You can pay to get better at this game, but there is literally nothing to win here with money.
There is no gear treadmill. Exotics vs Ascended are like what, 5% difference?

I’ve been doing WvW and dungeons(not fractals) for about 95% of my playtime and I’ve never needed/wanted ascended. I have ascended trinkets that I essentially got for free from laurels, then I made a backpiece to complete the set. In WvW, I’ve dueled people with full ascended vs my exotic/ascended mix gear and I’ve easily beat them.

I got some ascended armor and weapon drops, but it was some crappy combo that I didn’t use.

I guess the only thing that’s pay to win is to look better, using cosmetic items. But I mean, that’s not really winning.. is it?

yeah it has some issues for sure, but you do not need gems at all to level. bit exagerating

I know you don’t. I thought it’d be best to exaggerate the topic as much as I could so ANet realizes just how bad this move was.

There are tons of threads by now. You could try and make a constructive post in one of the existing threads.

But does ANet even read the replies on there? I thought it’d be better to make a mindless rant by creating a whole new thread.

There’s nothing in the gem store that will help you level any faster, though.
O_o
I’m not the biggest fan of the new leveling system, and how I have to grind out somewhere between 7 and 10 levels every time I finish part of the story.
Or the extreme hand-holding on a new character.
Or the fact that I can’t consistently rally until level 19, due to the skills being locked.
Or the elite is 10 levels later.
But you know what?
It is what it is.
There’s no changing it now.
So, you might as well get used to it.
Go dance for a cow in Queensdale, I hear dancing makes you forget all your troubles.

There isn’t. That’s why I said to convert them to gold.. o.O

But yeah, you’re right. Looks like I’ll have to get used to it.

But by the looks of things, and the sheer amount of people complaining, I won’t be surprised if ANet decides to change some things back or hopefully do a complete rollback on the new leveling system.

Sir, your post make no sense.

New leveling system = total headache.

How do you get rid of total headache? You don’t use the new leveling system.

How do you not use the new leveling system? You craft.

What do you need to craft? Materials.

How do you get materials? You gather, or buy. Gathering takes forever. So you buy.

How do you buy? With gold.

Don’t have gold? Buy gems and convert to gold.

??? Profit for ANet.

With the new leveling system in place, it feels like ANet is assuming we are all 5 year olds trying to the to play the game. I’m somewhat of an altoholic and honestly, this change sucks. Before they completely overhaul certain parts of the game, they need to do some kind of Public Test Realm from Diablo 3, or Community Test Environment from Battlefield 4.

NO ONE asked for these changes, and yet ANet thinks they can go ahead and overhaul certain parts of the game because they think it’ll make the game better. It is so frustrating. What do they want us to do? Press 1 all day? For us veteran players, it looks like the only way to go around with this is to craft. Craft craft craft. Welp, some people don’t have the money to craft, so it looks like we’ll have to buy gems to convert into gold so we can.

Adrenaline.2854

The QQ in this thread is ridiculous. I play a Warrior, not main, but I’ve had a good amount of time put into the class and I can say that the class is still a little OP compared to other classes.
On top of being super tanky while doing a good amount of DPS and CC, and then still have a kitten load of mobility, I can easily say this class is THE easiest to play.
In WvW or SPvP, how many classes can go full glass zerk and yet remain tanky while doing 10-12k burst on a relatively short cooldown? I’m talking about the axe’s F1.

The argument with Thief is that, unlike Warriors, a Thief has a higher skill floor than a Warrior. Sure, when a Thief is skilled he/she can be annoying, but a Warrior is just so easy to play and master. And once you know how to play against a Thief, it’s easy pickings. I can 1v1 a Thief no problem on a Ranger.

Well, you are a ranger, why not bearbow to take them out?

Also, some real advice here, I would reroll. Rangers aren’t allowed to do jack kitten in the endgame because they are seen as an inferior class. Not saying it’s right, just saying that if you want in on all the content I would go with something else.

Some real advice, haha. Just. LOL.

Don’t listen to this guy. He has no idea what he’s talking about. I main a Ranger, and let me tell you, only people who have no idea how to play this game see Rangers as an inferior class.

On your topic, OP, go around and do more hearts, events and grab those skill points and vistas. Basically, do EVERYTHING.

I am very disappointed.

