Curious what you guys think. Right now the active says:

“Refill endurance and cure a condition for each nearby ally”

when it should say something more like:

“Refill endurance and cure a condition on each nearby ally” (up to 4 allies)

The question I pose is this: would you like this skill’s active to work as stated and remove X conditions (1 to 5) on you based on how many allies are near you or keep it as is and remove a single condition on you and each nearby ally?

Was actually impressed with the changes overall. My concern is having acro with really long cooldowns on some traits but hopefully it overall allows us to stay in fights for a bit longer.

Would have liked a slight pistol auto attack increase and prepareness baseline but we’ll see how things pan out.

Oh and Grouch posted changes to runes/sigils/amulets: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/Upcoming-Changes-to-PvP-Runes-Sigils-Amulets/first

Durability & Mercy runes are gone
Soldier’s, Settler’s, Celestial, & Sentinel amulets are gone as well
New amulets detailed in the post seem to have a blend of damage and defensive stats

Was curious since dual wielding weapons determines the 3rd skill. I tried D/P, P/D and just Dagger with my Incinerator. From trying these combos out I believe all thief #3 skill animations when dual wielding weapons ties with the main hand for special effects (legendary-wise) as it does for all main hand weapons for other professions. Don’t think it’ll change anytime soon.

You don’t always get 1 point per win in the league, you can get more if you beat a team that has a higher rating. You’ve most likely got 14 points because one of your wins awarded 2 points.

All 3 Daredevil dodge animations (Lotus/Dash/Bound) are the regular thief dodge animation in some areas. Each dodge’s effect still works properly. The Lotus/Dash/Bound dodges works properly in said areas if you slot to a different dodge; swapping back to your previous Daredevil dodge makes the animation work. I tested this on a human Daredevil.

Areas where this bug occurs:

Age.9320

Daredevil feels way better than last BWE3. Here’s my take after testing the changes (any significant changes can wait till after HoT launch if necessary):

Staff

Skill 1 – Feels better; maybe a tiny increase in damage and it should be fine
Skill 2 – Feels waaaay better to use, thank you for this
Skill 3 – I feel like the animation needs to be faster if you’re trying to telegraph evades (since you strike then evade)
Skill 4 – The cast time is way better but it needs a smoke field or a field of some sort; this would really amp the staff up in the utility department which is what the staff is currently lacking
Skill 5 – feels better but think the cast time needs to be shaved down a bit more and it really needs an evade. Also the distance traveled feels shorter than stated (600), maybe bump it up a bit.

Overall, outside PvE, I feel lost with staff since other options feel better to use. The damage is there, but the effective utility is lacking.

Physical Skills

Channeled Vigor – Can’t really say since the 3/4 channel change isn’t in. I think it’ll be great and can compete with Withdraw when it’s finally in.

Bandit’s Defense – still good even with the increased cooldown but the duration needs a slight increase and the cast time needs to be faster. I telegraphed a jungle tendril knocking me back numerous times and I pop this skill right away when I did. Every single time it doesn’t go off in time. Also, this skill really needs a flip over for the kick followup; the kick needs to be optional. You can get caught out and die being locked in the kick animation like that.

Distracting Daggers – equip time & velocity is awesome but I still won’t use it due to the internal cooldown for the next dagger use. I feel there shouldn’t be a cooldown once I equipped the daggers.

Fist Flurry – I like the idea of this skill rewarding you for landing all the hits for the flip over but it’s too situational for decent reliable use imo

Impairing Daggers – Had no problem with it in BWE2, no problem with it now.

Impact Strike – No problem with it but I do think that if you land the damage on an enemy you should be able to continue the chain (read somewhere here that stability stopped the chain so that might be a bug). Also hoping that there can be a trait or something that gives us at least 2 stacks of stability when starting the combo.

Traits

Evasive Empowerment – I thought it was just me that thought 2s on this was short. I guess not. 1 or 2 more additional seconds would really help to followup quick disengage dodges.

Escapist’s Absolution – I’ve tried it and it’s a decent trait for dealing with conditions. But I think everyone here who’s brought up this trait up pretty much says the same thing: it needs to be added to or swapped with a minor; and I agree. I wouldn’t stress this if Thieves had another reliable way to condition cleanse via traits. In fact, I haven’t even tried the other master traits this BWE because I need EA to live. The only good one is Shadow’s Embrace in SA and a lot of people won’t be taking SA due to dodging more than stealthing. A majority of thieves, especially in PvP and doubly so for this meta, will take EA every time; we pretty much have to. With EA being a minor we can actually have options in the Master tier to choose from.

