Hoping next weekend will be better(should be with the new specs).

Guardian monopoly on AoE stability

in WvW

Posted by: Afyael.1740

Afyael.1740

Do you really think that those small changes to other profession’s stability skills would make guardian obsolete? Or am I just misreading you?

I think even with these changes the wvw guilds and pug groups would still have to rely on guardian as their main stability bringer, but hopefully some would get replaced by engineers and mesmers too.

What does the guardian class offer besides instant AoE stability that other classes don’t already do better?

Might stacking?
Heals on a front line that actually does damage?
AoE Immob with hammer?
AoE swiftness spam?

Giving aoe stab to some other classes wouldn’t suddenly make the Guardian completely redundant. It may be one of their best features but it’s still just one of many. People still brought plenty of guards back when stab stacks evaporated instantly every .05 seconds in a zerg fight.

You could give AoE stab to the useless ‘non-astral’ form of the Druid elite sigil and it’s not like Rangers would suddenly replace guards in a team comp though Ranger might actually be worth a kitten in a zerg for the first time since ever.

Wow, just no. Stability is the only thing Guardians have. Anet should fix our class and then we’ll be more than happy for other classes to get extra sources of stability. We’re the worst class in PvP and completely ignored for raids so WvW is all we have left.

HoT snipers need nerf

Snipers are fine, the problem is STALKERS.

Champion and even elite stalkers will absolutely decimate groups if not immediately dealt with.

Unplayable Solo

Afyael.1740

The general difficulty is fine, I like it. Having champions on every hero challenge is just ridiculously irritating however. Some of them are really high up/far down or gated by masteries, it’s near impossible to get others to join you for the hard to reach ones.

Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]

Afyael.1740

Whilst I dislike the fact that we have to get all the challenges in HoT to fully unlock the class. What I really can’t live with is the fact that every challenge has a champion in it. Seriously? Even if I’ve got the mastery and know where it is I can’t get it because there’s a stupid champion with a 5 minute timer making it almost impossible to solo.

It is just so rage inducing, please either remove the reset timers(I can solo a fair amount of them) or downgrade them to elites. Really that’s the absolute minimum that Anet should do considering that it will be near impossible to get people to help on skill points in a months time.

Is a group required for player progression?

Afyael.1740

I think that event difficulty scaling is abit off.

ANet has to fix that, hopefully never nerf the mobs (unless it’s needed due to making it unplayable)

IT’S NOT EVENT SCALING. Hero challenges are the same every time.

Some idiot developer thought that putting a champion+2 on a really out of the way hero point was a good idea.

I’m okay with getting hero points to unlock the elite specialization but requiring 4-5 people (most of them have timers) to complete a hero challenge is ridiculous. Especially when it requires careful gliding/jumping to even get to the point in question (you’ll be lucky if you can find one person there).

Some of them are okay… but most of them are deliberately made insanely difficult to stop us unlocking the specialization.

Guardian Viability in light of Druid Reveal

in Guardian

Afyael.1740

In GW1 there were two kinds of monks, heal monks and protection monks. In GW2 with Aegis, protection, regeneration and other forms of active mitigation we have always been considered the Prot monks of the game. Would I like to have gotten the druid spec for Guardian? For sure. However we are still viable.

Anyone with MMO experience will tell you that just healing is a bad idea, bars go up and down quicker and there is less margin for error. A mixture of protection and healing is the best. The Druid spec reveal doesn’t affect our viability, they are competing with Elementalists while our competition is the Revenant.

If you just want to level up you could just do EoTM… I wouldn’t recommend it for newer players because you don’t see the world but you can do 30/40 levels a day on the weekend(or during the week if you don’t have a job i guess…)

Allowing them to be sold to merchants or salvaged for something would be a good idea but for now its best just to delete them. I keep 4 stacks of each material(1k total) – a decent amount if I want to make something on impulse.

GW 2 for kids

Afyael.1740

GW2 is fine for kids. I would recommend keeping them out of dungeons/fractals and sPvP as a precaution.