Adrenaline.2854

Ill say Guardian is easier than Warrior unless theyre both full zerk.

Anyway, just because I LIKE the class, and enjoy playing the class doesnt mean I cant speak the truth. Just because I know there are things wrong with it doesnt mean I cant play it. If thats how it is, than literally everyone would just play guardian and warrior, which is the case for the most part anyway. I like the Ranger simply because of lore, I like rogues and archers and rangers etc but the Ranger in this game is very similar to the Warrior, just worse in every way. I mean kitten, dont put in the description of the class how good Rangers are with bows if the Warrior is 10x better with the kittenen Longbow. I dont like comparing everything to Warrior, but its the class Ranger is most similar too. I mean kitten, cant we swap the rangers longbow skills with the Warrior? Or the GS skills? I think we only have them beat on War horn. 1HS is a toss up. And I dont “main” any class anymore, I play them all pretty equal, but Ranger and Mesmer are my favorites

I get what you’re trying to say. It’s just you said Rangers are garbage, when they’re totally not. Even if they’re not as good as other classes, they’re far from garbage.

I am very disappointed.

in Ranger

Posted by: Adrenaline.2854

Adrenaline.2854

no no, its garbage. I like it, but its not good for PVE. For highest dps, especially in certain fracs, stacking is necessary/pushed and 1hs/wh/axe is not good for stacking at all. Also, Frost Spirit is a terrible version of a warrior banner. The thing can die and you have to trait for it to move with you, while a warriors banner last forever and you can simply carry it along and sit it back down (for a blast finisher, and get swiftness and fury along the way!) without having to trait for it. Yes, we can open world solo better than other classes, but thats nothing to brag about. In dungeons we are the only class not wanted, openly, and occasionally a necro gets the frown also but nowhere near as often. Spotter is great. Ranger damage isnt on par with warrior, we may thing it is because of the numbers, which on paper it does truly look like we are, but a warrior will hit multiple enemies and stack might for the party while a 30% of a rangers dps is coming from a pet that may be dead or only hitting one enemy at a time, which isnt keeping up with other classes at all.

Also, back to frost spirit (which I DO use btw) it is just so inferior in how it works… its ridiculous. It isnt worthless, but whem comparing it to a banner its just a good good laugh

You’re saying ‘we’. So I’m guessing you play/main a Ranger, correct? What I don’t get from a lot of Rangers are, if you like the class, why do you keep bringing it down? If you think it’s garbage, why keep playing it? Surely, playing a garbage class isn’t fun.

Like I said, and I’m sure everyone knows, Warrior is a pretty easy class to learn and master. In fact, it’s actually the easiest class to play. A bad Ranger is near worthless, a bad Warrior is still useful. But when you have an experienced Ranger and Warrior, they’re both good.

I am very disappointed.

in Ranger

Posted by: Adrenaline.2854

Adrenaline.2854

I was nodding my head and agreeing with you until I saw PvP/WvW stand point. Rangers are good there, its PVE where they are garbage

What makes Rangers garbage in PvE? In open world, they can solo the content no problem. In dungeons, they can give support though Spotter and a Frost Spirit to boost the group’s DPS up, while their damage is practically on par with Warriors. Just because a class isn’t as easy to play as other classes, doesn’t mean it’s garbage.

Are pve rangers really that bad?

in Ranger

Adrenaline.2854

PvE, as in open world? If so, then Rangers are probably at the top.

If in dungeons, they’re at a pretty good place. Most everyone has a general thought that Rangers suck in dungeons. Which they do, as will any class if the player sucks. It actually takes some thought to be good/useful in a dungeon. A bad Ranger will be dead weight. A bad warrior/guardian will at least contribute something. I play a Ranger and it’s funny when I see a warrior/guardian doing so bad compared to how I’m playing on a Ranger.
TL;DR Rangers take more skill to be good in dungeons.

If in WvW, Rangers make excellent solo roamers and small team roaming with a condi/regen build. A power build, not so much.
If you’re zerg surfing, then a power build with LB and traited for piercing arrows and 1500 range makes you golden. But then again, you just can’t blindly spam auto attack. Your weakness are thieves who target you with they’re ability to stealth and KO you assuming you’re running a full offensive power build.

I would say it’s worth playing it again. If you have fun with it then I don’t see why not. Like I said, the Ranger takes a lot more to make it good than an “average” player.