Bounding Dodger – I think this was getting a fix to be a leap if I recall? Also the dodge distance feels a little short (kind of the same situation with Vault).

Unhindered Combatant – Fantastic, very good with P/P

Lotus Training – maybe due to the animation but I felt the dodge distance was a little short

So to cover OP’s points of discussion:

  • Practicality of skills. Is a certain skill reliable? Does it do enough damage or perform it’s function well? How’s the cast time?

Bandit’s Defense is very good but not reliable if trying to block in melee and not wanting the kick effect. Distracting Daggers is good but isn’t reliable due to the internal cooldowns. Dust Strike doesn’t feel reliable to use at all in a skill rotation. Impact Strike can be tricky to use and isn’t useful (rather than reliable) in PvE currently.

  • Trait synergy and effectiveness. Do traits work well with each other and with traits from other lines? Do they perform well in practice, not just on paper? Do they define builds well?

Wasn’t noticing a significant difference with DD and Acro together. DA, CS and Trickery are good with DD. I read somewhere that Improv from DA line wasn’t working with Physical Skills though (possible bug?).

  • Does daredevil feel unique from thief (given that acro has changed, please avoid comparing to pre June thief)? Can you create fun and useful builds with the tools it provides?

Not really imo. It feels like a new Acro line with a few more perks if anything.

  • How does thief (not daredevil) fare against daredevil and other classes introduced in HoT. Keep in mind, all elites and even base specs have received significant changes since the last BWE. Please give feedback based on this weekend and not past experiences.

If we’re talking straight up 1v1 then Thief can fare against DD; I honestly think it can be a skill matchup. Versus everything else, if you don’t have the element of surprise you stand a chance but won’t stand a great chance especially since there’s more reveal skills to worry about. Even with the element of surprise, you’ll have a rough time as a Thief against most of the elite specs. You’ll have to disengage/reengage quite a bit.

  • State one thing you really like about daredevil.

Dash dodge. I think it really opens up the possibility of new P/P builds

  • State one thing you dislike/want changed about daredevil.

Kind of sad to say it but I dislike the new dodges locked behind GMs. I’ve thought a lot about it over the weeks and I think it’s more beneficial in order to give us more sustain like damage mitigation GMs to help us compete with the other elite specs. Can make us choose a dodge via an F3 option and stick with it till we’re out of combat or out of a PvP match. I think Dash would be a little strong in this regard so maybe make the swiftness part a trait.

BWE 3 Daredevil Specialization Changes

Thanks for the update Karl, excited to try out Channeled Vigor again. Do keep us posted!

#1: 3 grandmaster worthy traits (the best in their respective fields) being made available without being traits…
#2: to be swapped between on demand, which is much better than any individual trait was due to the loss of exclusivity..
#3: alongside of 3 new grandmaster worthy traits of which to pick from to further augment the class…

I personally don’t want #2 at all. I would like an F3 slot for the sole purpose of slotting a dodge. I can pick a dodge (much like how Revenants pick a legend) and stick with it. I can swap dodges (like how Revenants pick a legend) when I’m out of combat and I’m locked in a choice for the duration of a PvP match. I feel that would be a sufficient solution.

This provides the same functionality we have now but this change would free up the GMs for some cool things or offer options. For example, I’ve suggested (condition) damage mitigation and stability when starting the Impact Strike combo.

Sidenote: For the forseeable future I feel forced to take Escapist’s Absolution. I’d honestly rather run Impacting Disruption. Maybe the Channeled Vigor changes will allow me to do so.

People are for sure overreacting.
The sky isn´t falling.
The concept of daredevil is really nice.
Don´t bash on Karl constantly.

There are just a few things that need to be done to make the daredevil work perfectly fine.

  • Make the new dodges selectable stances. If they are swappable in combat than let them have a cost for swapping. 50 endurance or whatever. If the developers think thats to powerful just make them swapable out of combat only.
  • Smoothen the new dodges. I don´t need super shiny animations. They should just work right in the first place. Cool animations would be nice but not necessary.
  • Put a darkfield on staff 4 so we can use our whirl, blast and leap finishers. Will change a lot. Staff is missing a combo field.
  • Put new grandmaster traits into the daredevil spec.
  • Combine the condition removal on a successful dodge into one of the minor traits.

