Adding onto Malt’s point, I think it’s better that the raids force importance on group-wide combination effects – AND PERHAPS A WAY TO EXTEND THE COMBO FIELD SYSTEM HINT HINT.

Really, though – the best balance IMO is when you can pick whether to go offensively built with minor buffs that you can apply to the group to mitigate damage, OR balance with dedicated healers.

@Mal: Mind you, necro might shine in situations where condi manipulation = good DPS & support. Otherwise, necros might be a util/support class, and they can be overshadowed by other classes doing their thing.

I’d ask what Catalyst version you’re on atm, because it’s probably some wonky voodoo happening on the driver’s backend, seeing as Win 7’s DX stuff’s pretty stable, especially if other games on your computer don’t behave that bad.

The crashes were before overclocking – it’s a symptom of the error. Pre 15.7 drivers the game worked perfectly without anything overlaid on top of it (full screen/windowed fullscreen without any other windows populating). Now, I have to keep MSI Afterburner’s detached GPU monitor to get the graphics of the game working – when it’s turned off the game’s renderer freezes up, and the graphics freezes – but sounds and other responses still work. One way of forcing the graphics to load once more was by resetting the display driver (my way involved setting Afterburner to reload display drivers when changing OC modes, and I toggled between overclocking with PowerPlay and without), but the crash happens when I force the reload while the game hung up on load screen.

@Farming Flats:
I did just that, but you can’t really force DirectX updates to install when you’re on Windows 10, or I haven’t found a way to force the installer to work. Manual hacking is something I’m not too keen on doing when it’s copy-pasting drivers, too, so I’m going to pass on that.

Anyone else having graphics lockout issues with Guild Wars 2 on Windows 10? The game freezes up graphically every now and then, especially when switching maps – this didn’t happen on the previous engineering driver for Windows 10.

Relevant details:
GPU: Sapphire R7 265 OC’d to 975 MHz core/1475MHz memory

It’s not like they’re going to make older players miss beta events by only giving out preorder bundles that have core+HoT. That would take at the very least a week, and next patch might highly likely not have a beta event within that time frame.

I would agree with you, if they had given any indication whatsoever that such a bundle was coming. The fact that you can buy the $50 version in-game seems to indicate it’s not.

And if you look at the other scope, it’s just one day after E3. Not even HOURS approaching to HALF OF A DAY after the E3 presentation. Have faith and WAIT for any expansion offer changes, instead of RUSHING TO BUYBUYBUY.

Even the in-game option can change with a patch or two. So if I were you, I’d WAIT, since you can give ANet three weeks time to change, revise, or add on their stance with respect to expansion offers.

Might be a wee bit unrelated, but if the dragons were really the planet’s check to it’s energy, would it be trading one problem (dragons) to another (overflowing, OVERFLOWING magic everywhere)? I’m getting thoughts of a large-scale event like the Thaumanova reactor, only happening in a lot of places.

The big problem with DDoS attacks would be that current methods of mitigating them are difficult, and requires both the participation of the game developer, and the ISPs. Even if the developers do everything to minimize DDoS effects, it’s on the ISP’s end to shutdown attack sources.

If I remember right, the spin should first track and hit five targets for the pull. Given defiance stacks, you should have at least four of them on boss so that he gets interrupted (when you get reflect wall) before he could start the dancing dagger attack.

Ah, I see. I thought that Tornado doesn’t have cast-time, so you can chain MS→Tornado and get full meteor hits. Seems like what it does is just boost the last few hits in MS to triple power.

FGS nerf could be adding targeting to it, or as DS said above, make it apply burn ticks instead of damage ticks.

So. Tried fractals again – did a 16 run, no biggie. Great OCE/SEA group, and swamp/molten/shaman.

On third fractal, someone in the group misclicked the exit. And a couple of us, mostly in instinct, pressed yes instead of reading (me included). All was booted back to the observatory. T.T

My only thankful thought was that it didn’t happen at a higher level, or it would be just too much.

Going to try do 29 now, hopefully without some bad things happening.

For engineers, I haven’t tested this yet, but timing the deployment of Rifle Turret -might- count as a block for the electric whirl. Not sure if bodyblocking works, but if it does, deploy-undeploy can block a shot.

I have a crap PC (i3-3220, GeForce 630, HDD), but on optimum settings Dry Top isn’t as taxing as say, WvW, given that I get 30 FPS vs 8 FPS on zergs. Even in sandstorms. Maybe there’s an architectural issue at hand? For those of you that get 8 FPS, what’s your system’s cards?

