads. They bring nothing to the table but negativity. The very nature of these posts is divisive and their intent is to stir up angst among everyone.

I seriously doubt even 10% of them are actually leaving. Even if they do they will be back after they have tried a few other games. Gamers are gamers. They dont die. They dont suddenly take up gardening. Even with all the changes, this game is still the best out there and I think it will remain so and hold up well against the new releases. After the ranting exodus of a few disgruntled people happens and they go to the other true P2W games, they will be back. Count on it.

Do you think they're making it too easy?

ABrooke.7129

As a player of the game for 2 years, of course its too easy for me now. However some of the changes might have been most welcome when I first started. Some people pick up on new, unknown things quicker than others. But you cant necessarily assume that everyone will do it just as easily. I do not have any issue with the new patch aside from some bugs or unforeseen side effects that were unintended. I believe they will tune this new experience a bit more and it will be great. A few months from now we will all be able to look back on it and see if it was a good or a bad idea. Give it some time.

Returning to the game after a long break.

No, it was not an exploit. Thats not to say that Anet liked how it was working. Either way it does not matter much now. Move along folks…nothing to see here.

1. Join a good guild. You dont need to do it right away but this will help you more than anything.

2. Many ways to go as far as leveling but just completing heart quests and zones is in my opinion the best way to level as that will open up heart/karma vendors to you and get you waypoints you can use later to move from area to area.

3. Work your way through zones that are level appropriate. Each zone on the map has a level range associated with it. I generally do my starter area first, then go to Lion’s Arch via the Asura gate in your home city and from there go to another races home city and do their starting zones. Rinse repeat. You will meet folks along the way. Talk to them in local. You will eventually find a person or a group you enjoy running with and probably join their guild.

4. Warrior is a solid choice for your first character. Can do about anything with them.

5. If you need a break from zoning, try world versus world or player versus player. Youll get smashed over and over to begin with but you will get your feet wet. You may even get good at it. Dont fear doing it. All you can do is die a virtual death. There are no fair maidens there to be embarrassed in front of

6. Welcome to GW2. It is a game that is what you make of it. It has strengths and weaknesses but I do dearly love it.

“I’m fairly certain that asking to expand the world beyond the current map is a fairly reasonable request that most MMOs pursue. Very few MMOs remain in a static world state and focus entirely on social development.”

The problem with that is there is no rate of development for that part of the game that could ever be satisfactory. They spend 6 months developing new content to have it blown through in days or even hours and then here you will be asking for more.

It is a problem I do not understand. I have seen it in every game I have played. I would wager that if you went to (any game forum here) and looked it over, you would see much of the same of what is posted here. Why do what has been done or attempted before? Why not address parts of the game that can provide more longevity?

If you were to be bluntly honest with yourselves, you would see I am right. Just sit back and think of what could be done to address what you see as shortcomings of the game. Truly ask yourself how long that fix would satisfy you. How long then would it take for you to come back and ask for more? Thats not a healthy way to grow this game. To do what has been done over and over again yet in the end satisfies none.

If this game is to thrive, it must go in a different direction other than new content band aids. It must add real meat to the menu. Something that connects people to the game rather than an appeasement of temporary proportions.

I believe the game should get back to its name. Build this game through guild promotion and interaction. So many different ways to go there that would be lasting.

Im NOT asking for “more stuff”. What I said was that if they are just going to design new stuff, do it for areas of the game that people DO enjoy and are Not whining about.

Social development could be anything that encourages group participation. Anything with guilds for example. Make it so guilds from the same server could interact in skirmishes, races or parties. Give them guild housing, halls or monuments. Those would be lasting improvements that wouldnt get old.

There are quite a few of us who dont whine about this game. We enjoy it as is and if there is a group that should be catered to it is us. We will be here after you have worn 2 or 3 other games content out. We will be here when you come back asking for “MOAR CONTENT”.

There is no game that will be forever rewarding to those who are dungeon crunchers. There never will be. If there were a game like that they wouldnt be here. Nobody can create PvE content that is forever rewarding. It gets old no matter what you do. Instead, do things for aspects of the game that are fluid like PvP and WvW. That would be far more beneficial than anything they could do for PvE.

Im happy with the way it is. If they dont change a thing I will be here. All I am asking is that if they are to spend any time in development, do it for those of us that already like the game, not for those that will be threatening to leave again inside a month of new content being delivered.

New content…new content…new content scream the forum warriors! Am I the only one that hopes these people are not catered to? I mean its hopeless for Anet to try and meet these peoples needs. They devour new content much faster than it can be developed anyway. No matter what happens this will always be the case. These people will never be satisfied…ever.

