In conclusion to above post, i would say that is is relatively worse to play on the newer client despite it looking better due to how poor the performance is.

Overall the client looks a lot better however the ability to play the game smoothly is really rough.
On my above screenshots i could hardly manage to play in verdant brink without getting around 1-10 fps while looking at the graphical intensive part of the map (the upper canopy)
I actually managed to get better fps in the zone Ember Bay, but that zone always gave me some of the best fps in the game.
In Lions Arch the game wouldn’t let me take a screenshot for some reason in the new client but i was averaging about 10 less fps in the newer client.
The settings seem pretty off from each other, but the graphical intensity of the 64-bit client just seems better so a lower setting on it = a higher one on the older one.
I’m on the 2012 macbook pro retina.
2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz) with 6MB shared L3 cache
8GB Memory

good god i hope it’s not a condi thing.
It’s a godkitten sniper, you don’t play a sniper to take potshots at your enemy and hope they bleed to death you play a sniper for massive huge damage from range.I’m fine with some condi support but considering that the majority of the ranged options for thief are already at least condi leaning….. If they do make it a condi weapon/spec i think i’m going to pass on the expansion unless the torch necro offers something really surprisingly good.
This is also a game where i stab someone around 1000x and magically they are still alive lol. Regardless i think condi would be super cool, the power dardevil spec is really terribly designed.
It has no real purpose over standard d/d. It’s literally even less interesting than play than d/d.
Oh yes all the skill required to play daredevil ! Let me dodge into the mob un-target it and press 2 after every 3 auto attack chains. Frankly the fact i have to un-target and look down for weakening charge to hit 3 times is really annoying and an artificial skill implementation.
I’m hoping this allows us to actually use all the skills on the rifle and makes us switch over to another weapon like d/d to make an actual rotation, perhaps allow us to switch to different rifles as like a temp weapon ~
I also hope it’s condi because our other high damage ranged ability is pistol/pistol which is power damage.
Condi thief is way funner to play than the stupid staff spec. Also i’m hoping it’s a combo of both, like dagger. Where one skill is condi and the auto attack has an bleeding attack. Hopefully the new abilites are good as well. Although if the new spec had a condi part it would be super op, being able to have super high damage on melee and ranged.
Will the Rifle be Condi or Power?
Thoughts?
Perhaps possibly both?

Okay so i’ve been playing on the mac client for about a year now and here is how i feel about the client.
I run on 1440 x1080 on like mediumish settings (the auto-detect)
2012 Retina Macbook Pro 15"
8gb Ram.
I7- 2.3ghz
Nvidia 650M 1GB VRam

And i can get around 40-50fps in the core zones just running around pretty easily and can spike down to 10-30 at times depending on the larger zones, for example the kessex hills tower area really is intensive, larger zones can be a bit difficult too. As far as HoT zones go it’s about 20-30fps on average and anywhere from 5-15 on a bad spike.
On the lowest graphics possible i can push 60+ fps in the starter zones and like 30-50 in HoT zones.
I think the native client will make this game super playable on a mac. I only rarely crash and its typically when i’ve been playing for like 6+ hours and the client just needs a refresh and then its good again.
I’m not really having any of the issues anyone else in this thread are, i only crash when i’m doing Dragon’s stand and it’s only at the end cut scene and even then it only happens an 1/8th ish of the time.

While i agree that the weapon needs fixing i don’t think nerfing #5 is an good option. I just think skill #1 needs like a 300% damage increase, same with skill #2, skill #3 is fine, #4 needs damage increase.
As long as you can do 30k+ on the training dummy you can raid on a DD and be super useful
I mean i ran a wing 1 raid the other day with 4 daredevils, 2 chrono, 1 druid, 2warrior and 1 ele, we cleared the entire wing pretty decently easy /shrug. Thiefs can really clear anything, their great in wing 1(cannons, vg (lose on gorseval tho) can do sloth, matt, wing 3 anyone can do
Honestly all of the builds are kinda useful
P/P – Best ranged dps, use it all the time for unload (can get hits up to like 66k when you get 3-4 unloads going)
Shortbow – Solid utility, port useful in raids, useful in pvp cause bounce, decent damage
D/D – Good damage, as good as staff
S/P – Dodge on pistol whip, good for tanking, immo #2, blinds, headshot.
D/P – PVP is pretty amazing, kinda bad in pve tho.
Staff – The best thing atm for really anything, vault is bomb, damage is good, access to blind, access to roll back evade, not much else to say other than too good not to use in pve.
P/D – Kinda bad, don’t even remember what it gives tbh.

Also rifles are silly.
Dagger/Shield would be dope, make us Rogues and give us debuffs like that dude up top said.
If that is what you want then I would recommend playing some other class completely.
With this attitude thiefs will always be near useless
I can not do anything else but disagree.
Bard is better for the Ranger because generic irl lore goes along with it much better than Thief. I do agree we could use some group utility and also that Rangers already do have their fair share of them as Druids. Double casting might be okay if Thief used cooldowns, but now if you learn to manage initiative right you can be very efficient in battle.
Thief as a class can be very useful to group now. I’m not very experienced with WvW, but for example there we can use stealth to see if enemy is behind a corner and then coordinate an attack with main group -> I attack from behind as others attack to the front.
Instead AoE ressing I would love to have a skill to force dead ppl to teleport to nearest uncontested wp ^^
Also I would like to add I say this all as quite casual Thief, I do not have the best understanding of out mechanics but I like to think that I know at least something.
Lore standpoint we are your typical rogues in a mmo standpoint. Double casting is meant to be given to the allies around us, not thieves. In other words you hit double cast, ele meteor shower hits twice.
Turn us into ‘bards’.
I basically want the thief to have a new specilization that allows us to use focus’s and are able to bring utility to the group.
Give us aoe rezzes, group buffs that grant power outside of might stacks.
Give us an buff to allies in aoe that gives them damage effects on a trigger, alacrity, unlimited dodges for a brief moment, double casting abilities. (a way to introduce co-ordination to raids on high damaging abilities others might cast).
(just some ideas, don’t blow this up in comments (this wont work!!!!)
Something that allows us to be useful, thieves are extremely underpowered at the moment, despite our high damage; it is more beneficial to a group to bring someone who can buff and do equal or slightly less damage.
I believe giving us focus’s and buffs to the group would allow the thief to be viable in raids/group situations outside of stealth.