Sometimes, I do wonder for my sanity. PVT at least has some modicum of stat directed to speeding up an encounter. Only thing I can think of using -that- combination is if I’m trying to get from point A to point B constantly being pelted and can’t do jack kitten about it on a class that has <2 evades/invulns. Necromancers, perhaps?

One thing that really bugs me is the reflect change. Maybe a bit of a rant, but since they added reflect modifiers on the other bosses, making reflects deal small damage to them, could they just reward reflects by adding boss debuffs instead of just outright making them unblockable/unreflectable? It’s really counterintuitive to deviate a lot from the mechanics set on players.

Attacks reflected to bosses could turn into condition applications, for one. Or have the boss get CC’ed through defiant if projectiles are turned back. Or if they’re destroyed/absorbed, you could just make it apply buffs to players.

All this is really making my head go in circles. Guang, do you calculate DPS over time and actions that you may do, consistent with attack rotations, or are you averaging and using static chains in doing so? It’s just… Ugh, weird to see engi be useful like that when you have CD’s and all to manage. For example, in terms of mobility engies have, if I remember right, a single leap-gap closer, and using it puts you in 20s CD for a slot, as compared to other classes that have leaps and gap closers on their weapon slot, which they can probably swap out. Dungeons aren’t all combat – a large portion of it is running from point A to point B. Sure, you may have maxed DPS, but you’ll lose the time you gained when you’re traveling.

I would believe it if the rotations aren’t static, and have some leeway for dodging, blocking, reflecting, and stuff. But the claims are rather extraordinary, given the fact that any class with vuln-on-crit will become vuln stackers with FGS on, and even without most classes have a fast attack rate that can stack vuln still. Not to mention that static rotations with engineer don’t take into account the network delay between players – thus, your calcs may be good, but players with bad latency will just have their DPS drop off a lot.

Just my 2c. All this theorycrafting with pure numbers and full rotations without combat frame timings is rather confusing when you just output the numbers and not the actual data for times, number of attacks done to enable that DPS, restrictions when you attack (like some damage boosts drop off when endurance is full, or boons drop off, etc.), and any other secondary factors that might blow up your calculations.

Hardcore players are always a minority. Players that are willing to pay with IRL money are come from the casual crowd mostly, therefore it’s better to please them with easy content. Not to mention, it’s much easier and cheaper to drop a HP bag in the middle of LA with a timer, than spend weeks to make a map for a dungeon, encounters, mobs, voice over etc .

And i’m curious that how the dungeon drops affects such decisions btw. Dungeons basically creates gold out of thin air.

Maybe it’s best if they made dungeons drop more mats instead of pure gold. Something that gives you a farm at the end of the dungeon is great, too.

again with the really hurtful titles. You know calling someone’s entire fightingstyle “useless” kind of clashes with your attempts to be a gentlemen.
and curtoky…no one cares about what the staff is by direct comparison, focus on the staff alone. there are plenty of reasons to go staff, would you write a 20 minute freewrite in alphabetic order? You don’t get to call an entire weapon ‘useless’ no weapon is useless from what I have seen, its just more specialized. As much as we bash Anet, they got a lot of stuff right, balancing is one of them. It’s not perfect but then what is?)

The problem here is that they are implying it is useless because the efficiency for it is way, way too far as compared to other weapon-set combinations. Unless you’re camping a weapon (be it GS/hammer) and just using it at start of fight, it’s probably okay. Probably, given that a ten second swap to staff will significantly lower your damage output on targets, and the might you have acquired lasts only a few seconds for your DPS kit.

Sure, it’s a tool, but some playstyles will always be better in a specific game-modes. Don’t be surprised if in WvW, staffing is okay but in PvE it isn’t. This is the dungeon forum too, so don’t be surprised if staffing is called bad since as a solution in PvE it is.

We just cleared a shard for the temple. It should be the main shard right now, if the megaserver prioritizes servers with temples completed. Also, if a shard is bugged, try to overflow the map until you get a new spawn, and move people there. Soon the shard might eventually be removed.

If you need a class to PuG and have most utilities, I suggest rolling engineer. Not much DPS, but it can shoehorn in for a thief/mes/ele.

Actually, that’s a good answer, since action games do force you to learn their mechanics. The problem here is that the players have a disconnect between what to expect in dungeons and in open world, given that they don’t encounter mobs that have the same difficulty in the dungeons, OR have scaling difficulty towards the dungeons. Not to mention that the idea of karma training makes it difficult for players to know what to do.

Personally? I wish they released skill data and started on making official starter guide accessible in-game. The barrier of entry to most new players with not much prior MMO, and action MMO at that, makes this ‘toxicity’ you see even worse.