I would much rather see real meaningful upgrades to the parts of the game that are ageless. PvP and WvW come to mind. Id love to see something done to expand the benefits of being in a guild. Houses, halls, castles…etc. It is Guild Wars after all, not Dungeon Wars. Upgrades in these areas would be lasting and would in my humble opinion be more worth spending limited time or resources on than more story or dungeons that will be conquered in a few days.

I would like to see more emphasis placed on social development of the game rather than to cater to the new content lobbyists that fill these forums. You can continue to chase the proverbial tail of these all consuming people or go in a direction that is both unique and rewarding to players who already love that part of your game. You will never get ahead of the new content people. But you can cement the foundation of your game by expanding what really is great about it.

Quit chasing their tails Anet and make this game great for those of us that do not bash it and love it for what it is.

Can GW2 be saved?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Okay….you basically say that anyone who disagrees the game needs to be saved should shut up and sit in the corner. Getting pretty tired of some of the people in this game that feel they are entitled to have something done “their” way. I love the game as it stands. Many I know that do as well. If you really dont like the game I just have to wonder why you are here at all.

Well, just received a response on my ticket from Jorge. They are convinced I was using a 3rd party program to play the game. I guess my keyboard or mouse is the guilty culprit. This is just beyond bizzare.

“Put your big boy pants on and accept that they will look into it, and if you are deemed fit, they will correct it.”

No, I think at this point and time I just want the money Ive spent on this back. Like Ive said, been playing for less than 30 days anyway and have this to show for it. I really liked the game but this gestapo “We will ban you and you will like it” kind of stuff really leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Plenty of other options out there to blow 160 bucks on than this.

So yes, I will put my big boy pants on and do what every consumer does when they buy a lemon. They take it back.

My machines are not on when I am not here. I do shut them down when I am not using them. I dont have ingame idle time. If I am done with the game, I log out and shut the machine down shortly thereafter. I really do think that the dude watching me farm reported it and thats what got me. Thing is that I was there. I was slinging the arrows, not some macro whatever.

I have filed a report, repeal or whatever you want to call it. I understand this process is going to take D A Y S.

What nobody seems to get is that I was wronged. This kind of action is completely uncalled for. I have been playing this game for less than 30 days and am currently perma banned. No explanation given other than somehow I violated the TOS (which I did not). Im out $160 (two games, 1 gem purchase. One game is still playable but since it is something my daughter and I bought to do together, it really is a loss of two games).

Yes, I know that saying something about it here is apparently useless. Im intensely frustrated. At this point I am thinking I just want my investment back. Im not going to go through this every time someone thinks my relentless assault on some mob is an exploit.

Normal playing won’t get you banned. So forget all your ideas about it.

Yes it can. I am an example of that. Nobody but my daughter and I have used these accounts. She only gets to play when she is here (spends weekdays with her mother).

My point is that if I can be banned for just farming grawl for jute because someone reported me as a bot then it is likely to happen again the next time I farm for mats.

It smacks of guilty till proven innocent.

Having to post this on my daughters account as everything on mine is locked down so my apologies for that.

In short I finally arrive at the weekend and am sick with some kind of crud, so I figure to log into GW2 to level my leatherworking a bit. When I go to log in I find that I have been permanently banned for botting. Ive never botted in my life. I cant think of anything I have done that would prompt such an action. I was farming grawl for jute and noticed a person standing on a rock just watching me. I thought it was weird at the time but I suppose that person did report me as a bot. I can assure you however that I actually was shooting each one of those grawl lol.

Now what bothers me is that I see no way around this. Certain things must be farmed (unless I am missing something) to advance professions. Am I looking at getting banned everytime I farm for my next batch of mats? Now I was actually at the keyboard. Was running no 3rd party mods. No attempt was made to communicate with me. Just a player apparently decided to be my judge, jury and executioner and hit the report button. Then arenanet hit the ban button. All because Im killing grawl to get jute.

This is very disheartening. If you could see my armor, weapons etc, you would see that its all made by one of my toons. Crafting in mmos has always been my thing. Im not farming for gold. Im just trying to advance my professions. My kid and I just got this game back at the first of January and have not even been past the lvl 25 zone outside of the Norn starting area. Highest level toon I have is lvl 24 or 25.

Does this not seem to be silly to anyone but me? I just spent real money on expanding my bank and two additional character slots then BAM….Im banned. Im sure they will at some point review this and reverse it, but is this what I can expect from this game every single time I need a glob of jute/wool or leather? This kind of kills the very real zeal I was beginning to have for this game.