Adrenaline.2854

From someone who has played the 2nd and 3rd betas, and started with the headstart at launch, I was so ecstatic about this game. I thought this was going to be THE game I was going to be actively playing for years to come. Turns out it wasn’t. In the 482 days I’ve had this game, I have a total of 1,362 hours played across all characters, and I don’t ponder in Lion’s Arch doing nothing too, so all my hours are from actually playing the game.

At one point I took a 3 or so month break, because there was nothing to do. I had nothing to look forward to. It’s as if hitting 80 and then gearing up was end game for me. Sure I still had dungeons to do, fractals, world completion, and more, but it was just boring. I felt like there was no sense of progression. The only thing that’s fun is WvW, which is probably where 800 or so hours is in from my play time.

I have a total of five maxed toons, all heavy and medium classes. They’re all pretty geared up, exotic wise. Which brings me to my next point. Fractals. I’ve never had the NEED to get ascended gear. I found doing dungeons pretty boring. The only ascended gear I have is the ones from the laurel and badges of honor vendors. Now with the introduction of ascended armor, I WAS planning on finally grinding to get some.. but I got lazy.

I still haven’t gotten world completion either. I have no need to, and I don’t have the urge to. At one point I wanted that shiny star next to my name, but I got over it. I also don’t have the urge to finish world completion because I have no urge to go for a legendary. My friends have legendaries and always ask me if I ever get jealous or feel the need to get a legendary. I always tell them, kitten no. For a couple reasons, I hate grinding, most of the legenaries look like total bullkitten, I hate grinding, and I hate grinding.

But I guess there are some really good points about this game. It’s not subscription based. Even though I don’t play this game much, I’ve still bought gems with real money. You’re probably wondering, “If he doesn’t enjoy the game why is he giving more money to ANet?” The answer is simple, if I wanna buy something from the gem store, I will. I’ve bought all the unlimited gathering tools, tons of transmutes, town clothes, gem store only armor skins, and others.

I’ve also never had the need to get gold. In all the other MMORPGs I’ve played, I’ve always felt the need to get money, and be rich. Even if I’ve already pretty much got the best gear. In GW2, I don’t feel the need to get the best gear, or get huge sums of money. I’ve never been “poor” though. I’ve always had plenty of money to buy all the stuff I need, and still have enough to buy a bunch more crap. I just wish WvW made you richer, besides following zergs, because that’s no fun.

And all this Living Story mumbo jumbo, I haven’t even paid attention to the story itself. I only did them for the skins when you finish a certain amount of achievements.

All in all, Guild Wars 2 is a pretty good game. You’re not forced to do anything you don’t want to. I’m a pretty casual GW2 player, and even if I go away for a while, I don’t feel like I’m behind. Sure I don’t have the BiS gear, but it’s alright. Dungeons are stack and zerk all day anyways, besides Fractals. In WvW, as long as you’re 80 with at least all exotic you’re fine. Then it just comes down to player skill(coming from solo and small team roaming), even though some classes are more powerful than others.

I just wish this game gave you more of a feeling of progression. But hey, at least WvW is fun.

There really isn’t any way to play a power build Ranger and not be bait in WvW. In zergs power build Rangers are really good, especially now with the buff. Roaming wise, you won’t be much help. I play a Ranger a lot in WvW, no matter what build I go, power build Rangers will always be bait.

When I roam, I run a Regen/Condi build and whenever I see a power build Ranger it’s the first person I target.

Achievement burned out

If you’re burned out, stop doing it, do something else. I for one could care less about achievement points. It’s exactly like the people caring about getting their daily/pvp daily and monthly/pvp monthly done. I used to be like, “Oh crap, I HAVE to get this daily done or else I’ll be so behind.” At one point I forced myself to finish my dailies, it felt like a total chore. One day I didn’t get it, then the next, and the next day after that. After the third day not finishing my daily I felt a huge weight off of me. I didn’t really feel anything. Sure I don’t have my cat tonic yet, but other than that there’s really no feeling of being “behind.”

I stopped caring about the LS after the dragon bash, and I only did them to get the skin rewards and stuff, never for AP.

Seriously, if you’re getting burned out from doing LS, I suggest you just stop. And if you feel like you’ll be behind on AP because you’re not doing it, then just stop playing this game altogether.