Tada …. all good again.

Thank you Karl for communicating with us that much.

Best regards!

Shino

Pretty much summed up my thoughts. The points made here is all that’s left, in my opinion, to make DD work in a decent fashion. I like the Revenant styled dodge select someone here made. Making the dodges selectable out of combat would work out just fine in my opinion. People I know who don’t even play thief even say that selectable dodges in the Function bar would be better.

At this point, I can’t think of a better way of adding a more reliable condition cleanse on DD besides “on dodge” instead of “successful dodge” for Escapist’s Absolution which would be nice (give it a cooldown?). However, making it part of a minor would be an acceptable solution and would let us, most importantly, explore more options in the Master tier. If a majority of people feel that they have to take a trait to literally survive condition damage, then it really should be core somewhere.

All this would free up a master trait and 3 GMs. I think we need the 3 GMs given the current options in traits don’t really add much flavor. I would add maybe a damage mitigation trait (toughness via % of power or protection on dodge?) and a trait that gives us some stability when using Impact Strike.

(staff/dodge) animations can come in a bit later if it’s really too hard to get them done in time for HoT release.

This really bugs me but the staff animations when holding the weapon and running aren’t staff-wielding like. This goes for Staff Revenant as well. It’s not like a hammer (which is the current animation). The hands should be at the base of the weapon. Others have stated about combat strikes are off in some instances so I won’t go into that.

I don’t understand what you mean by this? Do you mean they should be holding the staff as if it were a greatsword? That is a stupid way to hold a staff. A melee staff should be held at the 1/3 and 2/3 positions, for maximum control. If you’re going to hold it from one end then you might as well put a weight or a blade on the other to maximize damage. Melee staff skills should only be holding it at the base for occasional longer range strikes.

This would be the pose I’d want for running though, but the resting pose should be more in front of you. http://www.ambrakarate.com/images/boStaff.jpg

I’m in the majority agreement with Dust Strike being a circle as it’s more beneficial than a line; it can act like a larger Black Powder. In fights, I don’t consider using it as it doesn’t feel useful in my rotation.

I prefer it as a ranged attack, it lets you reduce the threat of enemies that are outside of melee range. I would not want to see it become a PBAoE, we already have that in pistol.

Noooooooooooooooooooo not like a greatsword at all, basically exactly like you stated; maybe I should have clarified. I was thinking along the lines of this: http://www.martialartsarticlesonline.com/images/bo.jpg . That picture you linked is exactly what I’d like for a running animation.

For Dust Strike I guess it comes down to personal preference but for me I probably won’t use it as much if it stays as is.

Step in the right direction. I do still have a few concerns.

Edit to clarify staff holding animation: Ohoni was confused by my point so I add a picture for reference: http://www.martialartsarticlesonline.com/images/bo.jpg

All I have to say is THANK YOU for the Weakening Charge change. It was very annoying not being able to get back into combat with it after using it.

I’d go with giving Vault an evade and leave the cost to 6 initiative. I’d rather have the evade.

I’m in the majority agreement with Dust Strike being a circle as it’s more beneficial than a line; it can act like a larger Black Powder. In fights, I don’t consider using it as it doesn’t feel useful in my rotation.

Distracting Daggers I feel will still be a non-pickup with it’s cooldown. Unless the “Reduced equip cast time to 1/2 second” refers to just equipping them then I can freely use the 3 daggers without worrying about an internal cooldown to use each dagger. If so, then I’d consider it.

I still have a big concern with condi cleanse. Can Escapist’s Absolution remove damaging conditions at the very least? Heck, can it be like Fleet of Foot and remove at least one condition on dodging? I think this condi meta warrants some consideration for it. Daredevil imo has enough to remove immobilizing conditions. Stealth for Thief is currently the best way to remove conditions (outside Shadowstep) but with Daredevil, the focus is on dodging. And dying almost instantly to 9 random stacks of burning gets real old real fast. I feel like, if anyone, only the high tier players that can dodge successfully almost every time will be the only beneficiaries of this trait.

Age.9320

So here’s what I’m seeing thusfar:

People like the seemingly intended synergy with existing builds.

People are still questioning why acrobatics is a generally underpowered trait line without DD.