Usually its fine but the people there take things more seriously and can make for unpleasant experiences from time to time.

WvW is pretty laid back unless you’re in a t1/t2 server however some of the chat that occurs in there may be a little inappropriate for children(in my experience at least).

Afyael.1740

I don’t see this happening, whether I like the idea or not. I can’t see Anet spending time and energy on games outside the open world, where they want to see people logging in. The last thing Anet wants to do is make it so that people can play the game out of the world.

If enough people are willing to pay to pay 5 bucks to use this app Anet would drop everything they’re doing and jump right on board.

Which just about sums up the state of the game and the direction its been moving since release.

Do you really like the daily as it is ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Afyael.1740

Afyael.1740

If doing the daily for you is a grind then I don’t think you really like the game that much. Yes the price may be steep, but if you really consider just playing the game then hunt for the last few things left before the daily resets a grind. Why do you even play? The daily is the same as it’s allways been pretty much, I even complete my daily some times now withouth even looking at it, unless it’s the crafting or Laurel part. And those two takes 1 minute to complete both.

It’s just annoying when you’re busy with stuff and sometimes you just can’t log in. I log in whenever I can and enjoy playing but sometimes I’m just so overloaded with work that I preferred the old system where I would miss a few dailies and all I miss out on are karma jugs. Now I feel forced to log in every day and rush the daily just so that I’m not being left behind. I’m all for rewarding players that are dedicated and play more than me with minor rewards but I wish they gave us other ways to get the ascended necklaces.

The Zaishen system in GW1 had it right, you could buy zkeys with coins (essentially laurels) you got from dailies but you could also buy them with balthazar faction/tourney reward points.

This Game Is So Amazing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Afyael.1740

Afyael.1740

The game should be awesome, there are just a few issues:

1. DR, Remove this crap now. It hurts the customer and spoils our (my) enjoyment.

2. Skills and traits, either introduce more skills or fix the broken ones that prevent people from enjoying classes. Traits on almost every class need to be fixed too, I’m looking at the ranger and necromancer especially here but Guardian and Engineer traits need some reworking.

3. Mob AI, mobs shouldn’t just generically attack players, they should have a whole set of skills and use them a lot. Make fighting enemies much more like fighting another player, similar to how it was in GW1.

If they did that I would be completely fine with the game (I would say get rid of ascended gear but that’s never going to happen).

Why does ascended armor need better stats?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Afyael.1740

Afyael.1740

Playing higher level fractals without the stat increase (progression) would not be fun or satisfying. If you can’t see why this is a big reason, I’m not sure why you want to talk about game mechanics at all.

Why would it not be fun or satisfying? You keep going to challenge yourself and see how far you can get with your SKILL not gear. I want to say you’re playing the wrong game but after Nov 15th I think that no longer applies.

Been gone for too long -profession balance?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Afyael.1740

Afyael.1740

Hahaha not balanced at all. Compare a mesmer or thief to ranger/engineer. Both in terms of pvp or just finding a dungeon group. It almost feels like Izzy realized in GW1 that he couldn’t balance classes no matter what he did so he might as well not bother making changes.

I’ve played an engineer in dungeons and occasionally a ranger as well. There are tons of ways, certainly in the engineers case, to be massively useful in a dungeon setting. Sure you have to learn the profession and it has a higher skill ceiling that a lot of other professions. Doesn’t mean it’s not useful.

I’m not saying that they can’t be useful, I like playing every class. But you need to work far harder to make it work for several classes and although some people enjoy that, it’s hard to get groups sometimes. Also in PvP you can’t rely on the other person being bad to win.

Where Chickens Drop Better Loot Than Dragons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Afyael.1740

Afyael.1740

Are you secretly a front for Bojangles? For that greasy KFC? And I must write that, this is not a situation that can be solved with a NERF.

Oh great, job. Now they’re going to nerf chickens! The one good loot drop in this game and you have to get it nerfed? Thanks. Don’t worry you’ll be headed back to those worthless chests soon since ANet couldn’t possibly bare the thought of someone making more than 1 gold per hour.