A game is supposed to be fun, not a chore.

Roaming and small team fights we excel, that is if you’re running a Tanky/Regen/Condi build.
In zergs, which is relatively boring, we’re alright. We don’t give lots of CC and stuff, except for our elite skill Entangle, but we can last a while and pick people off.
I run a tanky regen condi build and I can beat most classes 1v1. Thieves are fun to fight as they just stealth with 10% HP then come back full health. Rinse and repeat until you either get ganked or the thief runs away for good. The only class I have trouble 1v1’ing is a tanky warrior.

Unfortunately, that build is the only good build we have. Running anything that’s not tank/regen/condi build will get you KO’d almost instantly. I see some videos of people running LB/GS but honestly, the people they’re fighting are pretty bad.

Choosing between Guardian, Engineer and Warrior

in Guardian

Posted by: Adrenaline.2854

Adrenaline.2854

I’ve played a Warrior up until 64, and honestly I was bored. I’ve tried Engineer, and I’m just not into it.

I’m currently playing my Guardian, and I’m having a kitten load of fun. The Guardian is one of the top, if not THE top class for solo leveling. Your skills and weapon sets(Mace+Focus/Shield) really make you survive anything this game throws at you. But that’s not to say the Guardian is only for tanking as you can switch up your skills/traits/weapon and go DPS spec. Comparing damage between Guardian and Warrior, I would say the Guardian has better sustained damage AND better survivability, while the Warrior has better burst damage.

BUT, the Guardian isn’t only for solo players. The Guardian is probably the most wanted class in group based gameplay. Dungeons, WvWvW, PvP, Events. Whatever it is for group events, you can always count on a Guardian to make things easier for the group. Guardians shine the most in group gameplay TBH.

I remember playing on my warrior in dungeons, and all I could do was DPS. Sure, I had banners. But the banners have such limited range that in a whole boss fight, I’d say 5% of the time was when my teammates actually had my banners’ buffs on them. It would be awesome if the banners had a bigger range, seeing as you can’t stand in one place for a long time in boss fights, especially those hard hitting ones. You know, unless you’re a Guardian with Aegis, then sure you can stand there and take the big hit

Overall, the Guardian is a really versatile class. But just get that the Guardian will almost always be a Support/Tank in group gameplay, especially in dungeons. While you can go DPS, other classes perform that role a little better. Unless you have another Guardian who’s doing the Support/Tanking, then go ahead with DPS and have fun.

@Nerelith. You can’t put 15 points at level 25, until you get to 40 to buy the second manual which allows you to put traits up to 20.

From levels 11-39 I went into Honor first, then Radiance, then Valor. When I hit 40 I went into 15 Radiance, 5 Virtues, 10 Honor. I kept going into Honor until level 50, then went into Valor until 59.

Now I’m at level 60, and with a fresh grandmaster’s manual. I went 15 Radiance, 5 Virtues, and then 30 into Honor. In the Honor trait line I grabbed Superior Aria, 2h Master, and Writ of the Merciful. In Radiance I grabbed Blind Exposure.

From 60-80, I plan on going 10 into Zeal for the 10% damage on burning foes, then 10 in Valor. Or I might end up going 20 into Valor o.O

Also, I’m a Greatsword/Staff user.

As opposed to the FoV we already have now?

First three, far. Last, close.

[PvE] GS users, what's your secondary weapon set?

This isn’t only for current GS(Greatsword) users, it also goes to players who’ve used the GS as their main weapon before. Even if you don’t use a GS, but would like you give your insight, feel free to do so

Currently I’m at level 56, and I’ve been using GS/Staff up until now. The GS is an awesome weapon, and I love the look of it on a heavily armored toon.

From my whole experience using the Staff as my secondary, I can’t help but notice that of all the time I’m actually using it, 95% of it is for the speed buff while moving from place to place. The other 5%, is used for tagging mobs in zerg events.

I’ve used Mace+Focus on dungeon runs before, but I’m not too sure if that would work in general world exploration. I mean yea, it still works, but PvE isn’t too demanding.

Currently my traits follow as:
Zeal – 0
Radiance – 15
Valor – 6
Honor – 20
Virtues – 5

Bottom line, I’m just looking for advice on what secondary weapon set would benefit a GS user the most. I can always tweak my build regarding the secondary weapon set.

Thanks in advance