People feel that the staff and dodges don’t feel as fluid and nimble as core specs and dodges. (Anet has stated dodges are being addressed. No word of Staff)

People feel distracting daggers is borderline useless in its current implementation.

People like fist flurry, but feel the payoff isn’t worth the difficulty to land the combo.

People like bandit’s defense, but would like to be able to interrupt it.

Almost nobody has a problem with impairing daggers. People find it useful and valuable.

People feel impact strike has too short a duration between strikes to be user friendly as a chain. People feel like Impact Strike is completely worthless in PvE. People like the insta-finish special feature.

People feel that overall the artistic polish on the spec is not up to par, with a lot of obviously re-used or poorly implemented animations, and a general lack of QA.

There is some contention about utilizing GM traits as the dodge selection mechanism. Some people think it’s fine, Others think it deprives DD of build choices.

There is some contention about the placement of traits.

That about sum it up this far?

I did a blog post for my Daredevil feedback: https://agegaming.wordpress.com/2015/09/09/heart-of-thorns-beta-weekend-event-2-thoughts-the-daredevil/

From glancing at people’s comments it seems my post pretty much mirrors the above quote if it’s accurately summing up the majority of people’s sentiments on Daredevil.

Ordered from most to least important for me:

1) How will Miyani be selling her skill point related products when Specializations come in? (Depending on how previous sentence is answered) Will the base legendary receipes be affected in any way?

2) Does the change from the Trait System to Specializations offer significant balance improvements to sPvP?

3) I noticed Racial skills weren’t included in the elementalist image for the Profession Reward Track. Will racial skills get their own track eventually or do we get those skills by default?

4) Is this new crafting material account bound and what will it mainly serve for? Receipes for the new legendaries? New ascended armor/weapons? (No more excess Bloodstone-like mats please)

5) Are Hero Challenges mainly skill point challenges & channel points found in Tyria but under a different name for clarity, or something more?

Mostly everything I wanted to say I think got covered but here’s my input:

Note: Everything was on max settings (PC specs at the bottom)

Bouncing Mushrooms didn’t work, even after leveling the mastery

WvW panel was active (might want to disable that when you’ve disabled Guild and sPvP panels as well).

Revenant was pretty cool, wish I could have toyed around with the traits because I saw the potential for a decent torment build. I honestly preferred the hammer over mace/axe even though the latter provides more conditions. Probably because the hammer provides more AoE.

Wyvern fights were great. Decals really gave off the fire/lava effect and I didn’t lag at all. Best part is that you could melee if you positioned correctly.

For the Defiance bar, I honestly thought the metal bar would tick down to nothing and when it did, that’s when we apply the CC before the Wyvern started to fly off. Of course I figured out that when the bar disappeared completely and the teal bar appeared is when you apply CC as fast as possible.

For the Mastery System, the UI isn’t intuitive enough. I was really confused at first on how it worked. I think I read somewhere above that the WvW progression UI would be a good fit. I agree but maybe have a progression bar below each mastery line to know how far you’ve progressed into one of the options in the line; or maybe show it only for the selected mastery line. Also, if kept as is (popping up from XP bar), I’d prefer if it was slimmed down a bit horizontally; I felt my vision was obscured not being able to see on the bottom sides.

For more clarity of the mastery options in a line: You can dull out the options that aren’t unlocked, color in the options you have and color in but also border line (and maybe increase the icon size a bit) the option you’re working on.

Another thing that had me curious is the number of Mastery points needed to progress. For example, if I pour all my points into the glider and legendary lines but I need something in the 2nd part of the Mushroom line to continue the story, I hoping there’s enough ways to get the points needed. Not too worried about this but just something that popped into my head.

Other than that, I found this HoT build to be pretty solid tech-wise.

I've redesigned the UI & the official website

TL;DR Great job and I highly agree with the UIs presented

Well I know who to hire if I need UI work done! Here are my thoughts in a nutshell, but I feel kinda dumb commenting on it because this guy has 9+ years of experience of doing this for a living and I only have a fraction.

Character panel I like because everything is there in one panel therefore is more accessible which is the main problem now. I especially like the condensed layout for armor/weapons which leaves more room to work with. I’m on the fence with the guild swapping functionality being here and not in the guild panel.

I’m not a guild leader or officer so I can’t say much about the UI of the guild panel. However, I do like the idea of letting guild members know what you’re up to in case you’re early or others come on later. It seems optional too with the “Members looking for…” so you can just be “online”. I’d like to see what the other guild panel tabs would look like in his eyes.