I don’t see any reason why an event champ shouldn’t drop a rare or several greens every time, plus coin. On a typical “swarm” event I’ll get 5-10 blues and 2-3 greens, maybe a rare. A bunch of coin, maybe some bags, some coin, a bunch of XP, some whites for salvage, etc. On a champ I’ll get some coin and a guaranteed blue. The swarm event is just as fast, and less dangerous.

Don’t worry, now that it’s been pointed out to them, ANet will be nerfing all swarm event drop rates. And the reason is they don’t want you making that kind of money should be pretty obvious; two words – gem store.

You people are clueless. Now they are gonna nerf the chickens!

If they NERF loot drops from mobs NO ONE will bother going to Lost Shore, and perhaps Orr itself, at all because it’s currently a buggy mess with little incentive. Champions drop NO loot and the temples won’t start. It’s really a situation where they would have to nerf dungeons and fractals first to move people back into the open world events or give up on them. Then, they will have taken so much away that you wonder if anyone will want to do ANYTHING.

And what makes you think that will stop them? These are the guys that nerf the engineer almost every patch. These are the guys that think spending 30 silver on a teleport is fair. These are the guys that think you should fight a twelve million HP boss for 15 minutes for 2 level 79 blues and a handful of whites.

Are you that nieve to think ANET dont already know where specific loot is being hoarded from… maybe you haven’t seen their own employees playing the game in the same re-spawn areas.
There are other reasons why ANET wants to create hive points in game…. at least if they do engage the nerfbat on such things it might make the game feel more balanced in its loot spread… heck it might even dissuade many of the endless lines of BOTS from camping Map areas.
I would much prefer a fun engaging MMO with challenges, quests, puzzles and exploration that rewards based on effort not based on zoning in at the end of a mass event to tag the dragon, then stand their mindlessly spamming 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 and waiting till its dead for a friendly res so you can loot the chest.

I don’t know about you but I think its more fun doing events and dungeons for cool drops and skins instead of getting a ton of vendor stuff/crafting materials that you repeatedly grind (YES!!!!! GRIND!) to throw in the mystic toilet for gear.

I hate crafting and gathering materials, I think it should be a viable way to get gear but you should also get rewarded decently for killing tough enemies. As it is you can get to lvl 80 and get the best items without ever leaving LA or the TP. The most efficient way to get the best items is from sitting in LA and farming the TP all day.

Is it really hard to add dueling?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Afyael.1740

Afyael.1740

Dueling will not be in the game. Anet COULD put it in if they want to. However they are making this game how they believe it should be made and don’t care what you think even though it’s logical/beneficial for the game. I’ve been following Anet since the release of GW1 and whilst they make good games they are also a notoriously stubborn bunch.

Edit: They could add in an option to automatically reject any duel requests but of course Anet doesn’t believe dueling should be in the game…

Do you have a source for this? Because I heard it was on their to do list. Not their immediate list, but eventually.

I wouldn’t take this completely as fact but I do remember reading in several instances where they’ve stated dueling isn’t something they think fits in the game. Maybe I’m completely mistaken though, this is just a basic quote saying that it won’t be in sPvP/WvWvW: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/4661-interview-new-info-jeuxonline/#entry204499

I can say with 100% certainty that they have not put dueling on any ‘to do’ list unfortunately. Several Anet members have said that if there is enough demand for it, they MAY add it but they’ve ignored all the people asking for it thus far. I’m sure that they would add it if half the playerbase left because it was missing but you could say that about practically anything.

Flame and Frost: The Gathering Storm

First-time-MMO-players EVERYWHERE in this thread.
The MMO with quick and steady releases of content is a MYTH.
You need TIME to make the new content, even if it is already planned out.
It’s been that same since the dawn of MMOs.
A MMO player with a few games behind them knows this.
So please stop saying that there exist a game that had 24/7 updates, always new and engaging pvp/pve, never any balance problems, you never ran out of things to do, etc, etc.
It’s embarassing and shows a big lack of experience with MMOs and games in general.