Dat LFG tool. Visuals of dungeons/content help with faster navigation. Not so sure about adding the “Normal/Buy Dungeon path” as options. I didn’t see an Advertise Party UI but I assume it’s relatively the same. I’d love to see if that would be integrated into the UI or if it’s still a popup.

Story Journal I like. Again, pictures helps with navigation. The only problem I see is you would definitely need a scrolling option as more chapters are put in. A scrolling option wouldn’t be too bad since Chapters are added pretty much on a yearly basis. Episode listing is pretty nice; more of a visual makeover. Video is a nice touch too if people want to see trailers. Sidenote for ANet: I would like the Quit Episode to actually quit the episode and not leave the episode markers up (QQ)

Best of all is that addition of the Lore Journal (drool) would spent so much time reading that AND it helps entice players to learn some back story if they’re the type to click through story dialogue.

The website resign is visually appealing to anyone visiting the site. I do agree with the point about sliders. At first I was a bit concerned about how news was shown (2nd site page section) but it makes sense as he separated the in-game changes (left) from events (right). The new user page sections are REALLY good as it showcases that artistic style of GW2 as well as give information to entice players and the buy now showcase for the final touch.

Whispers medium coat dye issues

I think it was intended to bring the armor in line with the color scheme the Whisper NPCs have. I seriously thought it wouldn’t bug me as much but I had to switch to my other armor set.

Can check the image below to view the color scheme of the Whispers NPCs, I know for sure Riel (human in the middle) has the color scheme I have now: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/f/f7/Welcome_to_the_order_of_whispers.jpg

Bump. Please make the red sections of the armor able to be dyed.

I bought the Whisper armor in the first place because I like the initial color scheme. Now it looks really bad now with the red. It was really frustrating to see the armor I bought getting changed like that and not being able to change it back.

Leave WvW Button

I was seriously surprised that a “Leave WvW” button was not in with the WvW window revamp. I mean, the PvP window has this option. Would be really nice to not go to the Heart of the Mists then Leave the Mists just to get back to where I was in PvE.

Can you add to your list “Leave WvW” button in the WvW window. Honestly, they revamp the entire thing and it looks nice but no “Leave WvW” button still…

I’ve been having the same problem recently. People that I can see in my party are highlighted as such (blue text, blue dot on map). But other in the party don’t appear as such.

Lower Risen Abomination's Frenzy Cap

I was just doing personal story on my necromancer and I had to take out 2 risen abominations and I have to say… the Frenzy stat needs fixing, at least that’s what I think it is. I was defeated at least 7 – 8 times in a row within 10 – 15 seconds each time even with minions and kitting & dodging like mad. They DPS way too well with this stat + with the knockdowns coming in a split second rather than 2 seconds, it’s a problem. If they had reset each time (which thank goodness they didn’t), it would have been utterly ridiculous to beat.

Please let me know what you think. I was really taken aback by the DPS dished out so much that I wrote this post literally right after I beat the abominations. I look forward to the feedback on this.

Commander's Compendium Assignment Dilemma

Age.9320

Hi all,

Sorry that I didn’t get a chance to check back. Thanks for all the amazing feedback! There are some things I didn’t even consider! I’ll definitely include most of the feedback in the decision!

Just a bit more info for anyone who reads the OP: We communicate with the other guilds in our server and our guild does bring out some capping reversals in order to comeback from time to time. Our leader and high ranking members, including myself, know each other from GW1 so trust or drama isn’t much of an issue.

Commander's Compendium Assignment Dilemma

in WvW

Posted by: Age.9320

Age.9320

Hi all. My guild is having a bit of a dilemma of assigning our Commander’s Compendium so I’m posting this thread hoping for some helpful feedback.

We essentially want to give it to a guild member that goes into WvW frequently and knows what going on and the basics. We’re a small guild and mostly PvE but we’re getting into WvW more and more and hope that our presence increases. Our main problem is that the Commander title would be stuck to one member and we tend to rotate roles between 2 or 3 members given that some members might be busy at times (school, work, etc).

We also want to keep in mind some other factors like will ArenaNet make any changes to Commander’s Compendium in the near future (such as making the title transferable within a guild).

Thanks for reading & please feel free to post any advice you would deem helpful, it would be greatly appreciated.