That’s why Anet needs to focus on the areas of the game that are important and work on those rather than creating new stuff like southsun cove that nobody (really) cares about.

Instead of doing all that stuff with the Karka, why didn’t they use that time to create a pvp deathmatch mode? They don’t even to create new assets, they could use the arena in Black Citadel. 4v4 or 5v5 games with the ability to queue up solo or as a team, give gold/rewards for winning 10 in a row, voila your sPvP players are happy for a few months.

For World v World they can up the rewards (really just change some numbers) to make it more rewarding for players and make badges go straight into your inventory (or a less annoying system than the current one). To be fair they are working on a better reward system now but it could have been done much earlier if they weren’t wasting their time on other things.

For PvE they need to seriously increase the value of drops around the world, even in lower areas – at this point in ascended/exotic gear my guardian runs around orr in a greatsword solo’ing champions and killing regular mobs in 4/5 seconds, it’s hardly more challenging than lower level content, it’s just annoying to be stuck in the same area grinding the same mobs/events.

They have done a lot of things since release (their skill balance team aside), I imagine implementing fractals was a ton of work. The problem is for the most part they are making baffling design decisions that players don’t really want. The Halloween event I enjoyed personally (box rng aside) but since then I’ve been really disappointed in the design direction they have gone, it lacks any creativity or sense. Hopefully they stop funneling us into instances and monotonous gear grinds and instead focus on improving the core game.

P.S. I wish I could be part of the skill balance team, it seems they are paid to make minor changes to a handful of skills every couple of months (most of which is buggy, not well thought out or even implemented). Must be nice having to work 5 hours a week.

It’s a free country yes but these forums are owned by Anet. It’s like someone acting really obnoxious at a party, the owner can have you thrown out.

p.s. I disagree with your opinion, I think the game should be skill based and not about who plays the most.

I would rather not have any new content and instead get some proper skill balancing. They have been absolutely awful, ignoring important issues and ‘fixing’ stuff that worked fine, they really don’t have a clue.

Afyael.1740

When they announced that they would have fewer skills to improve balance I was on board with it, PvP in GW1 was great but there were ‘cookie-cutter’ builds that would get run all the time and quite often were irritating/boring to play against.

Unfortunately the balance in this game is really bad too, classes such as the engineer, ranger and necromancer have been begging for months for some buffs and over the last 3 months they haven’t gotten squat. It really is quite pathetic, instead of throwing in all this new pve content that is shallow and poorly done, I would rather they would focus on making the combat more fun and immersive. Why they haven’t touched bunkers for months is absolutely ridiculous.

If they were going to balance the game like this I would have definitely preferred the GW1 skill system. Everything was much more unpredictable and interesting, instead of memorizing the same bar and using it more efficiently you would learn several builds and counters. There would be occasional build wars when your build was hard countered but most of the time the winner would be the players/team that adapted their strategy quickest to what the enemy was doing.

That was just PvP, in GW1 PvE the enemies used the same skills as players, kited out of AoE and were just much, much smarter. Once heroes came out the game became a cakewalk but early in the days of prophecies there were challenging areas/missions (Thirsty river, Thunderhead Keep, Abbadon’s mouth etc). I have never failed a personal story, ever. The only times I had to restart a mission were in the first month whenever I encountered a glitch.

This game definitely needs more variety (either by adding more skills, changing existing skills to be more interesting/varied or redoing traits to actually change your playstyle rather than just create bigger numbers). Not all of this post is specifically on topic but I’ve just been so frustrated by the way Anet have (mis)managed the game from release, this could have been an absolutely amazing game that changed the mmorpg genre but as it is, it’s a merely above average game with a handful of nice features that we may see in future mmo’s.

I’m honestly not that bothered about WHEN the patch is released, I would just like to see the notes so that I know whether I can start playing on my ranger and engineer again. Usually they release the notes BEFORE the patch?

Admittedly I missed the december patch but for the fractals and halloween patches I seem to remember getting patch specifics prior to release. It’s bugging me.
